A great read! I loved the themes and the unique setting, it’s always refreshing to step into a world totally unlike our own. The stories that especially stood out to me were the ones to do with the cannibal woman and the Kaa. I couldn’t get enough of the vast amounts of storytelling packed into such a small package.

The only issue I had was with the incomplete introduction into the world. Throughout the first story I was completely swamped with unfamiliar terms and references, and although I have a large tolerance for this type of thing, I found it became too arduous too fast. After finishing the entire collection I still feel as though I would be completely lost reading it. It became less overbearing for the rest of the stories, but was still consistently present. This “shared world” clearly has a wealth of story building behind it, and I would love to know more - however this book did little in showing it to me. Perhaps it becomes easier to understand in the next collection, I’ll have to pick it up sometime to see!

Overall I give this 4/5 stars; the stories worked very well on their own to grab my attention and fascinate me, and despite the comprehension issues I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
