(*This book was previous published as Going Back for Romeo.)
He's looking for a fine, brave woman... Laird Ross has weathered painful betrayals before, but Fate is not finished with him. Not only has the fairy foretold come to expose his secrets and destroy his clan, she might just destroy his heart as well.
Jillian agrees to be the travel companion to a couple of aging sisters. Sadly, they're not as fragile as she thought, and Jillian is the sucker they plan to send back in time. When she lands in the arms of a 15th century Highland laird, she thinks it's a joke--but the joke's on her. No matter how perfect Ross might be for Jillian, she'll never get back to the future unless she betrays him completely. QUINN is next. Be sure to hit the follow button under the picture of L.L. Okay that was disappointing. I really hate giving bad reviews and I haven't had to since Fifty shades but this was terrible. First off the story was actually a good one, the author had the right idea with a few twisty truths put in but that is where the good times stop and the novel as a hole was terrible. I was completely confused about 90% of the time it seemed to jump from one thing to the next without any clue as to how it happened. I have no idea how they fell in love one moment Monty was kissing Jillian the next he was angry at her for some reason unknown to me. It felt as if the author had put some paragraphs in the wrong spots. The end just stopped like the writer decided they had had enough and there was so many unresolved questions. Characters were introduced without any point as to why they were even put in. I was really disappointed and kept reading hoping something good would come out of it. Well it didnt and I would not recommend this to anyone who loves highlander time travel
I have a confession to make: I have a weakness for time-travel books involving handsome Scottish Highland lairds. It is complete and utter escapism, and I love it.
I've read Going Back for Romeo twice now and enjoyed it even more the second time. It has everything I like: a strong heroine, a tough-yet-tender Scottish laird, and a pretty believable time-travel catalyst. There are good kisses, lots of romantic elements, and side characters with personality and depth.
There is a spot somewhere in the middle where I felt a bit disconnected, but I haven't been able to figure out why. It passed quickly and I was pulled back into the story for the remainder of the book. The writing is smooth and I really like the flow and voice. There were a few typos and small formatting issues but I got past them easily as I was pretty caught up in the story.
If you like a good time-travel romance with some laugh-out-loud moments, toe-curling romance, and a bit of adventure, then there's a good chance you'll enjoy Going Back for Romeo.
Content: There were a few swear words (heck, dang); some light innuendo and references to the hero wanting to "bed" the heroine; there is no premarital sex; there is one scene where the heroine comes downstairs in a "towel" to heat bath water in order to shock the hero; after marriage the reader knows they are consummating the marriage but there are no graphic descriptions and references to what is happening are vague and tender.
As time travel romances go, this was a good story. It fell apart when there was not enough description of scenes, or background on people. There was significant development of Monty and Jilly but it was confusing as to why he would suddenly kiss her, and then back away from her.
The Muir sisters were engaging but they unfortunately added to the confusion with their vague little 'cute' pronouncements.
The character that suffered the most was Quinn Ross in the present. He seemed very interesting but then he just became a deus ex machina and he only rated a quick explanation of what he was doing.
And the epilogue? One paragraph of two sentences. How did Monty get to the future? What happened to Quinn? Did Monty get the children he wanted.
It just ended! I was so startled that I kept turning pages on my Kindle hoping there was more. There was not.
This was a story with a good premise but it needed about 100 more pages to explain a lot.
I did not finish this book. It did not get interesting to me until 20% which is a long time. But it did then get interesting when the main character traveled back in time. However it wasn't realistic. Some parts were but other parts definitely weren't. The female heroine ran into the Laird on her way searching for food and said, "Move, you medieval oaf. There is food out there and if you don't let me by you, I'll eat your arm." Intended to be humorous I'm sure, but I just didn't find it to be that. Anyway, I admire all writers for their creativity and don't want to harp on this author. Many people have obviously loved this book based on the reviews, but it just wasn't for me.
I am going to be completely honest about this…as I fully believe that you my readers deserve nothing less and I know that I expect nothing less from you. I went into this book fully expecting that it would be entertaining but not really “good” if you know what I mean. I mean…look at that cover…add highlanders…time travel…witches…Romeo & Juliet… Isn’t it all really just a bit much?
NO, it is all exactly just right!
We are thrown right into the action with Laird Ross entombing his still living sister who has been condemned a witch and the book just runs from there. All of the characters are likeable and relatable. Jillian with her interesting background story makes a wonderful heroine. Monty with his tortured past is all you’d want in a Highlander. and the secondary characters all come alive through LL Muir’s story telling. And the author writes with such heart and wit that you’ll race through to the end before you even know what has happened.
I will admit that there were two small scenes were some of the story was told through flashbacks and I feel it would have kept the continuity had it all been told in chronological order and there was one scene that still has me scratching my head. However , it honestly didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story one bit.
I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this book! The author must indeed be a witch as her same named characters are to have made such an impression on me:) And I want the next installment…now please!
If you are looking for a quick fun read with loveable and kooky characters and a lot of humor…this book is for you!
Reading Going Back for Romeo is like sinking into an awesome new ride at an amusement park. Once it starts, you won't want it to end.
While Jillian tours the ancient Ross Castle in Scotland, she discovers three things: First, men in kilts are even more attractive in person. Second, Grandma's warning about staying out of Scotland may just have been warranted. And third, she might have exactly what it takes to break an old curse that's keeping two lovers apart. Lovers from the past, that is. What Jillian also discovers along the way is a (devilishly attractive) love of her own. One she may just have to leave behind.
This book is definitely one to put at the top of your list. So hop on, buckle up, and keep your arms and legs inside at all times; Going Back for Romeo will take you for one wicked ride!
3.5, really.....this book had a lot of potential, though I found the writing muddled and confusing. That being said, it was good enough to finish and since I bought all 3 of the series for a pittance, I'll continue reading.
I sure wish the original (if the above is the original) cover art and title were what they were still called on this series. Heck I'm embarrassed to read something with a half naked highlander on it...lol. And it's misleading. BUT, the book is good and totally clean. I started out reading the Ghosts of Culloden Moor series that Ms. Muir stared. And I liked all of those. So I decided to give this a try. Therefore this review is for the series, not just this first book. I truly love them. I do not do reviews for Ms. Muir like I do for several others, so I was not given any of her books free to review. I chose these. And I really like how she writes. Out of all the authors doing the Ghosts of Culloden series, I like hers best. Each is unique but can blend in with the rest to make a long exciting story. This series is the same and when you get to book 4 (Wickham) both series come together. I really liked that. However at book 3 I was disturbed. It ended well and again was well written but the 'hero' to me was anything but. I didn't like him. He was disturbing. And I didn't like how easily she forgave him. Forgiveness is good but marrying someone who is nuts and holds you captive is scary. But it's just a story and I'll look past it. I still liked it but it wasn't my favorite at all. Of any of her books. BUT....give this series a try. I think you'll like it. Its funny and exciting. But clean. You won't have to be too embarrassed if you listen to it on your Alexa and your kids walk in...lol. Yep. Happened.
It is really hard to find a well written time travel story because so many authors have their Middle Age Scotsmen understanding and using contemporary words and out of the period armament and clothing…then to make matters worse they make the women pant like dogs over the muscles and the sex scenes..sigh..the last one I tried was awful.
This is so well written and beautifully plotted. The romance isn’t overbearing, in fact it’s so poetic that I had tears. And their wedding night is so heart meltingly beautiful that other writers could take lessons. The ending was brilliant. Well done and 5 stars.
I didn’t read this entire book. I read to chapter 26/41 then skipped ahead to read the end. I could not make myself finish this one. I was past the halfway point and was falling asleep because it was so boring. There was nothing and no one in the book that interested me at all.
This story jumps all over the place without showing any purpose for the scenes or events. There is barely a plot and most of what I read had very little to do with the shred of plot we did get. The characters are maudlin and depressing.
Note that the title of this book has changed. It's no longer "Going back for Romeo" but simply "Ross" and is the first book in what is now know as "The Curse of Clan Ross" series and not "Muir Witch Project".
I hovered between three and four stars for this one. It was a fun time travel but since the language was quite coarse (especially for anyone with British ties) I decided three was probably best.
I will keep reading this series. The way it was written, I sometimes hard a hard time following who was talking. Too many pronouns and I couldn’t follow the subject sometimes and would have to reread the parts. And I’m not 100% sure about how believable the romance was. But there were some good scenes and there is a lot of mystery still to learn so I will keep reading to the next book.
Loved this first book in this series. Beautiful depiction of soul mates and sacrifice. Loved the details, the stubborn personality of Ross. I really wanted to hate him for his cold, unfeeling heart. Loved this book. I have read all the currently available Ghosts of CM stories and am so excited to read more on the Muirrs.
I just read this book under a different name; Laird of Shadows (The Curse of Clan Ross Book 1). It apears to be the same story.
I really liked this story and it was a very good read. The characters were convincing and the dialog was good. It was engaging and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Promising but fell a little flat. I liked the storyline, but the characters lacked depth. Jillian, the main character, is young, but she was a little too juvenile in her mannerisms and speech to be credible.
Wonderful love story of two people who live in different centuries. They meet through a magic of Muir sisters. The sisters try to reverse a wrong that became a curse for Ross clan. Read for more.
I truly loved reading this book. I loved the way that Julia and Laird Montgomery Constantine Ross interacted together. They were really sweet. TheIr sisters, both sets of sisters were a hoot.
There were some parts in this book where I had no idea what was happening. Otherwise it would have been a 4 Star book. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next one. Hopefully it will be less vague.
A ‘generous 2 star rating - storyline doesn’t “flow” smoothly, having to reread a few sections to understand the connection between characters and past references & characters inserted near end of story? As if, author was hurrying to meet a deadline.
DR H. Headed thru the first two chapters . DRH got lost tho g to figure out two eighty old sisters and the young Wyoming 18- 19 year old No Jillian . I was able to skip to chapters 52. - nasty reader. Truly DRH
I got whiplash reading this book. I had to go back and re-read so many times it was crazy. The writing and/or editing is terrible. Huge gaps in events meant I spent more time trying to figure out what was going on than actually enjoying the story.
What a cute book. Time travelling books are my fav. It was a cute clean romance story. I normally love a bit of heat in mine but this one had none. Fear not! It was so nicely written than it didn't need it. I swooned with the characters and I might have cried a bit!
The storyline is good Had a lot of editing errors. Duplicate words through out. Wrong tense. Good thing I read the Ghosts of Culloden Moor book series first since a few characters have showed up to cause chaos once again.
Wow so very wonderfully written! Some of it was quite familiar as I have read about clan Ross before, but this one seemed to have mote details or maybe I just got more out of it. Delightful story great reading! Looking forward to more.
Loved it, it was delicious and romantic and so wonderful to know the Muir witches beginnings, such rotten, fun litt!e mischief makers !ol thank you for story
