Silverpines #12

Wanted: A Trusting Heart

Rate this book
A series of disasters wipe out the men in the town of Silverpines, Oregon, leaving the women to take unconventional measures in order to save and grow their town.

A Chinook Indian by heritage, Dawn was orphaned and given to a white family as a slave. They raised her like one of their own, alongside their daughter Laura.
Dawn soon finds herself falling for Jake, who recently moved to Silverpines, following his brother from Texas. Jake gets to know Dawn well and soon realizes that he has fallen in love with her. The catch? Though society had come a long way, it still held prejudices against Native Americans, and the whites who married them. Through prejudice and calamities, the two will have to fight for their love and trust in one another with all their hearts.
Are Dawn and Jake willing to take the risk for love? Can they face the prejudices together? This is part of a series but a stand-alone read.

AKA Barbara A. Masci & Barbara Masci-Goss

From Kindle Author Page:

Barbara Masci Goss is now just Barbara Goss. I live in Western New York State and have three grown sons, two step daughters and 10 grandchildren. I wrote my books in the early '90's and now that I'm retired I have obtained the book rights and am converting them to Kindle. That's exciting for me because I don't read paper books at all anymore. I have designed new covers with a new author name: Barbara Goss. My first two books "Captured Heart" and "Forbidden Legacy" went to a second printing in the mid '90's and the publisher added my name as Barbara Masci-Goss, but I now prefer to keep it short and sweet.

From Author Website:

I'm from Western New York, and I live with my husband and two cats, Mandy and Molly.

I wrote these books in the early 1990's in paperback. My publishers were Fleming Revell and Baker Book House.

Now, I have the rights and have put them out on E-Books so people can still enjoy them.

My goal in writing these books is to provide clean but still romantic and adventurous novels for all ages. I've always felt that we needed more clean, wholesome books. When I wrote these books there were but a handful of Christian romance writers. Now, thankfully there are more. My biggest influence in writing was Grace Livingston Hill. Enjoy.

Dawn has gone through life living with a family that was white, even though she is a Chinook. They took her in, given to them by the Chief of the tribe in exchange for saving his life. The family refused to treat her as a slave and she was raised with their daughter Laura. Laura eventually grew up and married. Dawn remained with Laura helping where she could.
Laura's Husband's brother Jake came to visit and was immediately taken with Dawn, but she resisted due to her heritage. She had a dream of finding her true heritage and uncovering her last name.
Jake resolved to put those fears to rest for Dawn. Plot twists and intrigue await! You will love this book. It shows that love can conquer all! (with a little prodding!)
I received an ARC of this book for honest review. All opinions in the review are my own.

Another wonderful addition to the Silverpines Series. This heartwarming story is about Dawn, an orphaned Indian who was taken in by a white family in town. Jake, has recently moved to Silverpines and he and Dawn find themselves drawn to each other. But wanting to get married stirs up prejudices in town and they have to pull together to fight for their love.
I cannot wait for more in this series, although each book can be read as a standalone. This series has been an amazing effort for all authors involved and Barbara Gross adds a great addition in this story.

Good book

The story of Jake and Dawn was really good, but I did miss the town of Silverpines. There was very little.

Dawn is half Chinook Indian and half French. She was given to Laura’s family as a slave when she was left orphaned. However, Laura’s family treated Dawn as their own and the girls grew up as sisters. Now 27yo, Dawn wants to settle down and have a family. She is in love with Jake, Laura’s brother-in-law, but she is afraid that Jake will lose business if he marries an Indian...so she rebuffs Jake when he asks to court her. Jake can’t believe that Dawn refused him and vents his frustrations to his brother, only to be told the real reason. Now Jake is ready to show Dawn that he can handle whatever is thrown at him. However, every romance needs some drama so in comes Mercy, who has her eyes set on Jake. Will Mercy’s machinations win Jake over? Will Dawn really walk away from the man she loves? When Dawn finds herself in a strange city, she relies on her faith and the aid of a pastor to help...is returning to SilverPines and Jake what God has in store for Dawn or is He sending her somewhere else?
Ahhhhh, there’s so much going on in this book that you won’t be able to stop reading/listening!!! There’s a scheming woman, an enamored Chinook Indian and two very determined lovebirds...just what you expect in a western romance! Great story and narration.
I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

he Silverpines series is so wonderfully written, and Dawn's story really is one that translates through time. Dawn is a Chinook who lost her parents, and was given to a white family as a slave. She was not treated as a slave, but as a member of the family. When Jake shows an interest in her though, she feels that her heritage would not be accepted as a mixed marriage. Luckily, Jake thinks differently. This story is short, but full of well developed story lines! Mercy, a beautiful woman looking for a husband, sets her sights on Jake. Her actions greatly affect the outcome of Jake and Dawn, and not in the way Mercy expects. The Chinook connection that Dawn makes also shows the traditions and values the tribes have. It's eye opening to see how they view mixed marriage and what they will do to keep their woman. It's action packed, full of suspense and a wonderful ending.

Narrated by Persephone Rose, the story flows with smooth, melodic voices. Rose does an amazing job with the different voices and accents with the characters. I look forward to additional narrations

This story picks tells the story of another character in Ms Goss’ story Wanted Horse Breeder. This is Dawn’s story. She us half Indian and half white man in a world where Indians didn’t quite belong. She wants to know who her parents were, what her background is. She us hopelessly in love with a white man but can’t bring herself to let him know that due to her heritage. Will her search help her find herself? Or will it bring more heartache? This story has love, fear, confusing, determination, fighting for honor, and finding your dreams.

As in all Ms Goss’ books there is slight words referring to having sex. Like consummating and wondering if it will hurt. What’s it like the first time etc. So if you are scanning for a preteen advanced reader it’s up to you to know if your child would understand/be curious.

These are “clean” books no actual sexual activity and no language you will enjoy Ms. Goss’ books.

Follow Your Dreams

Dawn knows little about her heritage other than that as an orphaned Chinook child she was given to a white family as a house slave. Treated by the family as a sister to Laura she is nonetheless aware of the casual discrimination practiced by most, both white and Indian. She resolves three things: to discover more about her family; to put aside her feelings for Laura's brother-in-law; and to find and marry an Indian. Countering this meaty core is an almost Gothic series of events that keeps the action going at a furious pace. As read by narrator Persephone Rose, the story comes to life and one willingly suspends disbelief (although I admit to, more than once, wanting to shake some sense into someone or another--you know, like yelling "Don't go in the house!" to the movie screen) to reach a satisfying ending.

Great story!
Dawn and Jake are two special people who were meant to meet, meant to fall in love and meant to live happily ever after.
This story is a perfect example of how trust and belief can change things for the better.
It also shows that when you have a brilliantly talented pair of artistes working together, as we have in Barbara Goss and Persephone Rose, then one gets a beautiful, interesting and very entertaining story.
I loved this story from beginning to the end, as well as the characters who seem to fumble their way through life (like so many of us do - even if we can't admit to it), the selfishness of some of the characters and the friendship and love shown by others.
All in all this audiobook was a delight to listen to and I happily recommend it.
I listened to the audiobook version and my review above is unbiased and given voluntarily.

More to Dawn and Jake's story, from #2 Wanted: Horse Breeder. I had hoped to like this book, based on #2, but it wasn't really even worth reading. The problems just went on and on and on and on. Just when you thought they were ok, something else terrible happened. It seemed a bit too unbelievable and was not enjoyable.
Dawn is really feeling her roots and wishes she knew more about her people, culture, and last name. She's worried how society will treat them if she marries Jake. I think it was realistic that the author dealt with that as that's how things would have been, at least in some places, back then.
I liked both the characters. But...the author used all the names of various other real life authors from this series as names for her characters. I would expect an author to be able to come up with their own names instead...It was just weird and distracted a lot from the story.

I really enjoyed this one but it was very much a Murphy's Law romance... What can go wrong, will go wrong... can love conquer all the challenges that are thrown their way? It was a sweet and yet frustrating romance because of all of the challenges... It shows love is stronger than cultural differences and discrimination at a time when it was all to prevalent. I thought they did a good job with the narration too. I would recommend this one to those who enjoy a good clean romance set in the 1800's.

Love this series.

Dawn is a beautiful woman with an amazing heart. She has been through so much. She still loves someone enough that she would want him to find someone else to love better suited than her. Jake is in love with Dawn and wants no one else. She is Indian raised in a white household as a sister. Her parents had died and a man saved the chief of the chinook tribe. In exchange they were given Dawn as a slave. They never considered her as a slave. Instead she was a daughter and sister to Laura. Amazing story packed full of surprises.

I liked the characters in the story but I didn't care for Dawn's selfishness. She left her family not knowing what had happened to her because she didn't want to ask for money and yet she had no problem asking people to spend days traipsing through the wilderness for her. Having fallen in love with her sister and brother in law in their story I was upset for them and just couldn't enjoy this story.

I loved this book. It totally brought out the romantic in me.

Loved it that Barbara Goss included some enlightening facts about the Indian culture, particularly the Chinook tribe's lifestyle and heritage.

The narration was good and entertaining, though I found it a bit lacking in providing justice to the voices of the female characters.

Wanted: A Tusting Heart by Barbara Goss is so sweet and heart warming. The story was about two lovers who fought for their love all the way through obstacles but never gave up and hold on to their love. The trust they have for each other was so strong they managed to go through everything. This story is light and sweet. This is definitely a nice read for a feel good romance!

Wanted: A Trusting Heart was another great read by Barbara Goss. Dawn is a Chinook Indian who was orphaned and given to a white family as a slave. Instead of being their slave, she was raised as one of their own. She is falling in love with Jake as he has her. But there are still prejudices about Native Americans and the white people who marry them. I loved reading Jake and Dawn's story.

Wanted a trusting heart

A great book on love and how some people can get jealous so quick they act first and think later. The Chinook Indians are a peaceful tribe and try to get along with the whites without causing any problems. This book has been a lesson in what one can do and learn as they go forward in love. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I like how the author had her characters deal with stereotypes and race; how they look to the heart of a person and not the color of their skin or their nationality. I have come to really enjoy Barb Goss as an author. The narrator did a very good job.

I have received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Wonderful book

Another gem in the Silverpines series. This one by Barb Gods was really good and I couldn’t put it down.Unfortunately prejudice towards Indians was a very real problem back then but this story overcomes a lot of that with love. But not everyone is happy about it.

Another great book in the Silverpines series. Barbara Goss does a fantastic job with this one. The story was unexpected at times and it had me saying, "What No!" Then it had me shaking my head and wanting to kill the heroine.

Ooo, up until the halfway point there were several times I was ready to throw my Kindle in aggravation. The story is excellent, the annoyance is because of a character who is a little too well written.
