This book was a lot tamer than what I expected. I liked the taboo aspect of the story, but it needed more details. There were still many unanswered questions that would have made the story more satisfying.

In starting Sparks, I was expecting solid insights into what shaped Luke. Taylee is a complex character and I would have liked to know more about why she made certain decisions throughout the storyline. The dynamic between Taylee and Luke is disturbingly curious, with each having their own set of problematic behavior. I definitely would have preferred to descend more into the darkness, but now understand how it all began.

well, for me ... that was wonderful amazing, great experience of reading... However, I started at the end of the sequel... i will read the others!

4 star editing, 5 star story/premise = 4.5 stars.
Although I don’t believe this book is intended to be read as a standalone, it could be! It took me several days after finishing the whole series before I figured out how this prequel even related to the rest of the books in the series! In fact, I’m still not even sure I came to the correct conclusion!!! However, if you read this one, you’ll want to read the rest!!! This is by far my favorite series by Olson!!!!! Warning: this series is for truly dark, DARK, book lovers only!!!

Wow. Okay. Sparks: An Inferno Prequel introduces you to Pater's mama and some of the things Pater went through as a child. Oh, boy. Mama. She gives me mixed feelings. I want to like her and then I don't. And I can understand why Pater is some what the way he is.
This is a great addition to the Inferno collection. All three books (Sparks, Inferno, Cinere) are all must reads. Yolanda did an amazing job with these.

Judging by the reviews of this story, I expected way darker than I read. In all honesty, this is absolutely nothing compared to the other dark and taboo books I have read before.
Although I loved the taboo aspect of this story, I do hope that the next books have more details included in them. This would have been a 5 star read if more details were added within it.

Although this book is labeled a prequel, I would read it after Inferno and Cinere. If I'd known Pater/Luke's background prior, the full effect Yolanda wanted us to experience would have been minimized.
Learning about Luke's childhood and what turned him into Pater makes you realize that this man was f*cked from the beginning. His mom was mentally unstable and her primary source of affection and love was her son.
Mommy's proclivities for familial carnal relations are exactly what Luke/Pater craves as an adult.
Now that we know more let's move on to the next chapter and meet Darby as an adult.

This is the book that starts it all. We finally see why Pater is the way he is. I'm going to tell you Yolanda could keep writing about this family and I would never get tired of reading about them. They are f*cking nuts and that's putting it nicely. If you have read Inferno and Cinere you definitely need to read Sparks because mother knows best.

Let me say that I have pondered this review for a few hours before printing it. I need to say in no uncertain terms that Ms. Olson has built a franchise that far outweighs anything I believe I have ever wrapped my mind around with the Inferno saga.
She brilliantly has described in each installment, how "Pater", or Luke, as we know is his actual name, has evolved into the force that he is.
A mother's love is unconditional. Regardless of your fragile mind. Taylee loves Luke profoundly. I think it is fair to say Luke worships his mother also. The relationship is so unique that only a master story teller like Yolanda Olson can weave us into her web of spilled ink with the grace and clarity to help guide us to understand it.
Bravo for another amazing piece of this puzzle.

The beginning of it all
I am re-reading the entire series. The first time I was hungry for the series and read it fast and greedily. This time I am pacing myself and absorbing all that is the Inferno World.
This is a Luke's origin addition to the original series. We learn what happened to Luke that started him on his path of...destruction.
So although it was the 3rd book written it's a prequel and could be read first if you like chronological reading. This is also why you may see it listed as Book 0.5.
As with anything written by the Queen of Darkness or anything having to do with Inferno, read the warnings and read responsibly.

Like mother like son
What I enjoyed most about Sparks, is that while reading it you become so immersed in the emotions of what's happening that you forget Pater's mom has a dark, and twisted side. It was emotional getting to know Pater, and how he was before Inferno. I found myself understanding, and loving Pater even more >:-) - and this is coming from Jocelyn. ;-)
I absolutely love the twists, and turns you get when reading anything by Yolanda. Sparks can be read before or after Inferno. Either way you should definitely read it.

The starting of the book and I was feeling so sorry for this girl-who was a nun and had a decent life but a small (okay, kind of big) mishap on her part and everything came crashing around her. I really do feel sorry for her BUT I can't really help my urges to kill her. She ruined everything because of her psychotic conditions- she should've gotten help when she could've.

OMG!!! A NUN????...what a way to start a book.
In this book we learn all about Pater's mommy. At first I was really confused about her. I felt she was too nice to be his mom. Then suddenly I saw why Pater is the way he is. I was shocked and intrigued! I knew there was something hidden in her!!!
Loved reading Sparks!! Once again Yolanda didn't disappoint!!! Thank you Yolanda for listening to your readers and decided to give us answers!!

This is a prequel to Inferno and Cinere However to my experience it's best to read those first.
Momma is home! On this story we find his reasoning behind his decisions, we are enlighten to the root of why he becomes the man we meet on this series. Sparks is the light in the darkness of this series.
I consumed this book, my only complain was that it felt like not enough, and as it the normal torture of this author the ending leaves you with a big question to which my theory will be discussed with my book friends as soon as they catch up.

I can never seem to get enough of the Inferno world. Sparks by Yolanda Olson gives us a little sneak peek into the world of Pather's life before he becomes the Pather that we all love to hate.
This is the glimpse of Pather's mother that we all have wanted to see and to learn just maybe why Luke does some of the things he does.
You can not go wrong with this story, whether you read it before of after Inferno, it should be read.

i’m trying to finish the inferno world series and decided to give this book a try. it was…definitely pitch black and super taboo like the others, i can’t decide if i’ll start this series or not, but i don’t regret reading it. 😊 i’m still not understanding the dynamic of their relationship? i was following but now im lost lol.

I thought it was a light story about a mother and son who get a HEA.
Well, let me tell you. I was dead wrong. I have no idea what world I just stumbled into.
A twisted, fucked up story that got me (literally) gasping and wanting more. Can't wait to start the whole series. I'm equally excited and shit scared.

Sparks is a prequel to Inferno. You are transported back to Daddy's childhood. Was Daddy born a monster or created to be one? Sparks is the answer. In this one, Ms. Olson shares the mind of Mother. Mother, a former nun that fell down the pleasure rabbit hole, and then twisted the idea into something darker. Seriously, can you expect anything less from Ms. Olson? Sparks is just as disturbing as Inferno and Cinere, but, at the same time, you can’t help but want to turn the page to see what happens. In the end, be ready to question your own morals, and fall even more for Daddy.
