Seeing our main protagonist go from weakling to absolutely destroying the playing field and then on top of that, finally joining forces with another close to god who can use a rail gun?? This series is so fun, and the fact we still have more development for Nise Chan, I’m definitely along for the adventure
If there's one manga you need to read if you, specifically, are a sci-fi-loving otaku like myself, you absolutely need to read the High-Rise Invasion series right now, or you'll be missing out on a totally underrated manga series that I believe deserves so much more hype than it already has. I've given this series a solid 5/5 stars rating, but if I could, I'd give it more (100/5 stars seems so fitting, in my personal opinion!). I can't think of any other manga novels this is similar to, as it feels like a totally-original category of its own, but if I could give context to the best of my ability, I'd say... Silent Hill meets a brother-sister duo in a game world where if you don't survive, you die... and if you come out as the winner (IE, one "close to God") in this world of high-rises and endless cityscapes, you get whatever you want most... Whatever that is, it's up to you, but you need to fight to survive and kill to win. Are you in, or are you out? Personally, I've been in from page one of the first book, and I'm in till the end of this saga and forever after, too. Seriously, you need to read this series!
Summary (for the whole manga): Yuri Honjou unexpectedly finds herself in a place that does not seem like the world she knows. Soon after, she witnesses a murder being committed right in front of her by a masked man. She runs away to the rooftop and finds herself trapped. There are many high-rise buildings surrounding her. She tries her mobile phone and calls her brother. Surprisingly, her brother, Rika, is also here in this weird world. Yuri strives to find her brother by crossing the bridges attached to each building and fighting against the ruthless masks.
Likes: -- Unique story, with a lot of violence. I was on edge after reading every chapter. Each character had distinctive personality and appearance, which was convenient for me to remember them (you know how some manga characters look all the same, so luckily the illustrator for this manga is pretty good with how the characters are portrayed).
Dislikes: -- Too much fan service, not to my liking.
This volume felt a lot better to me than the previous one. I flew through the pages and remained entertained throughout. I do think there was more fan service than in previous volumes which was super disappointing. If it didn't have underage girls showing their underwears then I would rate this a 4.5 or even a 5 star book. Action scenes were great and well executed.
Honestly, this manga is weird. BUT. It keeps me intrigued and wanted to know what the heck is with this world. Why are they killing people? Why the mask? What's in the mask? Who is behind these? Where are they? Are they even in the real world? Or was it like a virtual reality game? That's what keeps me going. I wanted to know the rest of the story. Thankfully, this manga is already completed. I can leisurely finish it anytime I want. lol. No rush, no pressure. :p
