Evan Buckley #5

Resurrection Blues

Rate this book

"This is the type of story that will probably haunt you forever. I know it will me."

They told him she was dead. Now he's not so sure. And there are easier ways to learn the awful truth . . .
WHEN Levi Stone pushes a picture of his wife Lauren in another man’s arms across private-eye Evan Buckley’s desk, Evan’s all set to show him the door – because he doesn’t do that sort of sleazy gutter work anymore.

But then Levi drops a bombshell that makes Evan change his mind – fast. And it’s not only the uncanny and unnerving similarities to the unsolved disappearance of his own wife, Sarah. As Evan digs deeper into Lauren’s shadowy past, the things he unearths force Levi to face the bitter truth – that he never knew his wife at all – or any of the dark secrets that surround her mother’s death and the disappearance of her father.

And Evan isn’t the only one looking for Lauren. A man from the past she never knew, evil incarnate, sends his dogs to hunt her down, to exact his rightful revenge. It’s payback time and Evan’s caught in the middle of a lethal vendetta.

But who is the hunter and who is the hunted?

Levi Stone asks Evan Buckley to find his wife Lauren. Evan, doesn't do that 'type' of investigations anymore. The Levi shares some information about Lauren that is shockingly similar to his own wife's unsolved disappearance. The more he looks for Lauren, the more he has doubts about his own wife and just how well he knew her. Evan isn't the only person looking for Lauren, there is someone out there that will stop at nothing to find her, and this places Evan in a very dangerous place. Wil he be able to find Lauren, unlike his wife? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A Great Story But How Much Can A Body Take

Harper at least a full length novel that is quite enjoyable. I enjoy the cat and mouse mysteries...but really how much abuse can a body take? Without brain damage????? Even must be built with invincible genes. But the book still entertaining. Whew.

Another great thriller book by James Harper, with some strong characters that dominate the story and take’s you on a ride that has all the usual twists and turns. This is book 5 and continues alongside the case he is investigating with the story of Evans missing wife and his relationship with Kate Gillory. But this could be a standalone novel. Evan a P.I with a difference, is he is asked to find a wife by her husband who was savagely beaten up by murderous thugs and asked where she is? Trouble is his wife had died years ago in a suspected suicide where she drove of the road down a cliff. The photograph he is handed by the thugs indicates that she is still alive and has recently been seen.
Evan life is threatened along with that of his client and the people associated with this case and as usual Kate Gillory and her sidekick Ryder are there in the background with sparks flying with Evan and Kate and animosity between Evan and Ryder constantly simmering there in the back ground. A great storyline some really bad people that you wouldn’t wish to meet and a ending you can’t see coming make this a very enjoyable read.

When I read the first few pages, I felt my stomach couldn't handle the raw violence depicted. I nearly closed the book and decided it would be too difficult to read. But I am glad I stuck with it. Yes, some of the stuff is gruesome but thankfully those parts are short. They remind me of how the Mafia dealt with snitches and turncoats back in the day. This is an incredible story with more twists and turns than the Mississippi River. It's riveting. I didn't want the book to end. The characters are easy to identify with and understand... The ending leaves us wondering... The story is not over. Will there be a sequel? I hope so.

Exciting

I have enjoyed all of the books in this series but I am finding it difficult to like Evan Buckley. In this book he abandoned two men in a fight for their lives and went home to sleep without calling the police. He also does so many stupid things. I know they help to bring the story to where the author wants to take it but I find myself wanting to either kick Evan in the behind or slap him upside the head! If you can get past Evan, the plots and turns and twists grip you from the beginning. I would like to see Evan as a character I could like, but my feelings about him won't keep me from reading the next in the series.

RESURRECTION BLUES by James Harper
Levi learned a valuable lesson don’t open the door before 6 am, somehow don’t think it would have stopped them. An envelope and words " don’t think you can get away with it"..with what Levi wonders.A meeting with Evan, the photos, did he know them. Telling about his wife, he pulls out a gold bracket, five years ago, but now on the woman’s arm in photo. An old photo, or a blurred copy, as Evan looks at the one Levi dropped, would he take the case. Funny dialog, good plot, a mystery, kidnapping, all rolled into this, story. Readers will enjoy. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Evan's stories just keep on getting better! This time he's hired to work on a case of a spouse's disappearance and which is very similar to that of his wife. He'll be involved in world where everything is not as it seems to be and everyone is holding back part of the truth, including the person who hired him. He's also getting nearer to the answers he searches regarding his own wife's case.
Another easy to read and fast-paced story, with a special sense of humor even when the main character is under difficult situations.
I thank Mr. Harper for the free copy of this book.

I love the "Evan Buckley" books but this was definitely the very best. The imagination of James Harper went through the roof with this book. I never knew what was coming next and that's the way I like a book to be. To not be able to see the ending coming makes a book a winner and this one is. Can't wait for the next to see how this relationship progresses. Love the interaction between Kate and Evan.

Wow! I am going to say that again, Wow! that was incredibly exciting, so much so I could hardly contain myself and that is a rare occurrence believe me. It is not often I get this excited about a book but this one is a doozy. The last few chapters were beyond nerve wracking. This is by far the best of the series and I take my hat off to the author he has excelled himself. I am now going to get stuck into book 6 and I can hardly wait.

KU, #5-7 Evan Buckley series
Resurrection Blues is #5 in the Evan Buckley Series, and as with a couple of the others, the level of violence is extreme. It is however a compelling tale, almost impossible to put aside, and we do some travel in this one, spend a little time in Baltimore and quite an exciting air trip or two. Evan and Guillory spend more time trying to suss out the bad guys, and even their imaginations aren't sharp enough to give them a full understanding of the depth of the depravity of this crew. I was glad to see this one conclude.

This Evan Buckley gets better with each novel. Levi asks Evan to try to find his missing wife. It seems others are also looking for Levi's wife. A action adventure where Levi get beaten by these criminals trying to get information out of him that he does not know. There are twists and turns in this novel that will keep you interested until the end.

A 5-star page turner! The story expands like a spider's web, as threads are added and the plot becomes ever more intricate. The distinctive personalities of the characters are so well defined that you either love them or hate them. At the end of each book I am more amazed that Evan has survived the situations he gets into. I was hooked from page 1.

Another good one

Although this was a good mystery, with new characters and loads of action, lots of humor and twists to keep you reading, I really am looking forward to Evan finding out what happened to his wife and then moving on to life with whichever lady that he finally chooses.

Complete trash

Don’t know where to start.

How do the bad guys always know where everyone is? Do they have a tracker fitted to the seat of Evan’s pants.

Why do people with terminal injuries suddenly fight back as if unaffected

Why doesn’t Evan ever manage a clean finish to a fight

Jack Reacher would be ashamed of this pathetic individual

A great plot, filled with lots of action, twists and great characters. I was surprised by the final twist, and left smiling by the humorous ending. I recommend this one for any who love mysteries and detectives.

Evan Buckley, PI, mad henchmen, aeroplanes and missing wife’s, all makes for a gripping read.
Follow Buckley through another great adventure with more twists than a New Jersey turn pike.
Start to finish, it’s hard to put down.

Great thrIller

This story kept you on your toes. It had more twist and turns than the freeway. Loved the main character Evan, his sense of humor. Can't wait to see if his relationship with the detective advances.

Didn't think this was as good as the previous books. The ending was a bit far fetched. I hope he finds his wife soon or finds out what happened to her as I don't want it to drag on in the next books. As much as I like Evan, think I will take a rest for a while.

Trouble and danger really do seem to follow Evan around, no matter what the case he will find himself facing death at some point.

The result is a fast paced edge of the seat book you will find hard to put down.

Well deserved 5 stars
