Two of Emma Jameson's best mysteries, now in one volume! If you haven't tried these romantic, witty cozies, DEADLY DUET is the perfect place to start.
Lord Anthony Hetheridge, a legend at Scotland Yard, has just married Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield. The newlyweds couldn't be more different. Tony Hetheridge is sixty, blue-blooded, and the perfect English gentleman sleuth. Bold, blonde Kate is thirty-three, working class, and modern London to the bone. Falling in love with Kate turned Lord Hetheridge's life upside down, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
In BLACK & BLUE, Tony, Kate, and DS Deepal "Paul" Bhar take on the death of a widely-hated art dealer. Was it counterfeits that brought him down, or drug smuggling, or his parade of scorned women?
In BLUE BLOODED, Tony, and Kate, and Paul face perhaps their greatest challenge when the fiendish Sir Duncan Godington returns, bent on revenge.
I so enjoy all the Lord & Lady Hetheridge novels. Lord Hetheridge is adorable. All the characters are charming, even the bad guy. Can't wait for another.
Emma James is a superb writer of British mysteries, and both of these books from "The Blues" series are great reads to savor and enjoy. The author has pulled together stories involving Lord and Lady Hetherige, but they are not stuffy 19th century characters. The couple are modern and "with it" urbanites from families with age old problems, yet the author gives them wit and charm along with a drive to use their skills in bringing scoundrels to justice. The two stories are entertaining and related. The characters are very unique and memorable. The author injects laugh out loud humor along with realistic scenarios of danger and suspense that make it hard to put down- not your typical British mysteries!
I loved both these books although I do have a problem with May and September couples (one partner some 30yrs younger than the other) but as the intimate details were left to the imagination I found I could just ignore those bits.
The books could be read as stand alone novels but were better for being read together. There was lots of tension and plenty of off beat characters. The story lines were both topical and interesting. This is the third book in this series that I have read and I can honestly say that all have been intriguing and have held my interest to the end.
Something for everyone, murder, love, crazy, family...
These two books each have their hard parts to read. Sometimes one has to set the book down and breathe. However, the tenderness and the family, warts and all make up for the horribleness of some of the human race. The Heathridge family and the Scotland Yard “family” are a nice counterpoint to balance home and work and where they clash. Can’t wait for the next book!
Great list of well presented characters and plot twists galore. The descriptions of the English gentry , the main characters' lifestyles and the melding of gentry to down to earth police officers was brilliantly done. Look forward now to going back to read books 1 through 3, having just finished books 4 and 5, having bought the two together (great deal) just to see if I'd enjoy a new set of English detectives. Did so.
Hard to rate - the first of this duet of stories was ?? a comedic introduction to the main characters?? Awful! Actually race insensitive in its portrayal of an Indian ancestry British cop and his very odd mother.
However the 2nd book was better for passing the time, if not exactly literature. I won't be continuing with the series however.
Thoroughly enjoyed Black and Blue. Blue Blooded not as strong as the others in the series. But I do like the unusual characters and hope the author continues. For newbies: the books are best read in order. There is considerable character development and things fit together like puzzle pieces.
I enjoyed these books for the most part. However, they were not always easy to follow. They were also a little too cheesy for my taste. But compared to the trash that is out there, I think they were pretty good reads.
interesting from the beginning as Jameson starts in the middle of lives and then builds the mystery around them. The prepetrator is revealed 2/3 of the way through but the denoument is still heart pounding!
My new favorite author. I've now read 4 books featuring Lord and Lady Hetheridge and enjoyed them all: mystery, romance, intricacies of peerage/commoner relationship, family interaction, grisly but acceptable amount, and ending perfect.
I really love a book that draws one in so quickly! Just mentioned to my Hubby how a person can actually be transported to the location of where they are I live in boring Florida, lol! Great 👍 read!
Read this during the pandemic quarantine. Recommended it for all of those who are reacquainting themselves with solitary living. without the outside world
I think the thing I enjoyed most was the human messiness of it all. Also the clearly evilness of the bad guy and the satisfactory way he was dealt with
Likable, believable characters intertwining work and daily life’s with human foibles and family squabbles. Add menacing bad guys and it makes for a fun read.
Tony and Kate are back from their honeymoon and ready to get to work. Unfortunately, Tony is about to have his world turned upside down. At the same time Sir Duncan is causing trouble again. Can Tony, Kate and Paul beat the clock and Sir Duncan or not.
Just read the last two books in order from the Lord and Lady Hetheridge series and found them to be excellent, I can't wait for the next instalment to see where the author is going to go now with the death of Sir Duncan Godington. D Good to see that both Kate and Paul are now Detective Inspectors so it will be interesting to see where they both are next time.
