Llyfr o gyfres Amdani, i ddysgwyr Lefel Mynediad. Mae'r nofel yn sôn am ddiwrnod ym mywyd Sophie, sydd ar ei ffordd i fod yn ecstra mewn ffilm, ond mae nifer o ddigwyddiadau yn ei rhwystro rhag cyrraedd y set. Mae'n gorfod ymweld â swyddfa'r heddlu sawl gwaith, ond does dim ots ganddi, oherwydd mae'n ffansïo'r plismon yno!
This is the first book I have read in Welsh after completing an Entry-level Welsh Course last week. I went through with a pencil and Welsh Dictionary writing down the vocabulary that I didn't already know and creating a Word Bank. By the last chapter I found that the repetition of sentence structure had helped me to remember words and I didn't need to look in the dictionary anymore! A good book for Welsh beginners that have the patience to study it. This has given me the confidence to have a go at other Welsh Books!
This is a great graded reader! I must confess I don’t find reader books interesting, but this one is great in every sense: engaging and funny story, and useful and on-level vocabulary and grammar.
Good companion to the Mynediad course. While the current coursebook suggests reading this after Uned 8, there's actually quite a bit of grammar here that I learned via Duolingo, but haven't yet learned in class. Entirely in the present tense, this is simple and straightforward, with a little humor to keep the reader's interest. I did keep a dictionary out for words I didn't know that weren't in the footnotes, and there were a few. There was also a word that had to be a typo or transcription error, I never figured out what it was meant to be.
I’ve been learning Welsh on Duolingo and started looking for something I could read, bearing in mind I don’t want to read children’s books but my level is reeeeally basic. Well luckily I found the Amdani series of graded readers by the Books Council of Wales, which offers books aimed at adult learners from entry level upwards. Okay, it was still very basic, but it was a pleasure to read a Welsh book and has definitely motivated my learning after getting a bit tired of the rather repetitive Duolingo content sometimes (NB there are no mentions of parsnips in this book)
I’m currently working through my Mynediad Welsh course and after seeing this book recommended, I knew it would be the perfect chance to test my Welsh knowledge.
It was the perfect length - not being too long to over face you but long enough to provide a challenge and it was a great reading exercise. It was exactly what I was looking for to help improve my reading Welsh and gave me a fair hit of confidence.
I love how the book is structured in that new words are linked to the back of the book where they explain terms and new words. Exactly what a new Welsh learner needs! The story itself was simple but engaging and armed with a pencil, it’s great to translate, scribble a few words you didn’t know to learn for another read through next time!
Mwynheais ddarllen yr llyfr hwn!!
Edit: read this again but in audiobook format this time. It was greatly narrated and another great resource to get better listening comprehension as well as reading.
This is the first completely-Welsh book that I’ve ever read. It was nice that my work up to this point has paid off, as I only had to look up around 10-15 words that weren’t footnoted in the book.
The novel is very short, but is engaging, relatable, and funny. It does the job it is advertised to do, which is to provide a book for entry-level Welsh liners (Mynediad). Can read the whole book in around 20 minutes (allowing for translation times too), and so is well worth having around
This book is about 32 pages long. There are a few pictures and there’s some information about the characters and where the story is set at the beginning. There are definitions of some words at the bottom of the page. It’s a very short story and I finished it rather quickly.
I enjoyed the story, it had drama and humour and kept my interest. I’d definitely recommend it, I found it fairly easy to follow. I looked up the odd word that I wasn’t sure of and did refer to the definitions at the bottom of the page. I found it really helpful that some of the words were repeated, you might forget the meaning of a word if you only see it once or twice but the repetition helped me to remember the word.
This is the first time I’ve read a book from this Cyfres Amdani series, and so far I am happy with it. It’s very short which is great because I could read in one sitting. I’m not learning Welsh in a classroom so I’m unsure what my level is, probably close to intermediate (Say Something In Welsh level 3?).
I’d definitely recommend this book if you want to start reading books in cymraeg, it’s a good start, learn a few new words and build your confidence.
They say you never forget your first. This was my first full Welsh book, recommended to me at Uned 8 of Mynediad, although I bought it a little before then to see what I was getting into.
This is written much in the same vein as the chats/dialogues in the Dysgu Cymraeg course - it's lighthearted and a bit fluffy and silly, but it doesn't hand-hold. There's footnotes, but if you're early in the course, you'll also learn a fair bit through context (i.e. 'eisteddwch' and 'dere' - the command form isn't taught until late Mynediad). The story's broken up with some cute illustrations as well. It's not long at all, so it's not intimidating and a good choice for a first book if you're looking for something simple that's not Biff and Chip.
The ending also made me grin in spite of myself. I'd like to think so, anyway!
First time attempting to read a book not in my first language. I was surprised by how much I could follow just using my basic Welsh I've been learning. Story is quite simple hence the lowish star. But as it is meant as an entry level into reading in Welsh it's not meant to be an exciting read which I expected.
Llyfr bach iawn am un diwrnod cyffroes lle mae'r fenyw ar fford set ffilmio, ond mae petha'n digwydd ac mae hi'n mynd i orsaf yr heddlu tair gwaith cyn iddi hi gyrraedd at y set. Llyfr bach doniol ar gyfer dysgwyr.
Enjoyed reading this book the first time around, it definitely helped me increase my welsh vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure. I am now re-reading it for Clwb darllen yr haf.
