Sticking to the G-Code is more than a motto to a real gangster. POP SOMETHIN epitomizes what an official "G" is all about. For more than a decade, the legendary shooter and jack boy, brought terror to Houston, Texas, using his gun to obliterate everything in his path. When enemies try to clap back at Pop Somethin, he shows them just how he earned his street name, but this time the slaying lands him in the penitentiary. There, he meets C-NOTE, a prosperous dope boy from Dallas, who is being extorted by a vicious prisoner named BUCK WILD. Staying true to A GANGSTER'S CODE, Pop Somethin comes to his mans' rescue in a cold, violent manner that Buck Wild isn't prepared for, and he dares anyone to avenge the well-known convict. C-Note is more than impressed by his new friend's loyalty. When he is released, he offers Pop Somethin a chance to get rich at his side, A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR. With Pop Somethin now on the other side of the drug game, the streets are about to witness gangsterism at its best. Houston, Texas beware!
The cover of the novel presents an invitation into a dark underworld of guns, blood and an illicit favor. The novel delivers every insinuated promise as the scene is set in the streets of Houston, Texas.
In the beginning, we are introduced to cousins Pop Something and Shanice. While doing some time in prison Pop makes an alliance with C-Note to flip some money and create an more lucrative business. As the the title suggests though, even gangsters have codes. When lines get crossed Pop has to wonder one too many times who lives by the code and who will die for dishonor.
Pop reunites with another day one Desi who created a crew in his honor. Pop begins to understand that his name, Pop Squad. The infamy of no-nonsense attitude and itchy trigger finger made him an urban legend. He finds a true partner among many fans and false followers.
Their twisted romance is one of the most intriguing parts of the plot. Twins Queenie and Princess are extracted from Pop Squad and deemed ‘his bitches’. I found it especially interesting how Pop’s mentoring helped shape Queenie’s homicidal heart. She evolved from repressively violent to a realized murderess beside her King Murder.
Overall the characters were very dynamic and interesting. The imagery was very sharp at times and the action and adrenaline was non-stop!
Very good read! A major rush and I’m looking forward to the next installment. Paperback Pushers Review by Jymyaka
If I could give 10 stars I would, omg! I hope by the time I finish this review pt.2 will be ready. I'm at work doing this event an actually finished this book. Pop'Somethin is a BEAST!! I love him an those danm twins. Shanice put that shit in C-Note's head. She's the cause of that nigga's death! Either Shanice gonna kill Pop or Pop is gonna kill her....you keep writing an I'll keep buying!!!
A favor for a favor. Pop is a real gangster, he knew C-note was a punk so he helped him. I hated to see him go out like that but Pop had to protect his family. I knew he was gonna snitch, when he cried about Shanice being pregnant, he knew he couldn't do no time.
This was a five star read. The characters jumped off the page and reading this was like watching a movie. Pop Something is a beast and the twins are crazy! This was my first read by this author, but it will not be the last. I'm ready for part 2.
C-note has to be the weakest dude ever! I knew when he couldn’t handle himself in jail that he definitely couldn’t handle himself on the outside! I love Pop’s character! He has more heart than a little bit.
This was a great read. My book that street was lit. Even some love story. You don't want to miss popsomethin and Cnote and the street they run. When you read the end I wander if you going to feel sorry for the snitch or not. Great read!!!
