The jukebox is playing Eddie Money and dawn is only an hour away, and Sean Maclin sees something he wants, even if it's just for the night. Relive one of the most memorable encounters from Heart of Malice (Alice Worth, Book 1) through Sean's eyes.
It's been a long workday for Sean, alpha werewolf and co-owner of a private security company. Rather than go home, he heads for Hawthorne's, a popular late-night bar catering to the city's night owls, looking for good music and a drink to unwind.
Someone else is headed to Hawthorne's tonight too after a long and eventful day: Alice Worth, mage private investigator, is hoping for an audience with the bar's vampire owner.
A chance meeting changes everything for a woman who lives in the shadows and a man who prowls the night by moonlight.
Just For One Night is a bonus story based on Heart of Malice (Alice Worth, Book 1).
Lisa Edmonds was born and raised in Kansas. She studied English and forensic criminology at Wichita State University. After acquiring her Bachelor’s degree, she considered a career in law enforcement as a behavioral analyst before earning a Master's from Wichita State and then a Ph.D. in English from Texas A&M University.
For ten years, she was an associate professor of English at a college in Texas, where she taught a variety of writing and literature courses.
Now a full-time author, she shares a cute little Victorian-style home called the Storybook House with her husband and their cats. She enjoys writing, reading, traveling, spoiling her niece and nephew, and singing karaoke.
To gain the most out of Just For One Night, you must read Heart of Malice first.
I would pay big bucks to know what was going through my hubby's mind when he first saw me. Was he struck by lightning with me exotic beauty? Was he mesmerised by the sway of my hips as I walked on by? Did he want to talk or jump my bones? Was it one night or forever that he was planning?
Obviously, he got forever and believe it or not he planned for forever from that first meeting. If only I could read minds....
Well, Lisa Edmonds has done me a favour. She's given Sean's thoughts (and his wolf's) on his first impressions of Alice. Besides lust, we see a connection start. Sean's protective alpha instincts rage to the forefront when he notices Alice's pain. He wants her and he hopes she will give him a chance to keep her.
But...they both have secrets.
This was a sexy little read that had me buzzing. It's extremely short but a great add on to Heart of Malice.
Sean's point-of-view shows how he sees Alice from the moment she enters the bar to their night together. I'd have liked to see him solving the problem, but the title is pretty clear, so I wasn't surprised. It would have worked fine if it were a part of the first book too. Overall, an okay little addition to the story.
3.25 stars. Really just a short story, not even a novella. It’s written from the point of view of Sean, the werewolf alpha boyfriend of this series and tells of his first meeting with Alice. Since I’ve already read Alice’s version in the first book, this wasn’t that interesting. Plus, it’s almost completely a sex scene. Not my favorite for a premise. I would have liked more story. I do enjoy the books in this series and I like the main characters a lot.
While I positively adored every other book in this series, this one was only just okay for me.
This is Alice and Sean's first encounter at Hawthorne's pub and their ensuing shared night, told from the latter's point of view. Though I did like the glimpses into Sean's alpha werewolf mind, I pretty much hated the insta-love. Sean Maclin lost quite a bit of his coolness in this novella: too much mush, to little growl.
A nice, steamy little addition to the series, but don't expect anything substantial.
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
It was okay I guess. It's just Sean and Alice's meeting and first night together but from Sean's point of view. It doesn't really add anything to the plot.
I always love to have the hero’s point of view and in Just for One Night, we get Sean’s. This is the night he meets Alice at Hawthorne’s and I loved all the protective alpha tendencies he felt, but had to hold back. If I didn’t know Sean was for Alice before, I definitely know it now. Loved this look into Sean’s thoughts because I love Sean!
This is a second POV (Sean’s) of Sean meeting Alice, while Alice’s take is given in Heart of Malice. Just for One Night offers more backstory on Sean pre-Alice, mostly about Dahlia’s (Sean’s beta’s mate) efforts to set Sean up with a girlfriend, but also a bit about Sean’s relationship with his business partner and with the guys who work for him. The heart of the story, though, is Sean’s first encounter with Alice.
To me, the best aspect of this story is the poignancy of Sean’s and his wolf’s feelings about Alice as they develop, along with the blend of desire, strength and protectiveness in which their relationship eventually takes root. There’s a lot of emotional nuance offered in a short span of time, and Sean moves very quickly from sexual attraction to the beginnings of love.
I also really liked the way Edmonton wrote Sean’s wolf’s dialogue. It felt much less human than animal, but communicated a lot in a few words/feelings. Many people seem to make the animal sides of their shifters speak in a way that’s too human and too wordy, but Edmonton does a great job with the inner dialogue here as well as offering a strong tender sex scene.
If you’ve read Lisa Edmonds exciting debut novel “Heart of Malice,” a new series featuring Mage Private Investigator Alice Worth, then you know that Edmonds lays the foundation for a magical love story between Alice Worth and Sean Maclin, an alpha werewolf who has his own security company. But with this bonus short story, Edmonds retells the story of Sean and Alice’s first encounter—only this time, from Sean’s perspective. Have you ever wondered how a modern alpha werewolf might select a mate? What does Sean first notice about Alice? How does an alpha woo a kick-ass, independent feminist? Edmonds’ eye for detail serves her well in this short story. I loved seeing the same events, only this time from Sean’s viewpoint!
I was ecstatic to learn this book was from Sean’s point of view!! That man is just manly sexiness *fans self* I usually lean towards Vampires BUT Sean is one hot alpha shifter!! There’s so much more to him and I really dig that. He’s smart and a good person. This short story had me wanting more! I give this 5 stars!
It really is a nice little story in Sean’s POV. I would have liked to see what happened when they were separated and she was harmed in the first book, but I appreciate seeing how his wolf works and all that.
I really enjoyed this novella from Sean’s POV of his first encounter with Alice: the insights into his mind and thought process, but also about werewolf society in general. I really liked how despite its shortness, it expanded the lore of this series.
Loved this short story told from Sean’s PoV on the night he met Alice in Book 1. I like his grumpy wolf lol I enjoyed reading his PoV along side Alice's in Book 1 and that is how I read it. Team Sean - I would love some more short stories from his PoV!
Covers all the sex scenes with Sean constantly praising how precious Alice is. This was good from Sean's perspective, but it didn't add details or quips AT ALL. Which ended up to me as a slap in the face for the lack of communication on how they ended in the first book. Stupidity is a poor plot device, always opt for misfortune instead. How can I enjoy this book, when Alice had a tantrum like a 5 year old and condemned Sean with information from just a single source. This kind of scepticism without proof is petty and childish, and if it was deliberately meant to be this way so she can be victimized and protected later, then I don't agree with this protagonist very much. This isn't a strong female protagonist, she's a pussy with a disguise waiting to be plundered. Which further demotes this book.

Heather's Notes I really liked seeing Sean thought. I would have loved to see a little more.
Just For One Night is a great short story stemming from Heart of Malice. It retells a pivotal part of the novel in the voice of a different character, and this allows us to understand his perspective on the main character of Alice Worth. This was a fun read, very sexy, and you'll get through it quickly. I won't spoil anything, but the main character in this will be a lot of fun to watch as the series goes on, particularly as he continues to complicate Alice's life in several ways. If you enjoyed Heart of Malice, grab this fun short story and dig in.
After reading Heart of Malice I HAD TO read this novel! There was no way I couldn’t not read it. Sean is just so much Yummy werewolf goodness; how could I not want to read about his meeting Alice from his perspective.
I loved this quick little story; I loved getting glimpses of his wolf. It was awesome. Lisa Edmonds, I am a FAN! Sean is just a Sexy, Hunky, werewolf, Alpha, stud! And I want one!
Of course, this is getting 5 Boundless stars, what else would I give it!
I love Alice Worth and with Sean's pov we get to see Alice through his eyes. She's beautiful to him. He saw the hardened warrior she was and he was hooked. I remember back when I read the first book, I wanted them to work out and I'm so glad he worked his way into her life. Also I suggest anyone just starting this series, wait about 5 books in before reading this little snippet. Not because of spoilers but because their relationship needed to grow before you find out how he felt back then. Thanks Lisa Edmonds for creating this series.
This book makes me want to pick up Heart of Malice, since this is the retelling of a pivotal part of that novel but from a different perspective (a different character). This is brilliant on the authors part, since it fills the holes and gives us what we were missing from the other book! (or at least what I think is missing - I have yet to read it🙂). It's a fun, sexy, quick read that you will absolutely enjoy reading in one sitting.
This was a quickie but very good! I was really excited by the world she built and the great characters. Supernatural/ Paranormal romances are my favorite. There is just so much there that could be built on or go further. Really enjoyed what the author has given us, just want more of the couple's romance and world! The narrator was new to me but did an excellent job bringing the story to life and giving voice and personality to the characters. Look forward to more by this author!
Utterly disappointing. This short didn’t cover any new ground. Sean’s feelings were already known. He explained his thoughts at the end of heart of malice to clear himself of manipulating Alice.
I would be disappointed either way but i’m even more annoyed that this was paid content. Many authors post short little blurbs like this on their websites for free to peak interest between books.
I don’t mind paying for decent content but this feels like a cheap cash grab by the author.
