Book 1 - Alan Cleverden Thriller Series 'A dangerous heist and unscrupulous an art thriller is born!' Thomas Waugh It’s all in the art of deception… When Alan Cleverden is left a number of paintings in his grandfather`s will, he is uncertain whether they are originals or well-produced copies. But an unscrupulous trader in works of art knows their true worth; and exploits the situation, involving Cleverden in his shady activities. A major heist is planned by the trader, which first necessitates the theft of many of Turner`s paintings. These are held to ransom in exchange for priceless artifacts displayed in the British Museum. Once again, Alan Cleverden is unwittingly swept up in this unlawful venture. One word to the authorities, he would most certainly serve time. A pawn in a highly-charged affair, the odds are against him as he tries to free himself from the trader`s clutches; ensure the safety of the Turners; and return to their original owners the paintings acquired by his grandfather during the Second World War. I studied History of Art, and lectured at the Central School of Art and Design in London. However, marketing was my main occupation; and in this role I have worked for a number of German, American and British companies.

Latterly, I joined the family trade development company, working principally with government departments of foreign countries. To relieve the tedium of long -haul flights and the four walls of rooms in impersonal hotels, I turned to writing.

Over time, the number of manuscripts grew, and were stored in the metaphorical
bottom drawer. The number reached the point where, in exasperation, my wife
declared I should either attempt to get them published, or she would. In fact, she
did submit the first novel; and, to date, 12 novels of mine have been published.

When it comes to art, art history, and a thriller, this book has it all. I loved the characters especially Roger. His characters were amazing and I learned so many techniques in case I want to take on a disguise.

The story unfolded in such a wonderful pace and gave me an insiders knowledge of these old pieces of art. I loved the commentary portion of the broadcast, it was vividly told and I felt like I was part of the filming crew.

I hope there are other books by Patrick Gooch but I hope to read more of his work. I really enjoyed every aspect of this thriller.

A good read although the style is a bit dated, very upper middle class prospective

Up school and all that, seems like it was written in the 40s pre ww2
Never the less still enjoyed it!

A very good read

Although I know nothing about art I found this read was a good story with enough twists and turns to keep me intrigued

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it very entertaining. Loving all things British and all things Art and not too concerned about realism, I immensely enjoyed the ride!
