READ THIS IMMEDIATELY
This book broke me in the best possible way. Be warned, it does talk about some really triggering stuff, but I thought it was written very tastefully. This author is so talented! She somehow made this heartbreaking book lighthearted and humerus as well as interesting. I stayed up late every night because I didn’t want to stop reading. One of my all time favorite things in any genre of book is banter. Whether it’s with a love interest, friend, sibling, parent, etc. and Heather Blair definitely pulled that off. I loved every single character in this book and didn’t get bored at all! Quinn was SOOO well written. I love him so much! I definitely have a new book boyfriend!!

This was a painfully beautiful book. It was heartbreaking learning of Quinn’s past and all of the things he had been through. It was beautiful to watch their relationship grow and see her help him. They were exactly what the other one needed

Alison Waverly knows what she wants in life. After leaving high school and the hopes that she and her sweetheart, Logan, will get back together, she attends college at Grayson University where her father, Charles, is the chair of the Psychology Department. It is here that she meets her dad's new colleague, Quinn Kaneko. Quinn is different from anyone that Alison has ever met. He is a prodigy, able to master anything he puts his mind to. However, because of his odd habits and appearance, he isn't everyone's cup of tea. Alison, Charles, and Quinn develop a deep friendship and begin working on projects outside of school. After graduation, Alison begins working in publishing but still makes time to work with Quinn when she can. Two years pass this way until one-night anxiety over the outcome of a project, cold beers, and flirty banter make the two realize they have feelings for each other. Together, the two embark on a steamy relationship until Quinn reveals and faces the consequences of his dark past.
Heather Blair's unique characters and the relationships between them are what make this book one that you can't put down. Her characters are real and have their own voice. Alison is her own woman and damn anyone who gets in her way. Her empathy and strength is the key to saving Quinn, but she is also very aware of her shortcomings. Quinn, while odd, has a reason behind everything he does. He obsesses over things to the point of self-harm but is willing to do that to himself to save others who cannot save themselves. Even Logan, whom I wanted to hate, had relatable motivations behind his actions.
Where Blair's skill shines is writing the story from the perspectives of different characters. The reader gets to see how both Quinn and Alison experience different situations and how their differences impact how they perceive the world around them. This creates a realistic dynamic between the characters and adds tension to the story.
Overall, this was a book that I could not put down. Seriously, I couldn't go to sleep until I finished this book. I cannot wait until the next book to see where Alison and Quinn's relationship goes. I do want to offer a trigger warning to those that are sensitive to violence and exploitation of children as the plot does involve some covert ops to free children of this type of abuse.

This book brought me to Quinn Kaneko levels of obsession. I rarely read anything this fast, but holy heck I devoured this book.
I don't think the word "enrapture" is too strong a word for what this book dud to me. Every single word on the page screamed to be read. There was not even a single letter out of place and very few passages that gave me pause.
Every second I spent reading this book was rapturous. Heather Blair's prose is delectable!
I absolutely adore Alison and her family (with one obvious exception). It is so rare that I find a book with a well-written female character in a story with a predominantly romantic plot, but Alison is IT. She is strong-willed, she is smart, she is everything I want my female MCs to be. She gives as much as she gets and even a little more to Quinn and everyone around her, but she is by no means perfect. Her flaws are what make her so well-rounded and incredible.
The love scenes were otherworldly good. Blair definitely knows her way around well-written smut. I have not read a smutty book I've enjoyed the way I enjoyed Lucid Dreaming in years. The love scenes were exciting and full of description and care between the two characters.
God, I especially loved how Blair handled the break up between Alison and her first boyfriend, Logan without demonizing him. Sure, Logan has his moments where he isn't a great guy, but Blair never takes him too far. She never makes him abusive or shitty and she definitely doesn't kill him off. That meant the world to me.
Thank you, Heather Blair, for your astonishing novel, Lucid Dreaming. I cannot wait for the sequel.

I won this in a giveaway from the author.
And oh my actual hell I am so glad I did.
Okay… so a few thoughts I had while reading this book:
Quinn reminds me of Spencer Reid from Criminal minds. Which is amazing.
I did not expect that twist that essentially turned it into a Criminal Minds/Law and Order SVU episode, which was also amazing.
The book was so amazingly written. And that bet. That bet was amazing.
So to summarize… this book is amazing.
I don’t normally enjoy books that follow years and years of the characters lives. I usually find them jumpy and they never seem to run seamlessly. But this one completely did. I loved that even though it’s kind of a student/professor relationship, it’s main form of conflict isn’t the taboo-ness of their relationship. It was beautiful.
Allie and Quinn were so amazing together. Allie didn’t try to fix him. She recognized and accepted that he had his own issues and she didn’t try to force anything on him. That is an unbelievably important message to get across. Sometimes a person just needs support and that is exactly what she provided for him.
This was so sweet and romantic and heartbreaking and wonderful and infuriating and… yeah, let’s just say I have feelings.
I absolutely cannot wait to read Heather’s next book. This was a fantastic debut and she is definitely someone you should keep your eye on!

I have spent an inordinate amount of time lately delving into the romance genre and finding things I liked and didn’t like within all of it. Through this interesting adventure, I managed to come across this book, “Lucid Dreaming” and this is one of those books that completely changes how you view an entire genre.
Blair writes this story as more than just a romance. It is raw. It is real. It’s painful to read but also completely satisfying at the same time. Her mature style of writing captivates you deep into the lives of these characters and the world she has created for them within New York City. The main characters in this story are Alison, the daughter of an Ivy League professor, and Quinn, a unique prodigy-minded character that most people would easily overlook and not think much about. The story begins with Alison being fresh into college and spans over 6 years. We watch her develop from a budding college freshman, into a strong-will woman who challenges the world around her.
Through the time covered in this book, we follow Alison, her father Charles and Quinn who is also a professor alongside Alison’s father. They develop a deep friendship that overtime turns into love for Alison and Quinn. But Quinn constantly keeps her at a distance, afraid that he will hurt her with his past and the secrets that he holds. Their relationship develops deeper and they are eventually faced with a decision, does he tell her his dark past and risk losing her forever, or do they give up on the love they have found so that they can protect themselves?
I would certainly classify this is a romantic suspense novel as there is a noticeable underlying tragedy that forces Quinn, Alison’s love interest, to keep her at bay and not entirely let her in. You see in the synopsis that Quinn is an enigma; no one seems to understand him, but most tolerate him just fine as he is a harmless professor that just so happens to love wearing no shoes and pajama pants as part of his staple wardrobe.
As the romance really kicks into high gear and their feelings are becoming more intense, Quinn forces Alison away because he is afraid of her knowing who he really is. But as the mystery unravels between Alison and Quinn, they find that their love for each other is far stronger than either of them ever believed possible.
This is an important novel for our time and will be relevant to a whole lot of people. We all have a past, some of us with deeper, darker secrets that haunt us and have created the person we are today. Quinn has a past that no one he cares about really understands and this is what has made him such a quirky, but lovable, character. The passion between him and Alison, the way Blair writes about it, you feel like you are actually there in that room with them. I will warn readers though, that there should be some trigger warnings on this novel as it includes material related to child sexual exploitation and could be an issue for some readers that are sensitive to this.
In summary, I found this novel to be unique in its characterization of romance. Taking your standard romance novel of explicit love making and emotional turmoil, to one of sheer substance where we see the true human nature develop and morph into a lasting relationship that is built on trust and appreciation.

I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of this book. I'm not really one to read romance/erotica, but this was a rare exception and it was delightful. The relationship between Alison and Quinn was truly adorable yet complex. They had great chemistry and really cared for one another. This book has equal parts humor, excitement and intrigue. The writing style was also very nice and not at all lackluster. Great debut novel from a potential best selling romance author that could really go places.

The book started good with descriptive enough, in detail, way of presenting the main characters Alison and Quinn and introduction into the story, as well good describing of situations so you could really see what was going on. Descriptions are maybe the high point of this book and it's author on the contrary to some other newer books which have badder descriptions. The plot is revolving around one girl which is the least smart in the family of more intelligent members and that bugs her, but she is holding her own and fights through life as best as she can. She is not greedy and is satisfied with little things and average fun, until she goes to the University and starts a new life with her old best friend. Many new events at the student campus and dorm are fun and interesting to her, going to classes and so on, until she meets one guy who captures her attention completely because he is an enigma to her.
There are many funny, moments like when one girl criticizes her friend about wrong behavior or when former boyfriend does something after long time of separation, and after both of them were in another relationships. And it was uniquely hilarious when Quinn had to tell Charles, Alison's dad, that he is interested in his daughter. It's good how you can see characters grow up becoming more mature, some faster and others slower, and the conflicts that arise from all that. There is important lesson told through characters interactions, that intelligence doesn't mean necessarily mature state of mind, but can be quite opposite and that's one of the important problems today in the world.
Somewhere in the book, along the way, story changes significantly and goes downhill, because it started happy and romantic and then all of a sudden with to much passion that follows. The relationship of two people which is described in the book should have gone more romantic way or at the very least begin with romance and then continue to passion. The reason for this is already given in the story, the relationship which is more emotional, where partners are connected deeply and into each other can't start with passion. Passion is needed for every complete and adult relationship, but it's not enough, emotions are more important. Every relationship that is all about passion, or mostly, is bound to fail. Although the story has unexpected but positive ending it's somehow sad, because of the route it took to the end. Because of the path they took, the value of the relationship was diminished.

Sooooo this is erotica. I had no idea, but that's on me. I could've done a little more research.
But there's some good bits of dialouge in this book. I was also surprised by how dark it got and the disparity between the romance and the super dark bits wasn't really my cup of tea. But, overall, it's a decent read. The characters are vibrant and, again, the dialouge is a highlight. I especially found the title drop was a beautiful moment.
Overall, it's a good erotica if you're looking for a more serious take on the genre with a non-traditional male lead.
Also Quinn needs a bed frame. This is a non-negotiable lollll

This book was absolutely amazing! The story of Quinn and Alison was so beautiful. Alison was finding her way through college and the after years finding a strange relationship with Quinn, a very strange man with a sordid last that he did not like to discuss. Their relationship was so particular on the way that normal meets quirky. Heather Blair did an exceptional job of portraying each character in this story that you could picture each personality and mannerism of each person. The scenes were set so beautifully in my mind that I thought I was watching everything happen right in front of me. She is an amazing author and I look forward to reading more of her books including the sequel, Wide Awake. I highly recommend this book and author!

I really enjoyed this story. Heather Blair is a new author for me, but she definitely captivated me with her writing style. The book is easy to read, the words just flow from the page. All the characters are well developed and likable. I absolutely love Alison, she is such a kind, emphatic and vibrant woman. Quinn is a genius with a troubled past and a tormented soul. He has a lot of quirks and while everybody else considers him odd, Alison sees him as fascinating. They make such a great couple. She never judges Quinn for his personality and accepts him for whom he is from the beginning. I liked seeing how their relationship evolved from student-teacher to lovers. Also, I found extremely heartwarming the way Quinn and Charles ( Allie's father) formed a strong friendship. The plot was well written, it kept me engaged in the story. I didn't want it to end. I recommend this book wholeheartedly! Looking forward to the sequel.

Lucid Dreaming is an adult romance following a college graduate and her oddball lover. The central relationship is well written and poignant, involving a difficult and sensitive issue that is well handled. The narrative is sexually explicit on multiple occasions leading to the sense that I was reading an unfolding relationship study perhaps more than a story. Personally, I would have liked a little more plot, though If you love adult romance you'll enjoy this due to the wonderful character of Quinn.

Unusual but good
If asked specifically I don’t know what reason I would give for really liking this book. It’s a combination of such a normal female lead which is unlike most romances, and the man himself. He makes the different seem plausible and her attraction understandable. There are unpleasant topics in this but they are dealt with carefully, and with basic details only because it is the relationship that takes centre stage, not sensationalising a painful subject. It’s not hard to guess the connection between the topic and our fragile hero but the emphasis is on understanding what makes people what they are, and also reinforcing that evil does exist and we need to fight it.
This was a very good read by a new author. I am surprised a second book is planned as I think this finished perfectly. Some editing issues but mostly well-written wth a good flow, and I look forward to what comes next as long as our duo stay together.😌

I dived right into these books without really knowing what they were about. Let me tell you....there are some STEAMY pages in these books🙈 The love story of Alison and Quinn is so sweet and endearing that I was instantly caught up in their story. I absolutely loved that they became friends before they became a couple. Throughout the story, I really appreciate that Alison keeps her own life and friends rather than abandoning them for Quinn. He is a very complicated character and I could easily see where it would be tempting to have Alison completely abandon her previous life. I love that they so completely appreciate each other’s qualities and faults. They do not take each other for granted. They have to overcome some major obstacles in their journey and I like that they choose to work on their relationship knowing the hurdles that will come their way. Difficulties in life do not scare them off or away from each other.
I must say that I really enjoyed the writing style of Heather Blair. The story effortlessly takes you where she wants you to go. I really felt engaged in the story as opposed to an outsider looking in!

Lucid Dreaming, by Heather Blair, captured my interest from the first sentence and kept it all the way to a satisfying end. The characters were so real, it was as if I was living their story alongside them. A complex, sensual plot, a relatable main character, a loyal best friend, a close father-daughter relationship, and a lover with dark secrets, all make this an excellent, engaging novel. I’m looking forward to the sequel and to more from this author.

This was off the beaten path for me, but I found myself completely engaged in the story. Although the subject matter was tough. There was so much odd, quirkiness to the characters that I couldn't help but root for Quinn.
Don't ever assume you know or have a book figured out by its genre. You will miss out on a pleasant surprise, and incredible writing.
I will be there for book two.

This was so amazing!! The writing style was great (though it took me a while to get used to it), the story was gut wrenching but amazing and the characters….incredible. I loved Quinn so much. The angst wasn’t so overwhelming like I feel can often be the case in books, it was just perfect for me. I constantly wanted to continue reading and pick it up again. I can’t wait to read the next book!

This book was fantastic! The only reason why I read it in 2 sittings was because I ran out of time. The author pulls you in with great characters, excellent changes of perspective between those characters and unique shifts from 3rd to 1st person point of views.
