The complete bestselling cozy mystery series for one low price!
You know that eccentric great-aunt no one wants to sit beside at family functions? Or that neighbor who's just a little too strange to get to know? Or the pushy woman at the thrift store? Maybe you know Gertrude. She's a smidge snarky. She's frightfully frugal. And she's fearless. She'll find a body in a house of balls. She'll tick off the local police. She'll go undercover at Thrifty-Help. And she might even manage to get herself kidnapped while yardsaling. All in the name of justice. "FUN, FUN read!" "Laugh out loud funny!" "What a hoot!"
Gertrude is annoying, ignorant, cranky, somewhat technologically challenged, rude, irritating but also occasionally kind-hearted, funny and manages to somehow be in the right place at the right time to solve (at least sort-of) some mysteries. Sometimes I found these books challenging (like Gertrude actually) and sometimes I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I wouldn't say these are the best books ever but worth a read.
Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe was my fourth read from author Robin Merrill. Very different than the Piercehaven books I'd previously read by her, the book was entertaining & enjoyable. Gertrude Gumshoe: Murder at Goodwill was my fifth read from author Robin Merrill. This mystery was entertaining & enjoyable (think Murder She Wrote with an average female lead). Gertrude Gumshoe: Murder and the Vardsale Villain was my sixth read from author Robin Merrill. Gertrude Gumshoe: Slam Is Murder was my seventh read from author Robin Merrill. Gertrude Gumshoe: Gunslinger City was my eighth read from author Robin Merrill. Gertrude Gumshoe & the Clearwater Curse was my ninth read from author Robin Merrill. each book is better than the last. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I did not expect to enjoy this really, but as a boxset for 1 audible credit, I thought that I’d give it a try. I listened to all 6 episodes one straight after the other and was sad when I got to the end of the last one!
The stories are Stand alone, meaning that there are no cliffhangers to irritate (or entice - depending on your preference). Having said that, there are a couple of references to what had happened earlier in Gertrude’s (or Hazel’s), adventures! But they just add continuity, rather than spoil the story.
As for Gertrude, you either tolerate her or warm to her. I can’t say anything stronger (or nicer) than that! If you like Cozy Mystery’s with quirky (cranky), mature women, then this will not disappoint!
Gertrude she is quirky, and doesn’t take the word no. When she decides to do something rather a missing cat or murder finds she has the skill or determation to solve. Full of humor and good narrator. Murder at Goodwill She found the latest scent in perfume at goodwill a dead body with a green lamp shade on top. Can one only imagine her going undercover, she is funny, quirky and determine to solve. Murder at Yardsale Shopping on the internet is proving fatal as woman go missing. Gertrude saves the day by solving. Good series and narrator. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Gertrude, Gumshoe Cozy Mystery Box Set: Books 1–6 was a great read by Robin Merrill. The book includes: Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe; Gertrude, Gumshoe: Murder at Goodwill; Gertrude, Gumshoe: And the Vardsale Villain; Gertrude, Gumshoe: Slam is Murder; Gertrude, Gumshoe: Gunslinger City; and Gertrude, Gumshoe: And the Clearwater Curse. Gertrude goes undercover and is also trying to find the murderers and kidnappers I absolutely loved reading these books and can't wait to read more by Robin Merrill.
Such a fun series! Gertrude is such a character that everyone around her seems normal. I enjoyed her escapades and her determination. This series is light and often hilarious. A popcorn book to sit back and enjoy.
These were such a sweet surprise! I love Gertrude and Calvin. They are a cantankerous but lovable pair, and so much fun! The mysteries were great too—very well thought out and unique.
