False Profits

All Les Money had ever wanted, barring not living his name, was a role. Slinking back home to the town of Fortune from decades of walk-ons and off-Broadway in Hollywood, he's a matinée-handsome never-was who's found a calling: The Golden Boy. He's become the miracle-working hand-layer for The Right Brother TD Fortune, a philandering televangelist whose MegaVictory Ministries controls his rural fiefdom in every way, from the strip club to the trailer parks.

Everything's been simple: Panhandling and faith healing and babysitting The Right Brother through every money-grubbing scheme. All of this while TD's resentful brother, Richie, sick of living in his plus-sized shadow, schemes to take him for everything.

When Richie's designs strike more than a lonely spark, Les' polyester-sweat-and-proselytizing Sundays are invaded by a dim-witted French-Canadian shyster with an agenda and his amorous wife with designs on Les. Add to that a neurotic mineralogist and a conspiracy to steal more than just TD Fortune's Golden Boy, and sleepy Fortune's about to light up in a frenzy of greedheaded machination and more than a few explosions.

Now Les will need to play the role of a lifetime if he hopes to survive Richie's estranged muckraking daughter, a double-dealing Moral Majoritarian and his porn star girlfriend, and a misanthropic mining magnate's psychopathic henchmen. And then there's that two thousand pound shark.
