Starlight is the first poetry book by Tamara Basic. There are several positive things to say about this book. First of all, the author writes well and is honest, with sometimes a touch of naïveté, in her poetry.
The poetic theme of the book is centred about the eternal triad of Love, Separation and Longing. The Search, the almost desperate need for the absolute requited romantic love, and the fear of the pain that indeed Love causes are the the trait d'union that run through the poetic storyline. There are also, clever little dialogues, comments and short fragments of a story every few poems. These cursives connect the poems pretty well and I did enjoy the choice and the style of these short interludes very much.
I found the style of the author and the openness, the genuineness of the poems, endearing indeed, and I even have somehow experienced a series of Proustian moments where my mind flew back to the faraway times of my youth with the early romances and heartaches.
Personally, I think this book will be enjoyed the most by young readers, whose experiences will be more easily reflected in the feeling and style of the poems, but there are gems that will be loved even by more mature readers, men and women alike. The author has obviously talent and I will be looking forward to read her future poetic efforts.
