Sgt. Dunn #10

Lethal Ground

Rate this book
In the tenth book of the Sgt. Dunn WWII Action Thriller series, Munsterman draws from real terrifying and despicable operations the loathsome Nazis planned.

With Germany no longer able to produce an atomic bomb, Adolf Hitler dreams up a terrifying nightmare and orders the Nazi Minster of Armaments, Albert Speer, to make it happen. At Bletchley Park, where the German Enigma code messages are decoded and read daily, analyst Reginald Shepston and his assistant, Eileen Lansford, heroes from Saving Paris, discover the horrendous plot by the Nazi regime.

U.S. Army Ranger Technical Sergeant Tom Dunn is ready for action following a mission to blow up Hitler’s Dam. He takes his squad of lethal Rangers on a creative and subversive mission to France.

Meanwhile, British Commando Sergeant Major Malcolm Saunders meets Pope Pius XII in Colonel Jenkins’ office. Except it isn’t the Pope. It’s a British stage actor who is a perfect look-alike. The Vatican Swiss Guard has learned that the dreaded Nazi SS plans to kidnap the Pope and take him to Germany, where he would be subjected to the cruelty of an unmerciful Hitler. Saunders’ mission is simple: work with the Swiss Guard and keep the real Pope safe, while entrapping the SS with the decoy.

After returning from France, Dunn is assigned to stop the Nazis. He’s shocked and angered by their immoral plan to irradiate the earth near the front lines with their remaining uranium-235. Allied soldiers passing across the lethal ground would be exposed to potentially deadly radiation. With so much at stake, Dunn forms a Ranger platoon. As they fight to stop the Nazis’ horrifying plan, they uncover the depths to which the Nazis will go.

In Lethal Ground, Munsterman reveals the true nature of the Nazis and their view of the world. His page-turning style puts the reader into a WWII story where he masterfully blends history and fiction to create an action-packed plot.

Excellent Series Continues

Ronn Munsterman, RM, has a gift for combining history with fictional characters. His descriptions of the Colosseum and Vatican provide insight without overwhelming the reader in pedantic details. Combining his British commandos with the Vatican's Swiss Guards is great. RM's heros are a nice reminder of the skills, bravery, discipline, and ferocity of U.S. and British Special Operators. Episode 10 is fun and informative.

I have read every one of SGT Dunn books and I have extremely enjoyed all of them with one exception. In this last book the Lethal Ground, I think the author went overboard describing the biographies of every single squad member in SGT Dunn's and SGT Saunders's squads plus a lot of other people. The faithful readers of author Ronn Munsterman already know the background each of these key people and it just seems to me that these biographies could have been a lot less wordy. Other than that, as usual, the story was super great. Looking forward to the next one.

Another Great Read

I almost hate to stop before reading the next bok but it has to be said that Ronn Munsterman has provided another hit. He writes in an exciting and includes enough history and fact that the reader honestly is not aware if it is fiction or not. Ron also brings the characters to life so the reader will laugh, smile and even tear up at parts of the story. Wonderful book and great series. Now, on to the next!

Another good one

I typically read these books in one setting, only with time out to sleep. I can’t even include eating as time out because I read while I eat. Don’t miss the series. The characters will become your friends!

This series continues to stay quite interesting. Based upon possible clandestine challenges and presented within a reasonable context, the Commandos/Rangers continue to execute their missions with great skill and elan.

Wow these books never disappoints. The characters are down to earth and real and the plots are suberb. These heros are owed so much. Can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommend these books.
