We've never spoken, but she knows me. And I know her.
I'm Shadow, and I'm a bit of a big deal in my world, the world of Specials. It's been five years since I've seen Everly, the girl I've been drawn to defend since we were kids. She thinks I'm a shadow, her protector. And I am. But I'm more. So is she. Destiny dictates we belong together, but part of me hates her, blames her for what happened last time I saved her. Torn between what I want and what I need, I fight to keep her alive. No matter what happens, one thing's for sure. She'll never know who I am. She can't. If she does, it could mean the end for her. For me. For everyone.
Shadow Song is book two in The Everlasting Chronicles. Reader Discretion advised due to dark subject manner.

After reading Shadow Song, I've realized something. K.G. Reuss is so much more awesome at writing from the guy's point of view. I am already in love with Brax from the Emissary of the Devil series, and now, there's Shadow too.
Shadow Song was so much better than Dead Silence. The characters were more relatable, more believable and more awesome. Even though the story was supposed to be the same, the context was so different than Dead Silence that it felt more like a sequel.
Shadow Song helped me understand Shadow all the more. It also gave much more depth to the story.
All in all, I loved Shadow Song and personally, I wouldn't mind if the author wrote all the sequels from Shadow's point of view!
I had been so excited for this book and it exceeded expectations. For a sequel it is in an original style as it's the same story as Dead Silence told from Shadows point of view. We get to see what Shadow sees and what he feels for Everly and the reasons for this. Many secrets are revealed and as a reader I became more attached to all the characters.
Written in a style that had me turning pages as quickly as I could absorb them whilst eliciting so many emotions this book deserves a five star rating.
For lovers of the paranormal, this series is a must read!
K.G. has done it again, this time with Shadow Song. The second book from The Everlasting Chronicles. Shadow Song was everything and more!
Shadow who we are first introduced to in Dead Silence, is here with his story. Where Dead Silence was Ever’s story and from her POV, Shadow Song is Shadow’s story told from his POV. So you get to not only learn about him, his past, but his life overall including his friends and family. As well as about the Conexus and the supernatural world they live in. A bonus you get to see his and Ever’s interactions in Dead Silence, but from his POV this time.
Shadow’s story had me filled with so many feels and emotions, at nearly every single turn. And because of it and obviously him, I couldn’t help but fall in love with him. With everything he was going through I sometimes wanted to just hold him and comfort him, but at other times I wanted to shake him to see some sense. However at the same time, I understood where he was coming from when it came to some of the things he did and the decisions he made. Which I would definitely kind of lead him to sort of having a hero complex, always wanting to save everyone. And for that too you couldn’t help but love him for it. My heart was breaking for Shadow and because of Shadow. The pain, heartache and suffering he was going through/willing to go through just pulled at my heartstrings.
Some of the questions I had from Dead Silence were answered in this book and even questions I didn’t even know I had. But more questions did come up, which means there is definitely more answers to come in the next book. And I can’t wait.
K.G. definitely did it again, this book had me hooked from the very start, until the very end. As each page turned, I became more and more in tranced by the story and wanting to know everything about Shadow.
If you enjoyed K.G. other books, including Dead Silence then read Shadow Song NOW! Seriously what are you waiting for? Check it out. Especially if you’re into supernatural thrillers. IT’S A MUST READ!!!
Holy Crap on a cracker, guys! I just read an epic book!! It's not out yet, so I can't give away much!! The Title of the Book is Shadow Song and it is the sequel to Dead Silence. First, we saw things from Everly's point of view. And that was a whole lot of crazy stew!! Now, we see things from Shadow's. And let me tell you, everything you THOUGHT you knew, you DON'T!!! K.G. Reuss has spun an intricate world of shadows and nightmares. A world where Everly doesn't know up from down and Shadow wants to hate what he loves most. To kill the one thing he has sworn to protect. Everly has grown up seeing the dead, fearing for her life. And she has fleeting moments of a shadow fighting the creatures trying to steal her away. What is reality, what is nightmare? Is she insane? Or is she something else? What is Shadow? So much goes into this story that you're going to be on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what is gonna happen next!!
This is book two in The Series but its showing us The same events as DS but from Shadow's perspective. This one is much more interesting as his story has a lot more details about The World and events That are happening. Its Also story That Would not be your average book 3 as its so unique on its own. And you know That I Love discovering New unique things! For sure I got hyped to read book 3 as soon as its out
Shadow Song, book two in the Everlasting Chronicles. We get to know more about Shadow and his world. All the why's and how's gets answered. But, of course we get new questions. Questions that makes my head spin.
I really loved this book. It's great written, beautiful characters in an amazing world!
Welcome back to the world of Everly and Shadow. But this time…prepare yourself for Shadow’s story. This time the gaps in Everly’s story will be filled in and we’ll have a fuller understanding of the relationship and destiny between them. Shadow Song by K.G. Reuss is book two in the Everlasting Chronicles series. In this book the story is told from Shadow’s perspective. The story is engaging from beginning to end as Shadow crosses paths with Everly from a young age. He’s a prodigy Special. He keeps most of what he is…his abilities a secret. Those closest to him know some of what he can do, but no one knows it all. He’s an excellent fighter, but he holds resentment towards Everly for something she had no control over. Now he’s battling his heart and mind as they war against each other. Shadow is an engaging character and his story is fascinating. There is danger at every turn, but the danger comes from within as well as without. Shadow Song is not as dark as Everly’s story is. The author does a good job tying in the various elements of the first story to connect to this one. The stories blend flawlessly and help to bridge the gap for the reader, as long as you have read the first book in the series. If you haven’t read the first book, I highly recommend that you do so. While the first book is darker, it is worth the read and you’ll better understand what is going on. There is nothing that I don’t like about this book. It has been well edited and the storyline flows beautifully. There are characters that I honestly want to smack, but that is about it. Plus, it wouldn’t be a good story if there weren’t characters that you didn’t hate. This story doesn’t necessarily end on a cliffhanger, but it does leave you eager for the next book in this series. I’m eager to learn what happens next between Everly and Shadow as their paths are soon to cross. The author is setting things up to be something truly epic. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I could barely put this book down and when I absolutely HAD to I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I love how the author builds the suspense, the suspicions, deceit, and manipulation by certain characters. I’m excited to read what happens next as all these characters are on a collision course. If you read the first book and enjoyed it I highly recommend you grab this book up. If you haven’t read the first book, then I recommend that you grab it and read it! You won’t be disappointed if you enjoy dark paranormal novels. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So I have this problem when I have more than one book in a series to read where I try to schedule them as follow ups, it took me a long time to read these two books because I only had time for short reads last month. This series is angst filled from start to finish (still 2 books to go and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for them). In this one we get to see the other side of Everly's story, her hero and saviour Shadow. Even with them interacting very little throughtout both books you can clearly tell they'll balance each other once they meet in person. We learn more of Shadow's abilities, what happened in his life and a bit more about Ever and how important she is to a world she does not know. While Ever questions everything and is ultra independent, Shadow is raised to follow orders and think of the good of his people due to being the next ruler of his world/realm. He is, quite plainly, a puppet. The only thing he had that was solely his thus far was his connection to Everly, and due to recent events shown in book 1, not even that anymore. It is a painful book, not in the sense that is hard to read, but you feel for the characters and the choices they have, or don't have in many cases. This is one of the rare books that a male character has less agency than his female counterpart, and it works supremely well. As with it's companion, Shadow Song leaves us with a lot of questions. Who is after Everly? Who is manipulating Shadow? Will he be able to get over his order, and himself, and develop independence with Ever's help? I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for book 3.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

📖 My Thoughts
The second book was just as good as the first yet it still managed to come out on top when it came to the events that happened. and...SHADOWS POV????? i am feral!!! i was genuinely shocked that we weren't getting his pov in the last novel, thinking about it'd really shake this shit up. and look at the readings gods??? PRAISE THEE.
y'all really don't understand how much it levelled up this story. the first book was amazing, hit my dark hearts need...but add in our hot mystery shadow daddy...she purrrrs
let me logical again: the book was good. the plot is kicking up. again, mmc's pov?? elevated this story so much. The pacing is still pretty strong. there also minimal grammar/typos so those you who care about that can rest easy.
now if you'll excuse me, i need to find my own shadow daddy.
⚠️ Triggers
kind of the same as last time: suicide, death, car accident, near-death experiences, PTSD, anxiety
there are more so please check the author's website linked below for more information or the foreward of the novel.
🏳️🌈 Representation
Again, i feel like maybe a background character who was LGBT but i can't remember so n/a
🌶️ Spice
guess what besties...again this is a slow burn so go sit in a corner and simmer.
📝 Special Notes
the second book in my author backlog challenge. I must admit i am a little disappointed with the book being so short. there is so much of this world that i crave to see every corner and crevice
Readers were introduced to Shadow in the first book Dead Silence. In this second book in the series, you see things through Shadow’s perspective. Some of the questions are finally answered. Who is Shadow? Is he in Everly’s life to protect or hurt her? Why is Everly hearing and seeing the dead? What is the reason Shadow and Everly have been brought together?
This is a very well written story that allows you to see all sides from different characters perspectives. In the first book, I found Shadow to be cold and withdrawn. I didn’t understand why Everly seemed so drawn to the one she only saw in the shadows. But after reading Shadow Song, I see that Shadow is a very complex individual. He is torn between trying to understand a love for someone he doesn’t really know, while also feeling hate and anger for what she stands for. He is also honor bound to destroying evil and is conflicted to do what is the right thing.
I was spellbound by this story and all of its nuances. When the book ended, it left me wanting more and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

This is Shadow’s story and how he met Everly. Shadow and Everly met when he was four and she was three. She pulled him to her and he saved her from her father. It happened repeatedly for many years and all Everly knew was that a dark “Shadow” would come to her and console and save her. Shadow has had a love/hate feeling for Everly ever since he save her when she was twelve, and he was not with his mother to save her from being killed. Since then Everly hasn’t needed him and he hasn’t seen her, but now she is in high-school demons are coming for her and once again Shadow is called to help her. But he wants to kill her until he sees her again. He is conflicted, and then he learns she could be the Mancer of prophecy and he could be the Reever. If so they are destined to be together and to do great things for the order. But Shadow wants Everly to be free, never to have to be forced into anything. And now she is coming to Dementon Academy and he and his team will have to train her. It will test his strength and will power to stay away from her. In summary, reading the first 3 books made me feel like I was running on a treadmill. Stuck in one place but requiring an increasing amount of effort to stay on. The story chokes on the endless lies that are meant to conjure up new ways to keep the lovers apart. (And perhaps push this into an RH?) The lying and inability to give a straight answer to questions damaged my ability to like (and cheer for) Rainer or Ever.
I just wished the author would ease up the choke hold and let them grow. And stop letting them make useless empty promises... it’s off putting.
There are a few typos and continuity errors, but I could overlook this.
The review of books 1-3 have been combined and are the same. Why? I see books 1 and 2 as prologues. Book 1 (Dead Silence) is the prologue from Ever’s point of view. Book 2 (Shadow Song) is the prologue from Shadow’s point of view. I think it best to read both 1 and 2 to understand the perspectives and circumstances that will lead to book 3 (Grave Secret). However, it was long winded to have to read the same story twice, essentially. My growing annoyance with book 3 also made me question whether reading any of it was a good use of my time.
The second book is just as good as the first in this series. I loved this book, almost a mirror image of Everly's story but from Shadow's point of view. It was an in depth look at what he was going through along with more information about the people of his team. I did, however, have concerns with his father's intentions and I believe I know who is helping the others. I wonder why they feel that Everly is at fault for something she had no knowledge. His father is out of control! I hope Shadow isn't tricked into something you can tell he doesn't want.
The author did an excellent job of creating characters and worlds that are interesting and different. I enjoyed the twist on things when given his point of view. The writing is creative and it drew me into the story, giving me a sense of intense drama. The manipulations being done in the background will hopefully come to light in the next book. We were given insight to some here, but I think there is more going on or the father wouldn't be so insistent on having things his way.
This time around, the drama plays out from Shadow’s point of view as we are treated to his version of the events from the first book, Dead Silence. We are given insight into his background and upbringing which help to explain his strong reactions to Everly. We now understand his destiny and how it’s intertwined with Everly and also why that creates fear within the ruling Council, aka the Order. We also learn Shadow’s true identity. It seems in addition to being very powerful he’s also extremely well connected. War is looming and it appears that both sides have an interest in Everly. Will she have enough time to hone her skills as a Whisperer, as she joins the other Specials at the training academy, Dementon? This installment is very well written and the characters are captivating. There’s plenty of intrigue too, between the various factions within this world and as with the first book, a lot of teenage angst.

I want my own Shadow. Shadow Song by K.G. Reuss does not disappoint. Book 2 of The Everlasting Chronicles finally gives us insight into Everly’s secret Shadow man and how they came to be in each other’s lives. All of the characters in the book are so descriptive and well written, they get that movie reel inside your mind spinning and that’s how I know it’s going to be a great story! It reads from Shadow’s POV and gives the perfect amount of emotion I expect from a boy who has yet to come to terms with being in love. It’s not lovey-dovey and it’s not cold or stark. I’ve read both and Ms. Reuss writes heroes perfectly. The story hooked me in at Chapter 1 and didn’t let go until the end. It’s fantastical but realistic, and it’s insanely beautiful— one of my favorite reads of the year so far. Not sure I can wait until next month for the next book, but I will try because it’s definitely worth it. Go one-click it now.

In Book 2 of The Everlasting Chronicles things are told from Everly's “Shadow ‘s” point of view. As Shadow tells his story from the beginning, things start making more sense: in both his world - leader of an ultra elite group of supernatural fighters ( Conexus) with powers of their own (aka Specials), and in the Nattie (or Natural) world Everly is suffering in. He shows up when he can to save her, from herself mostly. The tension builds as he tries to get her to Dementon, the school for Specials, before she goes insane or hurts herself.
This novel was as well written as the first, with only minor errors missed. Read Dead Silence before starting this one. I truly cannot wait for Book 3!

Deeply emotional and heartbreaking. 5 stars are not enough!
In the first book of the Everlasting Chronicles we read the story from Everly's point of view. Now it's time to find out who the Shadow is. Book 2 isn't a continuance of the first installment, but a concurrent narration of the same events, described by the Shadow, Everly's protector through her ordeal.
This book was to me more emotional and heartbreaking than the first. Throughout the narration I could feel every single emotion Shadow felt. Extremely well-written, wonderful and detailed characters, this is a book that will captivate you from page 1. Grab both books and get immersed in a whole new world.

This book is an excellent addition to the series. It answered many questions from book one yet added more unanswered questions too!! The book was well written and the characters and story were well developed. I loved the characters and how they invested their lives for the life of another. The character dynamics and their individual personalities were excellent. The story was amazing. It was full of high emotion, deceit, suspense, action, intrigue and love. I’d highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

Wow! It was amazing to get Shadow's view point. I had no idea what he was going through. Shadow is in fact stuck between a rock and a hard place. He is a gifted special that has an enormous pull to Everly, but he also has a huge weight that is being the general, but also the son of the king. He is blackmailed to stay away from Everly by his father and he agrees for what he feels is the good of Everly. I think his father has brainwashed him a bit regarding the death of his mother. His plan with Eric is going to backfire in a big way I think. There is also a traitor, not sure who it is, but I have ideas. I can't wait so see what comes next.
This one was even better than the first book! I was hoping for more Shadow in book two and KG definitely delivered. Shadow Song is basically book one but from Shadow’s POV. It was amazing. I knew I would love Shadow just from the very little bit that I saw of him in the first book and he was barely even there and talked even less. We got to read his thoughts and see how his life is. We also get more Eric and I knew I would love him as well. I hope the rest of the books have dual POV so we get more of Shadow’s thoughts and not just Ever’s. This book was amazing and I absolutely loved it.
I just don't get it! Why Shadow keeps fighting his feelings for Everly! This second book is an eye opener about what's going on in this supernatural world. It's so obvious that Everly and Shadow are bonded, even though she's never met him. But he knows and although he's saved her life again and now she'll be coming to his school, he's pushing her off to someone else. Hmm I'd say he deserves to lose her. Oh well, stay tuned for the next installment!

THis is book number two in the series and it is an awesome book to read. It is a fantastic follow up to book number one the Dead Silence. Just like book one I had a hard time putting this one down to and wanted to finish reading it so I knew what was gonna happen next. I can not wait for the next this the author will write about I loved all of this and I highly recommend it for everyone. I promise if you buy this book you will definately not be disappointed.

This is the second and final book in this wonderful series and we now get everything from the point of view of Shadow
Many question from the first book Dead Silence are answered but just as many are raised. Is Shadow good or bad will he always protect Everly or will he have to make the ultimate choice He is a very complex character and while he came across as cold and unfeeling in the first book this gives you an insight into his Psych.

This is the second book in the series. This story is from Shadow's point of view, whereas the first book was from Everly's point of view. There is a dictating father and a council who want to kill Everly to discover if she is the one prophisied. Shadow's feelings are very convoluted which is normal for a teenager. I thought the characters were well written and I liked them. It is a good book. I enjoyed it very much and I would recommend it.

I’m thoroughly addicted to this story and it’s characters. The author has done an amazing job, with the plot and character development and her books are really well written. I’m still surprised that I’m able to get this series on kindle unlimited for free, as it’s that good I would happily pay for it. This is a refreshing series with characters that you’ll fall in love with. I enjoyed how this book is in Shadow’s point of view, as it provided me with an understanding of how he was feeling during the whole first book. Do yourself a favour and read this series 👌👌.
WOW. This book was such a great addition to the series. I love the way KG creates characters and weaves all these intricate details together in such a beautiful fashion. She gives just enough to leave you longing for more. It was so nice to be in Shadow's head for this book and see how he views his connection to Everly. I need the next book. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for them next. She truly has a gift for writing.
I LOVE this series!!! If you haven't read book 1...stop now and read it. This book ends with a cliffhanger...cannot wait for book 3. I love Shadow and his crew...except for Amara. I hate that B. Hearing Shadow's side fills in SOOOOOO much of Everly;s side and pulls you in at every page. This book is dark, filled with grotesque things that go bump in the night.

Shadow Song The Everlasting Chronicles, Book 2 K.G. Reuss
Great book. Wonderful follow-up to Dead Silence. Shadow is dark and haunting but perfect at the same time. He goes with Ever as a glove goes with a hand. They blend. They characters and people in this world are amazing. Shadows point of view gives you so much more than Evers' could with his dimension and world it adds a new depth to the story. I cannot wait for the next book in the story!!
