Scarlett Walsh is twenty-something, single, and lonely in Chicago. Still reeling from an unexpected breakup that left her broken hearted, Scarlett relies heavily on her group of girlfriends to help heal and move forward. But her friendship with BFF and long-time roommate Tinsley Thompson has turned toxic, and Scarlett is on the brink of moving out – and causing more friction to the already rocky friendship. Wishing to avoid drama amongst their close group of girlfriends, Scarlett attempts to stay focused on her job as a vet tech and the excitement of being a first-time puppy mom instead of confronting Tinsley. The rift between the two friends continues to grow – until a dark secret is shared that will rock the decade-long besties.
This second book in a six-part girlfriend series continues the stories of Scarlett, Breely, Nora, Lauren, Kristy, Tinsley and Scarlett, and takes readers on six individual stories about relationships, career choices, personal conflict and the bond of friendship.
Samantha March is a published author, blogger, and has been passionate about creating stories since a young girl. She now has six published novels – Destined To Fail, The Green Ticket, Up To I Do, A Questionable Friendship and Defining Her – and one holiday novella, The Christmas Surprise, and Kristy, book 1 in The Six series. In addition to her bookish pursuits, she is also a beauty blogger with a growing Youtube channel and shares her love for makeup and beauty in review and tutorial videos. When she isn’t reading, writing, or creating videos, you can find her cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. Samantha currently lives in Iowa with her husband and Vizsla Aries.
I still enjoy these characters and their friendship. I will say that I enjoyed Kristy more than Scarlett, but I was still able to relate to her and I really appreciated that. I feel like most women have had a "toxic" friendship like Scarlett's by the time they hit their 30's and I felt for her.
These novels are enjoyable, but still have some flaws. I still felt like this was a bit short and ended abruptly, but I'm going to keep the story moving for myself and pick up Lauren immediately.
In The Six: Scarlett, the second book in The Six, a six-part girlfriend series, author Samantha March continues to introduce the readers to six girlfriends, with the focus on twenty-five-year-old Scarlett Walsh, mixed with updates on her five best girlfriends: Breely Laver, Nora Wellington, Lauren Begay, Tinsley Thompson, and Kristy Martin.
The reader follows Scarlett as she deals with a growing troubled relationship with her longtime best friend and roommate Tinsley Thompson. Scarlett and Tinsley have been best friends for ten years since high school and roommates since college. But within the past year, their relationship has changed, and it has been getting more toxic by the day. Scarlett is tired of being a doormat and being the recipient of Tinsley's rude behavior and playing second fiddle to the revolving door of guys that Tinsley hooks up with and brings home. Scarlett hates confrontations so she works extra shifts as a vet tech and avoids going home as much as she can, she feels awkward and uncomfortable in her own home and deserves more from their friendship. In addition to her troubles with Tinsley, Scarlett had been in a two-year relationship with boyfriend Cole Klauer and they had made plans to move in together, but six months ago Cole broke up with Scarlett without giving her a reason, and she is still emotionally trying to move forward from the breakup. So with all these emotional issues swirling around, Scarlett decides to move out of their apartment and get an apartment of her own when she was given the chance to adopt one the veterinarian clinic client's female Yorkshire Terrier puppies. Scarlett's decision causes more tension and a bigger rift with Tinsley, and when a dark secret comes to the surface, will their friendship be even more seriously damaged?
The Six is a fun friendship series! Author Samantha March weaves an entertaining chick lit/women's fiction tale that embraces the bonds of female friendships, and the pursuit of personal life goals and choices while in the mid-late twenties. Set in Chicago and told in the first person narrative, I loved following Scarlett's story as she embraces her vet tech job, becomes a puppy mommy, and deals with the challenges in her personal life. You can't help but admire how Scarlett handles her friendship/roommate issues with Tinsley, and how she finally stands up for herself and reclaims her self-empowerment and decides to move forward with her life.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I enjoyed getting to know a bit about each of the six friends, in addition to the quirky friendship dynamic amongst the six girlfriends. The author gives the reader enough of an insight into each of the girls' lives that it makes you want to get to know them more. The girls are so different, but they complement each other so well, it makes you think about your own little group of girlfriends. Finally, at the end of the story, the author gives you a tantalizing sneak peek look into book three: Lauren's story, and how the dynamic of the friends' group is about to change.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This novel follows Scarlett as she deals with the breakdown of her closest friendship with Tinsley Thompson.
I enjoyed this novel less than the previous one of this series - Kristy - for a couple of reasons. I didn't jive with the emotional nature of the main character. Goodness knows she had valid reasons to be upset at points during the novel; I think it was more that I related less with her reactions.
I also felt the time spent on the descriptions of getting a new puppy were too long and numerous for me. Getting a puppy was a key component to the plot and the minutiae of the description is characteristic of these novels, but it didn't compel me. This detail is a defining feature of these novels though and it contributes hugely to feeling readers are left with when you walk away from the book.
The developments in the friendships, which were high drama, did keep me turning the pages and that portion of the plot was far more engaging than the previous novel, interestingly enough. Female friendships are a key component in women's lives and the nature of those relationships deserves deep exploration because they can have as deep an effect as any romantic or familial relationship.
As with the last novel, I felt I wanted to be shown more than we were told through narration. I also felt that the behaviours, reactions and situations were realistic for all the characters. The feeling of incompleteness was stronger with this novel and it feels very much that this story will continue in the next books. I think we'll see Scarlett get some more complete resolution and closure on these issues in the next novels, just as we learned more about Kristy in this book.
Again, as I said with the first novel, this series is an earnest and gentle Sex and the City. It's perfect for anyone looking for a detailed and enjoyable exploration of what it is to be an American, middle class 20-something balancing friendships, family, relationships, values, careers, self-confidence and general adulting.
I think I like this book even more than the first one! The story is a relatable quick read, and I can’t wait for the next one. This is a super cute series about friends, and I’m enjoying it very much!
I knew what to expect more going into the second book of this series. I found the writing to be similar and enjoyable. What this one lacked for me was the main character. I found I couldn't relate to her. It was a weird feeling because I obviously felt for her and took her side but I still couldn't grasp if I enjoyed her story. In the first book, I didn't enjoy the ending. It's not necessarily a cliffhanger feeling but more like the book isn't finished yet. I realized that is how this series is wrapped up in each book to move straight to the next girl without losing much time (as in days) before the story picks up again. The same story flows into the next with different perspectives and new information. It is very much so that same "chick-lit" vibe but she has kept me wanting to know what happens to these girls. My only wish is that I could've known more of what happened with Kristy (from book 1) from Kristy's perspective. I feel like that is going to be a repeated feeling jumping into the next.
I needed a few more chapters in this book but overall it was such a good story.
It’s only the second book in the series but I think Scarlett might be my favorite (or maybe Breely, we shall see). Scarlett the book and girlfriend had one or two ‘mic drop’ moments but not in a good mic drop fashion! I loved that Scarlett finally discovered her voice within a friendship and started caring for her self over others! Lolli definitely arrived in her life at the perfect time.
I still have hopes that Dr. Ross might get another mention in Scarlett’s storyline 😜!
Why I feel there needs to be a chapter or two in this story… I sure do love a good cliff hanger however I feel like we deserved that follow-up talk between Scarlett & Tinsley! Although like it says in the end, pretty much know how it the conversation went.
I had the pleasure of listening to the Audible version of this Samantha March’s novel, “The Six: Scarlett”. It was definitely entertaining.
This is the first of the Six Series books that I’ve read and I will most definitely be reading or listening to the others!!
Scarlett’s story is one that I am sure most of us could relate to, because I know that I did. If you have or have had a best friend or a group of friends where you had a favorite bestie, then you will love this story!
Throughout the book we learn about the trials and tribulations, good and bad of the friendship between these six women.
I truly look forward to reading and learning about the other ladies in the rest of the Six Series.
I loved this book so much. I loved Kristy but I loved this one so much more as it was so relatable. I manage to finish it in 2 sittings which I think is the quickest I have read a book. I couldn’t put it down! I love Samantha’s writing style it’s so effortless and you feel like you are right there with all the girls.
I love how she connected Kristys story in and also recapped in case you hadn’t read that book. It just felt like a seamless part of the story.
I can’t wait for the next book and the rest of the series. Samantha has definitely reignited my love of reading.
If you’ve ever had a BFF, you’re going to love Scarlett. March captures the friendship mode of six women, the tension, the happiness, the serious glitches, the real feeling of life with girlfriends. Good job on backstory, which helps with the big picture! Sometimes blame, sometimes a generous hand, and always real, deep feelings that ring true. I wanted to have coffee with Scarlett--she's an emotional girl, and honest, and I can imagine a good talk with her. Looking forward to the next one!
This book was a very fantastic and relatable read. Scarlett Walsh is at a crossroads in her friendship all the while trying to come to terms with her longtime boyfriend breaking up with her. But when secrets from the past come to light, nothing will ever be the same. This book is so relatable on so many levels and I love that about this book. Samantha is becoming one of my favorite authors. I'm excited to read more.
I enjoyed Scarlett more than Kristy and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Scarlett was a quick and enjoyable read, it has a good balance of happy and upsetting scenes. However both books in the series have me longing for more depth in character development. Like I mentioned in my Kristy review, I want to emphasize again that I typically don't read chick-lit and therefor might not be the right person to review a book in this genre.
The second book in The 6 Series from Samantha March did not disappoint. It was wonderful to continue the story from Scarlett's perspective while still being kept up to date with what was happening with Kristy and the other girls. It also had quite the surprise which I did not see coming. I highly recommend this series and Scarlett if you enjoy an entertaining read but especially if you enjoy reading about women and friendships.
I really have been enjoying The Six series by Samantha March and am excited to read Lauren next.
Scarlett I really couldn’t put down. I was very invested in her story and learning more about her and Tinsley’s relationship!! By the end though it left me wanting more of their storyline that I wish Tinsley was book number 3.
I did love how the character of Scarlett seemed to become stronger and develop a “take-no-crap” attitude throughout the story.
I honestly preferred Kristy (the first book in the series) over Scarlett but I am enjoying getting the build up of each character in their own separate books. Just as quick of a read as Kristy but not as fulfilling and I’m not exactly sure why. I enjoyed the Scarlett story but it didn’t feel complete to me whereas Kristy did.
This second book is 10x better than Kristy! & I loved Kristy! The drama is juicier. The characters are developing! & I can’t wait to learn more about these characters!
One thing I liked is how there was a small refresher on the characters from the previous book in the first few pages. One topic this novel explores that sometimes some friends aren't who they seem. I got a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this book alot, once I started reading I couldnt put it down. Storyline kept me entertained and wanting to know what happens next. Keep the books coming as I cant wait the stories of the 4 remaining friends.
(3.5 stars) The Six: Scarlett is the second book I’ve read by beauty Youtuber and chick-lit author Samantha March and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in The Six series when they come out. Like the first book (The Six: Kristy), The Six: Scarlett had likeable characters, realistic but ever so slightly over the top drama, and a good plot.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. You like books that are just real? Like a book that could be written about your group of friends? Then look no further than this series. The Six is a modern day Baby Sitter's Club minus the baby sitting! I loved getting to know Kristy in the first book, but Scarlett is my fave girl in the six so far. Samantha does the most amazing job of building up the drama in this one and when you find out, you're gonna feel like you're Scarlett and feeling each emotion as she does. I still am pissed about the "dark secret". If you are a fan of perfectly written chick lit, then this is the book for you! The Six: Scarlett is a 5 star read and I promise you will be counting down until the next girl's book is released.
