I'm 13 Years Old And I Changed The World

Rate this book
Being a teenager is tough. Now it's even tougher. Big Mike has cancer, and I have to step in and do what science hasn’t yet done. I've got to find a cure.

That’s right—I'm 13 years old, and I'm about to change the world.

From the The follow-up to D.K. Brantley’s I’m 12 Years Old And I Saved The World, this book tackles the difficult topics of childhood cancer, death, and drug addiction. I’m 13 Years Old And I Changed The World is an open admission that bad things happen to good people. And while you often can’t fix the bad situation, you can make it better if you’re willing to be a friend.

We hope this book comforts those dealing with childhood cancer, death, and addiction and increases empathy for all.

I don't know how to post separately. Sorry.

I noticed that Adam is sincere with his friend, Mike. He visits Mike every day. He reads the comics Mike recommends. He wears the shirt Mike told him to that said “Big Mike!”. They’re like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It's going to taste plain and bland without each other.

The main theme of this book is caring and compassion. Towards the end of the book, the news of Mike getting cancer spread out, and everybody was shocked. Adam, the main character, visited Mike every day and cheered him up. The whole grade wore a shirt that said "Big Mike" while chanting Mike's name aloud during an assembly. Throughout this book, I felt care and compassion in every one of the characters. Adam, Mrs. Shannon (Adam’s mother), teachers, and classmates were all telling Mike that he can defeat cancer. They were all waiting for Mike to get better. Thus, Mike feels loved and moved by what Adam and others did for him. In conclusion, this book tells me that caring among others can provide a lot of emotional support during trying times.

I forgot to post the Goodreads last week. Something had gone wrong.
In I am 13 Years old and I Changed the World, Adam’s a warm boy. Adam's friend, Mike, was diagnosed with cancer. He visited Mike every day, so Mike doesn’t feel lonely. Mike likes having Adam around and things are always a little brighter when Adam’s beside him. When Adam detects that Mike gets sleepy and tired, he always goes out of Mike’s room quietly. All of Adam's actions show how he's a warm boy.

This book is that perfect mix of humor and heart. The former will keep kids laughing and turning pages, and the latter will sneak up on them and give them all the feels by the end. The author deals with a heavy subject with sensitivity and levity. He also donated some of the proceeds to charity... definitely check out the inspiration behind the book! Highly recommend!

I was asked by the author for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book and also his first book.

I was able to read this in about an hour and a half. Its a very quick read and my heart was on the edge the entire time. The love between the characters drives this story home. You can't help but root for Big Mike as he goes through his chemo treatments.

I'm giving this 5 stars for being a book that even though is small, it packs a powerful punch.
