New York in Bloom: Floral portraits matching New York architecture with seasonal blooms and bouquets.

Rate this book
New York in Bloom leads you on a beautiful floral tour of the metropolis—past stylish floral studios and corner shops overflowing with fresh-cut blooms, through bustling flower markets, to blooming trees and lush public parks.

“A magical and unexpected look at New York, this book is lovely and brilliant—a true triumph.” ―Laura Dowling, former chief floral designer at the White House

“Every page of this exquisite book beckons you to buy a plane ticket to New York and see it for yourself.” ―Carla Coulson, author, Paris Tango and Italian Joy

With sumptuous photography, the unexpected, softer side of New York is revealed by juxtaposing floral beauty with exquisite botanical details found in the city’s iconic architecture. Author and photographer Georgianna Lane Lane writes in her introduction, “So here is my humble ode to this fantastic, maddening, beautiful, demanding, ultimately rewarding, and indefinable city—a blooming tribute in words and images, composed to the heavenly notes of birdsong and illuminated by the light of the dreams of every person who calls this metropolis home.”

For anyone who loves New York City, beautiful flowers, and world-class photography, New York in Bloom is a gorgeous gift and an essential addition to one’s library of fine books.

She's done it again. Georgianna Lane is an amazing photographer, and her talents don't stop there. She writes and photographs simply stunning books, like this one.

One of the things I love about New York in Bloom is the incredible thoroughness with which Georgianna approached her subject. After reading it, I really felt as though I'd enjoyed an amazing tour of the city. On this tour, instead of riding around on a bus full of sweaty strangers listening to a guide make corny jokes on a microphone that keeps shorting out, I felt as though I'd just enjoyed strolling along in a beautiful city with a friend who has an uncanny knack for noticing tiny, beautiful details. (See pages 70 & 71 for an example.)

New York in Bloom has pictures of parks and gardens all over New York. There are tours through floral studios that will simply take your breath away. Georgianna takes us along with her to the flower markets, too. You know - the ones in the movies where a beautiful woman walks out with an armful of flowers that are as beautiful as she is. There's also a section of floral displays which took me to a part of New York that I've never seen personally or in the movies. I learned about flower shows, gaped at huge urns full of blooms as you enter art museums, and enjoyed the flowers on display in the interiors of some of New York's most opulent hotels. She even lets us tag along for the annual Easter Parade.

I can't overstate the pleasure this book brings. Georgianna Lane has an eye for beauty, a joy for living, and a talent with her camera that I've not found in anyone else. Her kind, gentle, beauty-loving spirit is present on every page. Isn't it such a gift when authors share themselves so fully with their readers?

Finally learned the name of the magnolia I’ve been mooning over: saucer magnolia.
Daffodils are one of my favorites as well and I had no idea that the city had embraced them so as a symbol of renewal after 9/11.

Beautiful book! The photos are amazing and the text is well-written. Just what I needed to lift my spirits! I may have to get Paris in Bloom too.

The visuals in this book are beautiful. It's a treat just to see the variety of colours, patterns, images that the photographer was able to capture. The descriptions in each section are nice to read and really gives you a glimpse of New York in the springtime. In the end of the book, I appreciated the addresses and what is in bloom where at what time. However, none of the pictures have any captions or comments. So it's a visual splendor, but I felt like I lacked some connection to the images because there was no description or no thoughts by the author. I like to read about why a certain image was taken, what's in the image, or where it is. I guess that's a personal preference. Either way, this book does capture the beauty of flowers in bloom.

A beautiful photography book to enjoy with a warm cup of tea.
The pages deliver a refreshing look at a much photographed city through lush foliage and using a plethora of camera angles that highlight the floral mass through Summer and Spring.

I feel the same about this book as I did Paris in bloom. I don’t like the fact the picture were washed out. Maybe that’s the photographer styles but it’s not my cup of tea. I do like this book a little over the Paris one and that’s mainly because I live in NYC.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Every single Georgianna Lane book I've read/savored has been like a tonic for my soul!

The stunning images and layouts that Georgianna creates have the effect of instantly soothing any anxiety or stress I might be feeling. I always keep at least one of her floral books on my coffee table so that I can feel peaceful any time that I need it.

I love reading her chapter introductions, but I'm also so grateful for the lack of long chapters. I'm totally into the Bloom books for the full-page photography. I'm so happy that the pages are soft and matte and not glossy. It makes for a soothing and tactile experience...instead of feeling like a magazine advertisement.

I can't decide which of her Bloom books I like best—I've visited all three cities and loved them in their own way. Perhaps London, though, because I've been there more recently. But, literally any photograph or art from Ms. Lane I would love...in any form.

Highly, highly recommended!

P.S. I can't wait for her Beautiful Blooms book to arrive for Mother's Day!

Absolutely gorgeous book! I am just leaving this out on my coffee table all spring and try to look at it daily! The past few years I have traveled to NYC in April, as well as October. Not being able to travel in 2020 or 2021, I got this book as a tribute to the beautiful spring season in NYC and as a way to visualize the floral upulance from my living room. It has been a great disappointment for me to not be there personally, but Ms. Lane has made it a bit easier. In fact, I sent my son in NYC a copy of this book, which he also loves! A really great visual tribute to the great city! A book I will never tire of looking at. Each page is a work of art!

I really didn't enjoy this anywhere near as much as i enjoyed Lane's other two books in Paris and London.
In this one the colours are dull & uninspiring unlike the promise on the front cover
the descriptions also uninspiring, considering it states Americans fierce competition on flower arrangements i didn't find anything to my taste except the carvings into infrastructure

Bello y extraordinario

Este es un libro maravilloso sobre la belleza de las flores y la importancia que las mismas tienen en la sensibilidad estética y por la naturaleza de la ciudadanía neoyorquina y visitantes. Disfruté mucho esta obra y recomiendo su lectura y precio.

I brought this book because I was homesick and one of my favorite things when I lived in NY was the way spring bloomed everywhere.

Pretty but lacked New York. The guides for making a New York bouquet and a spring bloom tour were really cool!

Beautiful pictures. The photographer as well as those who did the plantings and floral arrangements are artists. Some trivia and gift suggestions (minimal).

I wish words and stories were attached to the photographs and not just the book being 75 percent photographs without a story or meaning behind them. I guess New York has been the subject of so many photography books and sites, so I was hoping for something really special out of this book, because her first book on Paris was pretty magical.

One extra star for how beautiful the photographs were though, but I did feel overwhelmed when I was just flipping through pages and pages of photos
