My life has been a series of ups and downs. Downside: I lost my right arm just below he elbow when I was six years old due to a car accident. Upside: It made my usefulness to my parents nonexistent and therefore they didn't treat me the way they treated my twin brother. Downside: Not many people in the circle my family spent all its time in wanted to be friends with someone like me. Upside: My brother would burn the world down to make me happy, and I had plenty of time to pursue my love of cooking and baking. Downside: My mother tells me nobody wants to be served by, or eat anything made by an arm that looks like mine. Upside: My brother loses it on her and moves us to Purdy, Nebraska with a food truck where I can bake and sell my food. Upside: I've finally found friends that actually like me for me, and aren't put-off by my missing limb or extreme lack of confidence. Downside: I'm kidnapped by men who want to sell me to other men for my baby-making abilities. Upside: I have no doubt I'll be rescued soon. Downside: The man that rescues me is the most gorgeous, intelligent, considerate, sweet being in the world, and I think I'm falling hard for him. But how can a man so perfect want a mate that isn't whole? Who isn't "mate material?" Will I ever get back to a point in my life where I feel like someone who is worth being a mate?
Kinsey Walt
When a man is given a gift, he is thankful. And when I see my beautiful mate for the first time, I'm the happiest I've ever been in my entire life. This perfect creature was gifted to me, and I'll fight for him, no matter what. I'll fight sex traffickers, his brother and even him and his insecurities to hold on the one that belongs to me. When I take my mate back to his new home so that his new family can see that I haven't kidnapped the man myself, the dangers we knew were a possibility, become a reality, and I'm hurt. Seeing my mate scared and crying makes me question whether or not I can put him through something that is more often than not a possibility in my line of work, and I decide to accept a job offer from the place my brothers and sister work on an island in the Caribbean. Almost immediately, I regret not discussing it with my mate first, especially when it becomes clear that he is distancing himself from me before I get a chance to leave him behind. But how could he possibly think I would or even could run off and leave my precious boy?
Warning: Mpreg elements!
Also, my books have little to no angst, and lots and lots of fluff! They are better read in order, because I kind of write them like a continuation of a story, and I don't like to repeat explanations over and over if I can help it. No cheating, because that makes my heart hurt, and I try to avoid things that make me sad like I SHOULD be avoiding carbs. Sorry, I just don't want anyone being disappointed if they like the angst filled heart-rippers. These read more like a romantic comedy than a romantic drama.
Unsurprisingly, Bentley and Kinsey proved to be my personal favourite Chosen couple of the series thus far.
Opening with Bentley being rescued from his captors (who whisked him away from the safety and protection of the leap in the final chapters of the previous book), turned out to be a bit easy and not as exciting an endeavour as I hoped it would be, but the heroic and protective figure struck by wolf-shifter and FBI agent Kinsey was enough to set a very nice tone for the story indeed.
I love a decent hurt-comfort theme in my M/M stories and this one hit the spot. In the last book Bentley proved the ever shy and insecurely sweet young man, missing half his arm from a childhood trauma, but it was no surprise that his fated mate Kinsey was going to love him wholeheartedly exactly the way he was. I especially enjoyed those first few scenes in the hotel room, where Kinsey was nursing Bentley’s recently acquired wounds so very tenderly. *swoon*
I also enjoyed, for the first time in the series, that Kinsey was a wolf-shifter, which is something a bit different to the regular gang of leopard shifters (plus one sexy fox) that the series has been filled with to this point. Call me a traditionalist, but I love me a wolf shifter!
As per usual, the humour was still on point, especially in terms of the silly and OTT antics that seem to best unfold whenever the larger cast of characters are in a room together. I do believe Bennett (from book two) will forever hold the title of funniest character, as he never fails to make me laugh out loud with the ridiculous and inappropriate things he says around the newcomers. Humour, for me, is definitely one of the strengths of this series and boy do I appreciate it.
Once again, the final chapters were a bit random and left the reader hanging, but at this point I’ve come to expect such, as this is clearly more a run-on story, one straight after another, than a set of standalone reads within a series. I’m good with it.
Love this one a lot... will say that the one annoyance with this series is that the author did not have a good editor or whomever was supposed to catch misspelling, etc. In most of these books the mistakes have not been frequent enough to piss me off. In this one they were. My rating is for story and character development, my rating for spelling would be a 2!
This was a sweet one. I was looking forward to Bentley's book. He deserved to have someone love him and take care of him. I was a little perturbed that the author had Kinsey He didn't need that to love or want Bentley in my opinion but oh well.
I get that this series uses the endearments as the title and are used a lot by the shifter MC, but somehow ‘Precious Boy’ really grated on my nerves. If Kinsley called Bentley that one more time I would have screamed.
This one felt just as rushed as the last one. I wonder if the author just wanted to get them over with or something.
This was definitely my fave of the series. It seemed a little more serious, and by that I mean it had some depth. The author proudly claims her books are meant to be fluffy, but I appreciated the deep self esteem issues addressed in this book. There were still editing issues, but they seem to be getting better, or I just expect them now!?😕
I'm pretty much addicted and invested in this series at this point. Bentley is a sweetie, but I could have done without Kins calling him "precious boy" every time he referred to him. I did like the way this book dealt with the insecurities and doubts Bentley had, due to his missing limb. He was very endearing. I need to jump into the next book, I waited too long between the last and this and I got a little lost about what was happening with the storyline!
Bentley and Kinsey are perfect for each other. Bentley breaks my heart because of what he's been through with his arm but what's more traumatic is how people treat him because of his. His mom being the worst. But meeting Kinsey is exactly what he needs. Due to miscommunication, Bentley believes that Kinsey is another person who will let him down. The story is a sweet, heartbreaking one, but satisfying in the end!
To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit. My old 3* is now a 3,5* and clicked with a 4*):
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King, 'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but not really an often reread book
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
As with all the books in this series, I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I’d been anticipating Kinsey finding his mate, & I was pleasantly surprised that Bentley was his destiny. The two of them are so sweet! I adore the way Kinsey talks to Bentley, it’s almost old-world style. On a side note, having Bennett & Davis make an appearance was sublime! I love Davis & Bennett is insane😁! Having the two of them in one place makes it crazily entertaining. Davis makes me laugh until my stomach hurts! It’s so easy to love him😁. This M/M romance hits all the points for me: the main characters are both so deserving of love & acceptance, you can’t help but be happy for them. The surrounding characters are wonderful people, that make you wish they were real & that they were your actual friends. I find that some shifter or paranormal stories, describe their characters as paranormal, but then never allow that part of them to be expressed. JD Light always lets her shifters shift & gives the human mate the chance to touch & experience their animal counterpart. I really like that & I truly love this series💗
Because it is a 72 page book, and the author chose to have one of her main characters be referred to as nothing but "precious boy" throughout the entirety of such a short book. What is the point of giving him an actual, real name if it NEVER gets used? Am I over reacting ? 51 times in 72 pages. That is how many times "precious" is repeated. I mean - it's the title of the book, so OF COURSE he must be referred to as only "precious boy" with "precious arms" and all sort of "precious" attributes, in case we forget the name of the book. I get it, it's her shtick, her hook, her trademark, her own original way of making her books unique. But no, actually it's just super annoying.
As far as the plot goes - there isn't one. Yeah the conflict is spread through all the books in the series, but because it's done that way, one single book has no depth, no real substance. Basically the series is a bit of a waste . Glad it was KU and I didn't spend actual money on it.
Physical form does not make one precious. That comes from the heart.
I can't believe how great this series is! I am in love with all the characters. Reading this book was like coming home. All my old friends are here. The intrigue continues. There are surprises, acceptance, hidden strength. You will love this book as much as I did. Bentley doesn't expect to be kidnapped. He also doesn't expect his savior to be his mate. FBI agent Kinsey knows Bentley is his. Rescuing him brings his wolf to the front, clamoring for Kinsey to claim his mate. These two men realize that missing limbs do not the man make, and that they are precious to each other. After a misunderstanding, Bentley will understand that Kinsey will do anything to keep him safe and happy. I recommend reading the first 7 books. The story is continuous, so read them in order. You will be glad you did. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
Great story and loved the mc’s, although calling a grown man precious boy so much was kind off putting. I deducted a star because I’m tired of the tease of mpreg. I mean this is book 8 and still no babies. Also this book just kind of stopped. There was nothing about how their lives ended up. Just a small issue that was fixed in two paragraphs and then you turn the page and it’s the end. I like how fast the books come out, but kind of wish the author would take more time and end them properly, even adding on epilogues and making sure that it had nothing to do with the next book. Because the last chapter of each book is to help set up the next story. Don’t get me wrong. I love this series and I love this author. Just being a tad bit picky, because I want to see how each relationship deals with their mpreg. 🤗
Why I gave this 5-stars... 1) Either the proofreading is improving or I am being brainwashed as I read this series! *grin* 2) This "fluffy" story wasn't just fluff... it had heart and soul! Well done! 3) I had a feeling that Kens "knew" from personal experience the everyday challenges that Bentley faced and I love it when I am proven correct! ;p 4) The "family" vibes in these books just keep getting better and for me... family is everything! 5) We met Harley, and like Bentley and Kinsey... I wanted to adopt him! LOL!!!
Although this story left me with an unanswered question, I am looking forward to getting the answer in the next book (please don't leave me wondering) and seeing how Harley manages to woo his mate... when he finds him! ;p
Bentley believes he is the damaged twin, the one no one wants. Kinsey is a shifter who thinks Bentley hangs the moon.
Fated mates, instalove. I love that all of these are super quick reads at about 100 ish pages each. There is an underlying plot of human trafficking but in alot of the books its still simmering in the background, so you only get mentions of the ongoing investigation.
My only beef with this series so far is that there are so many characters at times I have to stop and think "Okay, who is this again?" But that's just what happens when you have a longer series like this with many, many MCs.
First of all I'd like to say that I absolutely love the headings, or titles of every chapter. They're done beautifully and very creatively. I was really looking forward to reading Bentley's story. He's super thoughtful and the twin of Marlowe from the previous story. What I enjoyed most was when the leap and the chosen mates were having dinner together. It was hilarious, and fated mates are the best part of these fantasy romances. Excellent book and waiting for the next. The writing is awesome. =)
In this one Bentley since he was 6 has been told that he is less, unworthy because he lost his lower right forearm in an accident. Now he's been kidnapped! Kinsey has worked for the FBI shifter division for many years and he realises his mate is one of the chosen kidnapped by traffickers. After being told he's not mate material Bentley is insecure when his gorgeous hero tries to convince him, hes his. Through patience Bentley accepts that he is loved. Good book quick and sweet.
Again, Wow! I absolutely love how J.D. Light incorporates so many diverse characters - age, ethnicity, physical disabilities.. It's so refreshing to read a book with characters that a person can relate to on so many levels. I love sweet Bentley and his strong, Kinsey and I adore Harley. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for him in the next book. Loved this book!
This is a shifter/paranormal suspense romance series, the eight book in the series and it has to be read in order! Accidentally kidnapped, the MC must deal with meeting his mate in the rescue. Will he be able to accept his unwholesome status? Seriously go back to book one to start this series as they literally read like one continuous story.
Bentley is too adorable and I absolutely love how he comes out of his shyness around Kins & leap! Bentley and Kins have been through so much in there lives, they deserve every bit of the happiness they got! I love meeting Harley in this book & now I’m off to read his story!! Can’t wait! ❤️❤️😀😀
This series books are short sweet and low angst. Each book follows the same storyline with different couples. I got a really good laugh out of this book. Can't wait to read book 9.
Want something quick that is sweet and romantic, and not filled with drama and pain! Then this is a perfect pick. These characters are fun and the story entertaining. Definitely recommend.
Ok this one was cute but seemed short and also...the nickname was getting a bit annoying. How many times in a sentence can you say or call something or someone precious?
