★★★★★! Betrayal, book 1 of 5. Heiress escapes her legacy for one- week affair with Nox, but back in reality she has to cope with the consequences!

“Our first time,” he said, “because there will be more than one time, won’t be what you deserve.”
“Our first time will be what you want, what you fantasize about. I’m going to take you, right here, right now.”

Books in The Infidelity series should be read in order:
Book 1: Betrayal
Book 2: Cunning
Book 3: Deception
Book 4: Entrapment
Book 5: Fidelity

Betrayal (book 1) opens up to aspiring law student Alexandria Charles Montague Collins, Alex aka Charli at an exclusive resort celebrating her graduation. Alex is an heiress to a legacy with deep Southern roots and secrets that will slowly unfold with series.

It was meant as a girl’s trip, but upon gallantly being rescued by a handsome stranger, Nox aka Lennox Demetri, Alex aka Charli and Nox embark on a week-long no-questions-asked affair.

For that week he knows her as Charli. Every inch of her body he masters, but her secrets she will keep and he his. When their week is up they part ways never to see each other again. A decision they might live to regret.

Back in reality old legacies and buried secrets pave the way for a reunion clouded by conspiracy, intrigue, lies, deception and… betrayal!

Ten words to describe Lennox Demetri aka Nox: Charming, enigmatic, commanding, complex, noble, mature, worldly, possessive, elusive and private.

Seven words to describe Alexandria Charles Montague Collins, Alex aka Charli: Smart, reflective, meek, naïve, abused, compliant and determined.

Betrayal, told from mostly Alex’s POV, as the introduction to the Infidelity series; The perfect blend of romance, intrigue, secrets and betrayal. The story grabbed me from page one, I was mesmerized by their romance, but with the lingering feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Up next book 2, Cunning for the continuation of their story.

Effortless story-telling! Captivating plot! Swoon-worthy hero! Compelling heroine!

“This man dominated every situation. He was a man who knew what he wanted and took it.”

Aleatha Romig wrote one of my favorite series (The Consequences series) so even though I had no idea what to expect when starting Betrayal I expected greatness. She delivered. Betrayal is a fantastic start to her Infidelity series (don’t let the title fool you, there is no cheating in this one ;) ).

Alex Collins is on a one week vacation from her life. After just graduating college and getting ready to start law school, she needs that break. She and her best friend plan to just hang out and relax for a week. Then she meets Nox. Nox is mysterious, he’s handsome, confident and take charge. He knows what he wants and he wants her. They decide on some rules. One week. No details of real life. And it works. Though after that week, Alex can’t deny that she wants more. Alas, it’s back to the real world for her. Which unfortunately means back to her home for the first time in years.

 photo BF107534-B7E8-423B-B18E-C6D6F79729E1_zpsuuxjw1y4.jpg

There is a lot that goes on at the Montague Manor. This is where the true betrayal begins. A weaker person than Alex would have been taken down by what happens to her, but let me tell you a little something about Alex. She is strong. She is also determined. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to live her life the way she wants and I love that she doesn’t just give in to what others what her to do. She’s a fighter.

Alex’s story jumps from past (just 6 weeks or so) to present. The past is her one week with Nox, her present is the now. Every time I would get into a past chapter, I didn’t want it to end. And every time I would get into a present chapter, I had to know what happened next. Although I did love seeing what was going on in the present, I have to say Alex’s time with Nox was my favorite to read about.

 photo 8AD3F038-A4C2-4475-9102-2411EA479CA3_zpsi0r29fzf.jpg
When I wasn’t with him, I wondered what it would be like to have someone like Nox in my life- my real life.
Could Alex do it? I didn’t know the answer.

The last chapter or so definitely had that jaw dropping moment. And then it ended. I wouldn’t say the cliffhanger was huge, but it has me craving more of this story! I can’t wait to read more about Alex and find out more about Nox.

Betrayal is not as dark or suspenseful as some of Romig's other books, but it still has that unique style and of course there were some twists along the way. It was addictive and once I started, I didn’t want to put it down. I absolutely love this woman’s writing and non-conventual stories. I think the direction this story took was fantastic. I’m not sure how I’m going to wait for January for the next installment. A great start to a potentially epic series!

5 “The rules have changed.” stars

Alexandria Charles Montague Collins has reinvented herself as Alex, the person she thought she wanted to be, which happens to be the complete opposite of who Alexandria was. Before she leaves behind her best friend in California to start a new chapter in the life of Alex in New York, they take one last trip, one last hurrah. Little did she know that she would find a whole new piece of her hiding within waiting for the right man to bring out the bold, the fun and her wildest fantasies, Charli with an i.
This was my week to live, to do what Alex wouldn’t and Alexandria couldn’t.

Lennox "Nox" Demetri was captivated by Charli from the first moment he laid eyes on her, knowing that he wants her in any which way he can get her. They may be strangers but they are strangers with one common goal, one week, no future, no past.
“...since the first moment I saw you, I’ve made exceptions. I’ve done and said things that I do not, as a rule, do...You make me rebel even against myself.”

Six days and five nights, that's all it took to be swept away with hope of more, but that is all it could ever be just a hopeful wish of what can't be...not without breaking the rules. Shes long since washed her hands of the people who call her family, thought she has successfully been making strides towards a future she has works so hard for only to find out it is nothing more than a sham...every last bit of it. So when betrayal hits she forced to reconsider her carefully laid out plan and ask herself how far is she really willing to go because her one week is now just a memory and she can't hide behind the fantasy when everything else has gone to hell.
I didn’t know his last name, where he lived, or what he did, but I knew that in the six days and five nights we’d been together, I’d lost my heart to him. I didn’t know if he’d stolen it or if I’d given it.

Betrayal is a book you have to go in blind, take it for what it is worth and live in each moment, each page, as you piece together the foundation of what the series is all about. I honestly didn't know what to think, I have to admit there will always be that part of me that will always fear a book that has rich dominant men, but this book has totally taken me to a whole other level. There are so many inner workings in the book and each one intrigues me, but Nox is the man who stole the show.

This is the first book I have read by Aleatha Romig and with little effort on her part I became a total fan. The story is skillfully told, hooking you in from the very first page and leaving us wanting more. This is the first of five books in the series, the pace is steady and descriptive, while the sexual tension and heat was deliciously drawn out and executed. This is told primarily from Alex's point of view with a snippet from Nox. January cannot get here soon enough, it's been a while since I had a book leave me with the butterfly in my tummy feeling. A definite must read, and if you can please resist don't look at any spoilers ;)

Things at snobby Montague Manor are so bad that Alexandria Collins has enjoyed her four years away in college and is excited about heading to law school. In between graduation and the start of law school, Alex and her loose BFF head to vacation in Del Mar for a last hurrah. There she meets Knox who is one of these guys…

”Some of my tastes are unique--- they aren’t for everyone.”

description

I was greatly disappointed with Knox’s sexual skills. I didn’t think he brought anything new and the two almost waited till the end of the damn week to get it on for goodness sake. When the week is over, they are both madly in love but stick to their agreement that it was just a week.

”Both of us have lives. Maybe one day, if it’s meant to be, they’ll intersect. In the meantime, we’ll always have Del Mar and 101.”

description

Alex is being threatened by her southern snobby family and goes to the extreme to fix her situation. The story does end with a cliffhanger that readers will see coming a mile away.

”He set his sights on you. For the next year, he owns you.”

(ARC kindly provided by author)

I've been saving a nice bottle of Brunello wine that I bought on my trip to Napa earlier this year, and when I received the ARC for Betrayal, I knew it was the perfect occasion to uncork and enjoy this very special spirit. Just like this delicious wine, an Aleatha Romig book is meant to be savored. Her style of writing is usually intricate and passionate, and in this new book she takes us on a thrilling ride that will surely leave us delirious and wanting more...

 photo 6685af0c-7a9f-4b8a-968c-b650c7267a8a_zpsqvwduavc.jpg

Alexandria Collins comes from a very affluent family. Her life has always been filled with privilege but freedom is not a luxury that she's ever experienced. She always has to be proper and look the part in front of the members of the high society of Savannah.

She was able to escape her reality if only for a few years while she attended college. After getting a taste of a world without restraints, Alex has plans to move to New York and attend Columbia Law School. She's going to cash her trust fund to pay for her law degree, her apartment and finally live life on her own terms. Or so she thought...

Her mother has summoned Alex into her childhood home, a place she never wanted to go back to, but she went thinking it was to finalize the arrangements to transfer the possession of her trust fund to her, earlier than she'd been expecting . Nothing has changed in the mansion where she grew up and felt trapped for most of her life. Her mother is still oblivious to everything around her, and her step-father is as cruel and controlling as ever.

Betrayal is told from Alex's point of view, the chapters go from past to present and of course the scenes from her past were my favorite because those are about the time Alex met the sexy Alpha Male, Nox.

Right after graduation as a present to herself Alex decides to take a trip to a beach resort with her best friend. To make the vacation even more memorable she decides to act completely opposite from her usual behavior. She wants, for at least once in her life to be daring and adventurous and not the proper and always careful person she was raised to be.

On her first day, while laying by the pool she encounters an enigmatic man, Nox. He is a man that goes after what he wants so he wastes no time trying to claim her. The sexual chemistry is palpable between them and they are not willing to pass up on enjoying each other but not before establishing some rules. No last names, no past, no future. Only one week to enjoy each other and nothing more. Sounds easy enough. What can be better than to give into the pleasure a sexy stranger is offering?

The problem is nothing about their intimacy is easy, every kiss and every touch will be ingrained deep within them but goodbye is their only choice, after all...

 photo d3158efd-05c6-4211-915c-b50d13d3adec_zps4wxx7t1a.jpg

After spending such a delectable week with Nox, Alex has to face the lies and the deception of her family. What they don't know is that she's not the same little girl they used to bully into making her do whatever they wanted and this time she's not willing to give up her dreams and her life for anyone. She's willing to try anything to continue on the path to her freedom.

Once again this author amazes me with her ability to play with my emotions, just when you think you know the direction where the plot is going, something brilliantly thought out changes the course of the story. Last time I read a series by her I swear I needed therapy to be able to get a handle of my feelings. But in all honesty I loved every minute and every word, and this time was no different, if anything it was better.

This book felt so luxurious and decadent and I never wanted it to end. Luckily, this is going to be a five book series that promises nothing short of a riveting ride. Betrayal is definitely a must read!!!

Wow! What a fantastic, intriguing read this turned out to be. I’m almost ashamed to say this author is new to me. I really have to rectify that. “Betrayal” was not exactly what I expected it. Honestly I expected to be a little darker since I’ve heard a lot a good (dark) things about this author’s other books. Anyway, this first installment in the series is like I mentioned above, intriguing, suspenseful, sexy, unconventional and it goes without saying it left me wanting more.

Alexandria Charles Montague Collins is in her early twenties and she just graduated from Stanford. Her family has money, a lot of them, owns a Manor in Savannah and the most important thing is they have certain expectations from Alexandria. Alexandria’s mother and her step-father expect her to respect certain traditions and of course to marry a nice, young man, to stay home and to raise a bunch of kids. But Alexandria wants more – she wants to be a lawyer or a judge, to prove herself and everyone else that she can succeed on her own. And that’s how Alexandria becomes Alex Collins, a totally different girl. Alex is a clean state with no demons on her back or skeletons in her closet. She’s a hard worker, a good student and someone who refused to stay trapped in a cage.

“Alexandria Charles Montague Collins had a perfect façade to maintain. Alex Collins had a future and a career to build. For one week, Charli—no last name—wanted to see what life could be like without a past or a future.“

Before she leaves California and also her best friend to start a new life in New York, Alex decides to take a trip with her best friend. She decides to become Charli. She doesn’t know who is Charli, not yet, but she knows she’s different than Alexandria and Alex and she’s ready to find out everything about her.

“This was my week to live, to do what Alex wouldn’t and Alexandria couldn’t.”

Charli meets Nox, a mysterious man who intrigues her like no other. He clearly is capable to dominate every situation, he’s confident and he seems successful, powerful. She is drawn to him and clearly he is drawn to her as well. Nox is a man who knows what he wants and he wants Charli, but just for a week. No last names, no details of their ‘real’ life, no commitments.

“At the end of the week, I may not know your last name, but trust me, Charli: I will know every inch of that beautiful body and we will both know your limits.”

description

Charli and Nox spend a great week together and now when they have to part their ways, Charli can’t deny she wants more and maybe that she fell for this intriguing, sexy man. The time is up and she have to return to Savannah where unfortunately she will find out what betrayal really means.

“I didn’t know his last name, where he lived, or what he did, but I knew that in the six days and five nights we’d been together, I’d lost my heart to him. I didn’t know if he’d stolen it or if I’d given it.”

I really enjoyed this one and also this author’s writing style. The story is told both in the past (6 weeks ago) and in the present (the week she spends with Nox). I truly enjoyed both. Every chapter left me wanting more and honestly I couldn’t stop reading. While the story is told entirely from Alex/Charli pov I’ve never missed Nox’s point of view. He was definitely more interesting as a character this way.

Charli was a very easy to like heroine. First I have to say I really sympathize with her. Her life clearly wasn’t perfect. But Alex/Charli is strong, determined and I loved how she was willing to prove all that she can be more than everyone in Savannah expected her to be. Nox was sexy, dominating, fascinating and I loved his mysterious side. The chemistry between these two was from the beginning off the charts, palpable and I have to say I loved how they met. Their interactions and their easy banter left me wanting more and overall I liked them together. They were good together, sexy, passionate and the sexy scenes between them were really well written.

The storytelling was great, the pace of the story perfect and the ending was perfectly done because I’m dying to read the next installment to find out how everything will progressed between Charli and Nox. The story ends with a cliffhanger, not really a bad one, but one that for sure left me intrigued.

Overall, a fantastic read!

I love when a book surprises me and Betrayal did just that. I can honestly say without question I didn’t see this ending coming and believe me I had my theories while reading.

The story begins with us meeting Alexandria Collins while she is on vacation with her best friend. She has just graduated from Stanford and is taking a break before starting Columbia Law. Alexandria is the epitome of a Southern Bell. Her family still owns a Manor in Savannah, but while away she has developed into her own person: Alex Collins.

Alex is driven, controlled and motivated to do more. While on vacation with her bestie she decides for one week to be Charli. Charli is a spirited, impulsive and fun. She isn’t obsessed with the future and she doesn’t answer to her family. During this week Charli meets Nox. Nox is successful, handsome and charismatic. He is also closed off and doesn’t want more than one week. Together they decide to spend the week together, but just one week, no last names and no further commitments.

“But I have one hard limit too – a rule: honesty. You need to be honest with me and I’ll do the same.”

Alex’s entire life has been scripted for her. She was to attend school, but only to find a husband worthy of the Montague title. Once she found her mate they were to come back to Savannah and start a family. The only problem, Alex has goals of her own. Now after the taste of independence she had in California and her one week as Charli she doesn’t want to go back to being Alexandria. Her family has a different plan for her and she has decide what to do and where to go from here.

Betrayal is only the first book in the Infidelity Series and ends with a cliffhanger. The only thing I can tell you is things are always more than what they seem. This story is completely addictive and I am already in love with these characters. I feel like a complete insta-love whore, but I feel like I know them already. As you can tell I am hooked and I am just dying to know what happens next and where things will go. This is my first story by Aleatha and now I just want to go back and read her others!

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Type: Book 1 of 5 from Infidelity series
POV: First Person - Female
Rating:

Alexandria Collins was born and bred in a high society of Savannah, Georgia. Bogged down by her family name and suffocated by their control, she reinvented herself as Alex. A holiday with her best friend pushed her more outside her comfort zone as she spent the week as Charli – someone carefree with no pasts.

Lennox Demetri was a successful businessman on a working holiday. He knew what he wanted and how to get it and he wanted Charli in his bed. They made a pact of a weeklong no-strings attached escape from real life without thinking of possible repercussion in the future.

I have been a fan of Aleatha Romig since I first read the Consequences series. I expected intrigue and suspense, but I didn’t expect the story to be the way it is – in a good way.

The way his gray suit fit perfectly in all the right places tightened parts of my insides while melting others.

Nox was definitely a swoon worthy hero. I rarely fall for the rich older hero, but he made me want to clean up my act and seduce him haha! I like how he was mysterious and commanding without being pushy.

Because of him I’d cheated on myself. And I loved him for it.

Alex was born with silver spoon but life wasn’t all rosy. She had unwilling obligations to fulfill while trying not to lose herself in the process.

I really like them together. The anonymous tryst added the forbidden quality to their relationship. One of my favorite scene was the gas station scene because they both explored a different side of themselves.

“Now I owe them and the Montague name my life.” I spoke louder. “My body and my soul.”

I do like the story and the way it unfolded really made me want to know more. However, there were parts in the book that felt a tad too long. I am both worried and excited with what’s coming in the next book because I have a feeling things are going to change drastically.

Betrayal is a story of a woman’s journey determined to set her own future path. The intriguingly sexy story will make you hunger for more.

Alexandria Charles Montague Collins and Lennox Demetri are meant to be together. This is their destiny of course and it is calling them.

Alexandria aka Alex aka Charli (with an i) crossed paths with Lennox aka Nox at an exclusive resort where she was celebrating her graduation with her best friend. For a whole week Charli and Nox lived their dream. They spent their time together; they had dinners, long walks at the beach, tons of sex everywhere from a dirty toilet at a gas station to a luxury bathtub under the candle lights.

Nox had realized that Charli is a princess. Her upbringing, her manners were obvious. On the other hand, he did not know who she really was and what her real name was. The same stand for Charli. They had promised to each other not to reveal anything about their pasts or their families. As a result, anything they felt was genuine and it ended rapidly after just a week.

Six weeks after her time at the resort, Alex will feel the bitterness of her mother betrayal.
Her high school boyfriend and son of her godmother will be forced to her as a potential husband.
Moreover, her stepfather has made the money which were used for her studies disappear and Alex will end up penniless in New York having just enough money for one semester for the postgraduate studies.

Alex is determined to succeed and escape her family heritage. There are dark, dirty secrets about her childhood which are not really exposed in the first book. We only get a glimpse of a few incidents. Alex has learnt how to survive and after the encouragement of her cousin, she will take a life changing decision.

Charli and Nox will meet again. But this time she has to call him Mr Demetri, because THE RULES HAVE CHANGED.

Facts about the book:
Two points of view mainly by Alex and secondary by Nox
Two time periods - Present and six weeks earlier
Two main families – Montagues and Demetris
Two supportive role families - Fitzgeralds and Spencers

I am so excited for this series! The first book is really promising and the plot twists were excellent. Alex and Nox have great chemistry and there are secrets that I am dying to find out.

What A Ride!

I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series! I don't think I've ever one-click, pre-ordered so quickly! The suspense is going to kill me while I wait two more months for the next book to be released.

After graduating from Stanford, Alex decides to spend a week with her best friend at a resort, cutting loose before she moves to NYC to begin law school at Columbia. She vows to have a week of fun, the likes of which responsible Alex never allowed herself to have before. Assuming the name of "Charli", her free-spirited, fun-loving alter-ego, she finds more than she'd bargained for when she falls for the enigmatic Nox.

One week of fun was all it was supposed to be. No last names. No personal details. It was what they agreed upon. Alex couldn't have imagined that one week would change her life so drastically.

Shortly after her time with Nox, Alex finds her world being turned upside down again. Summoned to return home by her mother, Alex is plunged back into a world she thought she'd left behind.

In no uncertain terms, she's informed that she's expected to marry and continue her family name. Until she does as she's told, she won't have access to her trust fund, or the means to support her lifestyle or pay her tuition. She's allowed to complete her first semester at Columbia, only because it was already paid for.

Arriving in New York City, Alex is desperate. Her situation leads her to make some decisions that she never would have considered before, even a month prior. Unexpectedly, her past soon collides with her present reality.

The book ends with a cliffhanger that will keep me guessing until the next book is released in January 2016. I loved this story, but am kicking myself for doing this to myself. I knew I'd have to wait for the next book to be released and that it would kill me. So, let the waiting begin!

"Stupid, naive people. Happiness in another person wasn't real. All people did was betray one another: if not on the first date, then eventually."

description

Betrayal is the first installment of the Infidelity Series. Aleatha Romig doesn't disappoint with her stellar writing rich with complex characters and sexy overtones. I find myself enraptured every single time I read one of her books.

description

Alexandria Collins comes from southern money and the world of old school charm. Her mother and stepfather ooze power and prestige and feel that they have ownership of Alex. However, Alex is determined to become something great and she is able to escape the prison of that world when she moves to California for college. After graduation, she takes a quick trip with her best friend and she meets Nox.

"His unique combination of force and tenderness should be illegal, because with just one taste I was instantly addicted."-Alex

description

Nox Demetri is a successful business man who charms Alex with his devilish smile and dashing good looks. There is an instant attraction between the two. Alex is hesitant to reveal her identity and therefore they decide to have one week of fun together. After a week of courting and some intense exploration of each other's bodies, they part without ever revealing their true identities.

"Breathing no longer mattered as my back arched and I pushed pebbled nipples against the hardness of his chest. We didn't rush. For was seemed like an eternity, we lost ourselves in one another."-Alex

description

Before Alex settles in New York for Law School, she takes a detour back home in order to deal with some family business. She is immediately transported to a world that has only brought her pain. She is determined to escape and return to her freedom. However, when she discovers her inheritance has been put in jeopardy, she feels her future slipping between her fingers. With the hope of overcoming her adversaries (her parents), she moves to New York in order to start Law School and find a way to keep her future secure and put her past behind her forever.

"Montague name didn't own me-no one did."-Alex

Despite her past and current plight, Alex is determined. However, Nox has left a vacancy in her heart. Never far from her mind, he constantly lingers like a ghost in her thoughts.

description

Told in first POV, Betrayal shifts from the present and the past. In the past, we experience her love affair with the mysterious and "sexy" Nox. In the future, we experience the horrors of her family and their dysfunctional lifestyle. Although I understood the importance of the time shift, I found myself anxious the majority of the read waiting for the timelines to match. Still, the plot is well developed and the characters are quite intriguing. I felt that the tempo was generally a little slow for my taste and yet, in true Aleatha fashion, the plot development towards the end of the book left me desperate for more. The chemistry between Nox and Alex is undeniable and I have no doubt the next book will bring even more mystery and intrigue to the plot. The dynamics between the characters are intense and the setting is rich with description.

description

Anticipation is the name of this game and it's a game I want to play!

"He set his sight on you."

description

Overall, Betrayal was an intriguing read and I will certainly be looking for the next installment in this series. There is a slight cliffy in this read. Although it is completely bearable, it certainly left me anxious for the next book. If you are a fan of Aleatha's work, this is a must read! You will not be disappointed with the time you spend with Nox and Alex!

4 'I AM TOTALLY HOOKED' stars!

First of all, let me say this: I am not a fan of writing reviews when it comes to series. I feel like I am attempting to review incomplete work. I find it especially hard to write reviews for the first book in the series because those tend to contain a lot of information crucial to the plot development and, in some cases, that info makes the book appear drawn out.

Let me get the stuff that didn't work for me out of the way first ...

I'll be completely honest, there were parts in this book that seemed repetitive and drawn out [to me]. Again, this is just my opinion and I am not trying to be harsh but I would have shortened the first 80% by about 20% (if that makes sense). I felt like I was being told the same stuff over on several occasions.

Now the good stuff ...

The last 20% of the book totally made up for any complaints I might have had earlier. I felt like the story picked up and the Aleatha I know and love was back in the saddle! The ending of 'BETRAYAL' was 'pure Aleatha' (as my buddy reading partner Deanna put it) and I totally agree! It got me hooked and, even though I knew [at some point] what was coming, I still went 'WAAAAH?!?!' Not to mention the crazy conspiracy theories Deanna and I exchanged after we were done! Needless to say, if you are a fan of Aleatha's previous work, you'll enjoy this new series. Very few authors do mindf*ck as well as Ms. Romig does and for that I take my hat off to her.

To sum it all up ...

Overall, I really enjoyed the first installment! Definitely looking forward to more in the series.

Cheers!

Recent graduate Alex Collins decides to head out for a week of fun with her best friend, Chelsea, to a coastal resort before heading off to New York and law school. Chelsea tries to convince her to let her hair down and have fun and then she meets Nox and decides to do just that.

The story is told in {almost} alternating chapters of the present and the past, six weeks ago at the coast. I'm not a big fan of stories told this way because, as always, just when things get good, it switches.

And to tell you the truth, I was expecting Shades of Tony...and he's there! I wasn't sure I would like it but oh yes, I do. Nox is all kinds of yummy. My only complaint is we didn't get his POV till a chapter towards the end.

description

The set up is pretty interesting. Alex comes from old southern money...and it's not pretty. She moved to the other coast to go to college for a reason. But her mother has insisted she come home and that's where all hell breaks loose. Heck, I didn't even want to be in that house.

So, after LOTS of drama, Alex heads off to New York to figure out how to move forward with her life. She calls her cousin who only knows all too well what she's going through and sees if she can stay with him for a few days.

Now, this is where I felt things were a little over the top. Her cousin, Patrick, opens up about something he's doing and suggests she tries it and without almost no thinking about it she does! This from a person that does not want any skeletons in her closet...and this one would be HUGE!

But...the predictable outcome was just sooo good! All kinds of Shades of Tony! ~sigh~ I love how it ends and even better is the sneak peek of the next book being included. Cunning comes out January 19, 2016 so not too long to wait...thank goodness!

"Is it really cheating if you're doing it to yourself?"

➦I was really apprehensive about reading this novel based on its title alone. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that not this novel ISN'T ABOUT CHEATING at all. The heroine, in fact, has very strict principles about infidelity and refuses to even entertain an idea of getting involved with a married man.

Alex and Nox, this book's main characters, meet at a resort and agree to a week of fun together. They set the rules to not ask about their lives and to never contact each other after the week is up. Throughout the vacation they develop rather complex feelings for each other but they still follow through on their agreement and part ways severing any connections... Except Nox slips in his phone number into Alex's phone.

This book is a set up for bigger things to come and ends in a cliffy. I have to admit I am intrigued enough to give a second book a shot. (this doesn't happen very often for me :p)

What I love the most about the book is the heroine. Alex comes from money but refuses to be manipulated by her parents into arranged marriage. She pursues her dream of becoming a lawyer and will go to extreme lengths to get what she wants. The book is told primarily from her POV, although at the end Nox's POV makes an appearance.

➦I did get multiple hints leading to BDSM theme with the frequent mention of "hard limits" and I am guessing we will see more of those elements in the second book. However, there was never any "Say you're mind and bend over!" from the hero here. He is dominant but he is also very attentive, considerate and respectful.

➦I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance with a bit of kink and mystery!

Unspoken Truths.....Facades........Smokes and Mirrors

Whenever you read an Aleatha Romig book, you should know that things will never be as they seem. Your mind will be taken on a trip and it usually will involve some sort of mind altering madness!!

A week where you can be whoever you want, no strings, no commitments, just a week when you can let your hair down and breathe. A time where you have nothing to fear, a time where you can soar and fly and experience the things that you have always wanted. A handsome man, Nox, and a beautiful woman, Chari, meet and have one week. In a perfect world, meeting and lusting would be enough.

 photo bcb6e69e9731ca8409594111ee503269_zpsxfjh0p9k.jpg

But in the real world, facades make things go round. These two decide that "nicknames" are all that is needed, just one week, to feel and experience the lust and desire they have towards one another. No past, no future, just living in the moment for one glorious week. But these two have a connection like no other, so will they keep to the one week?

 photo Betrayal 3_zpsirh2faha.jpg

Charli.......is a woman with many layers, which have been in place since childhood. She is Miss Alexandria Charles Montague Collins from Savannah, Georgia, a place where traditions and expectations have existed for many years. Men provide and women do everything else, with help of course. It's the South and traditional for how she was raised. But Alexandria left after High School to prove that she could be whoever she wanted, to be a woman who didn't need a man, to be come Alex Collins. She wants no part of her past, a past that holds many secrets and dark places. But her family has other ideas and has decided that instead of law school, Alexandria needs to come home and become the proper southern lady that they expect. But Alex has other ideas. She will do whatever it takes, even if it means selling her soul.

 photo Betrayal 4_zpsizm2if86.jpg

Nox...........he's mysterious, dominant, sexy, and gorgeous. He's scrumptious and he has a dark side. Besides that glorious week, we get a little of his story. Not a lot but enough that you are on your toes wanting more!!!

So in closing.........THE END WAS PERFECT

Aleatha Romig is a genius at twists and turns, dark and light and creating madness!!! The last 15% was Amazingly Dynamic. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first 85% but the last 15% was PERFECT!!! It sets up book 2 and I cannot wait to read Cunning. So many thoughts and theories but I do know that I shouldn't expect the expected because Aleatha Romig is a master at the unexpected!!!

This is a great book to read with a buddy. Aleatha always makes you question and do theorizing on possibilities. Irene and I had fun with all our theories as to book 2 and to theories about Nox and Charli!!!

4 STARS! ★★★★

"Maybe one day, if it's meant to be, they'll intersect. In the meantime, we'll always have Del Mar and 101."

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Aleatha's work since the Consequences series. She's one of my go-to authors for the dark suspenseful reads. So when she decided to start a new serial series, I couldn't pass up the chance to read it despite the wait in between.

Just to clear the air up behind the title, there is NO CHEATING involved. The concept of betrayal here does not involve a third wheel nor is there any kind of cheating in its literal sense. Our heroine here, Alexandria has been living her whole life trying to reinvent herself. She's trying to leave behind her family in the Montague Manor who may seem prim and proper but there's more than meet the eyes. She refused to be controlled by her rich step-father who has a grip on her mother and be at his every whim. And so, she left the Manor to pursue her studies and started anew as Alex Collins.

During her recent grad trip with her bestie, Alex decided to escape reality once more by letting loose by coming up with her new persona, Charli. Crossing paths with one sexy mysterious and dominating man called Nox only seemed to help her fueled her fantasy to learn what's it like to lose control. One week with no strings attached, it sounds like the perfect plan but what happens when you want more?

"Our first time will be what you want, what you fantasize about. I'm going to take you, right here, right now."

This book had me equal parts intrigued and equal parts aroused. Both Alex and Nox are strong characters on their own and together, the sexual tension was clearly palpable. And sweet baby jeebus, Nox was such a deliciously sexy enigma that exuded the confidence that could probably melt my panties with his words. I loved how the alternating timeframes was done in the book and how it all came together to the present time towards the end. My only minor issue with that the first 3/4 of the storyline dragged a little and I was clueless to where this was heading. But the final 1/4 definitely kicked this story up a notch and changed everything.

Betrayal is definitely a strong start to the Infidelity series and with the last quarter of the read that hints at where this story will go next has already got me impatiently waiting for the second book!! I need more Nox, that's for sure. Can't wait!

Betrayal is the first book in the 5-parts Infidelity series. Next book is set out to release in Jan 2016.

3 Aleatha Romig Stars
* * * It's FREE!!!
There are so many story-lines out there...all of them can have twists and turns. It is in the execution which can make or break the spell. Aleatha Romig has a huge fan base and it is due to her successful series, Consequences. Many were taken due to various reasons; some loved the specific type of love story it presented, others were shocked and taken by the intricate plot with all of its layers and red herrings. There was a very dark element which either was a draw or turn off. Ms. Romig covered it all; her writing style strong enough to capture the readers even when they were not rooting for any of the characters.

With this new series, Ms. Romig is working the same path.
This time, however, the main male seems to be more user-friendly for a greater amount of readers and the evil element is spread out among characters who fit their assignments perfectly.

Again, the story isn't one that hasn't been told before. We have had this type of outline with all of the same points to look out for...but it is the way Ms. Romig writes and the willingness of readers to follow, which will cause the enjoyment of the read.

Those who may have thriller/mystery reading experience will see these first twists coming. This didn't hinder the read, though, as if you are reading Romig... you know things are never as they seem.

As it is a "dark" read...not so much....and I am not a real dark reader. The "unique tastes" of our fella may have been intriguing to our inexperienced gal but I remember when Diana Ross in Mahogany experiencing these unique tastes and back then...it was edgy...Yes, dating myself again.

This is a 5 part series and was a fine intro to all of the twists and turns to come. We have "companions", political and business manipulations, arranged marriages planned and past sexual abuse in families coming up.

Knowing Ms. Romig's skill, all will be engaging and I will be there to see how it all ends.

4 Contractual stars!

 photo image.jpg1_zpszkr7ykze.jpg

I love Aleatha and her contracts!

I need book number 2 ASAP! I don't think I've ever preordered a book so quickly before.

Primarily told in the heroines voice, we meet Alex Collins (although she goes by many names). We learn about Alex's life through her past, 6 weeks ago, and her present.

Through the past Alex meets Nox at a resort in Del Mar. After graduating from Stanford, and about to head to Columbia Law, this is a week were she can strip all of her worries and let loose. There is major chemistry when the two meet, and they agree to have this one week together and that's it. No personal information will be exchanged. This works perfectly for Nox as well. His busy life prevents him from making connections.

 photo image.jpg1_zpsmjvpqxxu.jpg

In the present we learn about what life outside of school has been for Alex. Her affluent family and blue blood name seem to only cause strife and stress for the young woman. Things are about to become worse with the latest news they will give her.

With limited options, something out of the ordinary comes in to play. Something that will help her situation, but something she will be obligated and contracted to.

 photo image.jpg1_zpsnzoaobfk.jpg

Aleatha Romig is one of those rare authors for me, that whenever anything new comes out, it's an automatic 1-click. I won't even read blurbs, and will just buy blindly. I am very excited to see where this series goes. I'm not giving much away, because it ended up being great to experience it with fresh eyes.

I admit, I put this down quite a few times. A book that should've taken no time at all took me days. It was a little slow paced, and I kept wondering where everything was going. Even though I was still interested, I didn't feel the need to devour. This occurred for the first 3/4 of the book, and then...BAM!!! I was pulled in and couldn't flip pages fast enough. The turn of events had me salivating for more, and I don't know if I can dangle from this cliff until January.

I liked both the MC's and I thought that the premise was originally done. As this is the first in a 5-part series, I understand the need to set the scene. And boy did the ending leave me wanting more.

You might feel like giving up on this book, but please don't. I'd probably give 3 stars to the majority of the book, but the last quarter was a big 5 stars! But you've been warned. You will read the last sentence and wish Cunning was available to dive into.

2016 review
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED This series so much so that I read both before even marking this one as read. Again Aleatha has told an amazingly captivating story that has you not able to put it down. Strong intriguing characters, hot men and money what is there not to like. I did find myself wanting to ring a few necks or slap some faces but that is how much emotion gets pulled out while reading these books.

I hate books like this. I absolutely hate prissy books with a stick up the ass complete with a super-alpha dominating male who has 'interesting tastes'. Or whatever!

There was definitely a fifty-esque vibe that made my nose wrinkle with some words blaring out as Christian Grey.

So, we have an uppity princess named "Charli" (stick to your real name Alexandra aka Anastasia) as a protagonist and her little boo hoo back story and high society family problems. I'm so annoyed because it's just so one dimensional.

She's so gorgeous because her hair is: auburn, red with blonde highlights, burnished mahogany in the dark and she has golden eyes and D cup breasts. Hah!

She's tormented by her family and her step father and useless excuse of a mother. It's all a little bit 'Poor me, I'm suffocating'. You have legs...leave. Get a job, work like a normal person. Of course she does do that...eventually.

It alternates from past to present. We have the entrance of a man named Nox and they spend a week together having sex and knowing nothing but one another's nicknames whilst on holiday. Totally hated him. He repulsed me, because it was a bit too much. He treated her like a dog, and like a princess, placating her and satisfying her. The first time they have sex is in a public bathroom where everyone can hear her screams...it didn't do anything for me.

I need romance, and deeper set emotions and something a bit more heady than what these two characters offered with their 'waxy candle sex'.

There are dominant males in a ton of books. Gideon Cross is a brilliant example of one. So believe me when I say that Nox cringes me out in terms of both looks, personality and this commanding vibe of his.

Infidelity only actually came about in the last 10 percent of the novel. And it was the only thing that intrigued me. Alex is now 'owned' by Nox. Hate the ownership term because it's a bit too much like master and slave.

So I will admit, I may read the first few pages of the next book to see its direction. But I don't believe I'll enjoy seeing him order her about and them having sex and falling in love and most likely dealing with stupid problems regarding her family and him saving her like a bimbo damsel in distress.

And I know it's not right, but the fact that he Nox was once married is also off-putting.

This might be my favorite AR book yet. Oh, how this effusive plot pulls you in, plunges you beneath the smoke and mirrors, and leaves you with a gnashing set of teeth to gnaw your way out.

This compelling, sexy story befits its empowered heroine, evoking something intrinsic about the loneliness of life in a wealthy and powerful family. Wealth and power doesn’t always provide stability. In Alex’s case, it might very well result in ruination.

But Alex is strong. Determined. Admirable. She makes drastic decisions, not without cautious hesitancy but with a daring amount of ambition. She’s the kind of heroine you love to root for. You want her to succeed. To overcome her family’s pressures. To muscle through her financial struggles. To find love. To find happiness with a man who doesn’t have a last name.

Nox is mysterious, dashing, devoted, and he’s not going to let her go. AR wanted to leave you wanting more at the conclusion of this book, and holy hell, she succeeded. I read the last page with a smile, a ragged sigh, and a whole lot of clenching WANT in my gut. She gives just enough to satisfy the heart...with a string attached, one she pulls ever-so-slightly with those delicious last words.

CUNNING will be worth the wait because AR never disappoints. Her skill at plotting and characterization is sexy, smart, and unforgettable. I anxiously await the continuation of this brilliant story.

4 There’s no cheating Stars

I loved the Consequences series. I felt like Aleatha Romig created the villain hero I loved to hate and love. I never know where her mind will take me, so when I realized she had a new series out, I was a bit hesitant because of the word “infidelity”.

Why didn’t anyone tell me there is zero cheating?! Okay, so it’s in the premise and in many reviews, but I JUST realized this. So with that said, I went into Betrayal with an open mind.

I did the audio version of Betrayal. I really liked the narrator and yes there is a male narrator, but for only one chapter, so don’t get your hopes up too much, but the female does a bang up job and I have zero complaints. I felt like she fit Alex’s personality and she conveyed the emotions perfectly.

I highly suggest you do the audio version, you will not be disappointed.

Betrayal is the kind of book that leaves you pondering when you are finished, but that shouldn’t surprise you because this is an Aleatha Romig book. I felt like Betrayal had two stories. There is the past story and the present story. I feel like whenever you have a story with a past (especially when it’s half of the book) you are just asking for angst and yes this book is FILLED with angst.

Alex comes from a wealthy family. She is going back home for a few days to visit mom and stepdad. Stepdad is abusive and mom is a doormat. Don’t even get me started on this. I was shaking my head so many times and I wanted to throw something. The way Alex’s family treats her will have you pulling your hair out. This is the present story.

Alex meets a man. For one week they have a fling, she doesn’t even give him her real name and they know nothing about each other. I was of course, interested in this story because it has Alex’s love interest, but this is the past story. It’s not the first time where I read the hero in the past, but it does leave you wanting more. You are practically begging for the past to reach to the present so you can figure out what happens.

Betrayal is very steamy and less dark than Aleatha Romig normal reads. I would say it’s not even dark at all, but that wasn’t why I wanted to read this book.

I’ll be honest and say I struggled a lot with the angst in this book, but then I also secretly loved it. I felt like I was trying to figure out how the past and present tied together because there is no indication. I really did sympathize with Alex because of her situation. She just wants to be a lawyer but everything is against her.

The pace is a bit slow, but it’s also typical of the writer’s writing style, so just so you know, you get well developed characters and storyline. Overall, I was slightly tortured reading this book, but I also enjoyed the ride when I was done. I will happily move forward with the series.

So I think I'm one of the very few people who can't really wrap her head around why people are nuts over this book. Don't get me wrong and don't hate me for what I'm about to write. I'm not saying that it's a bad book or anything. It was ok. The writing was great I just didn't liked the plot and couldn't connect with the characters.Maybe it's just not my cup of tea . Don't take my words for it just read it and maybe you'll enjoy it more than I did.

If you're not a very patient reader (like me) and you don't like reading 70% of the book just to discover that nothing exciting really happens, then more than probably this book is not for you. I was about to give up on it 4 times but I pushed myself because many people recommended it to me. I was thinking that if it has so many 5 stars ratings and good reviews ,then it must be something good. I waited for ....something 'wow' to happen ! Maybe I'm just blind and I'm missing the point of the book.

Don't even get me started on the characters and on Alexandria's annoying switch between her three personas. I just...umm...sorry.Not for me.

WOW! The twists, the turns, the intrigue, the words, every single part of this story AMAZING. I loved every single minute.
Aleatha brings us a hot new couple in a hot new series. I love Aleatha and her stories, I have since I first read The Consequences Series. I knew that no matter what she would bring us another great story with some awesome characters and she has delivered once again.

One week. No future. No past. No more.

Alexandria Charles Montague Collins is taking a fun vacation with her best friend Chelsea. After just graduating College they head to California for a week of fun before Alex starts Law School. For one week Alex decides to forget the past, and become Charli for one week. What was supposed to be a week of fun has turned into so much more for Alex.

Alex meets Lennox "Nox" Demetri by the pool. Nox is handsome, determined and when he wants something he goes after it until it is his and Nox wants Alex for one week. The rules were simple: No past and no future. No details and no last names. What Alex and Nox get in that one week is more than either one ever bargained for and Alex wants more but she cannot have it.

I didn’t know his last name, where he lived, or what he did, but I knew that in the six days and five nights we’d been together, I’d lost my heart to him. I didn’t know if he’d stolen it or if I’d given it.

Back to reality even though she does not want to Alex heads home where she has been summoned by her family. Montague Manor is the last place that Alex wants to be. Betrayals happen here and Alex wants nothing to do with them. She is smarter and a lot stronger since the last time she was home and no one is going to stop her from living her dreams.

We meet Alex mother and Step Father and we know from what he have read that there are secrets behind the walls of Montague Manor betrayals have happened and Alex wants nothing to do with the so called plan set in motion by her step father.

What happens when Alex sets her foot down and does not do what her family wants? Is her own happiness going to happen or will she be forced to do what she is suppose to, to carry on the family name.

This story is unique and has some great twists. You will be seeking answers that will leave you wanting more now.

Alexandria “Alex” Charles Montague Collins is a wealthy southern girl reared to be a debutante. Raised in a controlling household, Alex went away to Stanford University escape Montague Manor and the avarice and demented views of her parents. Now, Alex has her sights on attending Columbia Law School. To celebrate the next phase in her life, Alex and her best friend vacation at a posh beach resort on the Pacific. During this week, she vows to live life to the fullest and to become her alter ego “Charli” – a sexually adventurous and spontaneous woman. Not expecting to really let loose, Alex meets a mysterious and shadowy man who insists on getting acquainted. From that encounter, it’s time for Charli to carry through on her pinky swear vow of fun!

description

Let me just say from the beginning that Nox is sex on a stick – dark hair, light eyes, tall, handsome, dominant and successful. While on a business trip, he decides to pursue “Charli” and invites her to dinner in his suite. What ensues is Nox’s pursuit but they agree to take it slow throughout the week before succumbing to their obvious and palpable desires for each other. From the beginning, Nox makes it very clear to Charli that there are rules to follow and that honesty is a must.

"It means tonight you do exactly as I say. Don’t question or overthink it. If you can do that, I promise you more than nice. I promise you a night you’ll never forget.”

After a fabulous week, Alex is summoned home by her parents and receives disturbing news that affects her future and slowly, Alex begins to spiral down the rabbit hole. Regretting her trip back to hell, Alex must disentangle her interests from her parents’ stronghold. In searching for a solution, Alex needs to determine how far she is willing to go to stay true to herself. Complicating the matter is the ever-present memory of Nox and whether she will ever see him again. It is at this point in the book when the plot starts to quake in true Aleatha Romig fashion and the tension mounts.

“I’m not going to tell you which one or that I’m sorry for doing it, but when you discover the rule I broke, I hope you know that it was because of you.”

For me, Alex is a likeable character because she is willing to work hard for her education and doesn’t want any part of her tainted past in her future. While it may seem like she is privileged, that economic status like having a constant yoke around her neck. The author has a knack for creating female characters that are strong but also have flaws that may cause them to make bad decisions at times, but they typically recover stronger.

The pace of this plot evenly progressed until the end when we finally get that bit of information that changes it all! The character development is a slow burn as we learn much more about Alex’s past than we do about Nox, as he remains somewhat of a mystery. The secondary characters are enjoyable and offer insight into Alex and Nox.

Overall, this book is a solid beginning to an intriguing new series by Aleatha Romig. Be prepared because this book does end in a cliffhanger!!
