Rate this book
Fire Worshipers - Samo's Empire is a novel about the first known 7th century Slavic king Samo, who created Samo’s Empire. Even though Samo is referred to in historical sources as „rex“ (king, ruler), in reality he was elected by the various Slavic chieftains as their High Chief and his realm was a Tribal Union. Samo’s Empire consisted of Moravia, Nitrava (western Slovakia), Czech lands, Valluk’s Carantania (eastern Austria) and Lusatia (Dervan’s Lusatian Sorbs). All its chieftains stood behind Samo, who was able to liberate Slavic lands from the Asian tribe of Avars and later his Empire survived an invasion of some of the strongest European realms. The full-scale invasion took place in three main streams. Northern army consisting of Austrasians, central army consisting of Alemannes and southern army consisting of Lombards. Half of Europe’s strength trying to conquer its neighbours, the fearless Venedians. The invading forces were led by the Frankish King Dagobert and... well... read the rest :) The book is also about Slavic paganism, Slavic myths and Slavic customs, so if you want to find out how this corner of the world was living 1400 years ago, read the novel.
