Rania Algafari never asked to be different, and when she escaped the war in Syria and moved to the UK, her only goal was to live her life in peace. Get up, go to work, avoid talking to the dead—that sort of thing.
But not everyone dies quietly, and Rania’s soon being pestered by one ghost, blackmailed by another, and distracted by a handsome private investigator who’s got his own reasons for wanting to solve a particularly gruesome murder.
While Will Lawson doesn’t mind using unorthodox methods to crack a case, he’s never had to contact his witnesses via a seance before. But the clock is ticking, and Will and his unlikely sidekicks need to hunt down a killer before he’s dispatched to join the spirit world himself.
Cursed is a standalone paranormal romantic suspense novel in the Electi Series—no cliffhanger!
Elise Noble is an English rose with a few thorns who loves chocolate, sleep, and well-defined abs. Not hers, unfortunately. She lives near London with a horse who eats all her money and three dogs who eat everything else.
Elise writes real, gutsy heroines and flawed but swoon-worthy heroes in stories that mix mystery and mayhem, humour and happily-ever-afters.
Seeing ghosts can be a curse! The first book of the Electi series gripped me from beginning to end. I love any book that includes characters who can see ghosts and in particular solving their murders. The novel was well-paced, smooth flowing writing style with interesting characters and it was great to see the various relationships develop. My only query with this book was that at the beginning of the book, the ghost of Arthur said he fell over the balcony, but after that, it was stated he was murdered ie pushed. However, it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. Looking forward to reading the next instalment in this series.
This mc was someone I liked so much. She felt 100% authentic and real. It made the whole book for me. Really, even if the adventure had been shit, my loyalty to the mc would have made me love it. But the adventure was great! And the boyfriend was great! He saw her and the respect was evident on every page. I think Elise Noble knocked this one out of the park. What a fun read!
A very exciting book! Cursed is the first book in the electi series. It is a paranormal themed book which is a little different from the Blackwood Security Series that is written by the same author. It is very refreshing and exciting to read. The characters, plot are very good. A must read book.
At last! At long last! A romance that was perfect in every way for my tastes, an MC and her love interest exactly like I have been looking for, all too often in vain. Raina is a war ravaged Syrian refugee, who has deadly survival skills, but just wants to melt into the English culture unnoticed. The problem is, she can see the ghosts of murder victims, worse, they talk to her, demanding she find and dispatch their killers. A grisly murder happens where she works as the night cleaning lady, and she soon crosses paths with Will, a PI the victim's father hires to find her killer. Will immediately senses Raina is holding something back and right away becomes entangled in her life, much to her horror. Only, he's not put off by her, rather he's attracted to her, but she only wants him to go away, because no way can she risk him knowing her violent past.
Watching Raina and Will come to know each other, to see them both bloom in each other's affection, to watch his love give her the courage to open up, was like getting the best dessert on the table. Both are brimming with character, ethics, sensibility, and moral conscience, and they make all the right choices. No air-headed, foul-mouthed snark here, instead, mature, elegant, intelligent people whom you would want as your best friends. Congratulations Ms. Noble for writing a book about a real woman, and a real man

I just LOVED this novel.... not normally a paranormal fan, but on reading the blurb sound it to be a close to reality than the ware wolves and bares etc. I was hooked from page one. Rania is a feisty young woman with lots of attitude which shes had to develop to keep alive. As part of her heritage she is an Electi and can see and speak to ghosts. Not at all what she wants to do, but its her life, so she must just get on with it. Despite the subject matter, this novel is full of brilliant banter, which keeps it light, and caused me so many laughs..... Still reading at 4a.m. this morning I woke my husband because I was shaking with laughter... you know the kind when you just can't stop even if you wanted to. The visions that went through my head, well, lets just say they kept me giggling A LOT.
The characters are well thought out, and just jump right out of the page, bringing the story to life (was that a pun?)
This author can certainly write a cracking tale. Every word was used well, nothing excessive, but nothing was left wanting.
I would have given this novel a 6* if I could..... I would recommend this read. I have just downloaded more of the authors works.... I am so hooked.
Although I don’t normally read paranormal, I had tried and loved Judged and was interested to find out more about the other characters. So, I figured it might be good to start at book 1 (after having read the final book in the series 😉 first). And I have yet to be disappointed with an Elise Noble book. Another all-nighter. Although it is a paranormal and the main character can see ghosts of murdered people and are supposed to “free” them by killing their murderers, the book is surprisingly light-hearted with a lot of hilarious banter. Not much action, but the book has plenty of everything else and will keep you absorbed from the first page. Several twists and turns and I definitely did not guess the whodunit until the end. Even though this is the first book in a series and the book is so good that you will want to read the rest, there are no cliffhangers and unsolved business at the end of this book. Just a really good story told really well.
This is an UF/PNR because while it is about Raina - one of the Electi who can see and speak to spirits and are tasks with dispatching killers so their victims can move on to the next life it also has a fairly strong romance plot line. Raina - a Syrian refugee in the UK has lost everything and everyone and is tired of death and suffering just wants to get by under the radar ignoring the ghosts that demand she seek justice for them. Then the boss's daughter at the office she cleans is murdered. With the ghost demanding her help and the PI brought in to investigate sure she is hiding something Raina is drawn into the investigation. And Will (the PI) is drawn to Raina. Raina was an immensely sympathetic MC - you can't help but feel for her and all she has suffered. Will is immediately drawn to her and is so careful, and caring and protective of her.
This is the first book in the Electi Series by Elise Noble. Rania (Rani) Algafari escapes the war in Syria and moves to the UK to live a calm and peaceful life. Rania is an Electi who has the ability to communicate with ghosts by seeing and talking to them. Rani is being harassed by the ghost of Lucy, a girl who died in 1883 after being run over by a carriage. Lord Daylesford is a ghost who tries to blackmail Rani by manipulating her abilities to help him with his own unfinished business. Rani meets Will Larson, a private investigator who is investigating the murder of Maggie Stuart who was brutally murdered at Daylesford Hall in 1864. As Rani and Will investigate the murder they start a romantic relationship. Rani and WIll must solve the murder mystery before Lord Daylesford kills Will. I really enjoyed this amazing paranormal romantic suspense novel.
I loved it! Really, if you realize there exists more than many of us understand or believe, or simply love paranormal, you will love Elise Noble's newest series! Characters who delt with real life issues, and normal and completely (sadly) things we see on the news daily, greed, obsession, bribery, this novel has it all! Most important to me was Ms. Noble's inclusion of pure prejudice, it really made Rania's character so much more defined, and truly human!
Again, Ms. Noble, another writing genre which you bring the reader to the story, hook , line, and sinker.
I was in two minds about reading this book, and I am glad that I did. The concept is fascinating.
Will is a private investigator who is tasked to solve a murder. He meets Raina who has a special gift. He isn't sure that she is telling the truth until she starts telling him things that only the victim knows. He enrols her help with this particular case and one thing leads to another.
This story keeps the reader guessing throughout. There is one twist after another. It has mystery. Murder. Humour. Discrimination and romance. The revelations at the end are well and truely unexpected. It's well worth reading.
Rania is a refugee from syria who has seen so many horrible things and had to do horrible things to survive, including helping banish black souls. Shes an electi so she can speak to murdered ghosts and help them get revenge on those who killed them. From doing this she is plagued with nightmares and decides she will do it no longer. While cleaning at her work there is a brutal murder and in walks PI will. Her life will never be the same again.
I really liked this first story in this series. Rania is a refugee from Syria. She has lost everything. She is now trying to make a home in England. Unfortunately she is one of the few (electi) who can see and talk to ghosts. Working as a night cleaner in an office building the boss's daughter is murdered. In come Will hired to solve this murder but falls for Rania. I like how this all played out. Well written. Would read next story.
I really enjoyed this book! The concept was brilliant and I really liked Nia and Will, they really matched well. It would have had 5 stars, but there were some inaccuracies I noticed. One glaring one was when they were babysitting Aisling and his parents arrived, the child miraculously disappeared and they ended up in the bedroom!! On the whole though, a great start to the series! Yep, I'll definitely reading the next one!!
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this but it turned out that there is a great pace, some good writing and a very good plot. Rania is a very different leading character and so is Will - both down to earth and very real as people. The ghosts were a good touch and again the whole thing was believable and sometimes sad. A very enjoyable new author for me.
I was looking for something a little different than my normal reads, historical romance, I started looking at sci-fi.. I came across this. I read the sample and was hooked so I bought it! This was very good! Intriguing, sweet, a little sexy, suspenseful and exciting. Very well written as well. I hope you enjoy it as well as I did. Happy reading! Lori😺
So Ranks can speak to ghosts. A family tradition passed to her from her mother. As a war refugee in England , life is tough and she's glad to have her friend Shannon and her daughter Aisling. While working as an office cleaner, a mixer takes place. The detective, Will, knows there's something different about Rania. And the adventure begins. Read this and enjoy!
If you like the hit TV show, The Ghost Whisperer, then this book is for you. Cursed (Electi #1) by Elise Noble is a sexy paranormal romance suspense. This story mentions sexual assault which may be a trigger for some readers. The author is British, therefore as an American, I had to figure out the idioms but it wasn't too distracting, I was able to follow the flow of the story and enjoy it.
Talk to ghosts to solve crimes, what could go wrong?
Romance level: some loose bedroom activities eluded to at the beginning. Main romance is mild one open door scene after a longer relationship.
Fun concept of talking to ghosts for solving crimes. Reincarnation and some weird attempt at releasing ghosts was used to explain the concept. Also some inconstancy.
A romantic suspense with a supernatural twist! Raina is "gifted" with a curse of speaking with the dead! This leads her (and other "Electi") to help solve murders, by using her unique skill set! I really enjoy Elise Noble novels, and Curse is imaginatively different! It was fun, compelling and heartwarming!
Another great read from Elise Noble !!! I just love the way she writes and develops characters that really become your friends and always hate when you finished one of her books , that’s how great they are !! 5 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 up 😁
A well written romantic thriller. Ghosts and solving a murder bring together a private investigator and young woman together. Once again Elise Noble uses humor to develop the characters and plot. A great read! I voluntarily received an ARC of this book to give an honest review.
This book has a very different taste than other romantic suspense by Elise Noble...It has spookiness which is kind of new , somewhat amusing and refreshing...The suspense in the story is made much more interesting due to the paranormal element...
Quite like this new (for me) series This is the first one so will see how it goes. Rania can see ghosts! Not something she is too happy about as they always want something from her - to find their murderers and revenge them - not such a big deal huh!
I couldn't put the book down. Should come with a warning label: may experience lack of sleep due to late night reading, no work will be done until the book is completed.
Excellent characters, well developed relationship, very satisfying ending, this book pretty much has it all. The handling of Rania as a Syrian refugee was particularly well done. Planning to read the next in the series.
My first book by this author and I loved it! Great characters and plot and set up for more. Rania and Will work great together and solving cases might just be what they need.
Love the unique paranormal twist for this series, can not wait to read the rest.
I really enjoyed this book, with the twists and turns, and keeping me guessing right up to the end if it would turn out alright. The characters and the humor, side comments being made, and the warmth as the relationships developed made it a book hard to put down.
3 stars. Digital book. Electi, as a concept, is super interesting. For that reason, I might continue the series, but Will was not for me and I fear the other male interests will follow suit and it’ll make it hard for me to continue.
