There have been countless theories about how to survive a zombie outbreak. All of them based on impossibilities and conjecture, turned into fantasies and science fiction.
No one truly needed to prepare themselves, because no one believed it could ever really happen…

But now, Dave and Pam Richter are trapped in the impossible.

Forced to race against the spread of a rabid plague from a source no one suspected, and those ordered to contain and destroy it.

Playing dead has taken on a chilling new meaning.

R.K. Gleason was born in Grand Island, Nebraska in 196-something. He grew up, and spent most of his adult life living in Seattle. In late 1999, he met the love of his life, left his home in Seattle and moved to Ohio. Currently, R.K. lives in Columbus, Ohio with his best friend, and gorgeous wife, Petra. They have four children, currently two grandchildren, and ABSOLTELY no pets.

While R.K. grew up with a naturally vivid imagination, although his friends might argue some of it was self-induced, he seldom put his thoughts to paper. At the age of forty-eight, after the inspiration came to him in a dream, he began his first novel. On that day, The Truth Death and The Michele Shepard Series came to life.

I am legitimately impressed :D

In the world over-saturated with zombies (I'm talking about our world, not the one in the book), it can sometimes be difficult to find something within the genre that would feel fresh and make me want to read it. This book did it and made it look easy. The writing style is quite novel to me, the zombie threat is well executed, and most importantly (for me at least) the humor of the book exceeded my wildest hopes and made me laugh out loud on the street, and at work (reading an audiobook version).

The only thing I'm sad about is, that is was so short and I need to wait for the next piece of the story. Still....well worth waiting for :)

If you are tired of the same old zombie apoc story then this is the book for you! Soooooo much better! R.K. Gleason is a newer author for me but I am hooked. He has a way with dropping the F Bomb a lot, using a bunch of hilarious banter in a story, adding a ton of gore…AND IT WORKS!!!! And when I seen this book….well I dove in head first! What do you do when you get in an UPPERCASE situation? Well the world as we know it is going to hell in a handbasket. By chapter two I was laughing so hard at the banter between Dave and Pam. These are the two main characters and we get to know them pretty well at the beginning. They are a freaking riot! There is an outbreak and everyone is trying to get a grasp on what is going on. Dave decides they need to get the hell out of dodge and he and Pam start gathering their adult kids so that they can get out of the state before the military comes in and closes them off. We know how we all are these days with technology and how easily we can get swayed from the bigger picture. But the way Dave and Pam get everyone together just works. We get to follow them on their trek and the craziness that gets in their way. This does end in a cliffhanger but rest assured….there will be more!!!! I am anxiously awaiting the next in this series. UPPERCASE is a fast read that you will not put down. YOU NEED TO READ THIS NOW!!!!

This was so much fun! The humor was on point and I laughed out loud multiple times while listening to this. But that’s not to say that it doesn’t have more going for it... The storytelling was outstanding and engaging on top of the witty banter, and the narration (Jeffrey Kafer) was exceptional! This just really worked on so many levels. I can’t wait to listen to the next installment. Downloading it now!

Family road trip from HELL!

The first in a collection of novellas starts at the beginning of a viral outbreak in dogs. Suddenly fluffy, cuddly family pets are turning into crazed teeth gnashing, man eating monsters.
The story follows two storylines running alongside each other. On one side the government are desperately trying to contain the outbreak taking drastic action at whatever cost. On the other side, as the virus starts spreading to humans, Dave and Pam decide to make a run for it across the country collecting up family members along the way.
Great characters with relatable relationships, packed with humour and a splattering of violence. A action packed read that you won't be able to put down you might need to grab onto the oh s**t handles for this one!

1st it is an incomplete story. What I read was the beginning of a story and the plot stopped right when it was taking off.

2nd the dialogue was adequate, but it I did not like it felt like skipping over much of it

3rd Dave (main male character) calls his daughter to shoot her dogs b/c they may carry a disease. But when he picks up his stepwife's son, he lets the dogs come even though they are going to his daughters house. felt like this was included to build drama, but poorly done. If dave was forceful enough to have his daughter shoot her dogs, it was hard to imagine he would give in so easily to a dog riding in a car with them, especially after his son called about having to kill his dog b/c it attacked him and other things he has seen.

b/c of this other things I rated it 1 star

I finished this in one go. This book is amazing. If you ever want to know what an average will do during an apocalypse, this is the book for you. I felt like I could relate on so many levels. This is definitely my family if there ever is an apocalypse. This book is a great opening to the series. I laughed and jumped at so many parts and held by breath as I turned the next page. Wonderful job. I shall patiently wait for the next one!

I found this an interesting book.... A little out of the norm.... and one that makes you go hmmmm.
Dave and Pam are out and run into a very rude young lady.... they pretty much flip her off and move on with the tasks at hand...except when they get out into the parking lot they finds Miss Rude has been attacked by an animal... This event start the beginning of one crazy chain of event that has them running for their lives.

Great read. Not a situation I want to ever be in but with a family like they have, we might just figure it all out. I love the witty banter between the characters. RK always has me laughing even when there is blood involved. I highly suggest you pick up this book and give it a read. You won’t be disappointed.

My opinion of this novella is bias and the characters portrayed are close to my heart. In the event of canines bringing about the zombie apocalypse, I would absolutely do what was necessary to protect my family, complain about my little brothers and maintain my "favorite child" status. With that being said, I hope others enjoy reading about my family's reaction atrocity as much as I did.

I am normally not a zombie girl, but I really enjoyed this story. I like that the area this story takes place is close to home. I was able to feel like I was part of the story.

I’m usually a romance girl. It’s been my genre and go-to ever since I was a teen sneaking those “dirty” Harlequin romance books when my parents weren’t looking. Well sometimes, we need a break and a change from what we’re normally used to.

Besides romance books, I LOVE horror movies but I don’t usually read horror novels. I’ve read a few and have loved them but if you put a romance and a horror in front of me, I would probably always grab the romance.

Well I am glad that I gave this little story a chance!

Pam and Dave are hand’s down two of the best characters I have ever read. Their banter back and forth – they’ve been married for years – is hilarious. But while this little story is jam packed with humor, there’s also a serious side to it as well. I went into this story completely blind. I didn’t read the blurb ahead of time and I’m glad I decided to go that route!

This is book 1 to the F*cked Series and I already picked up book 2. I can’t wait to see what else happens to Pam, Dave and their kids while the world is…uh…dealing with the same unusual changes.

P.S. The texting scenes in this book had me dying. RK included the auto correct fails and it was beyond epic!

Uppercase (The F*cked Series, Book 1) by R. K. Gleason and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer is a f*ing fabulous zombie tale. My only complaint is I want another five hours of the story, like right now…

What’s it about? Pam and Dave have been living in their apartment for two years when the zombie apocalypse hits. They way it unfolds is unique and would hit close to home for many people (do not read my parental guidance/trigger warnings if you do not want spoilers). The story alternates between Pam/Dave and Major Carolyn Brooks perspectives. You get humor and action. If you are a zpoc fan, you need to listen to this asap.

The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, did a brilliant job. Hit the humor in all the right places.

Overall, I highly recommend this zompoc tale, there’s lots of potential for this to be expanded into something big.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: ***Do not read past this is you do not want spoilers***
Language used: swearing- lots of it. The virus spreads via animals, mainly dogs, and there is some violence against dogs. Yep, Fido is no longer your buddy...

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!

I read this book when it came out last year and adored it. I listened to the audio book and fell in love all over again. Kafer reads RK's work like a pro!
