Returning to find most of the colony slaughtered, Nickie flies into a rampage and goes off to kill the Skaines who did this.

Then, at her darkest hour, she learns a valuable lesson about herself, and the true nature of retribution.

Meanwhile, her Aunt Tabitha works on her own unique methods for cleaning up the universe. With Ryu beside her, she mis-adventures herself and her Tontos through the seedy underside of Karkat to get their man.

In the end, she also has to admit to what she learned alongside 'Ryotoshi.'

Join Nickie, and The Kurtherian Gambit’s original Ranger Two, Tabitha, on a rip-roaring, bar-brawling adventure to save the frontier from slavery, arms dealing and the Skaines of the universe.

Twins from different mothers

This KU library selection is the continuation of the stories of Tabitha, the original Ranger Two, and of Nickie, the current Ranger Two. Their stories alternate by character and are so interchangeable that I had to double check which character was up more than once. For fans of the KG series and it's off-shoots, these books help with knowing what goes on in the wings. It's very enlightening.

I am really loving this series!!!!

This second book continues Nickie's plan to rid the Universe of the Skaines - well, except for poor, timid, Durq, of course.

Nickie is really having problems coping with what she wants, even needs, to do, about the Skaines, who are causing so much grief, terror, and fear in the colonies, and what her EI, Meredith, and her Cook, Grim, keep telling her that she SHOULD be doing.

The only time she has a break from all that thinking, is when another of her Aunt Tabitha's time-locked letters to her opens.

While she soaks up Tabitha's adventures, she not only stops all the nerves, but it also helps her to calm enough to start sorting out just what it is she's hoping to find in the deaths of so many Skaines.

This book had me thinking, a lot. Not only about both Nickie, and Tabitha's behaviour, but also about how we deal with grief, and rage, and loss, and all those other negatives that the human condition throws at us so often, to the point that we are just surviving, and not coping with our problems.

But, a funny thing happened to me as I read this book - I found that, on some of the darkest actions of both Nickie, and Tabitha, their actions, and the humour that came with their interactions with those who stood by them, had me absolutely belly laughing. Not just once or twice, but throughout the book.

I feel that it's so very true that, no matter how dark things might get in your life, real humour lightens your soul, and takes away some of the negativeness you might be living with!

I found this book very thought provoking but, as I finished the last page, I was smiling, and my body ached with the laughter I had found within it.

You just can't get a better read than that, in my book! Lol

As usual, I read the authors' notes afterwards, and found that same humour working between Ell and Michael. Some interesting stuff, too, as I always do, and I enjoyed this as much as the book itself.

It was then time to check what I'm reading next, and I was happy to see that I'm going back to the Ascension Myths, and book eleven: Invasion!

Let's hope Molly and her crew can sort all of this out, before it's too late, hey?

I can't wait to see what's revealed in this one!

Love this novel

Love love love, this book. I can't get enough of this series.
Sassy, funny action packed. Surely the women in this series should be described as weapons of mass destruction. At the rate they are taking out the Skaines the will be extinct by the end of the series.
Can't wait for the next one.
Ps I don't get the appeal of poker.(when casino royal came out I dragged the missus along just so she could explain that not to me)😀

I have a problem

I have read literally thousands of books, I have read more authors than the law should allow, but this universe is starting to eat away at my other books and authors there is so many variations and authors and points of views I laugh I get drawn in then I have to force myself to walk away from this universe for a while because I feel like I am cheating on the other SciFi books out here.

Enjoyable

Good for what ails you.
Juxtaposing Nicki and Tabitha, their partners, their skills, and their missions, let's one participate in their growth as humans, making their way through many similar insecurities and situations we all get to deal with.
Just change alien 👽 to foreigner or stranger, and note how they grow, work through the issues, etc.
Keep up the good work, I'll keep reading them.

The action continues...

I'm enjoying the narrative set up from the point of view of Nickie learning more about her Aunt Tabitha from her journal. It's an interesting way to link them. The laughs and action continue, and lots of personal development. I'm wondering if Aunt Tabitha will find Nickie, or vice versa, for an ass-kicking family reunion?

Great second book!

Not the second book they’re written. That list is so long it would take up all the author notes section! This book is another excellent story about Tabitha and Nikkie and their seemingly never ending battles. But there’s a lot of fun in this book too! Go Ryu-toshi, dance man dance!

The ending won me over

While I was really enjoying Tabatha part of the story, I was beginning to wonder if it was worth it to continue with the Nickie side of the tale. She really wasn't a very likeable character, especially sad since she is suppose to be the grandchild of 2 such awesome characters. But I was glad I stick with it, the character had learned and grown at the end.

Is The Entire Race Bad?

Both Nickie and Tabitha have personal losses that color their view of the Skaines as a race. Can there be a good Skaine? Tabitha teaches from experience as her diary is unlocked to Nickie a bit at a time. I like the action, humor, and snarky flavor. Both women are capable of kicking evil booty. I look forward to the next book.

I love Ell's books

Awakening was my introduction to the Kutherian Universe and while I've read over half of the books in it now, it's still my favorite. This series about Nickie is the same high quality so far. @MA Projectors are great! I couldn't have a pool party in the back yard and watch Movies on a 12'x9' screen with a TV.

Loving this series

Ell and Michael have done it again. Reading Nickie and Tabitha's adventures is a great romp. Watching the growth of these two is truly entertaining. I've always loved the 'Tontos' and am loving Grim and Durq as well. To me great characters that grow and change make for a great book. So keep reading and enjoy! Don't forget the author's notes!

Great reading

I really enjoyed Nickie's self realization after her trip to the small town on the out of way planet. Tabitha seemed to come to a similar realization during her travels. Vickie would be better with more crew.

Enjoying the 2 stories

I really enjoy these books. I like the way they are half Nickie and half Tabitha. It's like getting 2 books in one. Both are full of action and humor and the storylines are great. I am looking forward to the next book.

They're Back!

Tabitha and Nickie return with a vengeance! Another great book by the pros from Dover. So fun to see Tabitha and Nickie both develop as they blast their way through the bad guys in their search for Justice and the Kurtherian way.

The interaction between Tabitha and Ryu keeps the story fun and fresh. Nickie developed more during this book. Not just killing for the sake of revenge. Looking forward to more adventures with both.
