I hate the rock star, but he’ll make me learn to love him…
Joss Myers is a gorgeous rock star jerk and my celebrity crush. I never thought he’d notice me, not in a million years.
Let alone marry me in a stupid Las Vegas mistake.
I thought I wanted him, at least until I became his wife.
Now I know I hate him.
He’s arrogant, conceited, self-centered, and a million other not-so-nice things. He’s refusing to make this sham-marriage easy for me, and he thinks it’s funny to watch me squirm.
If I want an annulment, I have to go on tour with him. He wants to keep me in his room like a trophy, ready and waiting for his every desire.
Screw that. I’m not going to be that bastard’s plaything, even if the thought sends shivers down my spine...
He keeps putting his hands on my hips, his lips against my throat, his words in my ear: You’re the rock star’s wife now, sweetheart, better get used to it.
But there’s more to this situation than I realized. The band is teetering on the brink of breaking apart, and Joss doesn’t seem to care.
All he wants is my body, and I’m afraid that if he gets it, I’ll never want to walk away again.
Hating the Rock Star is a steamy, rough-and-tied-up rock star romance with adult themes and lots of laughs. It’s only for readers 18+.
Hating the Rock Star is a full length standalone novel. No cliffhanger. Guaranteed HEA!
Are you kidding me? She is some intern and he is a rockstar. While serving beer to him, he asks her to come with him to Las Vegas. And the dumb girl agrees. The next we see that they wake up drunk in there respective rooms and are married. But they don’t even know that they are married. Yes the Las Vegas wedding plots. Can’t the dumb girl see or feel the ring in her finger. Like really? There’s a strange ring in her finger and she doesn’t even know about that while bathing? What? Is she that stupid.? And then he blackmails her to stay married till his tour is over and then only he will agree for annulment. So when they are leaving for the tour he is waiting for her to come up. And meanwhile he is thinking about fucking the air hostess. Then it clicks he has already fucked her. Wow. What a manwhore?
Not my book. The h is too dumb to be real. One moment she is flirting and giggling with him and the next moment she is calling him asshole. The H is yet another asshole manwhore piece of shit rockstar.
I know I sound like a broken record when it comes B.B. Hamel’s writing the books that I have read have been all 5 star reads for me. The author knows how to keep her readers glued to her words from start to finish. I enjoyed reading about Grace and Joss I love reading there love story. When I was finish reading Hating The Rock Star I was a happy reader.
I usually don't read rockstar stories, they have too much ego, drugs, and are just plain ridiculous most times. BUT if it is a fav author I will go ahead and do it. Well B.B. came out with one and I had to jump at it. So here we go.
I really did love this one. As usual, Joss and his band have egos and more money then they know what to do with. So when Joss's bandmate bet him to marry the first girl that walks into the recording studio, then he can get his song on the next record Joss jumps at it. Needless to say, he didn't know it would be the new intern Grace, the sweet girl that has a huge crush on him.
Grace is the new intern for the record company, but she has no idea what she is walking into when she is invited to Vegas by Joss and the band. What will happen when Grace ends up married to this singer and finds out it was all a bet? Will she run? Will she try to make it work?
I'd of liked the book much better except author did make the female "hate" the "asshole entitled rockstar" every third paragraph in attempts to ring true to the title. With hardly any background development we find Grace, an intern with the band's label bringing drinks to the band. The lead singer Joss invites her to Las Vegas with the band and she simply says yes. Next chapter she finds herself married to Josx after partying with the band. He doesn't seem to treat her bad but she starts the tour hating him. It seems immature and dumb to keep telling him that he's an asshole when he's really ok. B.B. Hamel can really pick the covers for the books! Wow! Hot,!! So that's my review. I've read worse and I've read better. The tour scenes seemed to be written well. I like how they explained how dull touring was except for the lure of the stage and all the attention.
i've read many from BB before but i thought this was a very light hearted fun read .. hilarious at moments and would be a great movie ... i think so??! but am i just reading more into it or was it kind of rom-com-ie? do u ever wonder when u read .. do u see something totally different than some1 else who is reading the very same read?? i am curious!! i enjoyed it! fun characters .. i see there is a 2nd book ... wonder if it is in KU as well?
One of my favorite books of B.B Hamel funny, sexy , steamy and I loved every second of it. I hope he starts a series with the other band members I think it would be fantastic. Love this author.
This story was just awful, the characters in the band were so over the top and stereotypical it made cringe. Also the female character was described as having short blonde curly hair and yet the book cover shows a long haired brunette so clearly not a good representation. I wouldn't recommend this book at all.
I love this author so took a chance on this book. I really liked Grace & Joss' story. I felt for Grace & though Joss acted more like a child then the adult he was. All in all not a bad story. I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review for a copy of the book.
The author has produced another excellent story with lots of interesting twists and turns to make this an intriguing read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would have no hesitation in recommending it.
Working as an intern for Somesuch, one of the biggest Indie labels around, is a dream come true for Grace. Joss, Nathan, Chase and Landon comprise Slide, Grace’s all-time favorite band. Grace doesn’t know the real reason she is in Las Vegas with the band, but Joss knows if he wins the bet, he will have one of his songs on their next record. Nathan has organized a surprise tour, but everyone knows once they hit the road what life is going to be like. Joss never intended going through with marrying Grace; he only planned to play along with the joke, have some fun, but not actually marry her. Instead he went through with it; now he has some explaining to do. Grace had never let loose like that in her life, but with Joss by her side the whole time, talking to her, teasing and flirting with her, it was a dream come true. Grace is a nobody and never considered herself special or interesting; she is as normal and plain as they come, so why would one of the biggest rock stars in the world be interested in her enough to marry her. Grace doesn’t want to be married to some entitled rock star; he is not exactly husband material and the only way she can get an annulment is to go on tour with him. The studio is releasing their second album and they will be going around the country supporting it, but Joss wants his wife on the road with him. Grace has to decide, but Joss hopes she makes the right choice. Explaining the situation to her boss, Grace is told to keep the band happy and on schedule. Joss is an arrogant man and Grace doesn’t want to be at his beck and call, yet she is excited at the prospect of going on tour with him. Grace knows the band party hard and isn’t sure she will survive a whole tour with them. Each member of the band have their own individual demons to deal with and having Grace on the tour soon becomes an added distraction. So far this group of men have barely been a band. They have fought, complained and the only time they have looked cohesive at all is when they are up on stage. But watching them work, Grace can see the truth; they love music, especially the music they are making, but can Joss keep the group together. Never one to think things through Joss announces his marriage to Grace. Suddenly the extra publicity and one-sided interviews overwhelm Grace, leaving her conflicted. Grace doesn’t know how she ended up married to the rock star of her dreams and hating every second of it, yet bit by bit she is actually starting to know him; given the choice, can she walk away. Landon has his own issues and believes it is time for him to leave the band and the animosity that has existed for years between Joss and Nathan finally comes to a head. Is this going to be the end of Slide, or can all their past differences be reconciled? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Outstandingly entertaining, sensuous and emotive, a WONDERFULLY ROMANTIC 5+Star MUST-BUY! Once again, author B.B. Hamel is giving her readers a fantastic gift in her newest offering, “HATING THE ROCK STAR!” In this old fashion love story the relationship between the main characters, Grace and Joss, is built upon a foundation of friendship before the combustible attraction between them finally explodes. The book blurb gives a few more hints about the plot, but what prospective readers need to know includes the following: the characters are rich, realistic and so well-developed one might expect them to walk off the page and into readers’ hearts! The plot is complex and so compelling, this reader fell asleep reading it in the wee hours of the morning. I wanted to finish and find out how this compelling story found that promised HEA! Finally, readers can look forward to eloquent prose that allowed this reader to not only “see, hear, and feel” what the characters did, the changing point-of-view used to tell the tale also gives readers amazing insight into why each character made the choices each made. While I volunteered to read an ARC copy of “HATING THE ROCK STAR” to prepare this honest FIVE+STAR+ review, “HATING THE ROCK STAR” is going into the FAVORITES COLLECTION of my Kindle so I can read it again! If you have never read a romance written by author B.B. Hamel, then start with “HATING THE ROCK STAR”! It is my all-time favorite B.B. Hamel novel and I suspect you will like it too! I must STRONGLY recommend that you purchase your copy of “HATING THE ROCK STAR” today! Happy pages! 😉
I love fictional rockstar romance stories and can suspend my disbelief like a champ, but this is one of the worst books that I have read, thus far. Look, I know insta-love is a common thread in this trope because the entire genre is extra high on the unreality meter, but this little gem of a book is not worth your time.
We’re led to believe that the lead singer of a famous rock band takes a record label intern to Las Vegas after just meeting her, marries her a few hours later because of a bet whilst she’s blind-drunk, and then whisks her off on tour with his band. There’s minimal back story; not their ages or home lives, or if the h is still in college and single. There are so many unanswered threads, making it impossible for the reader to relate to any of the story or characters. For example, we don’t get told if the h is still getting paid whilst she’s away for an inordinate number of months, so we don’t know if anyone back home is relying on her share of the rent. Most rockstar books with similar storylines always address these issues. It’s obvious that the author has no clue about the music industry and seems to have solely relied on google for research. The grammar is atrocious (apparently, writing in paragraphs is now a thing of the past), the lack of a timeline makes it difficult to gauge the passing days, and the narrative is laughable. The characters are all one dimensional, there’s scant character or story development and no buildup to the MC’s big romance. There’s absolutely no chemistry and then, bam, there’s a bland sex scene that sounds like it was written by a twelve year boy.
This book may be a quick read but please, for the love of god, don’t bother.

I received a copy of this book as an ARC for an honest review. I loved it! Read on....
It all started as bet between Joss and his band members. One of the guys bet Joss if he married the first girl to walk into the room, Joss would get one of his songs on their new album. As they are sitting there, Grace walks into the room and Joss from the band Slide comes right up to her. Grace has been a huge fan of the band for a while now. So when Joss asks Grace if she wants to go hang out with them in Vegas, she agrees not knowing what she is really getting into. And they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
Grace wakes up with a severe hangover and can’t remember how she ended up in bed with Joss. Joss is a womanizer, man whore, and a complete jerk. When he wakes up they both realize that they are married. Grace immediately cannot believe she went along with it and married Joss. She wants an annulment. Joss, being the jerk he is tells Grace the only way he will give her want she wants is to have Grace join him on the band’s tour. She has stay the entire time and then he will let her go. You are in for one heck of a ride with Grace and Joss’s story. There are moments that you won’t see coming and an intense passion with some stormy chemistry between the two! I loved it! --Jay @bbhamel
Wow this is one story where the main characters, Joss and Grace are full of Hate and then Love! Joss is part of an upcoming rock band, Slide and Grace is an intern at the recording studio. Joss wants to record a single written by him on the next album and ends up making a bet he has to marry the next woman he sees in Vegas. They all know Grace is the only woman in the building and Joss is just fine with that decision. Grace has intrigued Joss and he is looking forward to their weekend in Vegas. Grace has no idea what’s in store for her and she goes along for the ride and much more. The band and Grace have a great time celebrating in Vegas that neither Grace or Joss have much memory of what happened the night before, they woke up married in separate rooms. Grace wants an annulment and Joss convinces Grace to go on tour and if she can handle it to the end he’ll give Grace a divorce. Joss wants to see where their fake marriage will go and does what he can to keep Grace. Their back and forth and up and down is just one hard fought relationship that ends up in their faces. Will Grace be able to stay to get her divorce or can Joss show Grace that what they have is something worth fighting for? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
What is it about Las Vegas that compels authors to use it as a favorite locale when setting up a story featuring a rock star. We meet Joss Myers and his soon to be new wife Grace as the novel opens with the band Slide relaxing between mixing their newest album. Grace is a record company intern, and the lucky recipient of a wager instigated by Joss's bandmates: marry the next girl to walk through the door. Not a problem for Joss, he knows Grace is the only female in the building, and besides he's had his eye on her for quite some time.
Next stop Las Vegas, an Elvis impersonation chapel and unholy bliss here they come.... Life goes off the rails from there: tour buses, groupies, drunken excesses, the good, the bad and the fugly are all thrown at Grace in rapid succession, so quickly she's barely able to adjust.
I enjoyed Hating the Rock Star quite a bit. It has all the elements necessary to keep a reader enthralled: a unique storyline, crisp dialogue and steamy sex scenes. This was my first book by Ms. Hamel and I can guarantee it will not be my last, I am looking forward to reading more installments on the other members of the band as this one is subtitled Rock Hard Book 1. Highly recommend!
i read this book as part of an arc program. I loved this story about Joss, a rock star and Grace, an intern at the music studio. When Joss's band mates bet him he couldn't marry the next girl to walk into the room, he goes along with it because it means a song he wrote will be on their next album. When Grace enters, they go drinking in Las Vegas and the next morning, Joss wakes up barely remembering he got married. Grace also barely remembers the night before and when Joss tells her he will only give her a divorce if she goes on tour with them, she has no choice to go. Grace really thinks Joss is an arrogant jerk, but she is attracted to him. When her boss learns she married Joss, he tells her to go on tour and keep the band from falling apart, she will get a promotion. The band has a lot of issues and things are harder than anyone thought to get through them. I liked this story, i found there was great chemistry between Grace and Joss. I also thought the band mates had complex issues that needed to be resolved. I think the guys really cared about each other, even though they were hurt in the past. I liked all the characters and would like to see more from them. Good one.
Love to hate, hate to love? Little of both? Whatever it is Joss and Grace have it going on in spades! When the arrogant rock star of Slide takes the bet of a lifetime to the extreme, Grace the intern, and fan extraordinaire is caught up in the craziness of it all. Backed into a passion fueled corner, she should run for the hills, but pride, curiosity mixed with a whole lot of good and bad chemistry have her following along on with Joss and the rest of the band on their intense tour. Thinking this was her only way out. Joss.. well he had other plans! Talk about a hurricane of emotions! WOO! I am all about hate sex scenes!! ** whistles looking away** The back and forth tension is dramatic, thick and full of heat! I found it amusing; I had a love-hate thing going on for a bit for these characters myself .. with there all over the place ways.. seemed rather fitting! Bits of humor, plenty of sweet, love sneaking its self in! Great storyline, read this book in one sitting! 4.5 Stars!
There is Grace, an intern for a music studio where some of her favorite bands record. Then there is Joss, the lead singer who makes a bet with his guys to get his latest song on their next album. The bet, to convince the next woman he sees to marry him in Vegas. He knows she is the only female in the building. He was fascinated by her the first time he saw her. She is a total fan of the group and when he asks her to go to Vegas for the weekend, she agrees. Little did she know she would wake up the next day married and wants an annulment. Joss decides she is going to have to work for it. He wants to keep her and so, convinces her that if she can survive going on tour with them, he will give her a divorce at the end. Well, now she sort of hates him but is still drawn to him. Will she be able to make the whole tour. Will she end up getting hurt? I really enjoyed the characters in this book and it was a fun plot. An easy one-click.
I voluntarily wrote this review from reading an advanced copy of this book.
I have never been so confused and concerned about the dynamics -- or lack thereof, more like -- within a successful rock group and later between Joss and Grace. Grace comes across as a literal airhead, probably because she was just a really nice, good girl.
I am disappointed in this book, though it did improve considerably in the last few chapters. Grace's dialogue sounded repetitive and unoriginal, lacking inspiration due to her own cluelessness about what she was really feeling about Joss. I'm not sure if her age was mentioned, but she sounded like an idiot sometimes. Obviously, hers was not one of my favorite characters, along with Nathan. Those two shared the habit of using the same unreasonable lines and lack of common sense. Joss, though, was awesome for the two of them. One point six stars.
Hating the Rock Star (HtRS) was a fun read. I really enjoyed it. The story was solid and the book was well-written. I think the evolution of Grace & Joss’ relationship was well-timed and believable.
I do have one complaint, though. Their bedroom scenes were steamy, downright kinky. And they both seemed to revel in what the other did and enjoyed. But none of it was really referred to outside the bedroom. I would expect Joss, especially, to make some references, or at least to think about Grace’s darker interests.
If nothing else, considering his playboy persona and love of sex, I’d expect him to consider it one more reason to keep her around.
Beyond that, ultimately, very small issue, I think HtRS is a great book. I’d give it 4.5 stars if half stars were possible, but since they aren’t I’m OK rounding up.
This was a good read. What starts out as a bet turns out to be more. When Joss is bet to marry the first girl through the door, no one thought he would really do it. That girl turned out to be Grace, an intern, and a big fan of the group Slide. After they get married, that is when the drama comes in, and it comes in hard. Grace hates Joss and thinks he is an entitled, arrogant a****le, but she still can't help wanting him, too. While on tour, things start happening, some good and some not so good. Tension is high and so are everyone's feelings. Will they be able to make it through the tour and what happens when Grace finds out about the bet? There is a strong connection and crackling chemistry between Joss and Grace. Just remember, not everything stays in Vegas.
I really liked this book. I felt that Joss and Grace had a lot of chemistry and enjoyed the softer side of Joss that only she saw. I wish she would have explained why she hated him and had it be rational. I also wish she would have realized earlier that he wasn’t really forcing her to stay on the tour. The twist comes with the band and I would really love to read more about the band members as well. Overall, the bet that was issued was a way for Joss to realize what he really wanted and it was a good way for Joss to get over his fears. A great book about someone changing their image, even if he doesn’t Elaine that is what he is doing, and being a better person for the person they love. The only question is: will Grace realize that she loves him or will she walk away?
Superficial. That would be the best word I can think of to describe this book. We know the characters for about two minutes before they're married. We know nothing about them, other than their jobs, we are told our H is basically against marriage but not why. There's no character bullilding, there's no chemistry or connection and there's no backstory or motivation to anyone or anything. We are told what happened between Nathan and our H but it was very 2d and glanced over, so again, nothing real. The author can put sentences together. She can write a paragraph, a chapter, but there was absolutely no feelings for anyone or anything in this book, which is ultimately what I, and i think everyone, look for in a book.
I always look forward to read a book that is written by this author. Even when the story line not original, you can count on story to keeps your interest as there is usually a twist that makes it unpredictable. Grace and Joss marriage started as I mistake but what a incredible mistake it turned out to be. I completely enjoyed the story even though I'm sad that Joss chose a sh*ty way to prove to his friend that his girlfriend was a no good cheater. I can see that he believed that it was the only way, Since he tried yo tell him many times an he didn't believe him. However unconventional or hurtful his method was, he did out of love and his friend was better off for it.
This book has a great storyline and the characters are so real. Grace has been a fan of Slide since their first album. She is interning at their record label and has always crushed on Joss, the lead singer. When Joss invites Grace to go to Las Vegas with them she's excited and they all end up drinking way to much. Grab this book today to find out what happens when Joss and Grace find out they got married. This story pulls you in from the very beginning and has betrayal, lies, grudges, and all kinds of twists that kept me turning the page to the very end. Definitely recommend this book as a must read.
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Joss and Grace. Joss is just looking to win a bet. Grace isn't sure what she is but she knows that she has lusted after Joss since she first heard him sing. Can these two find a HEA or will all the bickering not only from them but the band as well be the end of them?
This is another amazing hit by this author. There are so many things I want to tell you about this book. However I don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Joss is the lead singer for a band and Grace is the intern from his PR company. The boys in the band have a bet: that Joss marries the first woman that walks into the room. The details are a bit hazy due to all the drink, but all Joss knows is that he needs Grace around. There's lots of tension with the band members, and we see their vulnerabilities and personalities when they are under pressure. Through it all, Grace and Joss manage to stay somewhat connected. I really liked all the characters in the band and Karl, the manager, and even the blogger Fanny. The story was a smooth, quick read. Entertaining read.
I received an arc of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it.
