For Sheriff Duke, the danger has reached the final countdown. Captured, tortured, beaten but undefeated, it's sixty seconds to midnight and the only way to save his wife and daughter is through the fugitive he left home to hunt. The real enemy isn't what they seem and the history of the forgotten Earth is about to be rewritten... But will any of it matter if there's no one left to read it?
Don't miss the thrilling conclusion to the Forgotten Earth series!
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

A really good end for a really nice series. Important plots and sub-plots open since the beginning of the series, and some even dating back to the Forgotten (Pilgrim) trilogy, finally came to an end. Still, there’s a lot more to tell about everything: Earth, Proxima, the Trust... the Others. With the Forgotten and Forgotten Earth behind me, I’m glad to know there’s a lot more to read in M.R. Forbes’ incredible Forgotten universe.
So it turns out not all the generation ships were headed to Proxima... did they find other planets infested by trife? or even other places in which the Others did in fact reach their mysterious goals? Then again, back on Earth, how will Sheriff Duke and Stacker cope with both old and new threats?
Sheriff Duke has been a favorite character of mine. The author has written him with such depth. Nathan and Hayden must put their differences aside to save Earth. Perhaps they are much more alike than either man is aware of. Excellent writing, plot, and series!
Great conclusion to the series. I love the way the ending leaves things open for more to happen in the universe, and yet it's a really satisfying conclusion.
Good book as usual. All of the subplots and hidden agendas are coming together and there is further development of the leading characters. I won’t go into great detail because it is better to let the story flow. I read the 4 books over several months but recalled much of the details in this volume. It ends with a potential new enemy and an old enemy. I’m looking forward to the next book.
I have enjoyed the story in both this series and the first one. I have also enjoyed the characters, I have not enjoyed the losses of support characters but they have for the most part been for a reason, still it's hard when you like a character to suddenly lose that character. Then there is the three, Duke, Nathan, and Natalia. At times I cheer them and then at other times I'm thinking what tunnel vision idiots, it is a love hate relationship but it works. I recommend the first series and this series for anyone wanting a post apocalypse wild west adventure with a dash of space and the cloud of armageddon.
I love this series of books, non stop roller-coaster ride from start to finish. I ready to start the next series of books. I have become emotionally invested with the main characters in this series, and can't wait to see how the following story lines intertwine with this one. The 5 star rating I believe is well deserved due to the continuing development of the storyline and the Gemmelesk morals of the lead players, which leave you rooting for them as they battle against huge odds. Just like the old westerns with a scify twist. If you enjoyed the David Gemmel books. Or the Culture novels by Ian M Banks this coil be up your street.
Halfway between an 8/10: Excellent read, well written, fell right into the fictional world created & a 9/10:Fantastic, left me wanting more.
“If any of those things land near my wife, I’ll find your fucking homeworld and I’ll do the same to you and yours.”
Ah, Sheriff Duke. I wasn’t too sure of him in the beginning, but he grew on me by the end.
A good, solid finish to this spin-off series in the Forgotten Universe. I’ve enjoyed these books, but prefer the ones onboard ships or in space. I’m hoping Forbes will do some more like War Eternal. ;)
Excellent series! This is the third series I have read out of the forgotten universe and all of them have been truly epic.
This book follows on from three previous three with Hayden Duke being tortured only to overcome it all and start kicking ass, again.
With more twists and turns than most books and the action to add, this book is brilliant! Hayden and Nathan finally get to Tinker and James and revelations are made. I don't want to spoil the book but you have to read it! Excellent conclusion to an excellent series!
This continuation of the series finds out favorite sheriff in a predicament that we, as readers haven't seen him in. His friends are all dying around him, he is captured, tortured within an inch of his life, his wife is captured again, and his daughter is threatened. This is where it gets interesting because he doesn't give up and amid all the bullets flying, he finds a way to rise above all the trouble around him. The characters are described accurately, action is intense and believable, and the outcome is a complete surprise.
Good ending to the series. Couple things drove me nuts as an audiobook listener. The expression "pozz." I hated hearing it. Made no sense and sounded stupid. The other thing was the names of the two main characters, Nathan and Hayden practically rhyme, and sound so similar that I frequently had trouble remembering which character was which and doing what. It was terrible. An author should not use names that sound so much the same as main characters.
A fantastic series following on from the previous trilogy. Great characters, fast paced action all the way, with some great twists and turns to keep you hooked. I would highly recommend this series along with any book from M.R. Forbes. Thanks for keeping me awake until the early hours even though I should be asleep!
Wow, just finished the series, and as a fan of great science fiction, I was not disappointed. Great characters, brutal action, and a unique story that is relentless in it’s pace. I cannot wait for another series in the unforgettable forgotten universe.
This is a truly great series. I’ve read many, MANY space opera series and this is one of the best. Action packed, great characters, creative plot, plausible technology, and entirely lacking of the repetitive space filler as in so many “series”. Thank you Mr. Forbes!
The heroes are well and truly behind the eight ball. Sheriff Duke is barely recognisable as human. The only person who can help him is Nathan Stacker, conflicted and paralysed by his inner turmoil.
Everything has gone to hell and when you think it can't get any worse, it does.
Much, much worse.
You won't be able to put this down. I read it in one sitting.
Excellent book, closed !many loose ends.but what comes next?
We have a conclusion to Tinkers plan. The East and West are rebuilding. But the spacers at Proxima still have their own plans for earth. What happens next? A satisfying read with a great hook to keep you interested in the next book!
This was the final book of the seven in the series. I feel I was really putting off finishing it because I didn’t want it to end! I’ve got to know the characters so well, it felt sad to part with them. Absolutely loved the books. Reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because sometimes it went too much into the fighting and combat. The detail was a lot and not needed. Apart from that, I loved them.
A great wrap up of this series and looking forward to Deliverance!!! This series just grabbed from the beginning Forgotten ! Grab it if you like adventures and syfy and kick ass good guys! 5stars
Awesome ending, or a new beginning? Anyway if you write them, I will read them. I like the Sheriff and Nathan. It would be neat to see how they fix up the joint, given the time and the tools to get rid of the Trife. Thanks for the GoodRead.
This series has continued to keep me at the edge of my seat, and unable to put this book down! It is well worth the read, and Forbes is really creating some ingenious work.
In many series, the narrative wanders farther and farther from the original thread, until you've lost the thing that you loved about it in the first place. That is NOT the case with this series (at least do far). Can't wait to start on the next book.
A true gem among sci-fi titles available on the Amazon. I loved the universe, realistic characters and the plot twists. It's the hard sci-fi I was looking for! Thank you!
Picked up the first one in the series on audible after seeing an Instagram advert thinking it looks like my sort of thing. It is probably the quickest I have ever got through 4 stories. One of the best sci-fi series I have ever read. 5 stars
Currently still reading early in book, but at this point Nathan freaken royally SUCKS. He needs to pull his head out of his ass, help Haydon, or it's going to be 1/16 star and that would be generous. OK works out in the end, so 4 stars.
I was hooked from the first book in the series. The story continues with exceptional story telling, excellent plot lines and over all kept me interested. I ended up binging 7 books over 2.5 weeks. I can't say enough great things about this series.
Of course Sheriff survived. At the end of this collection, I said… ok… now what. And there it was. Want to know more about Sheriff Hayden Duke? Well … yes… so on I go to the next book… after that I will keep on going to the next and the next? Yes I will
I have really enjoyed reading this series. I love the character development and the world M.R. Forbes has built. I am looking forward to the next installment.
