This is an alternative cover edition of the Kindle version, ASIN B01BT7NGYO.

Adrian Maddox fled his royal life—and tragic past—in Sector One, choosing instead to join up with the O’Kanes. For years, he’s lived by one rule: love fast, love hard, and always be willing to walk away. He’s managed to guard his heart, keep it whole and untouched—until now.

They couldn’t be more different—Dylan, the brilliant, burned-out doctor from Eden who drowns his pain with drugs and self-destruction. Scarlet, the sensuous, sexy rocker from Three, a woman unafraid to embrace the world. And Jade, the whore turned spy from Sector Two, who battled addiction and came out stronger than anyone he’s ever met.

Separately, they make Mad long to open his heart, to tumble head-first into a sea of possibilities and wild love. Together, they make him burn, inside and out, with lust and unbearable, unimaginable pleasure.

Then one fateful moment shakes their world to its foundations—and leaves the sectors on the verge of all-out war with Eden. It’s the biggest fight the O’Kanes have ever faced, and Mad and his lovers are at the dead center of it. They could end up with everything they never knew they wanted—or lose it all. Including their lives.

Once upon a time, two best friends decided to write paranormal romance. And while that was awesome, they also sometimes wanted to write insanely dirty stuff that wasn’t paranormal at all. This is that stuff.

EDIT (17/04/2020): Okay, I have no idea what happened. Reading and finishing this book, I was rather shocked that I read it 5 stars the first time reading it.

Looking back at my original review, I just cannot agree with what I wrote back that. Except for the point that the plot regarding the struggle between Sectors and Eden was the best in this book from the whole series. In the previous books, there were only breadcrumbs, and now the big drama starts. And it's the only positive thing about this book.

I did not care about the romance part one bit. I liked Mad since book one, and maybe that's why I liked this book back then? Because I just could not accept that his book would be disappointing.
However, I have to say that the strongest character for me was Dylan. And looking at this book, I would be probably enjoying this book more if it were just the two of them or them plus Jade since she is major plot player in this book and actually worked well in the romance part. But I had a problem with Scarlet. She just seemed off, forced into this book to make it a foursome.
But Scarlet just does not work; she feels like a very bleak character compared with everybody else. Forgettable.

The bottom line is that I had to force myself through this book and skipped pretty often. 2,5 stars at best.

****An advance reading copy of Beyond Ruin by Kit Rocha was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

Before I started Beyond Ruin, I was actually really worried. Because we got four characters with different background/secrets/stories and also the plot - politics between sectors and Eden. The plot really developed from Beyond Shame. We met more people from Eden and also from other sectors. And it promised a lot of possibilities. But since I knew there would be four main heroes in this novel, I was a bit sceptical if we gonna get some development for the plot.
And I was wrong; there was no need for worries. Actually, the plot was the best in the series till now. The whole novel was probably one of the best in the whole series.

I expected many things - and I got them and much more. From page 1 until the last dot there was still something happening which kept me alert looking for clues and traps where things can/will go wrong.

It's not such an unusual thing to find a book with three main characters. But I never read one with 4. And I own big applause to the authors because they managed to make sure no one was left out and all were committed to all. Since this is a book number 7, we know Mad since Beyond Shame. I believe we met Dylan and Jade in Beyond Control. And Scarlet in Beyond Pain. So we had a lot of time to find some things about them. And Beyond Ruin gave us their evolution. They started to fight their demons and for themselves, their futures. Which resulted in an interesting artwork of characters and personal development.

We also got glimpses (a lot) of Sector One (which should be getting its own novels). I loved Gideon for the first moment, and right now I love him even more.

After reading Beyond Ruin I am really happy and shocked what we got from this novel. But I am also stressed, worried and nervous because now I have to wait for the next novel.

This is a series I've been following for years and this one definitely didn't disappoint...I wasn't really sure about the dynamics of a 4 way relationship but it definitely DID work.....

Dylan/Doc

I've been very intrigued by him in previous books. He's always come across as a bit of a jaded character but something of an enigma and I definitely fell for him here.
He is a doctor from Eden and has witnessed some horrific things which turned him to drugs to block things out.

Jade

Has been used to a privileged life of luxury in Sector Two where she was a spy, trained in the art of seduction. When she arrives in Sector Four people treat her as being fragile but deep down she's anything but.

Scarlet

Originally from Sector Three she has not had the lifestyle the other 3 had and has had to look after herself.

Maddox

From Sector One,he left there when his mother died and fled to Sector Four.He still has strong family ties to Sector One.However, although it might be his destiny to run Sector One some day,his loyalties are firmly with the Okanes's in Sector Four.

*************************************************

Jade and Scarlet are lovers as are Dylan and Maddox. However both couples feel they are missing something....
They all stumble into a relationship which, when they get together is explosive....they each have their insecurities which they work at throughout the course of the book.
The sex scenes are plentiful but at no time are they dirty or smutty.
They are highly erotic and very well written.
What I enjoyed more here than in previous books was the involvement of the different Sectors,as they came together to prepare for war against Eden.

This is a raw, gritty, highly sexual Dystopian series that probably won't be for everyone but I've been hooked since book 1 and look forward to continuing the journey of these amazing characters........

ARC of Beyond Ruin by Kit Rocha was generously provided to me by the authors in exchange for an honest review.

I say this in many of my reviews of the Beyond series, but I'll say it again... This is one of the few series that feature female MC's that I can still stand to read. In fact, it may be the only one left. The Beyond series isn't just M/F, though. We get everything here -- M/F, M/M, F/F, M/M/F, and more, just because the O'Kane's like it that way. But what keeps me reading, even through the presence of female MC's is that these women do not damsel. At all. They are strong, kick-ass women who aren't afraid to go after what they want. And when it comes to protecting their own, they are just as fierce as their men. More so, in many cases. So, I keep right on reading. Oh, and I would be remiss if I did not mention just how HAWT they are. Oh, my.

I also need to say that this book is not meant to be read as a stand alone. There is an overall story arc that takes place from book one, though this one, and will continue through to the series end. Don't start here. Start with Beyond Shame.

For ages, I've been looking forward to reading Doc (Dylan) and Mad's story. I had no idea, for the longest time, that their story would also feature Jade and Scarlet. The only rules about relationships, in Sector Four, are those the parties involved put there. No judgement from anyone else. And that's how it should be, really. Relationships can be difficult enough without everyone else trying to make them even harder.

Jade, Scarlet, Mad and Dylan are all damaged by life, as so many in the Sectors are, and they bring all of their life experiences and insecurities and their strengths to the table. No matter that life has thrown at them, they're still standing and they're still strong, even when they just want to forget. And they finally come together when everything else seems to be falling apart. And working with four people in a relationship takes so much compromise and understanding. Everyone needs to be willing to bend more than if it's just two people. And that is hard, no matter what. Each of our MC's, though, fits the needs of the others and the four of them are stronger than the two previous pairs of them were. So, it just worked.

In Beyond Ruin, things are past the heating up point between the Sectors and Eden. Eden has all the comforts and most of the power, but they want it all. Greed rules them and they can't just leave the Sectors to their own rule, causing upheaval and unimaginable pain to those affected. Jade and Lex maybe most of all. And Beyond Ruin makes is clear that there is no way to avoid war.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how all this plays out.

This book is the story of Jade, Scarlett, Dylan, and Mad a quad relationship. For me, I think way too much work, for them I say follow your bliss.

Individually I like Jade the most by far. She was raised to be a concubine in Sector Two, was previously addicted to some nasty drugs, and we learn she feels deeply for the women of her previous sector. Probably Scarlett is the least developed... I'm not sure what I know about her except about her sexual fetishes, she's a singer, and came from the poor district. Dylan was always intriguing, though I think I found him more so in the other books. He's a doctor from Eden and drug addict. Mad is from Sector One and probably should have been the leader but he fled the zone for Sector Four.

I actually missed the other characters - we saw little tiny glimpses but this story was largely about the foursome and the political situation unfolding. I did like seeing more of Sector One and seeing Jade's dedication to Two but it felt quite different than the other books.

Also, I think I've finally put my finger on what bugs me about menage sex scenes. There is so much talking (especially in these books)!!!! I mean they are constantly having conversations about their magical sexual healing and how much so and so likes what during sex. That would drive me crazy after about 5 minutes. That said the sex scenes were pretty hot and very plentiful.

It was an interesting read but close to the bottom of for the Beyond series for me.

I admit it, I wasn’t sure what to expect for Beyond Ruin. Mostly because it has been a while since I’ve read something for this series but as with any series, I found that once I dove in, I was right back in the sectors and more excited about where things were going.

There are things I liked in this book and then there were things I wasn’t completely buying into. As I think about the story more I really am excited about where Kit Rocha is taking the series. The story of the sectors and their relationship with Eden is coming to a head and things are getting very real, very quickly.

This book focuses on the characters Mad, Dylan (Doc), Jade, and Scarlet. Being totally transparent here, I couldn’t really recall much about Scarlet and Jade from previous books but at the start of this one, Jade and Scarlet are together and Mad and Dylan are together but as the story progressed it became clear that all of these characters were drawn to each other although, there is some tension between Scarlet and Dylan. When they all make the decision to come together things aren’t perfect. Each of them has a backstory and as the challenges with Eden begin to make a larger impact on each of them, the stress of their situations create some issues.

I have to admit, I think of the group, Dylan is my favorite. His struggles with his feelings as well as his drug addiction are something that I find interesting and I really wish we had gotten more information on all of this. One of the things I had an issue with was the way his addiction just disappeared while everything was fine between the group and they only mentioned it once. I’m not sure if the group was just afraid to bring it up or if it was something else but regardless, it felt like it was just a mention when in fact, it appeared to play a big role in Dylan’s life and how he coped with everything.

I also liked learning more about Mad and Jade. Both of them have a history that as the war with Eden moves forward, puts both of them in harm’s way and while Mad refuses to accept the role he was born into, Jade is the exact opposite and embraces who she feels she needs to be, even if that means distancing herself from Mad, Dylan, and Scarlet. I also have to say, I liked how both Mad and Jade revealed pieces of themselves to the group that they have kept hidden from others. It was a definite show of trust and I believe it helped them to make decisions about their lives.

Scarlet is a question mark for me still. I don’t feel like I know anything about her and I don’t know if that is just because I don’t remember her from other books or what but either way, it means I wasn’t completely sure of her with this group. I will say, I liked how she clicked with Mad and how protective she was of Jade. I know she is on the fence with Dylan and maybe that’s why I am on the fence with her. :)

Overall I enjoyed this installment of the series. I am still on the fence about the relationships that include multiple partners – don’t get me wrong, I love how they all find each other but I’m not sure how the long-term relationship will work out. As for the story of the sectors and their push against Eden, I am super excited to see what happens next. I always love when Dallas and Lex are included in chapters and the off shoot chapters are always interesting as I like to see where the other characters are tying into the existing story. I am looking forward to the next book in this series and seeing what’s in store for everyone! If you haven’t started this series yet and you like dystopian and erotica, definitely consider it.

Thank you to the authors for the review copy!

I am absolutely blown away by the seventh book in the series. I know that my review will most certainly not do the book justice in any way whatsoever. If you read my reviews then you know that I didn’t really like Beyond Innocence but hey no pain no gain and you have to read it before you can read this book as it adds a lot to the overall plot of the story. And this was an even sweeter read because of that fact.

Ms. Rocha creates a dystopian world beyond my expectations. It is gritty, hard, lascivious, raw and fucking intense. From the first book I was hooked and each one got better and better. I really don’t know how they do it. I can only assume that their other halves really benefit from it as well. The world building is superb and I know that there have been some complaints about not knowing where it takes place but for me that is the best part of the series.

I can use my own imagination as everyone uses their own and they get their own personal Sectors and Eden. This series isn’t for everyone. There is kinky fuckery and I loved every moment of it. Personally as it is so out of the box and borders are crossed I can see why it is a great success.

Although each book concentrates on a certain couple or in this case couples. The overall plot and story was explosive. There are four protagonists in this book.

5 ‘Not so twisted, anymore. Glorious’ Stars.

 photo Maddox and Scarlet_zpsyh5josvx.jpg

Maddox, Sector One’s lost son of a prophet, who can’t be what his people want him to be. Not after what happened to his mother, what he had to endure and to what lengths he lost his father. He loathes himself that he could become a martyr without even trying hard. At a young age he fled for Sector Four and joined Dallas O’Kane right from the start. Maddox has never let himself someone he has always let them move on.

Scarlet, a street rat from Sector Three, she is unapologetically herself. She is protective, dangerous, and stubborn and she has trouble written all over her. She has lived a hard life but she has lived her life she lost a lot after the bombing of Sector Three. With a huge heart, with enough room for all of them. She is forgiving and takes the negative with the positive.

 photo Doc and Jade_zpszmcz2f6g.jpg

Doc, or Dylan who grew up in Eden where you don’t have anything unless you pay the price. After two tragic losses he turns to self-medication. But boy is he in silver fucking fox territory. I have a thing for men who are silver foxes. A doctor, a good doctor nonetheless he was a tool for Eden to torture citizens. He might not have the tattoos but he is an O’Kane. He is on a self-destructive path if he continues the way he already is. He needs to care for people not as a doctor but more as a nurturer.

Jade, one of Sector Two’s finest courtesans and another spy. A wealthy spy at that. Who can spill bucket loads of secrets and is wealthier than anyone ever expected. Jade or Jyoti came to Sector Four with a drug problem but beat it. She is stronger than she thinks she is. Jade out of all of them has the strongest character development throughout the book.

They all have their weakness and they complement each other.

Mad & Dylan have an intense relationship and what they get say in words to one another they show with the actions that they make. They are explosive together.

But they want more specifically with two sexy ladies.

Jade & Scarlet also have a relationship, they also want to be with Mad & Dylan but how do you bridge that difference?

A twisted fucking game,” Dylan murmured. “That’s what you called it. You want to drag them into it for real?” “Maybe it’s only twisted if they don’t get a chance to play it.”

They balance each other out. Scarlet & Mad are the light.

“It’s who they are. Sweetness and light. I want to see them shine together.”

But there is Jade & Dylan who are on the other side.

“What are you afraid I’ll see? Too much darkness, or not enough?” “I wouldn’t worry at all if I was sweetness and light, like Mad or Scarlet. But I’m not and neither are you.”

There are so many beautiful moment between all of them that it is hard to list them all and the in-depth meaning that they have for one another with just typing quotes down from the book.

There were moments were my heart broke for all four of protagonists but for all of the O’Kane family be it Lex when she was searching for her sister. Be it the news that Rachel told Cruz, Ace & the O’Kane family. Be it Dallas giving Flash, Amira and their daughter Hanna a way out. The O’Kanes love without boundaries. But there were also moments were I felt all hot and fuzzy.

So basically I am ALWAYS for the underdog. We all like a good underdog story/plot/series and this really does deliver. It has everything from pushing your limits, to realising that with people at your back you will get through all that is to come. The sectors aren’t fighting together anymore. Eden will fall, they’ve lost more than the sectors have.

Ashwin finally cashes in his favour from Cruz.
“Ashwin.” “Cruz.” Ashwin ignored the gun – and ignored Bren, too. “I need a favour. You owe me one”
A tablet filled the screen with a pretty, blonde – and familiar. He’d last seen Kora Bellamy when she saved Ace’s life.
“She’s in Sector One.” Ashwin said quietly.
“And?” “I need you to find her. Take her somewhere safe.”
There was no risk, no danger, no reason Ashwin couldn’t have done it himself already. Chilled, he stared back. “What else, Ashwin?” “Hide her. Don’t tell me where she is.” “And if you come back, asking?”
Not all Mahai soldiers can mimic emotions well.
“Not telling me is the favour.” “Understood.” Cruz said.
Holy shite, bloody brilliant. A book with Ashwin would be fucking epic. This leads to it hopefully fingers crossed anyway.
Cruz wouldn’t be telling anyone where he stashed Dr. Kora Bellamy. When Ashwin came looking for her-and Ashwin would come looking for her-Cruz needed to be the only person standing in his way.
As a plot development for me I could see an outside influence approaching. What is behind the Sectors? Well there is a desert that is written in the book but what is beyond the desert?

I really have no fucking clue how I managed to write a review for this book. With collages and gathering thoughts it took me about four hours and who fucking knows if it is any good and no I’m not fishing for compliments I’m just being fucking honest.

6 stars. 6 Mother Trucking O'Kane stars. Back with my full review later but come on, I need book #8 like yesterday.

Edited for review:

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Kit Rocha for an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of the newest book in the Beyond series, Beyond Ruin. For super serial, there was much squeeing the day I got that email. I originally discovered the series through NetGalley, told all my smut-loving friends about it, warned them it wasn't traditional smut and watched as they too fell in love.
I'm having a difficult time putting my feelings about this book into words. First of all, it's the absolute best in the series hands-down. I've loved them all but I give this one 6 stars. 6 O'Kane stars to be exact. There was so much depth to the book that I could feel some of the scenes right along with the characters. I cried along with them, yelled along with them and then left them alone to do their kinky things ;)

Cross-posted to my blog: http://www.thesebookaremyfriends.com

We get to see much more of the other sectors than 4 in this book. The character development and world building is fantastic. Don't expect to see much of your favorite couples from past books. Characters are mentioned but a lot of this book focuses on the other sectors and the battle with Eden.

The end is a huge cliffhanger and I wanted to throw Fritz the Second (my Kindle) when I finished but remained calm. I cannot wait until the rest of you get your hands on this book so we can talk about it.

Warning: if you haven't read this series but want to, start at the beginning. Each book can be read as a stand-alone but I don't recommend it at all. Also, if you are not comfortable with kink, multiple partners, voyeurism, etc., don't pick up the series at all. It's filthy and I love every minute of it.

Beyond Ruin

That ending could have killed me if it wasn't for the fact that I have the next book on my kindle. *breaths sigh of relief* I enjoyed finally getting the history of characters who had intrigued me in past books. I loved watching them fall for each other and become a unit. I think this was my first foursome relationship, I really cannot remember reading another book with that dynamic but I must say I found it believable. Didn't think it would be but it so was. I'm diving into the next book because I can't wait to see what happens next.

Mandi: Wow – book seven of the Beyond series and it’s still going strong. I do recommend reading these in order, as the world and even the relationships build upon each book. Beyond Ruin is a foursome HEA. Any other book or series, a threesome+ HEA makes me nervous. How will they all fit together? How will they deal with jealousy and living in the real world with multiple partners. But those worries don’t exist in this series for me. Kit Rocha has developed a dark and gritty world but the relationships are open, honest and warm. Four people loving each other? No problem! It makes sense in this world.

This book not only takes on a Mad, Dylan, Jade and Scarlet romance, but with a lead up to a war with Eden, these four must look back at their sectors, and the ones they love that are still there, and choose their course of action.

Tori, let’s start with Mad and Dylan. Mad, full of emotions, and guilt left in Sector One. He is in love with Dylan, the intense, colder doctor from Eden. How did you enjoy the two of them?

Tori: Mad + Dylan = YUM. Such intense raw emotions flow off of them. The chemistry between them is a heady explosive mixture of lust, love, and guilt; all compounded by the danger they live with daily. Two strong, broody men fighting for their lives and relationship in and out of bed? SWOON. Their attraction to one another is never in doubt but there is something…someone(s) missing from their relationship.

“She smelled like cinnamon and vanilla. She smelled like she‘d just crawled out of Jade’s bed.”

Throughout the series we have watched as Dylan and Mad have developed into complicated characters whose animosity gradually turned to love. As you said Mandi, Mad is a mess of guilt and shame over his ties to Sector One. A prince in a religious cult-like family, he left his heritage behind after a tragedy left him doubting his family and their agenda. A born protector and “fixer”, Mad maintains a strict control everywhere EXCEPT in Dylan’s arms. With him he can fly free with no guilt. Dylan is a dominant and gives Mad the peace he desires by taking over control in the bedroom. This drug addicted doctor whose upbringing and life in Eden was far darker than anyone has suspected has lived in Sector Four for a while but keeps himself separate from the others-that is, from everyone but Mad. Dylan NEEDS Mad for his own redemption from the demons that ride him.

“Sex was a way to pass the time. Games could be fun or frustrating. But Mad-he was beautiful. He burned with light and righteousness, burned so hot you could feel it even through the anguish and guilt.”

Scarlet and Jade are the missing pieces. Like Mad and Dylan, Scarlet and Jade each gives the other what they want but more importantly, what they need. Extreme opposites, Scarlett grew up poor in Sector Three while Jade was raised in a gold gilded cage as an in Sector Two. The daughter of a former mistress and patron, Jade was “given” to a madame and trained in the art of seduction and espionage. She has seen and done so much, she feels like if she shows her true self to anyone, no one will love her anymore. Her guilt, like Mad’s, is soul draining. Similar to Dylan and Mad’s relationship, Scarlet is the protector their relationship. The problem is, Jade isn’t really broken. She isn’t the glass blown fragile victim everyone sees. There is a core of steel in her that becomes visible once she takes opens to the door to her past and embraces it. A core that shocks her lovers.

“No. I’m done being treated like some broken toy you wish you didn’t want to play with.”

“I don’t want to hurt you.”

[…]

“You can’t.”

While the book is structured primarily around this foursome and their journey to completion, I couldn’t help but feel Jade and Mad were the only ones we really get to know intimately. The romance was believable which surprised me. I’m not a fan of polyamorous relationships and not many authors can actually make it work well in my opinion. Lightning hot chemistry and a realistic look at the issues that encompass a relationship consisting of more than two people kept it flowing along smoothly but I had one issue. Scarlet and Dylan are fleshed out but not nearly as much as Mad and Jade. Maybe because they had yet to come to an understanding with the guilt they carried. What did you think, Mandi? Did you feel the four of them revealed equally?

Mandi: Yes, I agree – I think a little more emphasis is put on Mad and Jade and their backgrounds, although I don’t feel cheated out of getting to know Dylan and Scarlet. I feel like I know them, we just go a little deeper with Mad and Jade. They each have unique, strong personalities, but the author blends them and shapes them in a fashion that isn’t too heavy on details or weighs the story down.

Can we also take a moment to comment on the sex scenes, because holy cow there are some sex scenes in this book. I was fanning myself from the very beginning.

The world froze. This was a personal moment, an intensely private one, and Scarlet willed herself to look away. But she couldn’t. She was a part of this already, and she could only watch as Mad drained the second cup and let it drop to the floor.

It bounced softly on the rug. The thump of Dylan’s back hitting the door was louder. Mad groaned and kissed him, wrapping his fingers so hard around Dylan’s upper arm that they bit into flesh.

Scarlet’s smoldering arousal burst into flame, kindled not by the kiss, but by the desperate ferocity behind it. She’d never thought that Dylan could feel this much, this hard. Mad did, of course—it was who he was, just like Jade—but Dylan had always seemed vaguely cold. Bored.

He wasn’t bored now. He gripped the other man’s hips and dragged him closer, close enough to tear his mouth away and sink his teeth into Mad’s shoulder through his shirt. Mad slammed his free hand to the door and ground against him. “Then stay with me. Stay with us.”

Dylan urged him back, away from the door—and toward the bed. “All this talk,” he murmured, “and you still don’t listen.”

Mad jerked at Dylan’s belt. “We’ve never been good with words.”

Dylan captured his lips again, and Jesus Christ, was Mad ever wrong. Because even with their mouths fused, they were saying so much. Scarlet watched as every touch stripped away something—a piece of clothing or an inhibition, a hesitation or a doubt—until they were naked in front of her. Completely exposed.

Growling, Mad threaded his fingers through Dylan’s hair. One rough jerk dragged Dylan’s head back, the raw possessiveness evident as Mad closed his teeth over the other man’s pulse.

At times (and don’t kill me) I thought maybe we could have done with a little less sex and a little more emphasis on the world. I wanted to see outside the bedroom just a little more.

Now for the world and what is going on – oh boy. Things are happening! Tori, how do you feel about the escalated tension with Eden and the promise of war on the horizon?

Tori: I most certainly will not kill you because I agree. While the sex scenes were all that and more-the strength these four used to carry themselves in public and the way they allowed themselves to be taken care of in private was a potent experience to read-this book wasn’t as world heavy as the others. The romance is the primary focus, as I stated earlier, and I think we lose some of the action and suspense that is normally present. The basics are covered in arc advancement and Rocha does a great job of setting up additional story lines and character hook ups; I just wished the balance had been better.

As for what we did learn-YIKES! The war we have been watching slowly develop is here. The sectors and Eden are at odds and how it will play out no one knows. The tension was outrageous. Much more emotional than I was expecting. So many plays and players have been in motion with seeming no real purpose are now coming together and making sense. I really felt for Dallas in here. His kingdom and people are in danger and he is struggling with the knowledge that some may not make it. You can feel just how heavy that weighs on him. I’m not ready to face that possibility myself. :(

Even with the unbalanced aspects, I love this world and enjoyed watching these lovers learn to look beyond their own perceptions to really see the ones they love. Unlike previous couples, in here it wasn’t the sexual freedom that is needed to be found but absolute trust and respect. Rocha once again gives us a dark and thrilling ride through a post apocalyptic world where love, friendship, redemption, and hope are the shining lights that brighten it. With the hints given in here, I am more then ready for book nine.

“So much life. So much potential. So many bright lights snuffed out before they’d had a chance to taste freedom, all because Eden couldn’t tolerate having less than everything.”

Mandi: Although Rocha gives us a dark world (which I love) they also give us characters that make this have a comfort-read feel for me. It’s a comfort read full of boners. Cheers to that.

Mandi: Wow - book seven of the Beyond series and it’s still going strong.

SWOON. Their attraction to one another is never in doubt but there is something...someone(s) missing from their relationship.

A born protector and “fixer”, Mad maintains a strict control everywhere EXCEPT in Dylan's arms.

[...]

“You can’t.”

While the book is structured primarily around this foursome and their journey to completion, I couldn’t help but feel Jade and Mad were the only ones we really get to know intimately. The romance was believable which surprised me. I'm not a fan of polyamorous relationships and not many authors can actually make it work well in my opinion.

Mandi: Yes, I agree - I think a little more emphasis is put on Mad and Jade and their backgrounds, although I don’t feel cheated out of getting to know Dylan and Scarlet.

But she couldn't. She was a part of this already, and she could only watch as Mad drained the second cup and let it drop to the floor.

It bounced softly on the rug. The thump of Dylan's back hitting the door was louder. Mad groaned and kissed him, wrapping his fingers so hard around Dylan's upper arm that they bit into flesh.

Scarlet's smoldering arousal burst into flame, kindled not by the kiss, but by the desperate ferocity behind it. She'd never thought that Dylan could feel this much, this hard. Mad did, of course—it was who he was, just like Jade—but Dylan had always seemed vaguely cold. Bored.

He wasn't bored now. He gripped the other man's hips and dragged him closer, close enough to tear his mouth away and sink his teeth into Mad's shoulder through his shirt. Mad slammed his free hand to the door and ground against him. "Then stay with me. Stay with us."

Dylan urged him back, away from the door—and toward the bed. "All this talk," he murmured, "and you still don't listen."

Mad jerked at Dylan's belt. "We've never been good with words."

Growling, Mad threaded his fingers through Dylan's hair. One rough jerk dragged Dylan's head back, the raw possessiveness evident as Mad closed his teeth over the other man's pulse.

At times (and don’t kill me) I thought maybe we could have done with a little less sex and a little more emphasis on the world. I wanted to see outside the bedroom just a little more.

Now for the world and what is going on - oh boy.

I've been the biggest fan of the Beyond series since the very first book and I'm always desperate to get my hands on the latest instalment. I don't think I've actually read a book about a permanent foursome before but since the Ace, Cruz and Rachel triad is my favourite relationship in the series I had every confidence that Kit Rocha would convince me that Mad, Dylan, Jade and Scarlet would work together as a group. Unfortunately even though I liked all of the characters as individuals and definitely felt the chemistry between certain pairings I'm still not convinced that they fit well as a whole group and that left me feeling a little disappointed with Beyond Ruin.

I'm having a really difficult time pinpointing exactly why this didn't work for me as much as the books in this series usually do. There is no doubt that the sex is hot, in fact I think it might be some of the hottest that these authors have written yet but in my opinion there was definitely something missing. I could feel the connection between Mad and Dylan, Mad and Scarlet and between Dylan and Jade but wasn't invested in the relationship between Scarlet and Jade which is odd since they were the ones who were already in a relationship before the book started. I also spent a lot of time feeling like Jade was always on the outside looking in, for much of the book it didn't feel like she was as connected to the rest of the group and I felt quite sorry for her because she so desperately wanted to be loved for who she was but everyone was constantly underestimating her.

Although I didn't fall in love with these characters quite as much as I expected to I still really enjoyed finding out more about Mad's past and life in Sector 1. I also loved seeing how much Jade has done to help the women from Sector 2 since she was able to escape, she never forgot the people who were left behind and has dedicated herself to doing what she can to protect those left behind. In fact, Jade has become quite a powerhouse and I have very high hopes for her plans for the future. Where Beyond Ruin fell down in relationship development it really ramped up the stakes in the outside world, things are changing in all of the Sectors and we're now reaching a critical point where things with Eden are about to come to a head. Nothing is ever going to be the same again after certain events and I can't wait to see how this plays out.

So, Beyond Ruin isn't my favourite book in the series (and I'm in the minority for not loving this book so don't let me put you off reading it!) but this is still one of my absolute favourite series and I'm just as eager to get my hands on the next instalment as I always have been. I'm a fully paid up O'Kane for life and can't wait to go back to Sector 4!

Ok

I now remember why I stopped reading this series, but now I have to finish it.

The characters use to be so detailed that you could actually say that you could walk in their shoes or you knew some one like them. As the series went on the more outlandish the sex got and the less attention the characters got.

I like the basis of the story and the struggle to find yourself. The O'Kanes are memorable as always. The rightness in the human soul is tested at every turn.

Have you ever read a book and thought “Finally! This is what I’ve been waiting for!”? Well, it happened for me with Beyond Ruin and it had nothing to do with the foursome the book is about, though they were smokin’ hot. It has to do with the Sectors vs. Eden plotline finally getting the kick in the ass that I’ve been waiting for, and what a kick it was.

For many of us Beyond Ruin took FOREVER to get written, not only because of the promise of a committed foursome and finding out more about each of them, but because we all love falling down the rabbit hole into the world of Sector Four and hanging out with our favorite O’Kane’s. So, it is no surprise that I immediately jumped at the opportunity to get my greedy little hands on a ARC copy and I loved it!

I’ve always wondered why Mad aka Adrian Maddox walked away from Sector One. Hints have been sprinkled throughout the books about why, but finally finding out what happened to him was heartbreaking and explains why he tends to keep people at arm’s length while doing his best to protect them. Jade is one of those characters that I admire, but don’t necessarily love. She has a backbone of steel and determination in spades, but she drove me a little batshit as she overanalyzed certain things. Don’t get me wrong, I got why, she was raised to assess every person and situation she found herself in and figure out how to use it to her advantage, but there were times I wanted to shake her and tell her to stop. Dylan aka Doc (It took me a good portion of the book to remember they were the same person) was a delightful surprise. Who knew that what lay beneath his skin was such a dominant male? He also sees more than people give him credit for and Then there is Scarlett and lemme tell you, I adored her. She’s a cross between Lex and Six and yet entirely her own person. She’s blunt and to the point, pulling punches does not exist in her world, but it’s tempered by the fact that she isn’t mean about it. Scarlett has huge heart underneath that tough exterior and though she has a few hang ups, she doesn’t dwell on them.

Their road to their HEA is a bumpy one, but in true Kit Rocha/O’Kane style they work through their issues in some very smexy be ready to take a lot of cold showers ways as well as some pull at your heartstrings ways. I loved their interactions and how they fought for each other. My only issue is that I didn’t feel as if I had enough time with Dylan and Scarlett together. We get a lot of time with Mad and Jade paired up with the two in various ways, but I wanted more of the other two.

Throughout the series we’ve been shown bits and pieces of the conflict between Eden and the Sectors as well as the conflict between the Sectors themselves but all of that has been child’s play in comparison to what happens in Beyond Ruin. Eden finally makes a statement that the Sector leaders, well most of them, can’t ignore and now the talking is over, it’s about taking action. The twists and turns were well thought out and executed and there are a few things that I can’t wait to see how they all pan out. I loved catching up with the O’Kane’s and getting an inside look at Sector One, but the standout in this book was Ashwin. The Makhai is a scary mother fucker but that just makes him that much more intriguing.

The Bottom Line: *Cue The Final Countdown by Europe* Great addition to the series and I can’t wait to see what’s up next!

OMFG - The Best, THE. BLOODY. BEST. book of the series yet!!!

Hell, 5* come nowhere close to how awesome this book is!!!!

I've looked forward to this book for so long - but was worried that with 4 lead characters, there would end up being 2 couples who came together rather than a solid relationship between the 4 of them.... I should have known better than to worry, those KR gals know how to pull everything together and make it all work - even if it takes a healthy dose of heartbreak, hurt and time to get there.

There were some really fraught time - you can't have this many people in a relationship and not have issues, misunderstanding and upset. There was the heat, passion, intensity and downright dirty, sexy and kinky goings on that we have come to expect from the Beyond stories. As ever, my heart and head were all over the place and at times I didn't think I'd be able to take much more.... but, I got kept going and it was well worth the tears and upset!
I loved seeing them all together but seeing the different connections between them all, how they interacted in the various different ways, finding out their worries, history, secrets and desires, hell, there was so much packed in to this book that made for a complex and delicious read.

As much as Ruin was about the quad and their coming together, the bigger story was the beginning of the 3 book story ARC which saw us move towards the conclusion of this fanbloodytastic series!

We met up with the sector leaders again, were introduced to new characters who have been on the periphery of the story for a while now but who I think are gonna come more to the fore in their own way soon. Our much loved O'Kane's were front and center for a lot of the book and that sense of belonging, family and support continues to grow as the books progress.

So many things were put in motion during this story and holy hells bells..... the ending.... while not a cliff hanger in the true sense of the word, it finished this first part of the ARC with an almighty bang!!!

I can't wait to see what gonna happen following the events here and am really excited for the next great installment in this series.

Another fabulous hit from the Kit Rocha gals!!! <3

I loved a lot of things about this book, but I didn’t necessarily love the book as a whole. I love the world building, and Jade’s journey, but the foursome never entirely clicked for me.

I’ll still finish out the series at this point though. How could I not?

Beyond Ruin is the seventh full novel in the Beyond series by Kit Rocha. I would definitely recommend reading this series from the beginning, as the complex worldbuilding and character interactions are part of an overall story arc that continues from one book to the next (though each story has a complete romance in it). There are a few novellas available that are independent of the series, and if you’ve never tried one before I highly recommend them as they give you a taste of the writing style and content of the series, without committing to the whole thing. But a warning – it’s a seriously crackalicious series, so one taste won’t be enough! But a warning – it’s a seriously crackalicious series, so one taste won’t be enough!

It’s a bit of a challenge to write a review for these books without giving away too many spoilers for readers salivating to get their hands on each successive story. Hopefully I can whet your appetites by giving you some information but still leave you wanting to read the story. By now there are a lot of characters to contend with, and as in previous installments, we get some chapters from the main characters – in this case Adrian Maddox (Mad), Dylan (Doc), Scarlet and Jade – but we also get some chapters from the point of view of other characters, both past and future storymakers.
As mentioned, this story revolves around four main characters. If you’re a Kit Rocha fan, you’ll know right away that this means foursome sex! And we get all sorts of varieties within this foursome (m/f, m/m, f/f, m/f/f/m, m/m/f, m/m/f/f etc). You can’t be shy going into these books, though they started you off in Beyond Shame with just some more basic combinations. As the stories have progressed things have gotten pretty wild. But what’s fascinating about the sex is that each character has their own hangups, their own beliefs and insecurities to bring to the table (err, bedroom) and that makes the power exchanges quite fascinating. If you look ‘beyond’ what’s on the surface (yes, hot, panty melting sex), you’ll get a deep appreciation for how much thinking and character building goes into writing these stories. (And if you’re just in it for the sex, that’s great too but you’ll be missing out). I think the line “If the O’Kane’s prized anything, it was the courage of sexual abandon” encompasses the overall attitude of the series.

The plot of the series has taken us in previous books deep into the heart of the Sectors (initially set up by Eden to supply it with its needs). But things are changing, and Eden is striking out at the sectors that it sees are becoming a threat. A bombing attack on Sector 2 leaves the other Sectors with no choice but to start banding together if they want to survive. The politics of this world fascinates me, especially since each Sector has its own unique foundation that it is built on. Part of me wishes I could get a cliff notes version of all the stories to date, or a compendium that would have all the characters and Sectors and key plot points put in one neat and tidy package. (hint hint to the authors!). There is a revolution in the works, and Sector 4 is going to be at the heart of it all. This makes for some very intense and action packed scenes (amidst all the sexy times). I loved how the story progressed, and it’s obviously leading us to some more shocking and intense novels set in this world. It’s gritty, no doubt. But the kind that makes you feel for the characters and the challenges they face, and appreciate all the more when they can find the beauty of love amidst their circumstances. The second half of the story is a whirlwind of twists and turns that makes it clear things will never be the same again, and that we are barelling towards an all out war. Yet we still get a beautiful romance between our foursome who discover that being together is the only thing that will help them through the chaos. I can’t wait to see where the story will go next! 5 stars.

She punctuated the words with a kiss. “That’s why Dylan loves you.” Another kiss. “Why Jade loves you.” He could feel her heart pounding. “Why I love you.”
Those had to be the most beautiful sounds she’d ever made, and he craved them with a reckless hunger. “Say it again.”
“Dylan loves you. Jade loves you. ” Her hands trembled as they slid down his back. “I love you, Adrian.”
She was wrong, sweet and beautiful and wrong to love him. Dylan wasn’t here as a safe buffer, a leash to choke back this dangerous rush of need. Mad skated his hands down her back to grip her ass and hauled her up his body. “Again.”
“Love you.” She gasped when his hands tightened, and her nails bit into the small of his back. “I mean it, I do.”
“Even if I’m selfish?” A quick jerk, and he had her off the floor, crushed against his body with his dick grinding between her legs. “Even if I’m greedy?”
Instead of answering, she wrapped her legs around his hips and licked his lower lip.
Wrong, so wrong, but not even Dylan could have stopped him from biting her in return, sinking his teeth into the softness of her lip as he slammed her back against a wall. “Be mean to me.”
A slow, wicked smile curved her lips as the prick of her nails deepened to a hard burn. “Jade should be here,” she purred. “To kiss it all better when I’m done.”
That was a mental image to savor – Scarlet raking fire across his back while Jade knelt at his feet, waiting for permission to twist pain into bliss with her clever mouth and luscious lips and eager tongue–
“That’s right. Doesn’t take long to get there, does it?” Scarlet’s touch turned tender, coaxing. “Take me to your bed.”

A war is brewing on the horizon and the O’Kanes find themselves face to face with the action. Eden is ramping up its attack on the neighboring sectors and everyone will be in the line of fire. As Dallas and the gang contemplate their places outside of Sector Four, the impending danger has some facing the demons from their past.

Royalty…..that is the life that Adrian Maddox grew up surrounded by. A tragedy that still haunts him was what led Mad to head to Sector Four. With the impending war, Mad must face his decision to pull away from leading his former Sector and not get ‘sucked back in’. Always determined to let nothing worm its way into his heart, Mad has been a no attachment kind of guy. Through the turmoil, Mad will face opening up to the ones he cares for most. A concept that has eluded him for years.

So much destruction and pain….this is the reality that Dylan is all too familiar with. As the physician on call for Sector Four, Dylan downs his sorrow in drugs. An escape that leaves him with the ability to mask everything that troubles him in life. The person that Dylan has helped the most is Jade….the former prostitute from Sector Two. For Jade - the pain from the past will not leave her mind. Determined to help young girls that are in similar situations, Jade silently works against those that exploit the innocence of so many.

Scarlet has a past unlike her confidants. An orphan that never feels like she belongs, Scarlet cannot turn a blind eye to Mad, Dylan, or Jade. All of the hidden feelings and emotions that surround Scarlet are coming to the surface. Learning to trust will be the only thing that can mend Scarlet’s fractures from a broken past.

Wow!!! Those O’Kanes know how to make a statement!! I couldn’t wait to see what was in store with Beyond Ruin, and I have to say it was fantastic!! Love, loss, destruction, and longing grace the pages of this Dystopian Romance. Life in Sector Four is certainly not ‘ordinary’. In fact, Dallas and Lex make certain that their inhabitants lead a full life. Love in the sector….well, there are no rules and you will discover non-traditional relationships that extend beyond any typical relationship.

Heading into Beyond Ruin - the anticipation of where the relationship between Mad and Dylan was headed was killing me. What Kit Rocha created within the pages of this novel was a love that circled Mad in a most unexpected way!! Adding the storyline with Jade and Scarlet was spectacular. I seriously couldn’t get enough!!

Life with the O’Kanes keeps you on your toes and the sector war upon the horizon kept me glued to my reader! This story was unexpected, full of anticipation, and contained some seriously hot, hot sex!! That’s right….as with most books in the Beyond Series - you can expect to find various relationship types. There can be threesomes, foursomes, and so much more!! All I can say without giving anything away…..READ THIS SERIES!!! Life with the O’Kanes is anything BUT boring!!!

BEYOND RUIN was one I was very interested in reading. Kit Rocha has made some very sexy books over the course of the series but I was most looking forward to this one because this involves a foursome between some very interesting characters.

First there is Mad who we’ve seen the most of over the course of the series. Even then, there isn’t much that we know about him since he’s guarded himself so well. However, when he is in the presence of Dylan, that changes. We see a more playful side to him, a softer and sometimes more intense side. Together Mad and Dylan are explosive but Kit Rocha goes above and beyond that when they bring in two incredible strong-willed women into the mix.

Jade and Scarlet are lovers as well. But neither are afraid of inviting others so when Mad and Dylan enter the picture, that’s really when this book blazes. I had no doubt that Rocha would deliver on the sexiness. It’s what they are good at. Hot, passionate sex has always been such a main feature for these books. But in addition to all that, Rocha is still building their world, creating more avenues for their characters to explore.

That being said, I also think that as more characters are introduced, the easier it is to get lost in this world. Rocha spends some time laying down the groundwork for the next book in the series and while I can appreciate that, I also think it’s funny that such an exclusive group like the O’Kanes can so easily accept others into their midst. Of course I understand that the series needs to go somewhere after the HEAs but I have to say that I’m not that invested in the newbies just yet.

I also want to talk briefly on the tone of these books. As you can expect from the covers and the nature of the dystopian world, they are kind of dark. But I find them to be more emo than truly “dark”. Each character has their own set of worries, their own fears and while they add so much to the love scenes, outside of those moments it can be a little heavy. The books seem to drown in them and I find this especially true for the more recent books in the series. Even after the HEA, no one is truly happy. They may be content, but there is always something haunting that character. I would’ve liked to see some of the camaraderie and the fun times that the first two books had because too much darkness can be too much.

The last 40-30% moved the book along and had a lot going on which ended up saving it a bit for me but really it was the subplot between the sectors and Eden that was the most interesting part. For me the beginning the book seemed to drag, I knew we were building to something BIG but it seemed to take forever to get there. Once everything starting going down the story picked up for me. There is a shift in sector power and a war brewing. It's all very exciting and I can't wait to see where KR is taking us with us. I'm really looking forward to the next book and not just because its Hawks book... :)

I never ended up truly believing this foursome in particular Scarlett and Dylan. They maybe spent 1 page/ 1 conversation alone together yet somehow Im supposed to believe that these two loved each other? Yeah not buying it. Even Mad and Jade I had a hard time with as well because he keeps seeing her as a fragile butterfly and victim and doesn't really seem to get her until the very end. Mad and Scarlet I believed, Dylan and Jade that too I believed.. Scarlet and Jade had a pretty good thing going, tho they would have been fine together without Mad and Dylan. Mad and Dylan Im still not sure how I feel about them. It seems like they were initially brought together by a mutual desire for Jade?? In the beginning they seemed more hot for each other than by the end of the book. I think Kit Rocha may have bitten off a bit more than they could chew with this foursome. Even the sex scenes seemed off to me. Dylan as the Dom just didnt work, I just didnt feel it not like Cruz, Jasper or Dallas. He just didnt pull it off for me and Jade being ashamed that she wanted to be told what to do seemed overblown and somewhat vague I just didnt get what the big deal was about and why it was such a shame/secret. In fact Jade's whole need to be a secret to everyone except Dylan. I dont know it seemed to hinder the character development rather than help it. Dylan seemed to be the most underdeveloped character of the foursome. I still dont feel like I know much about him.

Overall, while the beginning dragged for me and I felt like there needed to be more character development to really make this foursome believable it was still an enjoyable book with lots going on in the sectors. I am still a huge fan of this series even if this book wasn't my favorite. There were plenty of fans that gave this book 5 stars so there are plenty of people who LOVED it.

Java Girl's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I've long been fascinated by both Doc and Mad, the drug-addicted doctor and the prince, and love the idea of these two together. I've wondered about the secrets, and hidden depths beneath Jade’s quiet, watchfulness. As much as I enjoyed delving into Doc and Mad’s pasts, their tragedies and pain, to finally understand what influenced their choices and lead them to Dallas O’Kane and sector four, it was Jade’s story that grabbed me. I have to admit I didn't see it coming, but she really stood out for me. No spoilers here, but I was blown away by her intelligence, strength, determination, craftiness, and courage. She is so much more than I ever would have guessed, and I loved watching her come into her own. Scarlet has never really resonated with me for some reason, and I feel like she got shortchanged a bit here. We get bits and pieces of her story, but I didn't feel that this character got the same attention as the other three. I’d love to see more of her and have high hopes for Scarlet to team up with Six in book #8.

I did discover that four people in a relationship is one too many for me. Too many arms, legs, hands, and other assorted body parts to keep track of. I found myself pulled out of the story, trying to suss out who was doing what to whom. Too many ‘his’ and ‘her’ to keep it all straight. I was terribly disappointed by this because Kit Rocha’s sex scenes are off the charts hot, but I couldn't focus on the scene for trying to keep track of the details.

By far my favorite plot thread in Beyond Ruin is the impending revolution. It's been building forever, but Beyond Innocence went along way toward putting players and spies in place, as well as exposing a loose brick or two in the fortress that is Eden. Beyond Ruin opens with a bang, and the excitement, tension, and danger of war permeates the entire book. I know the series is coming to an end soon, which saddens me, but I am chomping at the bit to see how it will all play out and who is left standing at the end.

Let me start out by saying this, I quit this series after the lack luster threesome of Ace, Cruz and Rachel. Why? I was team ace from the first time his name was mentioned. I was so excited that this would be the first major glimpse of m/m in a predominantly f/f scene series. Then, the book happened. It was such a letdown that I said fuck it and stopped reading. Maddox had intrigued me throughout so when his book came up I was like, ok let's see if I end up disappointed once again. Here's my thoughts:
Pros: finally some good ground building of the other sectors, more depth to how these shape up the "war" that's coming. More on backstories. Character back stories and sector back stories. FINALLY AN INTIMATE M/M couple.....or at least in some aspects. They connected emotionally and the intimacy was there when you saw glimpses of them together. I loved Mad and Doc's moments. So much so, I wanted more.
What did I get? Feelings that it was more of a mad and scarlet coming together with a jade and doc couple. Allow me to explain.
We are used to seeing a good bit of f/f pairings in sector four. So jade and scarlet, no shock and it was nice. Just nice. I expected us to see more of the pairings that seemed like they needed to bond more in a way. Having scarlet and Dylan come together more and Jade and Mad come together more would have allowed more development. Now I'm left a bit disappointed. A bit frustrated as well. If you are going to finally see a taste of m/m in a series and convince your reader these guys have been a couple and have been with each other then show that. In more than just some blow jobs, one sex scene where they are actually "together" and kisses. You have no issue showing a reader how together scarlet and jade are....return the damn favor or just let the m/m pairings go altogether. Sorry for the rant but come on. The couples seemed more m/f than m/m and f/f anyways.

ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review.

Well Hot Damn! I knew when it was time for a book about Maddox that it would pack a punch. Boy oh boy did it! Add Jade, Scarlet and Dylan to the mix and you've got yourself a combination that is decadent, so naughty and wonderfully delicious! Not to mention hot smoldering bodies wrapped in pure hot sex with an overwhelming amount of all-consuming love and devotion.

I loved learning more about what made Dylan tick, more insight into both Jade and Scarlet and how their pasts have shaped them. Mad's backstory was heartbreaking and it finally made sense why he kept himself apart from others.

Put them all together and it was wonderful to peel away the layers of each one, have them come together and fill the missing pieces each were craving and needing.

But wait...there is so much more going on in this book. War is coming! There is a lot of moving parts with twists and turns. This book is fast-paced with so many 'holy bat-crap' moments that left me with my mouth hanging open at the end!

This is me after reading the last sentence of this book:

This one wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Not that I don't believe in Kit Rocha but 4 people is a crowd.

I didn't love the romance. I liked Jade just fine and my boys Mad and Doc where amazing but I just didn't care for Scarlet. she was just there.
most of the time I felt like she was in the way of a great discussion or sexy times.
I even skipped some of her chapters because she was boring and her story wasn't good.
Mad is the "one". Doc had his drug addiction. Jade.. gosh she was an amazing character. but Scarlet? meh.

This book helped to move the war with Eden forward and we saw great characters so that was good. Plus my babies are having a baby! Cruz, Ace and Rachel's news made so happy.

I usually love how this series ties in an overall plot, set in an dystopian like setting, with a nice smut sub-plot in each book. But this installment felt too thin. It was just "here's a foursome couple!" with not nearly enough relationship drama or characterization or action-filled moments to fully flesh the book out. I'll continue reading the series but this book is skippable.

This is a difficult book to rate. In an effort to facilitate my rating I divided the score for the first time ever. lol
I rate the romance 3 stars (average). Kit Rocha has done better in the past.
However the book's plot was 5 plus stars. This book is an essential read if you're following the series. The overall story arc makes some impressive headway in Beyond Ruin. It's filled with twists & surprises -some great, some truly terrifying. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in this 9 book series.
Would I recommend this erotic series? Absolutely!

two gay couples coming together like a puzzle fitting perfectly? love that!
scarlett is so fierce and jade is so soft and mad is getting the spotlight he deserves and dylan is my smol bb
plus the fact that they represent different sectors so well, from eden, to sector 1, to sector 2, to sector 3, is amazing
plus this has the best writing I've read in the whole series so far! so many lovely quotes I've highlighted and come back to!!
