Many girls try to change their wrong actions, but never learn to discern the wrong thinking behind the actions. In this new book, Sarah Mally challenges girls to identify lies which are root issues behind struggles they face. Including thought-provoking cartoons, stories, biblical teaching, and practical steps of action, this book teaches girls to replace lies with the truth and align their thinking with God's Word. When a young lady learns to speak truth TO herself, she is planting her feet upon an unshakable foundation that will resist even the most powerful attacks of the enemy. She will see how God's Word will transform each area of her life as the truth sets her free!
Sarah Mally is a single young woman with a heart for girls. She is founder of Bright Lights, a discipleship ministry for young ladies, with over 200 chapters in 35 states and 5 countries. She lives in Marion, Iowa
Wow! This book was so good. It took my several months to read it because there is so much to think about. Sarah Mally does a great job of keeping things interesting even while pointing out difficult truths. She kept things biblical and on topic. Some of the lies she covered were ones I hadn’t thought about before, others were more obvious. Even if you don’t think you need to read it, you should. There is just so much in this book. I would highly recommend this to every lady, young, older, married or single. Get this book and read it!
Took me long enough! I read the first two chapters and neglected to finish it. You see, I'm a speed reader, and this isn't a book you should speed read. But I finally picked it up again a few weeks ago with a different mindset and it was such a breath of fresh air.
I needed this "basic" reminders of truth. Sarah always shares with wisdom and humility and this was no exception. Every single one of us face lies on a daily basis and if we don't know how to combat them -- or don't understand why we should -- we're going to drown real fast.
I definitely recommend this for every girl no matter where she is in her walk with God. Every day I picked it up it was exactly what I needed and God used it to help me refocus on Him and wrestle through some things.
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as I enjoyed Before You Meet Prince Charming, which I have numerous times.
One of the biggest reasons for me was a chapter 8 and the beginning section. I know that if we are sick our faith should be in God and that His will be done. We need to have faith that He can heal us. But to argue with a doctor about that when he was only trying to offer encouragement...sits with me a little wrong. As my dad often says, "God doesn't need us to defend Him." Jesus doesn't defend himself in the Bible, He moves among and loves them, avoiding strife and arguments at all cost. We are to examples of living love, not forces that expect everyone to view things the same way we do. Besides, from the doctors standpoint he was working off of research that shows if a person believes they can get well it improves their chances of actually getting better. It's mind is a powerful thing.
Anyway, the way the situation was handled, or how it was relayed that it was handled bothered me.
Other than that I did enjoy this book for the most. I loved the idea of replacing the lies in our minds with truth. I would have loved to have had more information on the best ways to memorize verses or even a plan for memorizing verses that speak truth, but I guess that wasn't the intention of this book.
Anyway, a good read, but not my favorite. I'd recommend Love Riot by Sara Barratt first anyday.
Sarah Mally addresses so many lies in this book, and shows us not only the truth, but how to find the truth for each new lie we may face. I highly recommend it for any young lady who wants to deepen her walk with the Lord!
This is a powerful book on replaces the lies you believe with TRUTH. Every Christian girl should read it!
I can't say enough good about this book. I've read several books along these lines, but this is by far the best one! Sarah doesn't just know the knowledge, she's lived it - she knows it in her heart, and her beautiful soul and love for Jesus spills onto every one of these pages, as she encourages and inspires young and teen girls to live a victorious Christian life.
Is there even a good way to boil it down to a couple paragraph review? Sarah covers topics like Foundation, God, Position, Identity, Stability, Enemy, Strategy, and Source of Satisfaction, and delves deep into preparing for combat, where our refuge is, assurance of salvation, our view of grace, the Accuser and the Intercessor, emotions, media, guilt and shame, temptation, purity, and culture. She includes specific lies that are commonly believed among us as teen girls today, and counters them with specific scripture verses. And while speaking truth to us, she gives practical tips on how we can learn to speak truth to ourselves.
This is a book I hope I find myself coming back to again and again, because these are truths that need to be rehearsed over and over.
I read this book with two of my cousins, while meeting together after every section to discuss it. Highly recommend that! 💕 Talking about truth helps sink it deeper into your soul!
Sarah Mally is a beautiful example of a woman who seeks Christ with her whole heart and is living the Christian life to it's fullest extent (and always going deeper and gaining more), and she is someone I admire and look up to.
Can't say enough good things about this book. It's solid, Biblical, it's TRUTH that can set you free, because it's truth directly from God's word. This book sends you back to your Bible!💕💕

"Let's use our God-given "drive" to be beautiful to remind and motivate us to seek to be beautiful in the eyes of our Heavenly bridegroom. Jesus set the ultimate example of submission for us. We are called to follow in His footsteps, and this is the pinnacle of beauty! The more like Him we are, the more beautiful we will be. Your beauty is for God's glory, not your own. So don't look to people to define beauty. Look to Jesus Christ-the One who created you, loves you, and is coming back for you as your eternal Bridegroom!"
"God is so great that He can work with humans like us—and still produce beauty. Beauty from ashes! Focus not on your failures, but on Christ’s faithfulness."
I wish I could have read this when I was fourteen! It covers SO many of the struggles that we deal with, and provides realistic and Biblical solutions. Many of the lies discussed in the book, were things I've dealt with in the past. Things that I'd had to learn verses to combat. But there were other lies in the book that I've found myself facing recently. What a GREAT reminder to get the truth from the right place! To combat Satan with God's Word! To filter EVERYTHING in our lives through the Word of God!
Sarah Mally has a sweet, genuine faith that is beautiful to see. I would recommend this book to any young teenage girl who is just starting to own her faith as her own.
At nineteen, I didn't feel like I was quite Sarah's target audience; the ideas contained in her book were things I had already understood and begun to walk out. Still, it was a good reminder, and I enjoyed reading it.
This book would have been perfect for my fourteen-year-old self; I needed it desperately.
This was another excellent book by Sarah Mally and it is so needed in our day and age.
What I Liked: As I said above, the message is very timely for our day and age. Young ladies today are bombarded by so many horrendous lies. Ms. Mally clearly shows that when we believe even “small” lies (though a lie is a lie—no matter how big or small) it affects our thinking and then what we believe in our heart is carried outward in how we act.
I enjoyed the many testimonials in this book. It is an encouragement to me that I am not the only one who struggles with making sure I am looking to God’s Word when I’m hearing lies in my heart.
Sarah Mally presents this book in such a way that it is appropriate for younger ages of young ladies. Everything is backed up by Scripture and Sarah challenges young ladies to go deeper into God’s Word and study it ourselves. I highly recommend this book.
What I Didn’t Like: There wasn’t anything that I disliked about this book.
I give this book 5/5 stars for an excellent book that was encouragement to me. Thank you, Sarah, for being a godly example and for encouraging us to look up to Jesus and His Word.
Excellent resource and devotional for young girls! Would have loved this a few years ago, but still found much to glean from it as a young adult. Highly recommend!
Although this book is written with young ladies in mind there is so much that an older woman can learn as well. Our hearts will only grow in truth when we store truth in them. Although it is difficult sometimes to truly want to follow God's will it is through God's will that we become who He created each of us to be. All of us believe lies. Those lies come only from Satan. And only God can teach us the truth and replace those lies. So get into the Bible, study His Word, memorize his Word, and make it a real part of your live. Because God is truth.
This book shows us some of the lies that we as women believe, these are followed with scriptures to use to help replace those lies with truth. These lies are also explained and have many stories to back them up. These real life stories help to give depth and understanding. They are not used as gossip as the readers are not given their identity.
Although I am in my mid thirties, married with two children, this book helped me recognize some lies that I had believed in the past and have fallen trap into believing as an adult. I have a young daughter and will be giving this book to her as she gets older. I will use it as a resource right now as she grows and navigates life. This book is filled with so much truth.
I've read this book many times. Definitely designed for a teen/ young adult audience, but the truths inside this book are such good reminders! I find myself going back to it to look at what I am struggling with. I think we all need to remind ourselves of truths from the Bible.
Needs a LOT of work on the scriptures (barely any of it was King James). Only a couple verses were out of context because of this though, so that's nice. A very needed book, but having to fix or look up the verses takes a lot of time, so it's not a book you will get through quickly.
