In a new world where civilization is littered with endless ads, there is only one place to escape the constant attack on the senses—The Red Rocks. After a mass suicide in the year 2040, induced by the excessive amounts of ads being served to people, the United States government was forced to create a region free from all kinds of technology—electricity, combustion engines and modern conveniences. The people here are forced to live in a world reminiscent of the Wild West.
Jake, whose past life was spent growing up as a rebellious teen in the Metropolitans, was sent away by his abusive, alcoholic father to the wastelands of the Red Rocks. Driven by the demons of his turbulent past, Jake wanders these wastelands from town to town, a ne'er-do-well doomed to make trouble everywhere he goes.
Until he meets Bill.
A mysterious stranger with a dark past, Bill runs a delivery service for the unscrupulously wealthy in the Red Rocks and recruits Jake unwillingly, at the latter's insistence, but they turn out to be a good team.
Jake falls in love with Anna, a raven-haired beauty with an uncomely career, who inspires him to put down his roots.
But a chance encounter with a demon from his past derails his progress, setting in motion a series of events that will spell the beginning of the end—for everyone involved.

Elizabeth's way of changing POV is just brilliant! I especially loved her style POV use. The way she uses places, years, and characters to lead us through the story; both into the present and the past is brilliant.
It was a change to not see actual chapter titles, but rather the location, date, and character POV as headers to set up the next scene. I like this style a lot! It helped the story flow!
One of the prominent characters, Jake, really kept my interest. I kept finding myself wanting to reach into the book and say "Jake! Don't do that! You're going to get caught!"
From the fight scenes to interactions with other character; the author held my attention. I'm thinking particularly about the scene with Jake's father. I really felt it. I wanted to have a shot of whiskey with him after reading it!
I'm looking forward to reading more from this magnificent author!
I didn't want to put the novel down!
Thank you, Elizabeth, for taking my mind to a place in the future that felt comfortable, and yet new at the same time!
Excellent debut novel. The story is revealed at a pace that teases the reader forward to find the answers to what tragedy had created the Red Rocks desolate condition and what mysteries are the main characters each hiding as their paths seem destined to cross. The suspense builds in each chapter.; a real page turner. Great read and I will look forward to future works by this author.
I LOVED this Book and wish the author would write more. The character development was amazing and not for the faint of heart. The plot twists and turns and the epic ending was one of the bests I have read. I can usually figure out the ending because most books are predictable, but this...this is outstanding
If you like a punch in the face type of ending then this book is for you.
Wow, what a book. It's a mystery sort of, it's science fiction kind of ancient Western almost. You have to read this book to appreciate it. The person I thought was the protagonist kept changing. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if that's the right word. Read it and you'll see what I mean.
