This book has one of the best depictions about hostel life. This is my second time reading this novel and I remember really loving it.(Still loving it after 3 years though). Before reading this, I had no idea how it is to be living in a hostel. I didn't even know there'd be that many hostels in Yangon(since I don't live there).
The book is about a group of women living in a certain hostel. It mainly centers around 2 girls and their lives but other side characters are pretty interesting too. The author can really show the lives of the working class girls and their struggles and hopes, families and loves, and attachments and friendships they form while living in the hostel. There are also 2 main romances in here and I like them both! Both show love can either cause happiness or just tragedy and pain.
One of the side characters I really like is Khin Thitsar(ခင်သစ္စာ). I love how she stays positive and happy although has quite the big load on her shoulders to support her family.
All in all, really love this book. It really opened my eyes on hostel life and since then, I've taken interest in random hostel ads that I see at the bus stops. And wonder about the people living in them and struggling to stay afloat in this modern tide.
