It all begins when a special military operative Ken Ares saves his mark named Mary Brown a woman tortured through horrid experiments in a 'hospital' facility in Chile.

He though he d never see her again but then months later, she's an embed journalist on his mission in Afganistan. And all he wants is to have a full control over her protection that he sets ground rules of conduct that Mary utterly refuses to obey and she's acting rebelious and contrary to his command which leads her in danger...Ken flips over it and ends her mission by sending her to the one man he trusts to help her beyond physical measures...his brother, a doctor, military surgeon....and Mary's aversion and deep fear from any sign of doctors or hospitals makes her shut down completely.

But that process of freeing Mary from her deep scars and shadows looming only gets complicated when the real identity of hers comes to light.

The game is changed. The feelings are questioned. And the control is flimsy...

but Ken won't give up until Mary complitely surrenders to him.
Body. Mind. Soul.

The story sounded fantastic even in the blurb. But when I started reading it, all these little imbeded segments of BDSM conduct made no sense to me at first...and still until the very end I find them questionable as a means to 'break then mend' a person that was already broken and programmed to feel and react a certain way.

But this is the vision the author wanted to go with so I really can't dwell on that, I can only base my logic after examining my own feels. And to tell you the truth, I didnt get it, despite the very intriguing storyline that very segment implemented into the story sat wrongly with me and I really couldnt relax and enjoy as I hoped I would.

I can’t decide how to I feel about this book. I loved it and hated it. Lately I’ve been all over the place with the genres I’ve been reading. Every now and then, I like a dark one. It wasn’t really dark. All the bad things that happened to Mary had happened in the past. But the biggest problem I had was that different parts of the story didn’t flow together very well. Like when everything is going good, strange men come in saying Mary is a spy. This causes Ken not to trust her because she never told him this about her. Instead of this being talked about, the story goes straight into her being held by Ken’s boss and him training her military like and acting like he never knew her. And I didn’t like the character Mary. To have been through so much, she was so immature. She really got on my nerves. Between that and Tom’s actions, it bordered on ridiculous. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I don’t know enough about this genre to judge. Read it for yourself and decide. And let me know.

I'm giving this story a 3.5 because to be honest, I don't know what it was about her, but I just couldn't connect to Mary. I know she was a strong character, she had to be to survive all she has but I couldn't get into it. Ken was great! The first chapter pulled me in but after that, I started to drift a little bit. I did read the whole story and while it was intense and had a lot of drama and mystery, it's not one of my favorites by this author!

An INTENSE, Character-driven, “enemies- to-lovers” romantic MUST-READ.
Wow, just WOW! EVERYTHING I have ever read by Loki Renard has been impressive. So, I leaped at the opportunity to purchase, read, and review a copy of her newest novel, “SCAR.” Her prose is eloquent, detailed, and easy to read. Her characters are realistic, flawed, and yet are the strongest and most amazing survivors! Additionally, her plots are complex and captivating! In “SCAR,” this reader was fascinated by the evolution of Mary’s character. The character classified herself as “broken”, “all messed up,” and a “danger to others.” As the story was told, the author gave tidbits of additional information through conversation and/or the action of the story, which allowed readers to “discover” throughout the progression of the plot just how much of that self-description was accurate, and how much was a figment of Mary’s damaged thinking. She fascinated me, but Ken’s devotion to her fascinated me even more. It was not until one of the last chapters that I experienced that “Aha!” moment and everything made sense. In today’s world where the media is suspect, the government is suspect, and corporations are suspect, “SCAR” is a formative ROMANCE of our time, with a MUST-READ “enemies- to-lovers” trope that will draw readers’ attention and will not release it until the last page is read. It is that good! With a HIGHLY rated 5+STAR review, “SCAR” is the MUST-BUY for that back to school moment which frees up time for those summer-weary mothers looking for an escape from the sudden quiet of the home. Purchase your copy of “SCAR” today! Happy reading! 😉

~ Enough light and trust to fight the dark ~

Ken Ares has been solely focused on his latest job to infiltrate an ultra-secretive facility to break out one single person, a small woman innocuously named Mary Brown, only to carry with his next task a mere hour later after having safely loaded her onto a helicopter. Over a year passes before their paths cross again, but this time, Mary appears sporting journalist credentials and requesting to be embedded with Ken and his men on their missions.

For one week, they had time to be together to catch up and then become involved in a fast and hot relationship while carrying out dangerous assignments, but it soon becomes clear that Mary needs the kind of help that Ken is not equipped to provide besides his limited time and protection. He reaches out to his brother Tom to help protect Mary and hopefully use his skills to do what Ken could not accomplish. Mary, though, as they soon discover, is a tightly wound enigma, beginning with the reasons why she was found in the facility she was rescued from to begin with.

The ravaged mental, physical and soul components of Mary could be perhaps be salvaged with the right nurturing environment. Fortunately for her, with the help of Ken, Tom and further support, Mary might just be able to make enough sense of who and what she is to finally become the person she wants to be.

This was an excellent read, delving into the mind of someone who felt she had nothing left of herself after her ordeal, and those of people who saw enough to recognize that she was indeed worth saving.

The first chapter of Scar was so gripping I was immediately drawn in and couldn’t wait to see where this story would go. Then the chance encounter when Mary and her rescuer Ken reunite seemed completely happenstance but still promising with the chemistry and dynamic that was brewing. The story moves along in fast forwarded spurts. For instance, Mary and Ken reunite, then Mary is assigned to Ken and then in the next scene he’s spanking her for mouthing off. The plot lacks some of the natural progression and transitions that would make up a more realistic narrative. Also, I would assume a trained special forces operative would know how to exert dominance and control over someone without calling them “little girl” and having to dole out spankings. I understand the psychological necessity for Mary but it’s introduced early on and again not worked up to. Although they have a bond forged due to Ken rescuing Mary, they spend about an hour in each others presence during the rescue and when they meet again a year later there’s this physical familiarity that seems odd seeing as how Mary was in shock during their first encounter. Also, the editing needs some work. For instance, Mary describes her scars as “anal retentive marks” and there a few typos and grammar errors throughout. There are some unforeseen surprises regrading Mary's past and her uncertain future but the story could use some reworking. The concept is good and overall it was enjoyable to read even if it wasn’t completely feasible.

I enjoyed reading this complicated story of the many scars of Mary's, she has obvious scars of the flesh but the more troublesome ones are hidden deep in her mind and soul. Mary went through torture that would totally destroy a person but she is no weakling, she is a warrior! Ken gets into the top secret facility that is conducting the horrific experiments on Mary, he rescues her then sends her off in a helicopter according to his orders. Mary is someone that Ken won't forget easily. A year later, he gets paired off with Mary, the journalist in Afghanistan where he is conducting a covert mission while she writes about the experiences of the land, war and people. Mary is messed up mentally and emotionally so Ken sends her off to his brother Tom, a former military doctor who Ken believes will be able to get through to Mary and help her. Mary needs to learn to trust, but she has many secrets that will take time to reveal and help her heal. The story keeps you guessing and hoping for a good outcome for Mary but she is so complicated and keeps so much to herself. Mary needs to be broken and put back together into a functioning woman with love, trust and care. I loved Ken's brother Tom who used love and tenderness to help Mary, while Ken used love and passion when he could be with Mary. I am happy to say, this does have a HEA. I was worried that all the angst, suffering and darkness would take over, but Mary is stronger than that.

Ken is here to save Mary from the Hell that they put her in. He never expected to see her again. Over a year later these to meet up again. Mary is a journalist and a fighter. She is not going to let what happened to her stop her from moving on. Ken hasn’t forgotten her and having to take her with is just another job or is it.

You have to feel for Mary. For one, she has gone through something serious. And when you find out what was done, it is shocking but she is a tough cookie. Her trust issue is understandable. The war torn area that is described is right out of the news and you can almost feel the despair. Her and Ken do have chemistry but during war, things are complicated. I do enjoy the sexual chemistry that Ken and Mary have. And man can Mary drop the F bomb. LOL Then we throw in Tom. Really??!!! NO, we do not need complications. That aside, Tom is actually what Mary needs. It’s like each man has their own style that she greatly needs to set her straight and calm her down. But her past is scary crazy. I thought the news in the world now was crazy but her past WOW. The roller coaster ride of Mary’s life is one you have to strap yourself in for. Thank goodness for Ken and Tom.

OMG! Loki Renard is absolutely a genius author. Her clear, vibrant, spot-on description immediately pulled me into the emotional turmoil of each of her characters! My heart was thumping the first time Ken sees Mary naked. I felt shyness and a fear of what would be revealed and then our author added just a tiny drop of humor, and I was again completely encapsulated in her words. And then, I stop and read it all again, just so I can revel in the feelings those words are able to evoke within my heart.

This story is so ugly and so beautiful. I cannot comprehend the pain one human can cause another, and then the magnificent, selfless healing that other humans can share with the one so injured. At some points, I can’t stand to continue reading, but, even more importantly, I can’t stand to stop. This story of love and pain, acceptance and transformation is filled with an intensity that stirs every human emotion I have ever experienced. Do yourself a huge favor, and read this book.

This book started out with a bang! It had a great premise and some excellent twists. There were some parts I feel could have been developed further however.

The character development overall was solid. I felt an excellent connection with Mary and a good one with Ken and Tom individually. The world building was Loki Renards’ element. The author really emphasized every detail possible. There were occasional times though where it became the world building seemed to overshadow the plot.

The first chapter really hooked me on the storyline. However, it did fall flat a bit after such a strong opening. The twists did bring me back in but I would have preferred it to be a more natural and consistent plot progression. I also feel the author could have really utilized the darkness, especially with the first chapter. The hardest part for me was the interaction between the two brothers and Mary. Going further in the relationship between all three and I would be really signing the praises.

4 stars for an original premise with solid twists!

Scar by Loki Regard
Trust Is Everything !
Ken is a special op soldier sent to Chili to rescue a woman in a top secret facility. Mary is practically dead but he gets her out. She makes an impression on him with her bravery but then she disappears and turns up again a year later in Afghanistan. They begin to fall in love, she gets into trouble and he sends her home to his brother.

Mary is hiding many secrets and has severe trust problems. Trouble finds her again and Ken is reassigned and his new job is her after one of those secrets is revealed!

This is a fast paced, never a dull moment page Turner story. It’s loaded with danger, a few tears, sweet sexy loving. A hot alpha dominate soldier and feisty female.

This was my first book by Loki Renard but not my last, I’m about to read more. ….pat….

Heart Wrenching

Wow. Talk about heart wrenching. I admit I did a lot of bawling reading this story. Mary is broken. But broken is such an understatement. If ever a soul needed saving, hers is definitely it. Physically, mentally, spiritually she needs to be stripped of everything life has taught her. She has given up and it will take a person of great character and strength to tear down the walls she has erected. You come to understand that she is a survivor, she is strong and she can and will rise from the ashes like the Phoenix she is. That's where Ken comes in and in no small order, his older brother Tom, too. These are the men who will not give up on Mary even though she has lied about practically everything from the beginning of their relationships. They give her the safety and love she has craved since the beginning of her tragic life.

I really liked this book. It is about Mary, Ken and Tom. Mary appears small and waif like but is actually very dangerous. She lives her life in compartments so never really tells the truth. There are always pieces missing. Ken, a special operative, rescues her from an experimental hospital never expecting to see her again. To his shock she turns up in Afghanistan as a journalist. She is to shadow Ken. Here her danger to herself and everyone around her becomes very apparent. Unable to contain her, Ken sends Mary back to the USA to his brother Tom warning Tom about how dangerous and uncontrollable she is. Each character becomes more developed from this point on. How is Mary scarred. Will she ever become a contributing citizen. Will this wild, tempestuous, uncontrollable and dangerous woman ever find happiness? I recommend you to read the book and find out.

Intense, Powerful Female but broken

Mary has been broken mentally and physically throughout her entire life. She was never loved or cared for. She was used for other people’s purpose and missions. She never got to live for herself or be cared for by anyone. However, she doesn’t even know herself what she needs until she meets Ken & Tom Ares, brothers who offer her exactly what she needs to heal, fight, love, and find herself again. This story has harsh triggers but Mary is strong and resilient which makes her one tough cookie. Ken is smitten by her the moment he rescued her but what he comes to learn real soon as she rescued him as well. You will enjoy this military dark romance with strong alpha males who know how to tame, love, free their broken woman. Happy Reading!!

I am not sure what to say about this book. When I first read the blurb, it sounded amazing. The first chapter was fantastic and I couldn't put the book down. I was so wanting to find out more. Then once I got further into the book, It started to get a little bit strange. The characters meet up by chance and their relationship just moves in a weird direction. The BDSM parts didn't really fit and seemed forced and unnecessary. And another character was introduced and he had his own ways and it just seemed awkward. I get what the author was trying to accomplish with the discipline parts, but something was just off with that. There were some really plot twists and turns and the general premise of book is good, but the book itself fell short for me.

really enjoyed this one from Ms Renard. I always enjoy her books but this one especially kept me glued to my kindle until I finished it. I am usually not a huge fan of stories told in the first person present style but somehow I didn't mind too much because the actual content was so compelling. Mary was an extremely damaged character who needed something that most people could not provide but Ken and Tom might just be strong enough to help her, maybe. There is a completely unexpected twist and double twist which makes Mary even more interesting. There is action, hot erotic scenes, some eye watering discipline punishments and intrigue, it does what it says on the tin. I really was entertained.

This was an excellent book I loved every word and couldn't put it down, Mary is one strong ,feisty, deadly woman with so many layers to her and I loved them all and I really felt her struggle to just live and with Ken his dominance and doing what needs to be done to keep her in line was intense and I never knew what was going to happen next never a dull moment, these two were super intense and I couldn't get enough. I really liked Tom and his tenderness plus his dominance it fit perfectly in the story and helped Mary so much and I would love to see him get his own story. These characters will leave your heart pounding and was so well written and keeps you on the edge at all times.

Awesome!

I am a real fangirl of Loki. There has not been one book that I haven't loved and this is no different.

Ken is a soldier, whether he is working privately or with the military. He has orders to infiltrate and save Mary. Several months later they cross paths again but what Ken doesn't know is that Mary has some very dark, buried secrets. After he has her sent home from the war zone, his brother Tom takes her back to his and Kens' house. While Ken is her 'sir', Tom takes on the role of her 'daddy'. The sex\spanking scenes were hot. 🔥🔥

This is a must read for Loki fans.

I inhaled this book in 1setting

As former military and female I relate hardcore to Mary, but the brothers stole my heart. We all have secrets and some of them can kill you out of sight and mind over time. (MST/PTSD)
Add two fiery alpha dominate males on each side of the spectrum and a sexy, confused badass female in the mix and you have a book to wet your appetite for sex, doms, and a couple of twists in the story to spice it up to a three alarm fire.
If you like military guys read this. Loki made my dreams come true for 6 hours and didn't even give me both guys! But I loved the pain as much as the pleasure. No other teasers here.

This book has an interesting storyline and didn't go as I thought it would. The twist in the tale that Mary wasn't who they thought she was, wasn't anything I was expecting and kept me on my toes.
For Ken to drag her to help and back to get through to Mary and safe her was an intriguing journey for both character's and me as a reader. I loved Tom and how he gave Mary the love and nurturing care and support system to truly accept herself, as a person and make Mary finally give in and surrender control to the man in her life. Great story felt there could be more to this story of it had been broken in to 2 books and seeing what the future held for the two.

Really don't know how to even begin to review this.
1st book by this author I've read and it really just lagged for me.
The first chapter was really good but then I got confused with the BDSM thrown in... felt forced and didn't feel like it flowed. Then it just had too much world building information to even get into the plot and I didn't find the dark element the book lead you to believe it would be. What Mary went through was in the past and I guess that's where the dark element came in to play, but Mary just got on my nerves with her immaturity. Sorry, not my type of book.
"Seemed to have an original premise though."

While this book was a good quick read but it left me wanting more. The direction she started with was brilliant and I was ready to continue the ride... but we kinda stopped and well slowed down. I can see what she was doing adding the BDSM themes in which is possibly why she added 'Dark' in there. This wasn't a dark theme read. I really loved the alpha men in this book and wanted to see them continue more. I got a little confused in the middle with the training. I found myself re-reading parts trying to understand. This is a first from this author and I feel like I would read from her again.

Wow, this story is fabulous. Military romance is not my first choice but since it was written by one of my favorite authors, I decided to take a chance. Boy, am I glad I did. The character development is phenomenal and the premise is unique. I loved the connection between Mary, Ken and Tom. Mary has so many layers and secrets that it takes two men to keep her safe. I really liked how each man had their place and needs met in the relationship while keeping mary from her destructive tendencies. Great story!

This was Loki Renard's best book ever!
I loved Mary's character. She was taken advantage of and left broken and deemed unfixable. Her saviour, Ken, was such an alpha male. Dominating, fearless, and a true strong male. He and Mary met up again, and they seemed to be true soulmates, and I was so happy for Mary to finally find love .
Then along came Tom, and he tried to fix Mary too! My heart broke for Tom because he is the epitomy of kindness and goodness.
Loki I have read a lot of your books and this one, by far, is one of your best ever!

This story has it all love, suspense , violence and intrigue. Alpha male rescues damsel in distress only to be separated. Months later fate intervenes and they are once again thrown together. But secrets and lies will tear them apart because things are not as they seem. Can trust be restored or is this a case where love may not be enough. Characters are well written and the plot twists will have you in disbelief. Really enjoyed this story first book I have read from this author but it definitely won’t be the last.

I enjoyed this story very much. It did not have as much graphic sex as many of this author's works and was closer to a character study than most of the other books I have read by this author. I liked all the MC's but did not connect emotionally to them. I am not sure if the disconnect was on me or the way the story was written.
The story is told in multiple POV'S, mostly Ken and Mary with a couple of chapters on Tom's POV. I did like knowing everyones POV.
I highly recommend this book; however, if you are looking for a sex packed story line, this is not that book.

Was just a little confused with this one... my first read by this author was won over from the very first chapter.... Ken the Hot alpha oolala ..Mary... hmmm not so much and Tom... hmmm Was moving right along then got side tracked there in the middle and just felt maybe a little too much was being push into the story …. could see where maybe it was going but then got clogged up with baggage I didn't think needed to be included but what do I know ….over all enjoyed the book but at times felt I had to work to hard to keep up.

Mary is such a sweet and innocent little 👼 - just don't get on her bad side
Ken is the take no prisoners alpha who has no qualms about doling out a stern punishment when he deems it necessary
Then there is Tom - a comforting port in the worst of storms
If you are looking for a romance that will keep your adrenaline level spiked while at the same time giving your heart the warm fuzzies look no further
Action packed with more twists and turns than Lombard street
