2/5. Only reason I read this book was the author himself came to SCMHRD college to inaugurate the book. Low quality content, non-informative and written about most talked brands. However, you're short of time and want to read about the evolving Indian brands, you can consider this to read.

Harsh has done a great job of bringing out the stories of some of the biggest startups and companies in India in this book! When you hear a booming brand, you don't tend to notice the struggle they went through in the years that they grew from a one person to a thousand or more people company. He brings this out with not one, but 11 companies. Kudos to Harsh on working hard to get the stories out! Truly a herculean effort.

Booming Brands by Harsh Pamnani is a Non-fiction, breaking down the formation mechanisms of 11 leading brands in India. The book includes brands such as BYJU's, FirstCry, Zomato, BookMyShow, Shaadi.com and 6 other brands. Harsh Pamnani has laid out the success stories of the CEO's and the Founders of these brands to give his readers a better perspective on how to boom their own brands.

The author has sectioned the book into 11 chapters, each of them dedicated to one brand. The chapters starts off with first-hand introductory advises from the author and then he goes on to describe the story of building of a brand from its scratch. The author deftly narrates the founders' struggles, then the initial success or the failure story, then the branding, then he talks about the investments and the fundings, then he talks about how the founders reached their target consumers and then the stable growth of the brands. In some of the brands such as Zomato, Jayashree, Elephant designs and Su-Kam, it was interesting to read about how the founders came up with their Start-up's names. In some (like Goli's Vada Pav), it was interesting to read about the comeback after an initially failed plan. The author deconstructs these success stories and presents them on a platter for instilling inspiration.

'Booming Brands' is a highly illuminating take on the the ups and downs of some of the most noteworthy, self-made 'Indian' brands. By encapsulating the journey of these brands in the form of awe-inspiring stories, the author has presented a unique and digestible way of getting to know the dirty process behind building a brand. This is an excellent way to make the faces behind these brands into tangible role models for India's highly vibrant, young population. This book is the perfect guide for that budding entrepreneur, and Harsh Pamnani has offered a gold mine. Other than being extremely well written, the book is replete with insight for those who want to get out there and do something worthwhile. For others, it offers nothing but motivation and inspiration!

Harsh has done a great job of collating the incredible origin stories of these 11 Made in India brands. Unlike other marketing books, you won't find jargons or clichés here. The narrative is easy to understand and has a good flow. It's a book for everyone who is interested in a good origin story as well as becoming a successful Entrepreneur. We read a lot about International brands and how they made big in the world, but now its time to hear the stories of our very own Indian brands through Harsh's words. The caricatures on the front cover of the book give you an idea that this is not a very serious marketing book but a book for all to enjoy. Well done Harsh.

We crib about how delightful would it be to be working with unicorns such as Zomato and Byjus, but lesser have we known the hurdles faced by them.
I LOVE NEW BRAND JOURNEY'S BUT NEVER HAD A INNER PEAK IN THEIR GREN ROOMS. No one tells us the reality of how they overcame the hurdles. It's only when I read this book I felt lucky to be close to them.

You have to constantly be in the learning mode and you can never get to a point where you believe you actually know it

A quick brush up on certain new-age big Indian brands.
Cons: Doesn't mention even one marketing/branding person involved, anything negative or struggles over controversies.

P.S. Murugan Idli is not from Chennai, but was founded in Madurai.
P.P.S. What is this fascination with calling someone a 'Tamil Brahmin'.
P.P.P.S. Over half the reviews of the book on goodreads that are 5 stars, are by people who have only ever written 1 review.

It is said, "Journey is more important than the destination". The journey that I went through along with this book not only taught me many things but also gave me a new direction to look at my nation and its developments from a new perspective. The transformation of India from a developing country to one giving equal competition to top nations made me feel proud. I would recommend this book to my friends and colleagues for enlightening them in the world of business and branding.
