TOXIC GAME by Christine Feehan is the fifteenth book in the Ghostwalker series. While it can be read as a standalone novel, the reader experience will be enhanced if these are read in order. The story line takes place in the Indonesian jungle and in Louisiana. This is a paranormal romantic suspense novel.

Dr. Draden Freeman and his GhostWalker team are on a rescue mission in the jungles of Indonesia. When he gets infected by a virus released by a terrorist group, he forces his team to leave him behind to avoid spreading the virus. Meanwhile Shylah Cosmo is on a mission to track the creators of the virus and remain unseen. When Draden gets hit by a lucky shot from one of the terrorists, Shylah helps him and becomes exposed to the virus herself.

The story hooked me from the beginning. Draden and Shylah are compelling characters that the reader can root for. They felt three-dimensional and gained depth as the story progressed. The internal and external conflicts were well defined and arose out of characterization and circumstance rather than feeling contrived or forced. The stakes and tension were high enough to make this a page turner.

While this novel had plenty of action, it was much more than that. While this is a paranormal romantic suspense story, there were no instant steamy scenes. They did not occur until about 75% through the book. Instead, the story line built up to those scenes in a way that fit the characters' circumstances. The novel also tackles several themes including hemorrhagic viruses, biological terrorism, greed, power plays, romance, and much more.

Overall, the author did a great job of worldbuilding. The writing was absorbing, compelling, and compulsively readable. The plot was suspenseful, appealing, thought-provoking and perfectly-paced. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I love this series ❤️
Usually, once it published I binge immediately.
But I kind of reluctant to start this one when I realised where this story location happened.
You see, many authors love to write bad stuff of places or people which they don’t familiar with, well Hollywood love that stuff too! 🤨

However, I can see Ms. Feehan worked very hard with her research department to give us as accurate as possible how to portray the locals life and what the part of this Island looks like. Especially the way she wrote about the weather, it was really hot and true! LOL.

I also almost thought Shayla part Indonesian too by how she wrote her character, LOL! She sound like West Sumatran girl who are matrilineal people where the women, NOT men who in charge in running their clans or family! And the family’s name pass on from mother’s instead of father’s.
So, well done for your research for this book Ms Feehan ❤️

I can’t wait for the next book, can we get Joe’s story please? 😘

❤️❤️❤️

It was all about the mission...and survival. Toxic Game is book 15 in Christine Feehan outstanding series, Ghostwalkers. Dr. Draden Freeman and soldier/assassin Shylah/Peony Cosmos take center stage as the latest and top-notch GW pair. Draden is infected with an ebola-like, fatal virus while on a mission with his team to shut down a terrorist group in Indonesia. The terror group is brutal and used the fatal virus, concocted by three rogue scientists previously on Dr. Whitney's payroll, to wipe out an entire village. Now these rogue scientist are trying to create a biochemical weapon for an even more sinister reason.

Shylah/Peony Cosmos was sent by Whitney to eliminate the three rogue scientist when her and Draden's paths cross. Shylah follows the lone Ghostwalker as he systematically takes out members of the MSS terror team. When Drayden is injured and falls into a river, Shylah rescues him and gives him mouth to mouth resuscitation...and possibly becoming infected by the fatal virus. From this point on, these two remarkable and highly skilled people pair up as virtual killing team as they take out the terror and race to locate the three scientist who are now on the run.

Draden and Shylah are a fantastic team who work wonderfully together to find a solutions to near impossible odds and along the way they find their way towards each other. Their work and personal relationship just blossoms slowly yet with such depth and soul-melding that they were an inspiration. I was rooting for Trap, Wyatt, and Joe to find a cure for the virus because I was rooting for Draden and Peony to have their much deserved HEA. Shylah has some very interesting gifts that makes her a true warrior like Cayenne and Bellisia. Draden just bent over backwards to ensure Shylah's happiness and survival.

It was also lovely to be reunited with the beloved members of team four, especially with Nonny, Zara, Cayenne, Pepper and the adorable little girls, Ginger, Thym, and Cannell. Malachai just cracks me up and I can't wait to see if he finds that "yes" woman he plans to advertise for. Oh, and readers are introduced to a couple new members of the team four family. Toxic Game is exciting and a wonderful story of love, intrigue, action, and family...all ingredients for a story I want to read over and over again!

2nd read didn't hit me as strongly as the first time.

1st read:

Latest installment in the GhostWalker series — two GhostWalkers, Draden and Shylah, stuck in enemy territory and both of them infected with a lethal virus. How to get out of that impossible situation without succumbing to a horrible death?

The GhostWalkers are soldiers whose DNAs have been altered, making them stronger, faster—absolutely lethal. The mad scientist, Whitney, who made them that way (without their consent) is hell-bent on using them, supposedly for the good of the country and he sees them as weapons instead of human beings. (Yeah, you can’t rationalize crazy.) He has no qualms about manipulating them to get what he wants. (I really, really hope he gets his comeuppance soon.) Despite his machiavellic machinations, the GhostWalkers rallied together and the set up a code to live by.

When Draden got infected during his latest mission, he did the right thing, the honorable thing — a scene that was poignant with the impact of his decision and in doing so, he condemned himself to a vicious death. He was resigned to dying alone, resigned to how horrific his last moments would be—or so he thought.

On her own mission, Shaylah broke cover for Draden and inadvertently exposed herself to the virus. I liked her a lot—her thoughts, her insights, her ideals and the values she had. Her tenacity not to become what Whitney wanted. She was admirable and a strong heroine.

Neither of them expected to find the other. How cruel was it to find the one person who fit you so perfectly just when your days were numbered? I enjoyed watching their love blossom and how they coped with the fact they would both die.

The writing was excellent. All the descriptions done so well, it was easy to imagine the world of the jungle and the scenes. Also, it was evident from knowledge ingrained in the story that there was in-depth research done on viruses by the author. I was also very happy to see the mention of some of my favorite GhostWalkers in this story.

I love how Christine Feehan keeps coming up with all these fantastic plot-lines with a special story for each GhostWalker, linking the couples to the rest of the GhostWalkers as a close-knit community of people who look out for each other. Each individual story adds value to the main story from the first book. I really, really want a special story for Joe, Malichai and Mordichai. Those two just crack me up. I can’t wait to see what else Christine Feehan will come up with next with the GhostWalkers.

Dr. Draden Freeman is on a mission to stop a terrorist group when he is infected with a deadly weaponized virus. Knowing there is little chance of survival, Draden decides to take out the terrorist camp. While he is taking out the terrorist camp he gains the notice of someone else on a mission, Shylah (Peonies).

Shylah was sent to take out the doctors that are creating biological weapons when she discovers what has to be one of Whitney’s Ghostwalkers. She is drawn by him and his beauty as he slaughters his way undetected through the terrorist camp. Well, mostly undetected, until an alarm is raised and Draden is injured. Shylah has to decide whether to keep to her mission or rescue Draden. She choice is rescue and inadvertently exposing herself to the biological weapon.

I enjoyed Draden and Shylah story. I loved how Draden went out of his way to do everything he could to make Shylah happy. I did wish there was more of reunion between Shylah and her “sisters” and less repetition on certain plot points. Great urban fantasy read and even though I've enjoy all of Feehan's series, .Ghost Walkers has become my favorite in her works.

Toxic Game is a great love story. In a time is the essence scenario, there is little relationship development but the commitment comes across as real and genuine.

I received this ARC copy of TOXIC GAME from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review. TOXIC GAME is set for publication March 12, 2019.

Fifteenth in the GhostWalker paranormal romantic suspense series and revolving around the Louisiana team of GhostWalkers. The couple focus is on Dr Draden Freeman and Shylah Cosmos struggling to survive in Sumatra, Indonesia.

My Take
I loved that start, lol. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the too-competent spec ops type *more laughter*, especially when they make such an impression.
"The Air Force pararescue team didn't seem affected by anything as mundane as the heat or terrorists. The crazy thing was, they were mostly officers. Doctors. ... These men had seen combat and looked as tough as nails. ... giving off a dangerous vibe..."
This is one of Feehan's better stories (after that string of jokes she's done!), but I do have three niggles: the repetitiveness was so annoying; that weird paragraph about Draden and dragons that wasn't inserted very well; and, I do wish Feehan had been more explicit about the GhostWalkers' belief that Whitney had engineered the whole thing. I was confused. When I'm reading, I don't want to have to stop and try to puzzle out what the author is saying.

Feehan uses a third person dual point-of-view from the perspectives of Draden and Shylah, which is the primary source of all the repetition...oy... I know I like it when an author reminds us of events, issues, and pertinent details from past stories in a series, but there is such a thing as OVERkill.

I do love that these two are partners, equal partners. And that while they accept their fates, they don't stop fighting. And...sigh...Draden is such a romantic...more sighing... That special event...even more sighing...

I also love the supportiveness and love this extended family has for each other. It's what keeps me coming back.

And I am definitely trying out some version of that shrimp dish Shylah is so excited about at the end!

The Story
A terrorist group destroyed a Sumatran village using a deadly new virus. The WHO staff are among the dead. Indonesian special ops soldiers are also among them. Their only hope is the GhostWalkers.

Now, Draden's only hope is that he can save a bullet for himself. And one for his new-met partner, Shylah Cosmos.

And Calvin believes the GhostWalkers are a joke...

The Characters
Peony "Shylah" Cosmos is an assassin for Dr Whitney with excellent tracking skills. She'd been sold to him by her parents. She still misses her "sisters": Belissia and Zara.

Dr Draden "Sandman" Freeman is a gifted surgeon who paid his way through medical school — gaining degrees in genetics, infectious disease, microbiology, and immunology — by being a sought-after model. Eliza had been his foster mother. The one who bought him from his drug-addled mother, raised him with laughter, and taught him about flowers, love, family.

These GhostWalkers are...
...an Air Force pararescue Team Four out of Louisiana overseen by Major General Tennessee Milton. Dr Joe Spangnola is the team leader, a psychic healer and surgeon. Malachai Fortunes is their fact man. Dr Gino Mazza (he's married to Dr Zara Hightower, Covert Game , 14). Diego and Rubin Campo are brothers, whom I think showed up in Power Game , 13. Dr Trap Dawkins has a super-high IQ, is fabulously wealthy, and has Asperger's with no clue about social cues — and he's married to Cayenne, who has tremendous spider powers and cannot cook to save anyone’s life. Dr Wyatt Fontenot is married to Pepper who's pregnant with twins, and they already have a set of triplets(!), the little viper chicklets: Ginger, Cannelle, and Thym ( Viper Game , 11). Grace "Nonny" Fontenot is Wyatt's fabulous grandmother, offering the team a home. "Gator" Fontenot, one of Wyatt's brothers, and Iris "Flame" Johnson met up in Night Game , 3. Dr Ezekiel “Zeke” Fortunes, Malachai's brother, is married to Belisia, ( Power Game , 13).

Azami Yoshiie is married to Sam Johnson, a GhostWalker from Team One ( Samurai Game , 10) and managed to move a satellite for the guys.

Dr Whitney is...
...a brilliant crackpot and psychopath who has been experimenting on human beings, enhancing their strengths and psychic abilities, and splicing in animal genetics. Helena was the housemother who most cared for the girls. Violet Smythe is a GhostWalker who went very bad.

Three virologists had worked for Whitney: Tyler and Cameron Williams, brothers, and Agus Orucov were hired to create special viruses. WHO is the World Health Organization. Dr Henderson wants them burned. Barry Font is the terrified helicopter pilot.

Indonesia
The Kopassus is the government special forces branch. Bakti is a minor league scam artist who is way out of his depth. Eko is part of his team. Faisal Bataknese does a nice trade in false IDs.

The Milisi Separatis Sumatra (MSS) is...
...a terrorist group in who murdered the village of Lupa Suku in Indonesia. Intan Lesmono is the man who replaced the last commander.

Ethan Montgomery, a former schoolmate of the Wiliams brothers, is a playboy layabout always getting in trouble who is based in Mississippi. Calvin Montgomery is Ethan's loving, vicious father, and a member of the World Alliance. The stupid Candace is Ethan's stepmother.

The World Alliance is...
...a super-secret organization that rules the world. Cheng is an extremely wealthy paranoid sociopath with a sideline in selling secrets and allies in the terrorist world ( Power Game ). And is he ever pissed about his brother's death.

Greg is a flight attendant on Trap's plane. Daryl Monroe is Trap's assistant. Draden reckons Trap is one of the few in the army with his own private army of assistants, lol.

The Cover and Title
The cover is distressed in browns with the graphic a'slant and the head and shoulders of a dark-haired, dark-eyed Dr Draden Freeman, with the scruff of a beard in a black T-shirt. The background is a helicopter in a sky pouring with rain, with a triskhelion-style image in a deeper brown. At the top is an info blurb in white. The author's name is in a greenish-gold outlined copper across Draden's head. The title is in a bright yellow with bright green splotches at the bottom of the cover below Draden's neck. Below that is the series information, the black font outlined in a blurry white.

The title refers to the Toxic Game, as Draden and Shylah race to eliminate the terrorists and recover the virus.

This is how I dream a relationship should be - direct brutal honesty and humor. Save me from a romance where the drama comes from misunderstandings between the main characters. I always want to knock some sense into those characters. Draden and Shylah I want to be friends with and found myself laughing out loud at their story.

P.S. So much deep research made the virus storyline believable too.

When faced with your own mortality, even if you knew your life would bring it sooner than later, and the sooner happens when you meet the one who made life worth living…what would you do? Christine Feehan does an amazing job showing us how Draden Freeman and Shylah Cosmos deal with this.
This book from the first chapter had me by the heart and my emotions invested in the outcome. From heart-pounding to heart- stopping and every “heart” phrase you can think of this book covers it all. Nothing to lose has these characters open to feelings and sharing life events they would normally hide. Communication is key and recognizing the things, no matter how small, that hold importance is key to knowing each other. They’re open to love, to accepting what they mean to each other, what others in their lives mean to them, and realize they mean something to those they have come to consider family. Also determined to save anyone else from their fate, they hunt down the enemy while the GhostWalker pararescue Team fight to save them and vast populations in a science fiction plot woven with true science plausibility that had me on edge.
Primary and secondary protagonists you love, hope for. Wonderfully written scenes that show how friendship can be as strong as family bonds. And it can be found in the worst of life circumstances.
Dr Whitney, the main narcissistic misogynistic antagonist's actions had me fuming and oh loving to hate him. Along with more Antagonists surfacing, drawing ire towards them making me hope that the GhostWalkers will deal out karma and save the day.

Christine Feehan is one of my all-time favorite authors. Her recent books have been some of my favorites, but TOXIC GAME didn’t work for me. This is the 15th book in the GhostWalkers series, but the third book in what has been a mini series arc following one of the GhostWalker teams. GhostWalkers are men and women with enhanced genes to make them better, stronger, faster, smarter than regular people.

Shylah and Draden meet tracking a deadly hemorrhaging virus along the same lines as Ebola. While following the virus, they both become infected and only have days to live while they’re kept in isolation in the jungle. Now, if you’ve read CF’s books before, you know that she can make almost anything sexy. Unfortunately, she couldn’t make two characters dying from an awful disease in a swampy jungle sexy. Nothing about rashes and illness speaks of romance to me, and since this was the slowest burn Feehan novel I’ve ever read, I have to think it wasn’t sexy for Shylah or Draden either.

Ms. Feehan was quoted saying this was her most romantic novel ever, and I would have to agree in some ways. The connection and laughter between the main characters kept me from giving this book a lower rating. Shylah was fun and funny which matched Draden’s personality. He was actually pretty darn chill for a Feehan alpha hero.

The worst part about this book, besides the gross disease, was that I was bored! I can honestly say a Christine Feehan novel has never bored me before TOXIC GAME. Not much happens in the middle of this book. Shylah and Draden basically sat around sick and they talked a lot. It helped their connection but not the plot. I just think the whole premise was missing something. You don’t even really need to read this for the overarching plot GhostWalker plot. Nothing happens in that regard either.

Overall, I am still one of Ms. Feehan’s biggest fans, and I will absolutely continue reading every book she releases. TOXIC GAME just missed the mark.

*May Contain Spoilers*

I have no clue how I missed on reading this book to be honest since for the most part, I have come to adore this series "Ghostwalkers" I have been following this series from the very beginning with Shadow Game so I adore the suspense/military plots that this author implements in her stories here. This series has really grown so much and I really enjoyed the "disease" element that is introduced in this book. It really had true Feehan classic elements that every Feehan fan will adore seeing.
We were going to live free for a few days, a week or two, for whatever time we had. This is my choice. You are my choice. Don't take that away from me

Our main characters of the story are:

-Dr. Draden Freeman -a Ghostwalker and a Doctor,

-Shylah Cosmos -captive of Whitney, excellent tracker and special abilities connected to felines and spiders

The sets off with Dr Draden Freeman, who is on his way to Indonesia to help save a group of Rangers and other American Military men who are grounded and surrounded by the MSS military group. After he and his team get the wounded on choppers, he ends up getting shot with a deadly virus and returns back to ground zero so no one has a chance of being infected. Knowing he has up to 2 -20 days before he is dead, he plans on taking out as many members of MSS as he possibly can. But then he is rescued by Shylah, a fellow Ghostwalker and together they fight off the MSS and search to discover an antidote to the disease they both now carry and a newfound love in each other...
If tomorrow never comes, today has been all i've ever wanted or needed. You are my life. And you will after I've taken my last breath

I truly LOVED Toxic Game so much, this book was so so good and boy it tore through my emotions. There were so many great things about this story but first we have this whole "gonna die" element to the story. I love seeing characters overcome unbeatable odds and boy these two do it. But both are such strong characters and are survivors. They have a sense of loyalty and family. Draden is committed to his team and what they have gone through together. Shylah has been hidden away by Whitney, and has close ties with her two sisters whom she thinks is dead. As Draden and Shylah work together, a deep romantic bond forms between them. Their relationship was so sensual and strong. I love what they build together and the obstacles they overcome together.  There is such a strong level of emotion that is conveyed in this story. I was so hooked on their connection, it was so vibrant and relatable.
He pulled her into his arms and kissed her like she was his and had been for years. Like he was a man dying and she was his greatest love. He felt like she was. Shylah Cosmos. His only little peony. His delicate flower. Dependable. Long-lived. She'd tied her fate to his.

Overall I found Toxic Game to be a stunning addition to a superb series that is packed with intense packed suspense, strong sensuality and a story to keep you on your toes from beginning to end.....INDESCRIBLY FANTASTIC

This new novel in the GhostWalkers series was high-octane danger and heart-melting romance! Once again this group of extraordinary men and women – smart, strong and incredibly gifted - banded together to protect their own…

Draden and Shylah met under the most intense, stressful, dangerous circumstances. How they handled themselves with such composure and grit is a testament to their harsh upbringing and life history. Instead of folding under the pressure of an uncertain future, they just kept doing what needed to be done. And found love along the way…

I kept wondering how that could be possible. How could they think about anything but the death knell they were under. Physically weakening, mentally tested, they were still able to laugh and think about what could be. How they accomplished that was as unique as they were themselves. Living under a death notice was nothing new to Shylah and Draden also never expected a lot out of life for himself. I loved how they were with each other, their discussions and dialogue had me smiling through my own worry about how things would play out.

If I had one negative about this author’s recent work is how explanations and detailed were repeated unnecessarily. I did not find that here at all. Instead, the story flowed at a steady and heart-pounding pace with the perfect balance of action and romance, with a healthy jolt of paranormal as always…

While Draden and Shylah’s story came to a satisfying ending there is more to come and I can’t wait for the whole team to get together again! ~Diane, 5 stars

For some reason I couldn’t remember Draden as a Ghostwalker, but it really didn’t matter, it was still fun to read this one. While Draden is an alpha, he wasn’t so over the top like a few of the last books were. Draden ended up in a horrible spot at the start, knew things were so very bad for him, but didn’t let that stop him from doing what needed to be done. I loved how in the course of taking care of business he ran across Shylah. It fun to see how much Shylah admired Draden’s skills, she basically sat back and followed his path of destruction, staying out of his way until he needed help.

From there things got interesting. Of course they knew they each were Ghostwalkers, knew that they were paired up and the big one, both were on a time clock. I liked how the two of them got to know each other, didn’t jump into having sex, but genuinely learned the important parts of the others life. That was super important as they decided that they would get married, because why not when they were dying. The wedding was great! I loved how Draden found so many important things to the Shylah, how he made the day special and found a way for their friends and family to see the wedding.

But I think the best part was at the end, when everyone worked together to take care of business, get rid of the bad guys, then go home to Nonnie’s house where everyone was gathering for the new babies that were to come.

This was Dr. Draden Freeman and Shylah Cosmos/Peony story. I enjoyed the story especially since the author toned down the sex a lot! So there was more attention on working together, finishing the mission and finding a cure to the deadly virus that the evil genius Dr Whitney’s cronies developed.

I’ve been disgusted with Peter Whitney for this entire series but it finally occurred to me that this man is incredibly astute. It’s crazy how advanced his plots are and how he is always thinking 3 steps ahead even though it’s for evil purposes. I hope the author writes a book that includes his POV because I’m truly curious of what is going on in Whitney’s head.

This book had a lot of action. It just felt too formulaic and liked I’ve read this before in this series.

Toxic Game
Ghostwalkers series book #15
Release Date: March 12, 2019
Review Copy Provided by the Publisher

I broke one of my book rules. I NEVER start a series in the middle. I have to start at the very beginning. Well, the synopsis of this book really intrigued me, and after much consideration, and a few night sweats, I started this series at book 15. Book 15! But in all honesty, the author did a great job not making the reader feel they’re missing bits and pieces of the series and past characters. That doesn’t mean I’ll ever do this again. I’m just too set in my ways. But I do feel like I deserve a cookie for stepping out of my comfort zone!

I have this morbid fascination with killer viruses. I mean, I don’t want ever want to be in the middle of a Hot Zone, but the way it attacks the body just leaves me gobsmacked and amazed. I’m weird that way. So, I figured this would be a great book...a killer virus and a sexy romance story! See, I told you I was kinda morbid.

Anyways, this book was totally doing it for me. It was fascinating, thrilling, and the characters were really likeable. While this book has a huge romantic suspense storyline going, it’s also paranormal. The hero and heroine have DNA traits of animals. They both possess some of the strengths and the agility of cats. The heroine also shares some DNA with spiders. Shudders. However, it was kinda cool that she could shoot spiderwebs like Spider-Man!

I liked these two together. They were both strong and smart. They had great ideas, and knew what needed to be done to survive. Oh! I forgot to mention...they’re both infected with a hemorrhagic virus. But somehow in between feeling like complete crap, and the very real possibility of dying, they fall head over ass in love. I’m still on board at this point. Even when they profess their undying love within 24 hours of meeting, I’m still holding on. But here’s where my eye to started to twitch. The hero wants to give the heroine this beautiful exotic wedding since they’re both going to start bleeding from every opening of their bodies any day now. Did I mention that they’re in the middle of an Indonesian rainforest? But that doesn’t stop them. Their team flies in all the supplies needed for a Hollywood wedding. And a meal prepared fresh by Gordon Ramsey. Well, maybe not Gordon Ramsey, but some superstar chef. So let’s recap a bit. Both are dying of a horrendous virus, they’re in the middle of a rainforest, they fall in love, they plan and have a wedding straight out of Modern Bride magazine. All in about 48 hours.

It’s funny how they both have animal DNA, and fall for each other in the same amount of time it would take me to paint my kitchen, and that doesn’t bother me! I’m all like, cool, I can see that. I don’t read romance for the realism. But that crazy ass wedding? That was what threw me over the edge. Even I couldn’t believe that, and I’ve read hundreds of unbelievable romance tropes.

All in all, I enjoyed this book. The writing was great, and I was certainly interested, but the wedding could have waited until the rashes from the virus disappeared. I’m not sure I’ll read anymore of this series. Maybe it’s just a little too out there for me. I’m certainly a Christine Feehan fan! I really like her Torpedo Ink series.

I wonderful addition to this fun series even after 14 previous novels! Christine Feehan is still able to provide a unique experience with the couples that we meet in the Ghostwalker series. Readers familiar with this series have met Draden in previous novels, as he's a member of the team settling in the Louisiana Bayou that we've been following for the past few novels, but Draden's background is not something that had been previously shared. We're in a similar boat with Shylah, the previous two novels "Power Game" and "Covert Game" involved the two women closest to Shylah, so we've heard about her previously.

I loved that this story had such a twist right when this couple meets. Draden has been injected with a HIGHLY contagious disease and is in the midst of taking revenge on the terrorist cell that did it. Shylah has been on the trail of the developers of said disease and is impressed while observing Draden work. What she doesn't know when she decides to rescue him from drowning is that he's infected. Now, they must hold up together and watch as the disease ravages through them. Neither expected to have such an instantaneous connection to each other. This developing relationship while in the cusp of dying, grows fast as they try to fit in all the experiences they won't get to have over a long life together.

Just a wonderful book that I've read twice already! Loved everything about it. I received this novel as an ARC from Netgalley.

Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors and Toxic Game is one of the many reason's I read all of her series and haven't been disappointed.. This GhostWalkers installment is no exception. The author has done many hours of research on Ebola like viruses and it really shows in this book. I had to keep saying to myself, she wouldn't kill of these characters, would she??? I love the connection between Shylah and Draden. The way their romance blooms slowly is a beautiful love story. Both of these characters are contaminated with an Ebola like virus and believe they are dying. While the GhostWalker team feverishly works to find an antidote, Draden and Shylah continue with their mission. They really get to know and respect one another as the novel unfolds. This is a wonderful love story and the reason why Ms. Feehan will continue to be one of the best romance/suspense writers.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this enjoyable novel!

Romantic Read!

I enjoyed reading Draden, and Shylah's story, and hated for it to end. We had action, suspense, intrigue, new villains revealed, and updates on some of the other GW characters. Darden was a very romantic leading man, and Shylah's perfect for him.

Draden, and Shylah's romance was beautiful considering the pressure they were under to find an antidote to save themselves, and others. This couple understood that life can be short, and bared their souls to each other. No game playing. A beautiful, and refreshing courtship, and a true meeting of the minds before the bodies. We had the ultimate HEA!

My Joe's suffering, and is getting colder, and colder. I hope he gets an HEA soon.

REVIEW: 4.25 stars--TOXIC GAME is the fifteenth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult GHOSTWALKERS erotic, paranormal, romance series focusing an elite group of ‘genetically enhanced’ men and women known as the GhostWalkers (GW). These ‘super soldiers’ were once part of an unauthorized government experiment performed by Dr. Peter Whitney. This is former model, GhostWalker and doctor Draden Freeman, and tracker Shylah ‘Peony’ Cosmos’ story line. TOXIC GAME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

WARNING: COVERT GAME contains scenes of graphic violence that may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Shylah and Draden) TOXIC GAME follows the building relationship between GhostWalker Dr. Draden Freeman, and GW tracker Shylah ‘Peony’ Cosmos. Dr.Draden Freeman is a member of the GhostWalkers Team Four Pararescue Unit, and their latest assignment finds the team in Indonesia to investigate the mass deaths possibly related to a man-made virus, a biological weapon, that if not contained could destroy the world. Infected and on his own, Draden will meet female GhostWalker Shylah Cosmos, who exposes herself to the virus in order to save our hero’s life. Shylah has been sent to Indonesia to track down and kill the men responsible for releasing the virus, a position ordered by the man in charge. What ensues is the building relationship between Draden and Shylah, as Team Four works overtime to find a cure in order to save their friend and fellow warrior.

The relationship between Draden and Shylah is one of immediate attraction. Draden recognizes, early on, that Shylah is the female ‘developed’ especially for him, something Dr. Whitney has purposely formulated in an effort to produce powerful offspring and heirs. Unlike many of the previous story lines, the relationship and power distribution between our leading couple is based on romance, attraction, and equality, without the male lead going all alpha and forcing the female to bend to his will. The $ex scenes, although limited due to the nature of the story line premise, are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

The world building continues to focus on the camaraderie, friendship and bond between the GhostWalkers, and the women they love. Dr. Peter Whitney, although ultimately responsible for the GhostWalker’s enhanced powers, and the torture of so many psychic females, his role in the series may be changing direction.

Most of GhostWalker Team Four (and their significant others) play secondary and supporting characters: Diego Campo, Ezekiel Fortunes, Gino Mazza, Team leader Joe Spagnola, Malichai and Mordichai Fortunes, Trap Dawkins, Rubin Campo and Wyatt Fontenot, along with a cameo appearance by Wyatt’s Nonny Grace Fontenont. Most of the female characters have been segregated from potential infection.

TOXIC GAME is a story of betrayal, power, revenge and control. The suspense is limited as the conflict focuses on the fight to find a cure for the man-made virus. The premise is intriguing and engaging as the author includes plenty of medical and biological references; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are colorful, charismatic and sassy. There are some issues of redundancy especially as it pertains to Draden’s appearance (mentioned numerous times), and saying that, I am a bit of a cover snob, and thusly, the cover doesn’t remotely give credit to the character’s beauty quoted as ‘jaw-droppingly handsome without being so beautiful he bordered on femnine’.

Wow! I loved this Ghostwalker installment. I do believe it is my favorite so far. There was no reluctant lover, long belaboring destined-mate, no secrets….just a romance that bloomed in hellish circumstances. They are both soldiers not only hardened by life, but infected with a horrific disease – despite that, or because of it, they bared their souls, stayed honest and left all games behind. I loved how Ms. Feehan blended the tender romance with the dangerous action….flawless. Draden and Shylah spent most of their time alone, yet the Ghostwalkers were with them enough to show the camaraderie and friendship that I have grown to love. Keep the tissues handy and sit back for a lovely ride. I truly hated to see it end.

Their mission is to save a group pinned down by terrorists. Her mission to kill the men responsible for a lethal virus. A man who stays behind because he's infected and about to die. A chance meeting between people who were meant to be together. They must work together to find a lethal virus, the men who made it and the people behind a Toxic Game.

Dr. Draden Freeman is staying behind after the Ghostwalkers mission in Indonesia after being infected with a lethal virus. He vows to take out as many of the terrorists responsible before he dies along with burning a village that was infected and killed by the terrorists. Shyla Cosmos is tracking the men who made the virus and formerly worked for the doctor who made her and the Ghostwalkers' DNA what it is. She's always known she would die one day. When she watches Draden kill many terrorists she realizes she's in the presence of a Ghostwalker. Draden leaps right over her when he is fleeing from the terrorists. A jump into the river and Shyla must save him after his escape. When he comes to and realizes that she gave him CPR and that she's infected now also he debates on whether to kill her or not. Their attraction comes into play along with Shyla's reaction to being infected with the virus. They begin to work together along with his brother Ghostwalkers to find a cure to save her life. As Shyla and Draden spend time together they become closer and fall deeply in love with each other. She realizes that her best friends/sisters that she was raised and imprisoned with have become apart of Draden's squad of Ghostwalkers. They show the others that they're a couple. Advice is given and spouses and family are taken to safety when they figure out that the virus was meant for them. A secret about a spouse is revealed. A call to the diabolical doctor who made them frees Shyla and exposes Draden to blackmail. Shyla and Draden reveal their pasts. They go on a couple of missions to kill more of the terrorists. A spy is revealed when the terrorists get thru the ring of Indonesian soldiers guarding them. Draden and Shyla decide to marry because they're so in love they don't want to spend the remainder of their lives together no matter how long it is together. Hope is given when they find out they're fighting the virus and that Shyla's immune system seems to protect her from illness. Shyla and the Ghostwalkers follow a lead to find the 3 men responsible for the virus. A honeymoon trip home after its found out they are immune to the virus. They go after a friend of the virus makers and reveal a secret group rich, insane men who run the world and want the cure and virus for themselves. An old enemy want revenge. The men they've been looking for show up near the Ghostwalkers home in Louisiana. Shyla runs the mission and takes control of the situation. Babies are born. Shyla settles into her new home. Everyone talks of family and the future.

Christine Feehan takes you on a ride of danger, love, passion, and bringing together two people who were literally made for each other. A brush with death brings their lives into perspective and that they can't waste time. With the clock ticking they must try to find and stop a deadly virus that can devastate the whole world. I can't wait for the next Ghostwalker book and to find out who will be the next one to find their perfect match. A Toxic Game brings to light an enemy they didn't know they had. Will they win the Toxic Game the enemy is playing. Read this wonderful book to find out.

I began reading the Ghostwalker books when the series first began but drifted away and forgot about them until recently. So, I was delighted when offered the opportunity to review this book. It gave me a chance to see if the books were truly stand-alones while I caught up with the wonderful characters I remembered. It ended up being a mixed batch.

First, while this book could be considered a stand-alone, there are so many characters referenced that it is very obvious much of the story has taken place before this book. It doesn't slow down or make this story any less but it may leave a first-time reader a bit frustrated.

The entire idea of the Ghostwalkers, their tight camaraderie and love for each other, their extreme and incredibly interesting backgrounds, PLUS the amazing writing skills of this author, are all in abundance here! That is the very best part of this story!

The not-so-great parts? Foremost is my personal aversion to reading a book where the entire plot is overshadowed by the protagonists ultimate death. In this installment Draden and Shyla have been infected with a horrific virus that has a 100% fatality rate. SO... no matter how fabulous the love that is growing between them, the death elephant in the room is always present - and dark and large and talked about constantly. I knew the synopsis going in but hoped that thread could be resolved in some way sooner in the book so it would take off like the others. Nope. It is the whole of the book.

There really isn't much suspense in this book either, which surprised me. I remember this series being full of heart-pounding action while those hot-love matches grew. Hopefully this is just a fluke but it was actually kind of slow. There was a LOT of repetition in the writing, especially in the protagonists thoughts. Good grief, we get it! If not the first time, at least the second. Assuredly before the tenth!

SO... overall? Fun to catch up and enjoy the gang again. A little let down it didn't grab me enough to want to rush out and get the rest of what I missed.

WOW WHAT A RIDE!! Fans asked Christine Feehan for more action, more storytelling and less sex scenes and she gave us what we wanted. Toxic Game is a page turner, full of Romance and we do get some very hot, sexy, sex scenes toward the end. But the storyline is amazing and the world building and characters are so believable. A few times I was on the edge of my set.

Dr. Draden Freeman has been shot with a dart exposing him to a deadly fast acting virus. The virus has already killed a whole village of Indonesians. Draden feels the sting of the dart and knows he must was drop from the ladder held down for him by his GW team in the helicopter. He can't risk exposing them and the world to this deadly virus. But before he dies he is determined to take down as many of the MSS terrorist group responsible for unleashing this deadly virus.

Shylah Cosmos/Peony has been since to the jungle by "Guess Who" Dr. Peter Whitney to track down and kill 3 rogue scientist that worked for him. These scientist have created this new deadly virus.

Shyla sees Draden killing off and entire camp of MSS terrorist when he is shot and falls in the river. She knows by how fast and accurate he is that he is a GhostWalker. She jumps in the river and saves him. Not knowing she has infected herself with the deadly virus.

Draden and Shyla are perfect together. They come up with a plan to destroy as many of the MSS terrorist as possible and to track and kill the 3 scantiest. There bonding and communication combined with respect for each other turned into a burning love.

Oh I loved the Wedding Scene. I also, loved revisiting old characters Nonny, and the triplets, Thym, Ginger and Cannel.

Toxic Game was a Great Exciting GW Romance and I am going to start listen to it on audible this time. One read was not enough. I have to go back and see what I missed reading it the first time. That's how good it is.

Dr. Draden Freeman and his scientifically enhanced GhostWalker team rescue a wounded military force attacked by Indonesian terrorists who have also released a deadly hemorrhagic virus, think Ebola, on a rural village killing everyone in a ghastly way. When about to be extracted, Draden is infected so he stays behind to keep from contaminating his team. Shylah Cosmos is a supersoldier like Draden, genetically altered by the same mad scientist, Dr. Whitney, who developed the GhostWalkers. She was sent to track down the three scientist developers of this virus and take them out for that is what Shylah does: she is an elite assassin.

After helping Draden out of a bad situation, Shylah is exposed to the deadly virus as well. As the GhostWalker team and government work around the clock to find a vaccine and cure for them, Draden and Shylah become quickly enamored realizing they are the perfect partners for several reasons, some having to do with their modified genetics. Shylah is unusual being that she is an empath and assassin; those two skills would seem opposite for a generally cold-blooded killer. Draden’s rough start in life has led him to keep his emotions tightly bound even with his GhostWalker family. Neither one of them ever expected to find a deep and true relationship or everlasting love.

Because their time together may be very short, everything about Shylah and Draden’s relationship happens in hyper drive. Minutes and hours count because the virus is very fast acting in a gruesome and painful way. While cocooned in the Sumatran jungle, they continue taking out the terrorists and accessing information about the virus inventors who are still on the loose. This story is quite intense; it has high drama and suspense with the underpinning of a love story. TOXIC GAME is number 15 in the GhostWalkers series, but can be read as a standalone.

Toxic Game by Christine Feehan
Release date 03/12/2018
Review by SKO

Dr. Dradan Freeman at 6’2’’ with his dark brown hair and piercing dark blue eyes looked like a model, not a soldier who was being dropped into a hot zone in Indonesia for one of the most dangerous assignments. However he is a Ghost Walker, and GhostWalkers are courageous, honorable and protectors. Dr. Dradan Freeman soon finds that he is the one in need of protection, and rescue.

Shylah Cosmos has been tracking 3 very dangerous virologists when she came upon a very dangerous ruthless man as he was eliminating the separatist’s guards. Her first thought was he must be a GhostWalker. When Dradan was shot, Shylah did everything she could to save him, not knowing that her Samaritan act of kindness put her life in danger.

When the team finds out that Dradan and Shylah lives are on the line they stop at nothing to ensure they come back alive. As always Christine Feehan brings us a book full of action, adventure, intrigue, romance, and family. Ghost Walkers think of each other as family, and family takes care of one another.

Toxic Game is book 15 in the Ghost Walker series, and by far now my favorite book. What to live longer, read a book. Until next time happy reading!
