This is an early Toni Anderson and, my how much this author has grown as a writer. I loved the basic plot, but this book could have greatly benefited from the firm hand of a competent editor or a caring beta reader. The prologue grabbed me. I felt devastated right alone with the hero, Ben. I fully understood his rage and sorrow. When the plot moved to Scotland and the pursuit of his suspect, it got mired in the morass of his sexual attraction to his prime suspect, Sorcha, his feelings of betrayal for that attraction and how he is fighting that unwanted attraction. I get it. I don't have to be told every dozen pages or so all about it. This is one of the most annoying things an author can do. Fortunately, that didn't distract from a really great paranormal suspense plot and the final action scenes were terrific.

Doctoral candidate, Sorcha Logan, has returned to her hometown on the rugged coast of Scotland after fifteen years away to lay to rest her father's ghost and find some peace. On the heels of her arrival she finds a body in the pounding surf and her past is replaying itself. The town believes her a witch and with the voices in her head and visions of her dead father she wonders, perhaps, if she could be a little mad.

American DEA Agent, Ben Foley, is following the only evidence he has in the the death of his friend and partner at the hands of a Colombian drug lord. The trail leads him to Scotland and Sorcha, but the sexual attraction he feels on meeting her is totally at odds with what his goal is: Nail this woman for the drug runner that got his friend killed.

The second book in the East Coast of Scotland series by Toni Anderson. Ben Foley is a DEA agent who has come to Scotland to find the person responsible for the phone call that caused his friend's death. Records show that the call came from Sorcha Logan's home. Sorcha has returned to Scotland after being gone for years. After her father's death 15 years ago she was sent away. So anyway, Ben is stalking Sorcha to see if she is the bad guy and Sorcha is just trying to get on with her studies but someone is making it difficult.

I've had this e-book on my Kindle for a while and didn't realize I hadn't read it. Now I have. Another really good book by Ms. Anderson!

This was a bit weird for me - there was so much going on and I honestly didn't love the heroine all that much. She was either scared, freaking out and blocking the ghosts trying to help her. I also thought Ben being so set on Sorcha being the drug dealer and all the conclusions he jumped to were crazy. He really didn't have much to base on it but just keep believing it (well at first - I admit as the book went on there were definitely some things that would make her a suspect). The setting was awesome.

Storm Warning is another great book by Toni Anderson. It is book two in The East Coast of Scotland Series, abut although Ewan and Nick, from book one (Sea of Suspicion), make brief appearances here and there, there's no real sequence and Storm Warning can be perfectly read as a stand-alone.

Even though the paranormal side of the plot seemed a weird at first, Storm Warning is just as good, or even slightly better than book one. The suspense is strong (at one point I had so many possible suspects it was a bit disconcerting), which means that once you start reading Storm Warning you won't be able to stop.

I loved the fact that Ben manages to tame his worst fear in order to try to save Sorcha (not that she really needed saving, but it was a beautiful gesture anyway), but I resented the fact that she never realized he had already risked his life to save her before by stealing her car (no spoilers, you have to read it). In addition to that, there were several details left unresolved at the end that could at least have been clarified.

Still, if you love romantic suspense, this one is for you. Recommended.

This was the first Toni Anderson book I’ve read, and it definitely wont be the last! Im not a huge fan of paranormal type suspense novels because they tend to be very, over the top cheesy and unbelievable, but this one was so well written that it’s motivated me to give this genre another chance…

What it had:
-dreary, creepy setting that set the mood for suspense
-Plenty of suspense
-Damsel in distress
-ghostly apparitions, voices, etc
-VERY well written spicy scenes (no tropes, just plain ol boy screws girl)
-a few pink herrings (I wont call them red herrings, because they were subtle enough that you still think you have it figured out, even if they make you question yourself just a little)
-Well written characters with the perfect amount of backstory. It really bugs me when an author spends too much time giving us every detail of the character’s lives, to the point that it gets monotonous and boring, so I appreciated that.
-multiple POVs. Normally, I don’t care for that, (most times they all just blur together & you’re never sure who’s POV you’re reading) but TA did a wonderful job of keeping it clear and letting it add to the story, rather than attempting to use it as a cheap trick to build fake suspense & mislead the reader)
-Speaking of POVS, this is the first book I’ve read in a long time that didn’t over use internal monologues to fill pages. I wish I could give it 10 stars just for that alone & I really feel like sending this book to a few of my former favorite authors who have fallen into this terrible habit. It’s such a crutch, & honestly feels like lazy writing, they couldn’t think of anything better to add, so they just regurgitate the same thought over and over again.

Overall, I would 100% recommend this book!!!

My only complaint was when she gave all the money away to charity. Even with all the ghosts and paranormal stuff, that was the most unbelievable & cheesy part of this entire plot. Like, why would someone struggling with money, just give it all away? I can see maybe donating some of it, paying off her student loans,etc, then donating the rest, but ALL of it??? Come on *eye roll* And it wasn’t even drug money, so she didn’t have to feel guilty about keeping it. It just didn’t make sense to me. At the very least, if she had donated it to a marine bird conservation effort of something along those lines, I could have gotten behind that, it would fit, with that being her focus of research, ie passion, but a drug addiction center just felt like a reach.

Sorcha Logan returns home to the small coastal town of Anstruther, Scotland to complete her Ph.D., but when she stumbles across a body in the surf, the ghosts of her past return to haunt her. DEA Agent Ben Foley has come to Scotland to find the person responsible for the torture and death of his partner, and Sorcha is his prime suspect. As Sorcha and Ben fight their attraction to one another, a malicious killer is determined to remove the threat they pose.

Series note: This is book #2 but can be read as a standalone as characters from book #1 only make cameo appearances, and the mysteries are unrelated.

This is an excellent mix of suspense and romance. The only caveat is that the paranormal elements are completely unnecessary and actually undermine the story.

Ben and Sorcha's love-hate relationship is intense, and they have sizzling chemistry. Anderson's portrayal of Ben's conflicted emotions concerning his involvement with a suspect is realistic, and she manages to make their romance believable. This is unlike the couple in book #1, whose HEA was less credible.

The murder investigation has several intertwining threads including the death of Sorcha's late father 15 years prior, and the current attacks on Sorcha. The villain's POV is particularly disturbing as they are evil in every sense of the word. While it is possible to guess their identity by following the clues, the climax and resolution are, nevertheless, action-packed and thrilling.

In sum, an excellent romance and a gripping thriller, but it would have been even better without the psychic abilities and ghosts, which added nothing to the characterization or the plot.

He begins to see she can't be in the cartel.He is beginning to fall in love with her.Sorcha,having been betrayed before,tries not to,but she is falling in love with Ben also.Can Ben,figure not what is going on in time to save Sorcha and their fragile sparks of love?This is a fast paced,action packed,story of family betrayal,lost,buried secrets and holding on to true love. I would recommend especially if you enjoy a good, whodunit story with lots of twists and turns. Off the coast of Scotland, dead bodies are washing up, there is a drug smuggling ring wreaking havoc on the town, and a young woman is seeing ghosts while a DEA agent is trying to get enough dirt on her to arrest her as the drug ring's queen.

BUT Sorcha isn't the head of drug ring's operation even tho all clues point her way. Someone else is behind it and wants her dead. The American DEA agent, Ben, is trying to avenge his friend and partner's death by investigating Sorcha but the mutual attraction between the "witch" and the agent is getting in the way.

There's hot sex, car bombs, hidden journals, and a ghostly dad walking the beach.. It's an entertaining suspense novel.

I found it just a bit too predictable tho. I knew about 40 percent into the story whodunit. I also got tired of Ben constantly saving Sorcha. Sorcha gets herself into all kinds of messes and every time without fail, here comes Ben to the rescue. (In all fairness tho, Sorcha did save his arse once.) Another thing I didn't like: All the men are either trying to kill Sorcha or making lewd advances on her.

Still a good read tho and I do recommend it to anyone who just wants to sit down with a suspense, thriller novel. I would read more by this author.

From the first chapter, I felt Sorcha Logan’s pull and her uncertainty of what was happening. I wanted to reach out to her.

Ben Foley needed some answers and he believed Sorcha held the answers he needed. Looking for the killer of his best friend, he finds himself immersed into something far more dangerous.

Ben and Sorcha have an amazing connection, but is it enough to save them from the evil coming their way? Is it enough for them to build a life together on?

I am so excited about this book! The plot of the story blew me away! Toni Anderson’s Storm Warning grabs you up and holds you with its intensity, mystery and suspense. Not everything is what it seems. Trust no one or is it trust the one you least expect to be innocent?

In addition, the secondary character’s have such chemistry. Ms. Anderson what drove you to write such an intense story? Will we see more from these characters because I feel that there is more to the story?

Wow, what a fantastic novel! It is easily one of my most favorite reads this year. Not only did I love the contemporary atmospheric, blustery Scotland setting, but also the characters. Sorcha is fascinating, unusual and incredibly likable. It was easy to relate to her inability to fit in. The hero, Ben, is very heroic and oh so hot and sexy. I loved their personalities and the way they interacted. Their vulnerabilities made them real and very likable. The mystery and suspense was fabulous and kept the story a page turner throughout. I can’t want to read more from Toni Anderson! Highly recommended!

I like Toni Anderson's style of writing. I liked the story and, in general, enjoyed the suspense plot.

The character Sorcha was aggravating after awhile because her near constant state of hysteria became hard to believe. Her naivete about her relatives seemed a bit excessive too and I couldn't believe that even at the end of the book she wanted to believe in Angus and Robbie. Her forbearance with her obnoxious roommate grated on me too. Basically, I don't like it when character is a total doormat.

I thought it was a good mystery. The denouement took a bit long, but I liked the emotional journey of the leads. It was much better written than the traditional romance books and for that I am grateful, although the lead was a bit too perfect, but that's something inherent of the genre not relegated to this book alone. And for once, someone did her research and figured out how to spell Spanish correctly in a book! That alone made my day.

This time around though someone else is standing by her and helps her with the nightmare. Or does he? Ben Foley is on a mission to find a killer. The killer that took his partner and almost got him killed too. Now as the bodies start to appear everywhere, it is up to him to uncover the truth surrounding the mysterious woman who the townsfolk call a witch and who has certainly bewitched him. However, deciding between the truth and myth can be difficult when ghosts and curses are par for the course in this small coastal town... Toni Anderson laces murder, mystery, and the mystical in this romantic suspense tale of intrigue, love, redemption, and crime. When Ben Foley sets out to find the murderer of his partner he didn't expect to uncover so much more in the coast of Scotland. Falling for the beautiful object of his investigation was definitely far from his objectives. Still, Sorcha intrigued him and the mystery around her only drew him closer. A perfect Toni Anderson story to be savored to the fullest with the best Scottish brogue.

I borrowed a digital copy of Storm Warning from my library . This is a fantastic story . I really enjoyed reading this story . Ben Foley is an undercover American DEA agent . He's investigating the death of his partner . It leads him to a small town in Scotland . Sorcha Logan is back in her home town . She was sent away when she was young ,after she found her father's body . Some accused her of being a witch . Ben suspects Sorcha is some how involved in drug smuggling and caused his partners death . Little does he realize she's innocent and very much in danger . Their attraction and feelings get involved and danger mounts . This story is full of suspense, intrigue and action packed . It's as psychic powers and ghosts . It's very well written .
I highly recommend reading .

Hidden in plain sight

This is an interesting crime story with a paranormal component. The family history is strong, but full of questions, secrets and wrongs. The story takes place on the same island as the first book, but except for a few mentions of Nick and one of Susie, the story focuses on a different group of characters and crimes. The ending was strong and had some great but predictable moments. I enjoyed the story but it did jump around more than the first book. I liked the paranormal addition and characters!

Terrible book. I did not like either Sorcha or Ben. The whole story was convoluted. Ben goes to Scotland because he is sure that Sorcha deals in drugs because a phone call came from her house. Duh! There are 3 people living in her house. Anyone can make a call.

If she sells drugs, where is the money? She doesn't own a car and what does she spend it on?

I wanted to read the book because of the Scottish locale. However, this will be the only book in the series that I will read. Waste of time.

Loved it! The romance, the suspense, the mystery, the characters, and the storytelling through three different characters made this book a wonderful and unique reading experience. I did guess half-way through the book who the evil narrator was, but was still surprised about many of the conclusions, and I did read the book a second time so that I could fully comprehend what all had taken place. The novel is short but very entertaining. I will definitely read more from Toni Anderson!

I am proud to say I’ve now read all of Toni books. “Storm Warning” was amazing. I love stories set in places other than the US. I feel as though I’m learning a little bit each time I read one of her books and this one didn’t fail. The story of Sorcha and Ben felt real. And the final scene kept me on tenterhooks. I highly recommend any of her novels. You won’t be disappointed.

Spirits

Great book by Toni Anderson. I've read many of her books and have yet to be disappointed.This is of a Scottish scientist with psychi abilities and a DEA agent searching for drug runners that caused his partners death. Oh, and a "sizzling" chemistry between the two.

In a small coastal town of Scotland, there are more secrets and darkness than there first appears...

Sorcha has come home again, many years after she left at the age of 10 after her father died. She is hoping to find peace and move on with her life after a disasterous relationship. This is not going to be easy to do though, since Sorcha is hearing voices and seeing her dead father's ghost. She doesn't know why, just that it's getting harder and harder to cope with. And peace is even harder to find when someone considers Sorcha's return a threat...and will stop at nothing to get rid of her.

Ben is an American DEA undercover in Scotland, determined to find out who was responsible for leaking his partner's status to a drug cartel...resulting in his death. All leads point to Sorcha as being involved, and Ben will do whatever it takes to get justice for his partner. Ben becomes closer to Sorcha in an attempt to find out her secrets...but does she really have any? Between dead bodies, threats to Sorcha, a near drowning, and drugs found in the lighthouse on the island Sorcha is working on, Ben doesn't know what to think. He has a harder and harder time maintaining an emotional distance from Sorcha though.

Sorcha is drawn to the American, "No doubt about it, there was something intriguing about the man. The dangerous quality counteracted by a sexy smile she didn't trust." As she spends more and more time with Ben, she finds herself beginning to care about him in ways she didn't want to feel for someone again. She finds Ben to be warm and caring one moment, then distant and cold the next...Sorcha doesn't know what is going on with Ben. After a night where they lose themselves in each other and Ben decides it's a mistake, Sorcha is more hurt than she wants to be. They keep coming back to each other though...Ben with his secrets and Sorcha with hers.

Ben has a job to do though, no matter what the cost to his emotions. He does not want to become personally involved with a possible criminal, but as he spends more time with Sorcha and mysterious, frightening things continue to happen, he begins to wonder if he might be wrong. Not knowing who Ben really is, Sorcha struggles to decide if she can trust Ben with her secrets and her heart. Will he feel the same when she reveals them? Is Sorcha involved in drug running? But when Sorcha's life is in imminent danger, Ben can only hope he's not to late to save the woman he realizes he loves.

Toni Anderson really pulled me into Storm Warning...from her descriptions of the Scottish coast "...the crumbling seawall, mist-laden air, and the constant beat of the waves in the background of every breath he took." to the depth of the characters, I could feel myself there and I could feel myself in the characters. Sorcha has done well for herself despite what she endured after her father's death. She is strong and independent. Unaware of the psychic background in her family, she is not sure what to think about the voices or her father's ghost... Her attraction to Ben is unexpected for her, and along with everything else suddenly going on in her life she handles herself (and Ben!) very well. Ben is undercover DEA who has not had an ideal childhood, but is determined to do good where he can. Sorcha forces him to acknowledge parts of himself he's been ignoring. I didn't always like how he acted with Sorcha (the hot/cold thing)...but since I was outside looking in, it made complete sense to me!

Storm Warning has lots of secondary characters that all play an important role in the story...they will all keep you guessing and surprising you! Storm warning is a 5 star romantic suspense that is a great read for anyone looking to escape to the Scottish coast for heart stopping mystery!

My 2 cents:

Sorcha moves back to Scotland to find things have not changed. Everyone still thinks she is a witch after her father died long ago when she was 10. Someone started a rumor and it caught on. When she finds a dead body in the water, things start going down hill from there. A secret DEA agent by the name of Ben thinks she is a drug trafficker or is she? He certainly thinks so, all the signs point that she is. He is also trying to avenge his partners death. Some one ratted him out. Could that also be Sorcha's fault? Sorcha is wondering about Ben, when ever something bad happens to her, Ben is always around. Could he be the cause? There are a lot of twists in this book to keep you guessing. There are some paranormal aspects to the story as well, but don't want to give away anything. There is some romance involved. There is something for everyone to enjoy about this book. Now about half way though I already guessed who did it and was right. Sorcha is independent, but at the same time needy. This was a fun read for me, and keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what else is going to happen.

I don't normally read all that much adult books but the cover on Storm Warning caught my eye on Netgalley and the synopsis intrigued me so I decided to give it a go. Storm Warning was a fast paced action paced read, it had lots of suspense, romance and some steam as well. Both of them main characters were well crafted and I instantly connected with them. For me connection with the characters from the get go is very important, if I don't it is extremely hard for me to get involved in the story.

I fell for Ben Foley almost the minute he was introduced. Ben had a rough upbringing and now he's just watched his partner died in front of his eyes, things like that can make anyone want to crawl back in their own shell. Ben has sworn he'd take down the drug lord and his companions and traces leads him to Scotland, in a little village by the sea. Not the best place to be when you're terrified of water. Author Toni Anderson has shared some pictures from this village, I think it is great to really get to see the location where this story plays out.

The main character Sorcha has a lot of things in common with Ben, and the better acquainted they get the more difficult it becomes to ignore. Almost from the moment the two of them meet the reader feels the chemistry, even if both does their best to dislike the other.


Sorcha has a gift she hasn't really been aware of before, she thinks that she might be going crazy and that she'll end up locked away in some lunatic asylum. If I were to complain about something it would be that I would have loved for Sorcha's gift to be explored further, I don't know if there will be a sequel but I sure would have loved to read more about Sorcha and Ben.

I stayed up late last night reading this book and while I did enjoy it, especially the scenes of the wild Scottish coastline, I found myself wanting to speed the story along. Ben is torn between doing his job to the letter of the law and his growing desire for Sorcha.
Sorcha on the other hand is forcibly ignoring her “sixth sense” and stripping in front of Ben. How many times can a woman take off all her clothes and still not have a man hit on her? The answer is three (no not rhetorical).

I really enjoyed the biology side of things. The discussions of Sorcha’s PhD studies and her research interests were of interest to me. I like to see an author bring some of their real life experience to a novel. It was evident that the author was a marine biologist and in deed loves the sea. The scenes where the storm waves call to both Sorcha and Ben were some of my favorites.

One aspect that I did not enjoy was the constant internal dialogue of Ben’s that Sorcha was a drug dealer and the reason his friend was murdered. How could any cop, never mind undercover DEA agent, jump to such conclusions? Yes, her phone was used, but does that make her a drug dealer and a killer? Rarely if ever would “normal” people seek to torture themselves with the demands and rigor of doctoral work. If she really were a rich drug dealer, wouldn’t she have had a car? Or kept surfing in Oz? Or at least had more than one pair of boots?

Overall, I liked Sorcha and Ben together. They bonded over their common life experience as the outsider”. The take home message of this book may very well be that bully’s change your life and sometimes, they change you. Enjoy!
