Buzz into Being a Bee to discover more about this incredible insect. Buzzing from flower to flower, and making delicious honey to eat, bees have endless child appeal. Gentle engaging text, and bright, captivating artwork will ensure children finish the book as bee experts!
This book was a sleeper for me. This was a Real Man Read book for my third grade class. I was disappointed when I was preparing to read it.... no storyline.... too many words on one page..... pictures that were not engaging enough.
Boy did I miss something.
It must be that kids are just drawn to bees. That they want to know about nature. That they'd all had experience with bees. I started reading and there were hands up all over the place. So many questions about bees! Every page brought more questions. Finally the teacher of my class had to make a rule - No more than five questions per page FIVE QUESTIONS! PER PAGE! I actually felt a little sheepish. I expected them to be bored.
So.... I guess I cannot give it 3 stars. The kids loved it!
For props I took in a jar of raw honey with the honeycomb in it. I had taken a piece of honeycomb off and rinsed it off so they could pass it around and see the hexagonal cells of beeswax, and feel the slick wax. And for a treat, what else than the classic candy 'Bit-O-Honey' from the local Cracker Barrel store.
Tons of interesting information about bees and their habits. Helpful for teaching kids about the importance of bees and our reliance on their contributions to nature, as well as how we can care for them. Love the bold and colorful illustrations.
I used this book with my students on National Bee Day. Simple book that explains and illustrates the crucial role of bees. Students need to learn about their environments and the impact of their actions. Don't kill the bees!
What a great book! This would be a wonderful addition to any school or classroom library. Lots of great information about bees and beautiful illustrations.
