It was overall a nice throwback to the memory lane! However I felt it too factual because the text was plain and was not much appealing! The facts given also don't collaborate with the original stories!
For a person, who wants to know about this legendary actress, this book is wonderful!
I just enjoyed it because of the throwback it provides to her early days in the film industry, her struggles and the problem she faced of not having a film-industry background!
Also, the book has a section of good quality oictures, which help the reader to connect with the stories more efficiently. They provide an insight into her life.
All in all, it was an inspiring read!!

I was very much excited to read this book, not the reason being that I’m her ardent follower on all her social media handles but that I was so desirous to know the journey of The Unstoppable Priyanka and how she ended up among the hundred most influential people by Time Magazine in 2016.
Priyanka Chopra: The Incredible story of a global Bollywood star is an unapproved biography that is Priyanka herself has not contributed to it and this fact has been very well admitted by the author in the book.
The book onsets with Priyanka’s life in Bareilly and schooling days in Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City. Then her years as a beauty pageant for Miss World title. Afterward, the book includes the amusing account of her acting career, her films and how and when she started getting all the recognition and attention. Later, bits of information on trying her hands-on production as well.
The part of the book where Priyanka’s Hollywood crossover is narrated by the author kept me so much absorbed that I didn’t stop reading that part until I’m done. Moreover, this part of the book is well researched giving out all the intriguing stories that as her keen follower we always wanted to know. I loved to read the account of how she bagged the Quantico project and how her singing sensation got the requisite boost. I must say this part of the book was gripping and compelling along with the author’s imposing narrative.
The book includes quite fascinating stories and Priyanka’s sketch from point of view of other interviewees which were interviewed by the author. The interviewees include Anjula Acharya, Sharbari Zohra Ahmed, Madhur Bhandarkar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Karan Johar, Dia Mirza etc.
Well, it’s satisfying to read all the tales of one of your admired personality all fitted into one book.
The book is a delightful read and one not to be missed for Priyanka’s followers.

What wasn’t Good
While reading a few chapters, I felt that the things have just been mere documented and there was nothing more than compilations.
Well, it’s an unauthorized biography so the touch of Priyanka would obviously be missing but somehow incorporating few not so known recitals may have made the book a complete five star read.

Part fan letter, part book review

The day I saw .’Aitraaz,’ I was eleven years old and Priyanka Chopra instantly became my favourite actor from Bollywood. I have followed her journey from that day onwards, religiously. It was not a surprise for me when she instantly became the favourite actor of almost everyone in India but I was secretly angry at everyone for their hipocrisy as they like her now just because she is popular globally when previously they didn’t like her.
For her to represent India at a global level actually made me very proud as a fellow citizen and a fan. I have followed her journey since the age of eleven but to get the inside story, the making of this global star was something I couldn’t miss out on.
Aseem Chhabra has done an amazing work in utilising all his sources well and getting them to talk about the Priyanka they know. Not only Priyanka, in this book, Chhabra has also given insights on various actors who started off their careers with Priyanka, which just works as a cherry on the top.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the minute details which led her to the path she is on now, and to see how all her decisions shaped up in her life. Almost everyone who talked about her in this book said the same thing about her, that she knows nothing but hard work, and I have to give her credit for teaching me that because It is from her various interviews, social media posts, and speeches that I learned that hard work is the only key to success and it is great to know that she herself is the prime example of it.
I read this book in one sitting, that is how hooked I was, and how effortless the writing of this book is. The tone of writing became repetitive towards the end, and for that reason it is not a five star read for me.
In a nutshell, if you are a Priyanka Chopra fan or are just curious to know more about how she achieved what and where she is right now, then you should definitely pick this book up.

My Verdict :4/5

This was like reading a very elaborate Wikipedia page on Priyanka Chopra. With a writer who calls #MeToo accusations 'embarrassing', it's no wonder that Chopra chose not to personally contribute to the book.

Priyanka Chopra: The Incredible Story of A Global Bollywood Star looks at the back story and journey of Priyanka Chopra as a middle class girl who ended up spending a bit of her formative years in the US, her journey to Miss World taking her to Bollywood where she ended up playing ultra glamorous roles, then eventually Quantico and then taking a small spotlight in the American entertainment firmament. Assem Chhabra has painstakingly laid bare before the readers the many pitfalls that were a part of Priyanka Chopra’s journey to the global sensation that she’s become now: the singing career that really didn’t take off, the slow slide of the Quantico fever and the movie choices that she’s taken up in Hollywood. He also brings to us the people who have remained behind the scenes to contribute towards the name and fame of the actor whose acting prowess really hasn’t shaken up the firmament.

Chhabra’s writing is crisp and he doesn’t fall prey to making readers indulge in gossip over the actor. Rather, the mention of Priyanka’s link ups to two married men are mentioned in passing and there’s no fuss on those counts. There is more attention given at making readers face to face with the drive and ambition behind Priyanka Chopra as someone who is willing to take risks and try uncharted territory in terms of not just her foray into the American entertainment industry but with her own homegrown production house venture to make quality films in Indian languages.

I would recommend it to readers who love reading biographies and more so, if you are not looking at racy tit bits as the cornerstone of an interesting/racy biography!

If Anyone who know me well, knows that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE PRIYANKA CHOPRA, and I got this biography of her's titled 'Priyanka Chopra: The Incredible Story of a Global Bollywood Star'

by Aseem Chhabra only to know more about her.
.
The book is written in a chronological way divided into 9 sections, each segment unfolding the major period of her life; starting from her childhood days to early Miss World pageant days, from being an actress in Bollywood to being introduced as a pop singer in Hollywood, from being a protagonist in a show, Quantico to later days of managing Bollywood and hollywood projects simultaneously.
.
Although the author has tried to touch each and every aspect of her life, he failed to develop a connect with the star. Had this book been my first detailed encounter with the personality, I would not have been interested at all. Not because there's not much to know or appreciate about her, but because the writer failed to set up the structure of the book.
.
This book turned out to be nothing but a compilation of the Print media news, description of the digital media controversies and buzzing of her Instagram posts and tweets.
It seems like the author has not come out of the article writing zone of his. Every incident is written like a report that is to be published in a newspaper with validated facts and figures.
Nonetheless, I finished reading this book only for the love for PeeCee and her inspiring journey.
.
Rating: 2.5/5
.
And then she was asked, 'If your life were a book what would the title be?' Without batting her eyes, she said, 'UNFINISHED!'

In a biography Priyanka Chopra – The Incredible Story of a Global Bollywood Star, Aseem Chhabra, India’s leading film journalist attempts to find some answers to her success.

Priyanka Chopra is everywhere. She is on billboards, posters, magazine covers, newspapers, TV, movies, radio and social media. She is followed closely by the paparazzi who capture her every move. We think we know all about her. But the truth remains that we don’t.

Priyanka Chopra comes across as an approachable and relatable celebrity. Yet, she remains an enigma…a mystery of sorts! Even to the ones who she keeps close. She’s always surprising people with a new facet of her personality – beauty queen, model, actress, singer, film producer and philanthropist. Life seems to be taking her to places that no one has ever been before. There is always something extraordinary happening in her life. It seems like she´s destiny’s favourite child.

But, does her success and fame due to mere destiny or luck alone?

The book opens with a question that was posed to Aseem, “Does Priyanka Chopra deserve a book?”

Priyanka Chopra: The Incredible Story of a Global Bollywood Star.
Aseem Chhabra.
Rupa Publications
2018. Pp – 256

A small town, middle-class girl turned into a big crossover star, that’s Priyanka Chopra for you!
In yet another biographical account, Rupa Publications brings to you a remarkable book. Aseem Chhabra makes an attempt to bring forward the journey of the national, now international star, digging deeper into success with each step, big and small.

This one here is a detailed narrative of the struggles and perks of glamour, and an absolutely flattering tale of transformation, told in 9 sections.

I give it a 3 on 5, because the structure could have been a little better. Nonetheless, it’s a satisfying read and you’ll enjoy if you’re into Bollywood and celebrities.

Written after a lot of research and prior knowledge, ‘Priyanka Chopra’ is a book that sums up all that has been said and seen by the protagonist. The author compiles all the interviews together and whirls a narrative that depicts the journey that is inspiring. However, reading this book was equivalent to skimming on the waters. Not even at one instance did I feel that the anchor had touched the sea-bed. It is all cursory; it lacks depth. Since Priyanka is not the one who has contributed in this book, the only scaffold that the author offers us is the interviews and the transcripts of the chat shows. We don’t get to see what is behind the façade of reel life. As a reader, our minds are not satiated with the information provided in this book.

As an avid fan of Priyanka Chopra and her journey over the years I was really looking forward to read her autobiography. I guess I am a little disappointed! I found the narration a bit plain.

I admire her courage for writing about depression and loneliness! It makes her so humane! But apart from that her memoir shared nothing the readers already didn’t know from all the media news’s already!

It lacked finesse!

An adoring fan's ode to his screen idol! There isn't anything new in the book that isn't already out there. We don't get a glimpse Priyanka, the person, we only see Priyanka the actress. So there's little point in a biography like this that just puts together news from the public domain.

Easy read

In true Aseem Chhabra style the book is engaging and a breeze to read. For those unfamiliar with the context of PC in Indian cinema in terms of her filmography and film journey, this is a good read.

"I received a copy of this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review."

Priyanka Chopra: The Incredible Story of A Global Bollywood Star by Aseem Chhabra is, as the name suggests, the biography of one of India's star (and my personal favorite), Priyanka Chopra. The book is divided into nine sections and talks of her journey from a small town girl from Bareilly to what she is right now. Needless to say, her story is flattering. And beautiful. And what every Indian girl hopes to have.

When I was requested to review this book, I instantly accepted because like I already wrote, she is one of my favorites. What I did not anticipate however, was how I may not end up liking the book.

Yet, I think it is better to start with all the things I loved about the book. Here's a start:

1. I love that someone thought up of writing a book for Priyanka Chopra. Does she deserve to have a book written on her? I'm not sure about that, but for anyone who wishes to know more about "our hugest crossover success story" as said by Karan Johar, this is a definite start.
2. The cover of the book was a beauty in itself.
3. A lot of interviews and research has been undergone to make this book happen, and as it is, I'm an appreciator of research and effort. Of course, I would say that's a great thing about the book.
4. The book features her life from almost starting to till date. Or at least, all the major things there were. Her obstacles in becoming who she is today, her successes, her mistakes—basically, everything that can picture her as a flawed person and yet, a beautiful one at that.
5. The writing style in the book was rather intriguing. I, for one, enjoyed reading a non-fiction book (which, I sometimes don't)! But then, I think my major inspiration was that it was a PC book.

However, despite this, there were a few things that I did not like about the book. Starting from the basic, it bothered me a lot that Priyanka Chopra wasn't there herself to direct the book. Of course! It isn't the author's fault, or the publishers' or even Chopra's, because she might have had a really busy schedule considering how things are there. But it bothers me still to think that it could have been made into a better book had it not only contained the facts collected from media and her friends, but also from her. Perhaps, the book would have done better to have a little bit more of Priyanka in it along with her friends and family and of course, the ever-present, media!

I just think that the book could have been delayed a bit, if that would have fit her schedule and then written once she was available. Not only because it would give us, the readers and her fans, a lot more idea about the truth behind those mysterious rumors, but because it could give us an insight over who she really is.

Who is Priyanka today? All that we know about her is through the media. Of course, barely anyone of us knows her for who she really is. And so, when we read a book on her, we expect a little more than what is there in the media.

Not that the book was bad. I mean, there were interviews conducted with so many of her colleagues and friends. So many previous interviews looked over. Honestly, had I committed that much research in my studies, I would have topped the state, if not the nation! (And I wasn't a brilliant student in my Science section.) So you get the hint, right? There were things about her life that were disclosed, which a lot of us did not know about. So if you're a fan, you should definitely give it a try. The only thing that upsets me is that she couldn't co-ordinate the book herself. Maybe, a lot of questions that were asked in the book would have been answered then.

How does an actor, a celebrity in one part of the world, become famous in another country-- a large nation like the US -- where most people are inward looking . . .?" writes Aseem Chhabra in his Priyanka Chopra biography.  Chhabra does not ever disappoint in this finely detailed look at how Priyanka Chopra rose to well-earned success in Hindi cinema and then started all over again in America working her way upwards into becoming a South Asian American global film and television phenomenon.

Chhabra gives us a great look at how Priyanka achieved incredible success despite all the barriers thrown in her path.  Along the way we find out what beauty contests are all about.  How to counter sexist typecasting or answer severely button pushing questions from a mischievous celebrity chat show host.

Indeed Priyanka Chopra has encountered all manner of barriers and ill-mannered negative chit-chat that beautiful women might face and bested anyone foolish enough to act overly adversarial.

Most people from India are extremely proud of her accomplishments because she represents the best about them, their genuine and authentic nature and their very old but always extremely relevant culture.

She is an exceptional champion of all women in everything that she does and much of what she says and yet also she represents the ordinary person who achieves amazing extraordinary success through hard work and extreme perseverance.

Surely she provides an exemplary example for anyone who wants to attempt something difficult.  Chhabra talks to many of the film directors and writers and film producers she has worked with who reveal little gems, little secrets to her success and random acts of kindness or respect.

He goes into a lot of excellent detail about how she was able to achieve singular success in Hollywood after conquering Bollywood or more specifically Hindi cinema.  Chhabra brings out how she's such a nice relatable personality who we will never meet but would instantly cherish if we ever did.  He let's many of her quotes from interviews tell her story but she also answered many of his questions that we might have.

This book is an incredible introduction to an amazing lady who never stops continuing to amaze us.  Also, a nice touch is mentioning her description of her ever evolving career as "Unfinished" which mentions the name of her recently published autobiography.

This book offers so much hope and support to those who persevere to achieve an impossibly difficult goal.  Plus it makes you feel good and sometimes laugh at the absurdity of what everyone sometimes must confront.
