Sawyer Landry is sexy, rugged, charming… and did I mention sexy? Back in college, we were best of friends - which meant I secretly hid an epic unrequited crush, while he dated every other girl on campus… and then told me all about it the morning after.
Now I’m back in Chicago for the first time in years, and Sawyer is determined to rekindle our friendship. I swore, I wouldn’t put my life (and heart) on hold for him again, but just one look at his handsome face and I know, he’s still the only man for me.
But this time, things are going to be different. No more sitting around, waiting for him to realize his dream woman is right in front of him. No, I’m going to make him see, I’m not just one of the guys anymore.
But can I really go from sidekick to soulmate? And will this playboy bachelor realize, true love is waiting - if he’d only take a chance?

UPDATED Review: This was nagging at me so I went back to finish the book. Well, I should've just stayed with my first instinct and not waste my time. 🙍🙍
Original review: So this was the same story but in a different couples pov. DNF @ 47%. Didn't want to waste my time.
I just don’t have positive feelings for Gabi to begin with, so it was hard for me to get through this book. I like it better when the Hero is the aggressor in the relationship but I figured good for her on getting a backbone. But after that it just went downhill. The backbone just... disappeared. This book just makes me hate the concept of love lol—I feel so glad that I don’t catch feelings easily because man, Gabi is so fucking stupid for Sawyer, it’s pathetic.
Hhmmm….for the very first time, I’m having trouble with how to write a review for this particular author’s books. Seriously. There’s just soooo much I want to say about Soulmate, but I would be revealing way too many spoilers if I did that. And I don’t want to be a dick. So here’s my attempt. Just bear with me…
First off, let me just say that I really, REALLY liked the book. There…out with the easy part. Deep down, I was thoroughly entertained and liked the entire plot of the storyline. The writing was flawless, like all Katie McCoy books that I’ve read. The characters’ dynamic together was explosive, playing off the friends-to-lovers vibe that works well for stories like this one. The development and evolution of Sawyer and Gabi’s relationship was effortless, and the desire and passion that leapt off the pages was wholly scintillating, scorching hot, and emotionally driven.
BUT. And I really hate to throw this ‘but’ in here, BUT I wanted to throttle both characters repeatedly throughout the span of reading their story. No joke. I wanted to scream, rage, and strangle both of them for entirely different reasons. This story messed with my emotions and outlook on this book the entire time. One minute, I was absolutely sure this was another 5-star read for me. Then in the next chapter, I was about ready to throw my kindle across the room and yell hysterically. I won’t go into great detail about WHY I had this strong of a reaction – remember, I don’t want to be a dick – but let me just say that as many positive qualities both characters had, their downfalls were just as big.
Goodness gracious. I don’t know what I was expecting out of Sawyer and Gabi’s story, but it wasn’t this. But after reading it, I’m glad I had such a profound reaction to it. It tells me that the author’s ability at engaging her readers and capturing their attention is a quality not all authors possess. This book will linger with me and make me even more anxious for the next, and final, book in the Rascals Series.
Pick up Soulmate now. It won’t disappoint!

Soulmate by Katie McCoy is the fourth book in her Rascals series and features Sawyer. Though technically each book could be read as a standalone, you get more out of the series if you read them in order and they are so worth reading!
In Soulmate we get a second chance romance between two best friends, Sawyer and Gabi. They were very close in college. But Gabi harbored feelings for Sawyer, while Sawyer only saw her as a friend. He avoided relationships and anything to do with them, but he valued Gabi’s friendship. Gabi knew she needed a fresh start, or she would never get over Sawyer. So, she left for five years, but now she’s back and determined to avoid him at all costs.
Yet all it took was one interaction with Sawyer and she knows she is a goner. Sawyer is excited to have his friend back, but Gabi wants more. Could this be their second chance or will Sawyer stick to his old ways? I am loving these series so much! Soulmate was sweet and a bit angsty and so much fun to read.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog. Happy reading!
Well, darnit. I'm on a roll right now with new voices and DNFs.....I should probably play the lottery. Or not.
When I try a new to me author, I want to be blown away. I don't want mediocre. I don't want ok. I want to be blown away. I want the story to carry me away and keep me turning the pages late into the night. Unfortunately, this was a no for me for a few reasons.
Yes, you can totally picture me laying on the floor, kicking my legs, a la 2 year old tantrum style.
While the story wasn't busy, it wasn't exactly boring either, so that's a plus. Unfortunately, it wasn't busy enough to make me want to keep turning the pages either. By the second chapter, I was skimming already and that tells me something. Problem is, I didn't much care for the heroine. I don't like ladies that create drama, unintentional or not, just to get a reaction. I really don't like that. Within reason, I understand why women push away men, and the chase is all but theirs to lose, but the buildup and the tension has to be there in order for me to feel that...and this one fell flat in that department. I feel like I was thrown into something and was missing some sort of backstory. Now, before anyone gets upset with me, I know this is #4 in the series, but I was assured this was able to be read as a standalone. And you can. You can totally read it as a standalone....I just didn't feel any magic between the characters.
I feel like this one was a very common scenario - as in: heroine loves Hero from afar while Hero sleeps around for years while heroine pines for him and he seemingly doesn't know it because he doesn't give her the slightest inclination that he really likes her, all the while knowing/feeling she's the one he doesn't deserve. Yes....all one long, drawn out, unpunctuated sentence because it's been done so many times and this one just read like that to me. Monotonous. No inflection in the voice or the story. It didn't make me smile and want to rave about it. Again, it's not bad, but it just wasn't working for me. It didn't feel like it was worth my time since it wasn't moving me.
I hope I'm the odd man out on this one and it's just my mood, because the other readers seem to be enjoying it. Oh well, on to the next.
I am really loving this series!!!! Gabi is back! She's back in town after ghosting her bff Sawyer who she was in love with. Unrequited love. Sawyer unknowing.....I don't want to think he can be that clueless, but he is. I loved these two. Sawyer is fighting these feelings for her, because he doesn't want to lose her because she is so important in his life.
I loved the fact that she was going to pursue him to cross over the friendzone. Their chemistry is HOT. Sawyer really fights himself on his feelings for her, but he knows deep down, he in deeeeeep. Sawyer and Gabi are great together. I loved their story. I CANNNNOTTT wait for Dante and Hayley's story! I've been wanting it since the beginning!!! Neeeed it!!!
A Girl Who Feels More Than Friendly Feelings for Said Guy.
And One Overwhelming Case of Unrequited Love.
This is the situation that Katie McCoy presents readers with in her newest release, Soulmate; this is Sawyer and Gabi’s story and out of all of the couples that McCoy has introduced readers to in her Rascals series, I have to say that these two frustrated me so much more than any of the others, partly due to Sawyer’s apparent obliviousness of Gabi’s feelings for him but mostly because some of Gabi’s antics didn’t sit too well me, which made it difficult to connect with her and see the possibility of them rebuilding a friendship that was lost when Gabi ghosted Sawyer let alone something romantic developing between them.
I get why Gabi left her life and her friendship with Sawyer; for her own sanity, she needed a fresh start after repeatedly witnessing Sawyer’s manwhoring ways. But Gabi’s thought process when she returns is quite skewed, especially when she thinks that she can change Sawyer’s mind about commitment by becoming his friends with benefits’ bedmate.
Sawyer’s reasons for not wanting a committed relationship seemed a bit too surface level and the fact that he didn’t learn from his mistakes the first time didn’t make me feel confident that he could make things right after he messes up yet again.
Despite my issues with the main characters, though, the story line is well paced and it provides the necessary insights into Gabi and Sawyer’s shared past. It also quite clear that their connection is deeper than Sawyer’s willing to admit, so it didn’t surprise me that he had to lose Gabi all over again before he went about claiming the one woman who has always been his…his friend…his lover…his soulmate.
3.5/4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
I was so excited to get Liam's story, I fell in love with the five owners of Rascals since book one in the Rascals Series, and Liam is one of those five who I had yet to decipher, the other one is Dante, which has me even more excited about his being the final story in the series.
But let's get back to Liam. I fell for him really quick but I would be lying if I didn't state how frustated he made me feel with how could he be so oblivious to Gabi's feelings and then behave the way he did. He was in love with her and he had yet to acknowledge it, and all I wanted to do was smack his face and knock some sense into him, the thing is, this happened with Gaby too, I loved her as well, but there were some times where you just though of how she deserved better, and wanted her to realize it, so she could move on, but also wanted her to come clean about their past. Anyway, the chemistry between them is there and even when they haven't admitted their feelings, they pour out of the pages. The problems weren't based on a lack of love but on the issue they both had talking their hearts out. Nevertheless, they made me swoon, smile, laugh out loud and giggle. And yes, I hurt for them and with them too.
I truly love this cast of wonderful characters that Katie has whipped up for us . Gabi and Sawyer are our latest couple. Having met in college they became friends and for years she sat back and watched him woo other women and be the player. She as you say ghosted him after school. She need a clean break to make a fresh start she knew her feelings for him would not be reciprocated . She has grown and moved on but now she is back in the same town due to her new job. She may be there but she is not seeking him out. What are the chances that she will run into him .....obviously really good. Sawyer cannot believe his eyes yes it's Gabi . He wants to rekindle their friendship and he soon finds out that she is irresistible but he doesn't do relationships and this is the deal breaker. Decisions, changes. and soul searching , it may be too late if he ever comes to his senses. Loved them and their wonderful cast of characters! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
Soulmate by Katie McCoy is book four in the Rascals series and a standalone but I highly recommend reading the entire series which is full of fun and sexiness!
Gabi and Sawyer were college best friends but Gabi left in desperate need of a fresh start. And the fact that Sawyer looked at everyone but her for something more. But now, Gabi’s back in town and is ready to avoid Sawyer at all costs and keep living her life. Gabi just doesn’t know that Sawyer isn’t about to let her slip through his fingers again.
I loved everything about the relationship between Gabi and Sawyer. Sexy, emotional, real and just like a couple you would hang out with. Gabi knows what she wants and goes for it. And that was one hell of a grand gesture to win her back ;)
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one in the series!
I love the Rascals series! Each of these guys are so interesting and just appeal to different parts of me. I feel like Dante’s going to be my favorite but we’ll see.
Gabi is every girl who has ever had a crush on their male friend who loves them dearly but sees them as a pal. Gabi grew tired of having to watch Sawyer NOT see her, so she moved on to creating her own life. But we all know, you can never get over your first crush and Gabi doesn’t. She sees Sawyer and she’s got to try.
Sawyer is completely oblivious or he pretends to be oblivious. Either way, he’s surprised when Gabi starts flirting and being more aggressive.
A storyline that has been done before sure, but in a way that only Katie McCoy can do! Her Rascals series is anything but the usual stories you might have read.
I think this is my favorite Rascal book so far! I adored Gabi and Sawyer’s friendship! The conflict was very predictable and cliché but who doesn’t love the good old bestfriends-to-lovers trope? Gabi was amazing, her feelings weren’t pathetic at all and she really owned that sh*t, I’m proud of her! And Sawyer, damn, that’s a fine man. I loved him, I get his fears and yeah he messed it up but it’s valid. I really enjoyed this, was super fun and romantic and just lovely! Now I’m ready to read Hayley and Dante’s story, I’m DYING for them to wrap it up!!!
Soulmate by Katie McCoy is book four in the Rascals Series, this is Sawyer and Gabi's story. Soulmate like the other books in the series can be read as standalone. The previous books are Rascal, Wingman and Heartbreaker.
Sawyer Landry is co-owner at Rascals bar, he's charming , a smooth talker and he never does commitment loving his single life. That is until his best friend from college who cut all ties with him with no explanation turns back up in town.
Gabi Harris is back in town, she has a new job, life is going to be good. That is if she can avoid the reason why she left town years ago!! But fate always finds her way and Gabi finds herself standing before Sawyer and in that very moment everything comes rushing back. Her crush on him, her disappointment, her pain and ultimately the love she has always had for him, while he was oblivious.
Soulmate is a witty and fun read with just the right amount of drama and has all the feels a great friends-to-lovers romance .
Soulmate by Katie Mccoy is the fourth book in her absolutely addictive Rascals series. I have loved following the love exploits of the five college buddies who opened up a neighborhood bar called Rascals.
In Soulmate, readers get Sawyer’s story. Sawyer is the strong, quiet, furniture builder who is a total commitment phobe. Gabi, who has just moved back to Chicago, is one of Sawyer’s best friends. She is Sawyer’s only female friend. However, upon her return, Sawyer struggles with the fact that his best mate is now super sexy. How will the self-proclaimed king of the one-night stand keep his distance and maintain their friendship?
I really enjoyed both Sawyer and Gabi even though I felt that Sawyer needed a brick wall to fall on his head and Gabi needed to make Sawyer work a bit harder to gain her forgiveness. They’re perfect together, and miserable apart. I really appreciated Gabi’s successful career transition storyline in addition to the romance. Soulmate is a delightful friends-to-lovers romance with a few nice twists and a slew of great characters.
As with the other books in the series, Soulmate can be read as a standalone novel. I do feel the books are more enjoyable if you read them all though. I enjoyed Gabi and Sawyer as a couple.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. For more reading recommendations, visit Book Junkie Reviews at www.abookjunkiereviews.wordpress.com
Goes down as another off my 2019 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book with a shirtless guy on the cover. Which safe to say is going to be most romance books out there, they know a good thing so why mess with it.
So Gabi is back in Chicago after five years hoping to land a new job at a cool library to do with event planning. Her time away after college was needed for her own peace of mind but she misses home and her mum so is back. All she is focused on is her, potential, new job but her best friend Emily has others ideas about what her focus should be on. They both need to meet someone new and interesting but can’t seem to find the time. Well fate has a funny way of sorting that one out.
Sawyer is a bit of a player who would run in the opposite direction if a women thought for a moment that they could have something serious. He can’t see it ending well due to bad examples he has seen. Doesn’t help his way of thinking when three out of four of his best friends are loved up to the ninth degree. Seems their new bar Rascals has brought them closer to getting their other halves. Can it work its magic on him too?
Gabi and Sawyer first met in college where they became fast friends and only that. Mainly due to Sawyer not really seeing her as a woman but as only a ‘friend’, not someone he’d sleep with. Not so good for Gabi because it didn’t take long for her to fall for him big time. When college was over she knew she needed to break the bad habit and stop all contact, easier as she moved away. Five years later she’s back, and as the fates would have it, gets saved by the one guy in Chicago she hoped to not bump into. Almost walking into traffic was a shock but looking up at the guy who saves her dam near stops her mind short – Sawyer. Seems he wants to start where they left off as friends but she has other ideas, well she’s hoping anyway. She doesn’t want to go back to being the friend who has to see him flirt and hook up with other woman right in front of her. Not again anyway. This time she’s going to make sure she gets his attention.
It’s a cool first meeting with all the gang from the bar – guys and girlfriends in tow. Though Rascals is closed for poker night Gabi’s still let in. Her plan, if the bar had been open, was to do something to make Sawyer notice her, like flirt with another guy. With Dante being the only unattached guy there – well until he and Hayley get their act together – seems fair game after Hayley gives the all clear. There are two words that are sure to make the game more interesting – strip poker. The whole jealously thing to get a good reaction from him works like a dream – well at least for moment anyway. It’s definitely a kiss worth waiting for, until he ghosts her after that is.
Group outings are good with this lot, great fun atmosphere. Sawyers nice, relaxing cabin is just the ticket. Shame he is ignoring her at the time, as he can’t handle that kiss it seems. Knowing she needs to force the issue with them alone, when everyone else leaves, she decides to be a bit sneaky by messing with his engine. Oh well I guess they will just have to spend the night together in the warm, cozy cabin. She wants him to talk to her but really talking is the last thing she wants to happen. A chemistry bomb slowly ticking away the longer they are alone, just waiting for its spark. A game of truth or dare could be just the ticket. Holy smokes there was clearly a lot of built up tension between these two because once those floodgates were opened nothing was holding the passion back. Can they just have a friends-with-benefits situation? Good to start with but how long can it really last?
Aside from the bar Sawyer has a very successful furniture business where he makes/restores custom pieces. It’s hard labour work so watching him work in his shop would get anyone’s pulse racing. Shirtless with low slung denim jeans molded to him and beads of sweat dripping down his back as he works away. Yep I would have jumped him too.
The passion is on fire with these two but Gabi is holding back something that could ruin them for good. With him being a commitment phobic she has to be careful not to say three certain words or he will run. His actions show his feelings are changing too it’s just he can’t, or rather won’t, see it for himself. How long she will be able to fool herself into thinking she can handle things as they are is anyone’s guess.
Oh man near the end you will want to snack Sawyer upside the head for how clueless he is. Luckily all the girls, guys too, do it for us. Let’s see how long it takes for the light bulb to go off in his head about what is right in front of him. They are meant to be but might need a little help getting there.
Another great read from a fabulous series. Really looking forward to Hayley and Dante’s story. Man alive the spark that sets them off is going to have to be big. Jealously might play a part too if the end of this book is anything to go by.
EEEEK. That was the sound I made when I realized we were getting to read about Sawyer. Soulmate is the fourth book in the Rascals series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, all of these characters are present in all stories so I feel you really miss out on getting to know the characters if you do not read them all. Especially since there have been tons of hints about the last novel. This book has all the heat and romance from all the others, but is also unique with it’s plot. Soulmate is Sawyer’s story. I was so excited to read his story. He has been viewed as a bit of a playboy in the past, but I also feel like he is a big chunk of glue that holds the others together. I really feel like he is the sensible one that can give good advice, but also provide comic relief when needed. Getting to see him in the hot seat was very interesting. Especially when we find out that his love interest is a blast from the past for him. Gabi is an amazing character. She is so relatable. I loved how she has the past with Sawyer and how she discusses and thinks about it. It gives us insight into who she was back then and who she has become. Let me tell you, I love the feisty vixen she has become. I love how she grew up and now has self value. She is willing to do what she needs to in order to give herself the life she wants. Then you have Sawyer. Oh Sawyer. He made me want to bash his head in at times. He is what I expect from a male, but it was okay. I liked that he stuck to his guns and had a vulnerable side. The heat between these two was a long time coming. Gabi has always been attracted to Sawyer. She has always harbored unrequited feelings. Seeing him again, just amplified the feelings she thought she buried. The true shocker is when Sawyer sees Gabi. He values her friendship, but he cannot deny the chemistry between them. This chemistry is what leads to the heat between them, which is beyond amazing. The writing style of this book is much like the rest. I liked the plot. The pace of the story is steady. I really enjoyed the characters. What I loved most, was getting to see how the other characters are doing. I really think this story really helped set up the next story. I cannot wait for that one. Overall, this was an amazing story. I have really enjoyed all the stories in this series and I cannot wait to see what comes next. The set up over the last four books for Hayley and Dante has been amazing. I am so beyond invested in them and they haven’t even had their story yet. I feel like it will be heartbreaking and hot all at the same time. Ratings: Plot: 5/5 Characters: 5/5 Heat: 5/5 Writing Style: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Soulmate is the fourth book in the Rascals series by the very talented, Katie McCoy. It can be read as standalone but I do recommend reading the series. It’s full of sexiness, sweetness, and swoon. I have been waiting for Sawyer’s story and it was totally worth the wait.
Five years. It’s been five years since Gabi ghosted her college best friend, Sawyer on Graduation night. She had to move from Chicago to DC to get a fresh start. She could not go another night of him looking at her like a friend while he was on the prowl for a one night stand. Her heart could not take it so she ran. Now, she was back and she was prepared. She was going to avoid him. That was the plan anyway until she saw him. Looking even better than before.
Sawyer can’t believe Gabi was back. He missed her. Her friendship meant the world to him in college. She was the only girl he could talk to about well, anything. She was feisty from the moment he met her. She wasn’t like the other girls. She wasn’t fake. She wore baggy clothes and kept her nose in a book. They had the best friendship until she disappeared. He found out later she moved to DC but he let her go. But now that she was back he wasn’t going to let her go again.
Sawyer never saw Gabi. She was now determined to make him see her. She has changed over the years. She wasn’t a tomboy. She found fashion. She found herself. A badass woman with needs. Needs she knows Sawyer could satisfy if he saw her. Not just as a friend. She knew it wouldn’t be easy. He was scared of commitment. If he knew the feelings she had for him, he would run. But maybe just maybe, he will think she is worth the risk.
I loved this one! The whole series really. They just keep getting better and better. Sexier and sexier. More and more emotional. I liked Sawyer in the previous books but I fell completely in this one. And Gabi. I love her! She knows what she wants and goes for it. She knows Sawyer. The ways to make him tick. His cues. I felt like I was right there with them in the room. They are real. Raw. Sexy.
Overall...it’s one of my faves of the series! The characters are fantastic. The writing is addicting. The story is real. I can’t wait for the next book. Dante is in so much trouble!
Quotes:
I was head-over-heels in love with him, but he just didn’t feel the same. Not even close. He didn’t see me.
“Don’t worry,” I said softly. “I’ll be gentle. I promise.” He looked at me for a long moment, and I swear, I almost combusted.
“Are you just going to stand there staring or are you going to do something about that?”
Five guys. One bar. And a whole heap of sexy trouble…
The fourth book in the series, I can't believe I'm only just discovering it!
I love a friend's to lovers romance and SoulMate ticked all the right boxes.
Sawyer and Gabi were joined at the hip all through college, she was his wing-woman and Sawyer treated Gabi like one of the guys but Gabi's feelings for Sawyer were more than friendship, a secret she kept to herself.
Unrequited love *sigh, Gabi got to a point where she couldn't stand the hurt anymore but didn't want to ruin her friendship with Sawyer and decided to move away? Gabi just left, the thoughts of carrying on seeing Sawyer with different girls after nights out with him were she waved him off at the end of an evening with a different girl, it was too much t bare and so she moved away without a word.
Gabi returns years later both for her mum and for a new job all the while hoping she doesn't bump into Sawyer again who she cowardly left without a word or forwarding address, only fate has other ideas.
I loved Soulmate, I had to admit Sawyer frustrated me, the guy was blind and his fear of long-term relationships foolish and Gabi too, how she kept quiet for so many years then just ran without even confessing made me want to shake her, she was naive at some points but I suppose sometimes the time has to be right and let's just say the hot chemistry with these two once they finally got it on made up for all those frustrations.
As I said, I can't believe it's the fourth book, I loved Sawyer's friends and the author didn't give any spoilers away with their story's, which makes me eager to also read those and I also look forward to reading Dante's book which is the next one, he seems like the bad boy in the group... yum :-)
I was completely engaged throughout and can't wait to read more from Katie McCoy.
Told in first person dual pov and leads to a hea, I wanted more to the hea but hopefully, I will see how they're getting on in the next book.
Sawyer has been Emmy's best friend back in college. They met in the most weird circumstances, but they hit it off. It didn't take long for Emmy to fall in love with him. Problem is that, Sawyer would do any girl but her. She's invisible to him. She's his buddy. So, what she did after graduation was to move far away from him without telling him.
Years later, she was back in Chicago. Someone needed her. Running into Sawyer was last thing in her mind, but fate has other plans and Chicago is so small they just have to bump into each other. The man can still take her breathe away. But no way she was going to sit there and wait for him to notice her, she'd do something this time, and make him see what he's been missing.
But what happens when Sawyer is not ready for a relationship?
I enjoyed reading it! I like Emmy - her determination, her love for her mom, and her unwillingness to settle for less than what she deserves. Sawyer is oblivious, and it is half-funny, half frustrating. I love how easy they go back to friendship, and how smooth the transition was - until Sawyer decided to screw it up (lol). But he did redeem himself at the end, and boy, he was good.
Sometimes, you look for love in far away places and you rarely notice that it is just right there beside you. I am just glad Sawyer finally noticed it before it was gone. Yay!
Soulmate is fun, sweet, sexy and undeniably good. I can't wait for Dante's story!!!!
Disclaimer: ARC received in exchange for an honest review
Rascals Bar co-owner Sawyer gets the book boyfriend treatment in Soulmate, Katie McCoy’s fourth entry in the Rascals series. This second-chance romance reunites Sawyer and college gal-pal Gabi and chronicles their journey to happily ever after.
Previously ghosted by Gabi following a significant college friendship, Sawyer is committed to rekindling their friendship when he bumps into her at a busy Chicago intersection. Gabi is less sure about picking up where she and Sawyer left off, though. Her feelings for Sawyer had gone unrequited for years, and this was catalyst for both her post-college disappearing act and her current hesitation. Once on board with a reunion, the relationship between Sawyer and Gabi quickly escalates from friends to friends-with-benefits to two people with conflicting emotions at odds with each other.
Gabi is convinced that suppressing her emotions and avoiding any talk of a committed relationship is the best way to counteract Sawyer’s resistance. She agrees to a casual relationship in hopes that her patience will be rewarded. Unfortunately, in the process, Gabi tends to be borderline manipulative, which as a reader, I found to be somewhat off-putting.
Obviously, Gabi and Sawyer get their happy ending after some heartache and strife separates them. Sawyer comes to understand that love is not the impetus for heartbreak and unhappiness, as he once mistakenly believed. He realizes how much he wants to share his life with Gabi and how important a role she plays in his life—how she enhances his joy and contributes to everything he does.
Soulmate has a fairly predictable plot, and much like its predecessors in the series, is formulaic in its execution. But, in spite of that, it’s still a highly successful and extremely enjoyable romance romp. Katie McCoy has a tendency to create some of the most charming book boyfriends, and Sawyer is no exception. Ultimately, Soulmate is another solid installment in the Rascals series.
Man, Sawyer is an idiot! This Rascals book tells the story of Sawyer and his college best friend, Gabi, who has moved back to Chicago after five years. She was in love with him way back when, but he had her so strictly in the friend zone, she was invisible as a woman. Her feelings for Sawyer were the reason she left town to begin with, but a job opportunity and her mother’s health brings her back home.
Gabi had no plans to look up Sawyer, but fate stepped in when they ran into each other on the street. It doesn’t take long before they fall back into their old habits, but this time, Sawyer has noticed how much Gabi has grown up. There is a nice lead up to the moment when they first kiss — the build up and the anticipation played into the payoff!
But Sawyer thinks the kiss was a mistake, and especially thinks that sleeping together was a mistake. But Gabi convinces him to go for a friends with benefits relationship, hoping that the commitaphobe will see how good they can be as a couple.
I didn’t like Sawyer’s reasons for not wanting to be in a relationship; his parents were miserably married, so your hurt the one you are supposed to love. And Gabi means too much to him to do that to her. It’s not until he loses Gabi a second time — but this time knowing how amazing they could be as a couple — that he realizes how wrong he’s been. The Grand Gesture to win her back is a pretty good one!
Katie McCoy offers another great standalone in this awesome series with Soulmate. Sometimes your person is right in front of you. And it takes Sawyer losing Gabi twice — and seeing a younger version of themselves — to make that connection.
I loved getting updates on the other couples from this series, and I cannot wait for Dante and Hayley’s story in the final installment!! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Soulmate is the 4th book in the Rascals series, each book in the series can be read as a standalone but each story gives you more pieces of puzzle that is the men of Rascals.
Sawyer and Gabi met in College, the only female friend for the king of one-night stands; she hid her feelings for years deciding that leaving Chicago was the only way to get over him. Now that she is back with her dream job one interaction is all it took to find out she is definitely not over Sawyer; and then an idea to make him see her begins. Sawyer cannot believe it, after standing him up after graduation his best friend is back, it is like no time has passed they fall back into their rhythm except everything has changed, Gabi is this new confident woman who is determined to change their friendship.
I really enjoyed these 2 characters, Gabi needs medal for putting up with Sawyer’s lack of emotional capabilities. Gabi and Sawyer have an easy friendship, they have history they know a lot about each other, their chemistry has been building from the moment they laid eyes on each other again and when they finally kiss, it is beyond anything that they have ever experienced leaving Sawyer in a panic about how he is feeling.
I personally loved this book and I might have wanted to hit Sawyer over the head a few times to make him see how amazing Gabi was. McCoy has given us a fantastic addition to the Rascal’s series and I cannot wait to meet Dante the quiet brooding man in the next Rascal’s installment; Troublemaker.
I can't even begin to tell you how hard I'm loving the Rascals series. Soulmate is book 4 and is everything that I had expected in a storyline with these amazing group of characters. This series is so addictive that when Soulmate landed on my Kindle, I knew that I will want to read this in one sitting which means no sleep for me.
Soulmate is Sawyer's story, he is the furniture builder and also one out of the five bar owners of the group of friends. Sawyer screams "sex in a suit", he is thoughtful when it comes to his friends but guarded when it comes to relationships. He is a master at handling one-night stands but his world turns upside down when his best friend moves back to Chicago.
Gabi has returned home to be close to her mom and to land the job of her dreams. The one thing she does not want to do is run into her best friend, the guy that she had believed she needed to move very far away from to protect her heart. Gabi is strong, intelligent, sexy and weak when it comes to falling for Sawyer.
I really am enjoying this series, Soulmate is a great addition to the Rascal series it's filled with friendships, falling in love and facing fears to get what you want. I enjoyed Gabi and Sawyer's friends to lovers romance and the obstacles they beat to go after what they want. The secondary characters all standout and leave lasting impressions. I'm still dying ... dying I tell you to get to know more about Dante in the final book in the series Troublemaker.
Yay! I always get thrilled when I see a new Katie McCoy book but especially when it’s a new book in the Rascal series! I love friends to lover books… perhaps even more than I love single parent books… and I love single parent books HARD! What makes this Rascal series so fabulous isn’t just the couple we’re reading about, but they are awesome, what makes this series fabulous is everyone. This entire group of friends. I love them. I love how they care for each other and seriously give it to each other seriously straight. It’s what we all want in friends. OK, ok, I know… I’m gushing but I could totally hang with these people! I love them!
Gabi and Sawyer have been friends since college. Gabi’s been totally crushing on Sawyer hard… since their first chat, she just knew she was a goner. The feelings are not returned… or are they?? Gabi decides to leave and takes a break for half a decade and when she returns, she’s bound and determined to stay far far away from Sawyer. But Sawyer has other ideas. This story just flows! McCoy added a bit more sweetness, a bit more angst to this story. I loved it!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
The only thing on Gabi Harris's mind, coming back to back Chicago, is starting her dream job and being closer to her mother. When she finds herself in the arms of Sawyer Landry, her best friend from college. The guy she majorly crushed on all through college, the one she ran from five years ago. Now Gabi wonders if coming back to Chicago was the right choice.
Sawyer was her best friend, and she had to hide her feelings for years. He wasn't and still isn't a relationship kind of guy. Watching him flirting or running off with a new girl every week, broke her little by little. Gabi vowed not get caught up in Sawyer again and get hurt. But while trying to be Sawyer's friend again, those old feelings seem to seep back in no matter how hard she tries to keep them at bay. So Gabi decides it's time to show Sawyer she's not the same girl he knew, she's embraced her body and style and she's ready for him to see whats right in front of him.
Sawyer doesn't do relationships, nothing more than one night. He has his bar that he runs with his best friends, Rascals and his furniture business. When his best friend from college crashes into his arms, Sawyer's eyes are opened for the first time in years. Gabi has blossomed since he last saw her, gone is the tomboy, and in front of him is a beautiful women, full of curves and a new confidence.
Sawyer was blind to Gabi five years ago, but now, with every flirty glance and confident stride, Sawyer finds it harder and harder not to give in and keep Gabi in the friend zone. He doesn't want to loose her, again. He can't risk it, his heart, her heart. Wanting more and then ruining them, forever. But if he doesn't face whats between them head on, he could still loose her.
This friends to lovers romance has it all. Soulmate is the perfect blend of sassy and charming characters, humorous and swoon-worthy moments, lots of sexiness, and a great group of friends. Walking into Rascals and getting to experience Sawyer and Gabi's complex, flirty, special bond is a great time. I love this series and how each guy is so different and fun to read. Katie McCoy writes one entertaining and fast paced series. Romance, a smidge of angst, sexy bar owners, who are all great book boyfriend material. And a awesome group of women, these guys can't help but fall head over heels for.
Bring on the final Rascal!

We’re on the home straight now with SoulMate by Katie McCoy which is book four of five of the ‘Rascals’ series and it just keeps getting better and better! It’s Sawyer’s turn to find love at the bar and it’s not with an old fling, but a girl he was once best friends with in college. Gabi was the one girl he could always talk to and trust, but then after graduation she just left town and he never saw or heard from her again.
Gabi fell for Sawyer almost from the moment they met, it might have been lust at first, but since she’s returned to Chicago and met up with him again, all those feelings have morphed into something more. Only trouble is… she can’t tell commitment-phobe Sawyer, just like she couldn’t tell him how she felt when they were in college. She knew what would happen. Sawyer can’t believe he’s got his best friend back, but he’s worried because he’s not feeling remotely ‘friendly’ towards Gabi anymore and try as he might to fight the desire surging through his veins, it’s futile. But, can he realize what he’s truly feeling before he makes a mistake they can’t step back from??
Aaah, this book was so much fun to read, I just couldn’t put it down. I loved Sawyer, even if he was so clueless of Gabi’s feelings for him. Thankfully he got his head on straight in time. This story has upped the ante for Haley and Dante’s book and I sooo can’t wait. The best is definitely going to be kept for the last. Mark my words!
Having read the previous three books in the series, I was thrilled when Soulmate, book four hit my kindle. This is Sawyers story and although it easily reads as a standalone story, I was secretly pleased that I fully up to speed with the rest of the series. So, what do I have to say about this book, well rather a lot but I must temper what I want to say with what you need to hear because I really don’t want to give away any spoilers, because you need to enjoy this for yourself. Anyway, what can I say, well I feel this is best described as a second chance romance. Both Sawyer and Gabi were as close as you could possibly be without being physically involved, they were the very best of friends and whilst Gabi may have hoped for more, she knew that Sawyer had no inkling or desire to be anything other than friends…his aversion to relationships putting paid to them ever having anything more…so she did what she had to do …she left. Leap forward five years and she is back in town and the old friends have a decision to make…do they keep their distance and leave things as they have always been or do they both rip up their rule books and take a chance on where their feelings are ready to take them? I loved Sawyer, yes, he was a stick in the mud at times but darn it he was a good guy, Gabi was the woman for him, but getting him to see that was never going to be straight forward…I just hadn’t anticipated that it would take him years to get with the program!
