The Wrecking Crew Novella Series

Moonstone (The Jinx Hamilton Series)

Rate this book
Think James Bond meets Rocket Raccoon.

Werecat Festus McGregor leads his Recovery of Magical Objects Squad on a mission to retrieve the Moonstone Spoon from the penthouse of eccentric financier and collector Wardlaw Magwilde. Festus has the operation planned to the last detail until a wereparrot and a member of his own team throw a monkey wrench in the works -- but thankfully no actual monkeys.

Join Festus, Rube and the rest of the raccoons in this fun-filled novella from the bestselling author of the Jinx Hamilton series. Filled with hysterical Fae acronyms and overlapping agency jurisdictions, Moonstone is an escapist romp you won’t want to put down.

If you are familiar with the Jinx Hamilton series, you will be familiar with the character of Festus McGregor, a werecat who is friends with the best wrecking crew in the business, made up of a group of very talented, mischevious raccoons led by the incredible Rube.

Festus is a member of ROMO (Recovery of Magical Objects) who are dedicated, obviously, to searching for, and returning, magical objects from the non-magical world where they can be used unintentionally (or in some cases, intentionally) to create havoc.

This novel revolves around an agoraphobic millionaire who lives at the top of a high rise building in NYC. He never leaves his home of course, but instead fills his days with collections of rare objects, and buying items on the Internet. The millionaire in question, one Wardlaw Magwilde, has unwittingly added a spoon to his collection that contains a magical moonstone.

Festus and his gang come up with a plan that is a sure fire winner, planned down to the most minute detail. It's not an easy challenge as the building is surrounded by cameras, protection, guards, and other deterrents to protect the important people within.

As usual, plans begin to go awry. You may remember a true story recently revolving around a raccoon who began to climb the outside of a skyscraper in NY. Hamilton expounds on this, using Rube to do the same thing, thereby catching the attention of all the news sources and creating quite a scene of onlookers. With their attention diverted, Festus puts his plans into motion.

I am not going to say anything more as it would give away a few surprises and new characters introduced in this novella.

I highly recommend reading the series in the order in which the author(s) intended. You will be drawn into a world like no other, and it will grip you to the point where you begin to believe. I believe in the magic of Juliette Harper!!

Gotta love a wrecking crew mission!

Find out what Festus, Rube, Marty and Booger get up to behind the scenes working for BEAR, The Bureau of Enchanted Artifacts and Relics, on ROMO runs (Recovery of magical objects).

This trip they're trying to recover the enchanted spoon that caused the Wall Street crash in 1929 and the Great Depression that followed.. no mean feat for a werecat with a gang of raccoons as back up when it's sitting in a 50th floor penthouse.

A shorter story, which Festus narrates rather than Jinx and Tori, which fills in the gaps of how Festus met Jilly and Lucy.

I liked not loved it.

These are characters in Jinx Hamilton series I wouldn't necessarily call it part of the series since Jinx and Tory only have a few lines. No, this book is about Festus McGregor (werecat) and his racoon (about 4 to 6 member) buddies/team of investigator's and their investigation team regarding paranormal objects and crimes. It's entertaining but I prefer stories where Jinx and Tory and supporting cast are the primary subject.

Hard time reading

Loved all the other books, but after reading the 1st chapter of this book just got disappointed in how the character feels about people reading the books. On the fourth chapter now, I really try to finish all books, but ...Felt why read it. Does the author really feel this way......I really enjoyed the all the characters in all the books prior to this so hopefully will be better going after the this chapter I am on.

I took a break from the Thrillers and read this fun novella by Juliette Harper.

The story starts with Festus who is a werecat who’s clan guards the descendants of a witch called Knasgowa. Festus gets the aid of Marty, a racoon, Rube and a wereparrot recover a magical Moonstone Spoon. This was very funny and I could almost picture these animals working together and changing plans when an unexpected problem happens at the end.

More more

I sure hope you can figure out a way to keep the crew alive and fresh. I think it's gotten a little too complicated Maybe just adventures. Pull out expand characters. Dad jinks could grow. Stories about the col ghost life could play out. Jinks could get more power. Maybe more Shrieventon stories the Christmas was wonderful

A fun story told by a werecat and his crew of crazy were-animals. Festus is fun and takes his job seriously as the retriever of magical items. Chaos and mischief galore make this an entertaining story. A book that can be shared with the young and old alike.

Excellent!

I loved this well written story! I love the characters and can't wait to look for more stories with them. The storyline was one that caught my eye while reading the author's newsletter and I am very glad I purchased and read!

Fun!

Festus, and his troop of furry friends lead this spin off of the jinx Hamilton series. All told from the irascible were cat's viewpoint, with plenty of pith and vinegar, not to mention racoon shenanigans. Fun!

This book was good. A continuation of the characters of Festus and the raccoons. Fast-paced and narrated by Festus. A couple of new characters that should prove to be fun to get to know. I still like the Jinx Hamilton series a bit better than the Wrecking Crew but they may grow on me.

Fairly good, but not nearly as good as the stories with Jinx and the other 'human' population of the town.

Festus meets Jilly! I hope I'm not the only one who caught the nod to Irene Pepperberg, the animal psychologist who worked with Alex the African Grey.

Fun little adventure

I would have enjoyed the story more without all the cat humor. I am a dog lover, cats annoy me. They story was good.

Great addition to the Jinx Hamilton series

This novella gives us an opportunity to see through the perspective of Festus the werecat, and to follow his "crew" during one of their adventures. It's good, really good if you are a fan of the series. The only reason I gave 4 rather than 5 stars is simply a comparison problem. The main series all gets 5 stars from me, and this novella, though great, just doesn't quite reach the awesomeness of the main Jinx series.
Recommended, to be sure!
