Broken Record

Rate this book

Sometimes I wonder if my dreams will ever come true.

I've neglected everything else, including my relationships, to reach my goal of getting a record deal. I moved out to LA when I was eighteen just to have a shot at becoming a recording artist. I had so much hope then... But I'm not getting any younger.

Maybe there is one last opportunity to follow my dreams, though. It comes in the form of Heather, a very successful owner of one of the most famous recording studios in the city. Through her, I might actually have a shot.

But I'm not ready for all the feelings that come with meeting her.

I haven't had a lot of luck in my romantic life.

My business may be very successful and I'm grateful for that, but I'm lonely. The only family I have is my grandmother and every romantic relationship I get into doesn't seem to pan out. I want to find happiness, but it feels just out of reach. No woman I meet really clicks for me.

Until I meet Lindsay, a stunning young musician looking for a record deal. I have to admit, I was initially very attracted to her. But I have to stuff those feelings down. She's straight and even if she wasn't, she's too young for me. A girl in her mid twenties isn't going to be interested in a woman nearing her mid thirties.

No matter how much I tell myself to, though, I can't seem to stay away. Am I fooling myself into think she's interested in me too?

This is a standalone lesbian romance novel and also contains a preview of my upcoming release.

This would be a great beach read. It's a sweet love story and worth the time if you aren't looking for anything heavy.

This was a nice, quick romance read & I enjoyed the characters of Lindsay & Heather a lot more than LOVE ME NOT's MCs. I really loved the addition of grandma Mary & her pearls of wisdom, that was a wonderful touch. I do think the end wrapped up rapidly & the HEA wasn't completely believable, but it was enjoyable enough for a beachy read. I would have liked to seen Lindsay's record producing experience more flushed out & what it was like making her first (contracted) album, but it's really about the romance at the end of the day. There's a sweet couple in here & liked how everything played out overall. Definitely recommend over Bryant's other novel.

Lindsay is a singer-songwriter who's been living in LA for 7 years trying to break into the music business and working as a waitress. Heather owns a record label. Neither one is dating. Lindsay thinks she's straight and Heather is a lesbian. Because each is connected to a nice elderly lady named Mary, they meet and on the basis of an audition, Lindsay is offered a recording contract. The first half of the book is the usual will they won't they plot, and it is well done.

This is a book that was pretty strong for the first 2/3 and then didn't have as strong an ending (usually books go in the opposite direction). I liked both characters and I felt that they needed to be together. One thing the author did that was unnecessary was to write the same scene from each character's POV, which in an of itself is fine, but she repeated the exact same dialogue in the retelling instead of handling it differently.

There was also an offer of a "final chapter" if you sign up for her email list, a new marketing trick being used more and more. I've done this twice and in each case the "final chapter" was a big disappointment.

I'm giving this 4 starts though it's more like 3.5, but I'm rounding up because I was engaged in the story of the two characters for most of the book.

Broken Record — Edie Bryant (14 chapters + Epilogue) May 29-June 8, 2017)

This was another book I thought would be a quick, fun read. WRONG-O!

I really liked the premise of the story. But the author spent WAY TOO MUCH time stuck in descriptive sections. It was all inner-thoughts of one character or another. If those parts would have been edited and tightened, I would have enjoyed the story a lot more. It had a very good premises; and it probably would’ve been a quick read, but the passiveness of the writing forced me to to read other books at the same time as this one. Also it was written in alternating voices between the two characters. There are two places in the same scene was described twice almost word for word except it used each characters thoughts; those scenes could have been written combining those two voices. Towards the end the the story became very predictable and convenient, to the point that it no longer felt believable. Finally, I'm not one that believes age matters in love, but there were POV that didn’t exactly line up.

I had high hopes for this book, but I ended up speed reading in the middle to the end. Very occasionally, a scene caught my attention and I slowed down to read it, but nothing really felt missing at the end.

One star.

Unfortunately, this was written poorly enough that I felt completely uninvested with either of the characters. I tried to stick it out for the romance but it felt fake and I couldn't do it.

Excellent story

This is the first book I read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. The story flow easy and natural, it's romantic and a little sad. Lindsay is very insecure about her sexuality but as soon as she accepted that Heather is her soulmate, her love and her future she committed to the relationship. The characters are charming and you feel like actually know them. I can't wait for her second book to read it, and I definitely recommend "broken record" and this author.

Such a sweet story

Much to short for my taste. This is such an amazing love story, but as soon as we get invested in the story it's over. HEA ,yes but leaving the reader definitely wanting more. Even the bonus chapter was great just not enough to satisfy my taste for a full love story.
Ok .. I'm done winning..lol

Sweet story

This was a really nice romance. I really liked Mary and her philosophy on love. I think Heather and Lindsey were great characters.
