Montana Guardian

Rate this book
Van Wheeler was an elite team leader of Guardian's Sierra Team. He'd fought in wars, survived firefights in forsaken hell-holes and moved like a ghost in foreign countries. His team performed missions flawlessly. He'd never regretted an assignment, until he met her. The sweet, brilliant code breaker who'd devastated not only the enemy’s communication cyphers, but also his heart. For Cassie Valentine, life was anything but hearts and chocolates--starvation and physical abuse at the hands of her father and uncle was the norm. Her intellectual genius at solving code brought her to the attention of Guardian and a man who showed her what life could have been like. A cruel glimpse at happiness that she could never obtain. Compelled by a threat to her mother, Cassie returned to the shack in the Bitterroot Mountains. Without a word, she vanished, leaving Van Wheeler, the man who loved her, to forever wonder why she'd left.A year later, battered, broken, and protecting her child, she fled her family's cabin at the top of the Bitterroot Mountains. Cassie knew she and her tiny son would share the fate of her dead mother if she didn't escape. On foot and ill-prepared, she set out into the wilderness of mountainous Montana, unaware that fate, in the form of a Guardian, was about to intervene.

Another great book, even though the actual Kings of Guardian do not make more then a cameo in this book. This is a great short story. I am sure the their is a link to the main story line in here. Could be a puzzle.

Kris Michaels has a knack of getting me to really care about her characters, no matter the length of the book. This one is no different even though I have read of one of the characters as a cameo in another book. Van' s is a great story. It was the the short story I needed right now.

There are some disturbing themes of abuse in this book. I think they were necessary for the story, but we also see the Kings will bend a couple of rules to help their friends. Great quick read to be enjoyed as a stand alone or part of the series.

As always, love Kris Michaels’ books so much!
Van and Cassie’s book was beautiful and so emotional. Van was a true Alpha male and loved him
So much.
Cassie has been through so much. I wanted to hug her.
If you love protective Alpha males with a little suspense, you’ll have to read Kris Michaels’ books.
Love this book so much.

I really enjoyed this short visit with the Guardian crew. However, I was disappointed that we did not see the arrest of Cassie’s father. How a man can let his brother beat and abuse his own daughter, is beyond me. I really would have liked to see Van, or at the very least Travis, take on her father. He deserved to be beaten as much as, if not more, than his brother. I hope we get to see more of Van, Cassie, and little Samuel in future reads.

Haven't read the first 10 books, but this one was a stand alone. There were some very outrageous thoughts going on. Cassie and Van had chemistry. Van has a great team and there are lots of stories there to be told.

I simultaneously love and hate this book

My heart breaks for Cassie and the brutal abuse she suffers, the loss/loss decisions she has had to make and the hope she has lost.
Had she had more real life experience she would have had the strength and the faith to confide in Van, and they both would have had a very different year.
I am so glad Van is so good at reading situations and very quickly realises just how much Cassie has been through and he swallows the pain and anger.....very suddenly and very starkly everything falls into place for him and her actions from a year ago become a moot point. His only focus is Cassie and Samuel and moving forward as a family. Swoon.
I cried buckets of tears reading this and have never been so glad a book was a novella!
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Every Guardian book has been a brilliant read and this one, although only a novella still lives up to the extremely high standard. Read the first paragraph and I was hooked, did not put it down till I read the last line. There is danger, there is abuse, there is love and there is family - one of the best series ever by one of the best authors ever

💋💋

Van and Cassie’s book is strong and emotional, it’s pretty graphic and includes violence in a domestic relationship, so be warned.

I found it to be well worth the read as are all Kris’s books .

Van Wheeler is the team leader of the Sierra Team of Guardian Security. He has been dispatched by Jewell King to find a woman whom he fell in love with while on a 3-month mission in Kasmir. She disappeared when the got back to the states and he was stonewalled at every turn when he tried to find her. He hasn't forgotten her but he wonders why he was chosen for this mission. He didn't want to go add that to the fact that his whole team wasn't going. He was only allowed to take one other team member on this mission.

Cassie Valentine is "the Puzzle Master" and she had done some freelance work for Guardian before her last mission, the one where she met and fell in love with Van. She is stuck in the Bitterroot Mountains with her father and her uncle and her life is a living hell. She needs to escape with her infant son sooner rather than later. Luckily spending three months with Van and his men taught her something of survival and it gave her the courage to leave.

Just as she is beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, her uncle catches up to her but she has a guardian angel out there protecting her.

The was a fast read as it is only a novella. The story is good and it left me wanting to know more about what Cassie did for Guardian. I wondered if she could help in their fight against the Fates. I know there will be more stores to come as that problem has not been solved. This is a good start to a new series spin-off for Kinds of Guardian I hope.

This really is a heart-felt read. Loved it. Just greedy me wanted more!!

On a re-read 02/11/20... Still have exactly the same sentiments. This is really well told... and the intelligent part of me understands that this is a novella... but the part of me who just really did love this still wants more!! Sighs. Ah well... I will just have to make up more to the tale in my head!

Still feel the same... love Van and Cassie. Could've easily have read a full length novel with them!

This wasn't a bad book, it wasn't one of my favorites either.
This short novella featuring Van and Cassie is a nice short read. Van was on a mission that Cassie was brought in as a master code breaker. Sparks flew and Van was in love but Cassie disappeared as soon as they returned to the US, leaving Van wondering what he did wrong. Now a year later, their paths cross again but Cassie is in a precarious situation deep within the mountains, with (surprise!) a baby (Van's baby) that he didn't know about.

The thing that really got me with this book that made NO sense to me. Cassie is a brilliant hacker who lives in an abusive household at the hands of her uncle and father. First, WHY wasn't her dad also arrested? It says he was, but we didn't get to see that. Two, if Cassie is such a brilliant hacker, then WHYYYYY doesn't she try to use her phone or some way to get away from her father and uncle after returning from her mission with Van..? If they were so 'in love' why didn't she confide in him?! I know she keeps saying its because she needed to keep her mom safe, but come on.
I feel like there was a lot of action that happened in this book, and boom, right after Cassie was rescued, flash forward to 4 months later, everything is hunky dory and her and Van are together, and her uncle and father are sent away to prison. I guess I just wish this story would have been a little more in depth instead of skimming over the surface of some really big dramatic/action packed things that happened. I wish Cassie would have gotten the help she needed sooner, but I loved Van's character and how he was protective and got Cassie to trust in him again after all the stuff she had been through.

Sweet, romantic, quick read

Montana Guardian is a forced-proximity/separated read from Kris Michaels. I quickly fell in love with Van Wheeler and Cassie Valentine. It was great to watch this very alpha protector take care of a shy young woman. Even broken hearted, Van is patient and understanding when dealing with the shock of seeing Cassie again. For me, it’s always interesting to read about supporting characters.

A Montana Guardian can be read as a stand alone. Although, it is suggested as the 13th book to read if following the book order. Although previous characters make appearances, the author gives a brief introduction to provide continuity. I love the immersing myself in the many works of Kris Michaels!

Montana Guardian is Book #10.5 (novella) in the Kings of Guardian series by Kris Michaels. It is a perfect mix of action, romance, and family drama that was so easy to get hooked on. Each book spotlights a different member of the King ‘family’ - the elite operatives working for Guardian Security - so you get a fresh story every time, but with plenty of familiar faces popping in along the way.
The plots are fast-moving, with everything from high-risk rescues to international missions, but what really makes the series stand out is the loyalty, teasing banter, and the intense, heartfelt romances which gives all the action so much more depth.
If you like romantic suspense, military romance, or strong law enforcement vibes, intriguing characters, and a sense of found family, then this series is definitely worth diving into. It’s exciting, emotional, and just the right amount of addictive.
Happy Reading…

Guardian romance

No plot spoilers
There are some potential triggers relating to physical abuse against a woman
The characterisation isn't the best from the world of Kris Michaels and Guardian, but as a short story it's more than engaging enough to keep you turning the pages.
The plotline is fast paced and concerned primarily with the lead characters, a more in depth involvement from Guardian characters would have enhanced the story and satisfied my King fix, but again, as a short story/novella it could only have so much involvement before the Kings outshone the lead characters.
There are some sex scenes and some swearing.
As an addition to the realm of Guardian it's a nice way to catch up with them.
I totally recommend you read the Guardian series from the beginning to get the best reading experience.

a wider Guardian novella

This is story set in the wider world of Guardian security. Cassie has a fantastic ability to solve codes ,although she is employ Guardian from time to time she lives with her parents and uncle off the grid up a mountain where she is physically and mentally abused. She and Van and his team are sent on an op where she and V@nn fall for each other. On their return she realises she is pregnant but thinks Van does not want a family so skips out on him and returns to her family leaving him with no idea of her situation. She returns to the abusive situation that is now even worse and Van is devastated.
Unbeknownst to either of them they have a guardian Angel in Jewel who arranges for Van to go and see Cassie to give her a message.
This is a short story with lots of action and emotion.

I borrowed Montana Guardian ~ Kings of Guardian ~ Book 10.5, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.

Van Wheeler the Skipper of Sierra Team is called for a two man mission in the Bittersweet Mountains of Montana ans hw takes Travis Coleman, his XO and best friend. They are to locate Cassie Valentine, give her a message and bring her back to DC to Jewell King.

She is on top of a mountain in the Bittersweet Range in Montana. The guys had done a mission with her the year before and she disappeared right after the mission. Van was in love with her and deeply hurt.

Van finds her with her baby, Samuel just as her abusive Uncle tries to murder her and leave the baby to the wolves. Van rescues her and Samuel; her Uncle and Father are arrested and convicted. By the end of the story Van and Cassie have found their happy ever after together. Loved the ending!

Another great read.

No spoilers
I liked this a lot, as I do all of Kris Michaels books. This focused on Van, the leader of Sierra team and a woman he worked with in Afghanistan, Cassie, who loved and then left him after their mission.
The characters are great and the only ones from previous Guardian novels
are Jewell, Doctor Adam and Jason. They have very minor parts.
Why four stars if I liked it so much? I wanted to know more, I'd like to have read details of the op in Afghanistan, Cassies return home and more of the events there. However the author obviously felt it wasn't a full novel to her.
It is however worth buying. I loved it. Read the authors warnings before reading it yourself as it does contain some issues that readers might not be able to deal with.

MOVING HEARTWARMING BOOK!😁

What a lovely, heartwarming and suspenseful story. I have to say that this story sometimes had me in tears because of some of the things that happened to Cassie .....it seemed so real and I am sure there are women who live precisely that kind of abusive life. Van was a wonderful man... I loved everything about him. What a nice, kind, loyal and sweet man he was! The whole story was beautifully written. It was short but powerful. I enjoyed Jewell's participation; the clever way the story took us to the past; and the Guardian organization stepping up to the plate to help Van and Cassie. When their helicopter arrived it was like family had come to help! I love this series... It is excellent and I highly recommend each and every book!!!!🤗

Good.

This in-between novella featuring Van and Cassie is certainly not essential to the Guardian World but it is worth checking out. The premise is that a year ago, whilst Van was on a mission, Cassie was brought in as a master code breaker. Sparks flew and Van was in love but Cassie disappeared as soon as they returned to the US, leaving a van wondering what he did wrong. Now a year later, their paths cross again but Cassie is in a precarious situation.

This was a lovely novella however, 3-alert content warning for severe domestic violence, severe physical and emotional abuse, trauma and attempted child abuse. If any of these things may be triggering to you, you should definitely skip this one- it’s not essential to the series.

Montana Guardian is a novella in the Kings of Guardian series. 4.5 Stars

I liked both of the lead characters Van and Cassie and I enjoyed how their story came together. Van’s heart was shattered whenever Cassie left him, and he received a major shock when he saw her again. Her dad and uncle were terrible and I wanted to see them suffer. I was glad that Van’s initial reaction wasn’t negative and he allowed Cassie to explain.

My only complaint was the secret. I’m not a fan of that particular storyline, and I always feel like BOTH people should know. If the man leaves, he leaves. However, he should be told and allowed the opportunity to make the decision.

This book can be read without having read the entire series.

Operative Van Wheeler did forget shy code breaker Cassie Valentine or what they shared about a year ago. Now that the wounds are starting to heal, he’s torn about his feelings when he’s personally assigned to go to her Bitterroot Mountain home and deliver a message that she’s needed.

Cassie returned home to protect her mom after her last guardian assignment but a lot has happened since. Her mom has died, her father disowned her and her uncle’s mental, physical and emotional abuse reaches new limits daily. Desperation and fear help Cassie choose to do what she can to make a new start. Van hears a cry that first stops in him in his tracs then has him rushing to locate its source. He finds Cassie cowering from her uncle!

Surprise baby is one of my favorite kind of reads

I love a good surprise baby story and this one is very good. Van and Cassie worked together about a year ago and fell in love but never told each other how they felt. When they got back to the States, she disappears without saying goodbye and Van is heartbroken and angry and doesn't know why. She goes back to the mountains where her family is knowing she is pregnant. Jewell send Van to find her and bring her back but doesn't tell him why. What will he find and how does she react to him? Will he be able to get her to leave with him and trust him? What happened to her mom? Who was abusing her and what happens when Van find them?

I read this novella in a couple of hours, it's short and to the point.

In this standalone novella we get another glimpse into the preeminent organization, Guardian Security, and an introduction into the uncharted territory of Sierra Team.

Sierra Team Leader, Van Wheeler and Cassie Valentine have history and a meddlesome, high ranking Guardian principle wants to make sure they get a much needed nudge toward their destiny. Gotta love the bada$$ women in this series.

If I had one complaint it would be that this one was way too short, but fear not, "The End, For Now" was the good news. I sense there's much more to come from Guardian's Sierra Team.

An enchanting lovestory

This book shone a light on the dark issues of domestic violence and abuse. Poor Cassie was trapped in an impossible situation, if she left her mum would be punished if she stayed she risked being killed. Love, family and trust were all tough to recognise in others but on a mission she fell for the Sierra "Skipper". But even he couldn't save her she had to return to her torturers.

All the characters are well written and the setting are so thoroughly described that you can visualise it. I simply love the attention to detail that kris puts into every book, she always manages to enthrall her readers.

Van works for Guardian as the Skipper for the Sierra team. Cassie is brought in to help Guardian with some decoding. She helped the team for 3 months. Her and Van got really close and when they got back she vanished.
Van was hurt very bad when Cassie just disappeared and no one would help him find her.
Cassie has lived with abuse her whole life. She knew if she didn't return right away, her mother would pay for it. She just didn't expect the surprise she brought back with her.
Van and Travis are sent to bring Cassie into Guardian. Van doesn't want to see her but orders are orders.
Will he find her safely? Will he let her explain?

Montana Guardian

WOW! This is truly a heartbreaking story! This story is about Van and Cassie. They basically love in love with each other on their one mission together but Cassie needed to get back to save her mother but her uncle pretty much killed her and Cassie needed to save herself and her baby. Van came to her rescue but not before she went to all kinds of abuse. Her father was no help at all when her uncle abused her. Now they both are no longer a threat to her and her baby. They started working on their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Kris! I would recommend this book!

Destiny at its finest

Van knew he loved Cassie and never understood why she left without a word. She was in his heart and it took a mission to retrieve a much needed Guardian asset for him to understand....
Cassie left thinking he didn’t want a future and when she discovers she carries a new and precious life that becomes her focus. Cassie does everything she can to protect her son and when she gets the chance to escape...she runs into her destiny...
Kris Michaels does a wonderful job with this story. Lots of action and great pace. Must read this one!

Another fantastic book written by Kris. This one was a novella (wish it had been longer) and is the story between Van who works for Guardian Security and Cassie who did freelance work for Guardian as a decoder. They meet fell in love and then Cassie disappears and that's where the story begins. Make sure you have plenty of tissues because this story will make you cry before you smile. A brilliant hea stand alone story, a must read for those who love romance from a master story teller.

I love this author and while this is a great read, it just feels like it is missing something. To me it was like reading the second book of a trilogy. Enough information is supplied to let you know what happened in book one but ends before a definite conclusion (it's more of a HFN ending). Our hero is set upon a collision course with our heroine by a devious King and the story ensues. A fast paced piece with a touch of humor, a large dash of drama, and a smidgen of action (let's not forget the rumblings of a very large mountain). A recommended read for every Kris Michaels fan.

Finding his true love after a year has passed, Van finds Cassie in the mountains he was searching for her in, finding her with a baby, battered and beaten, a large man standing over her unconscious body while the baby is crying, shoot first and ask questions later, good things come to those that wait, well kinda, epic love story for the times, waiting patiently for her to trust him again and realize he's not going to hurt her or his son, named after his grandfather, totally recommend the Kings of guardian series, thank you, Dana Zamora
