Manners don’t come naturally to everyone! But did you know that elephants are known for their impeccable etiquette? It’s true! This hilarious guide to good manners offers many fun teaching moments for kids and their parents—it covers all the basics for the preschool set, from saying “please” and “thank you” to sharing and being kind to others. Filled with bright, adorable illustrations in Hello!Lucky’s inimitable style, young children will love learning about manners with this delightful, sturdy board book.
Nice bright colours and busy pages, but I feel like the vocabulary used is too old for the intended board book age group, plus "look people in the eye" as politeness is not very autism friendly!
KINDNESS RULES! is a fun new manners book, perfect for preschoolers. Magic Manners, an elephant who knows her stuff, teaches toddlers about manners in different situations along with her animal friends. For instance, the book covers the basics of what to do when meeting someone you don't know or what to do when you are upset and need to be heard. The book gives great examples with the other animals and Magic Manners (MM).
The illustrations are full of neon colors and cover each page. A lot of the action is in speech bubbles below the large text that gives the situation and what Magic Manners would do. The images can be pretty intense for young toddlers and infants and the manners situations may mostly go over their head, but this would be perfect for preschoolers who are encountering some of these situations.
What I loved: The neon images and cute animals will have great appeal for preschoolers. The lessons are also really fantastic, including being kind, sharing, saying please and thank you, and listening when someone has something they need to share. Magic Manners is a fun character in a superhero-style costume that will convey these lessons to preschoolers in a delightul and colorful way.
Final verdict: KINDNESS RULES! is a neon-colored book that conveys great lessons about manners using animal examples. Delightful for preschoolers, this book contains some great information to help little ones navigate new situations.
I am a huge fan of the Moyle sisters. There words and illustrations together are magic, and Kindness Rules is NO exception! I love our friend elephant's journey to self-discover in realizing the importance of kindness. Whenever elephant is in doubt, Magic Manners comes to the rescue! I loved the illustrations and the impact of the text and side text to enhance the story. It is definitely a book I would read to Pre-K age kiddos versus anyone lower due to the vocabulary and the amount of information in this board book. Why is it not getting 5 ⭐️? I think this book would lend itself better to a large format in order to make the pages not quite so crowded. Other than that, this is PERFECTION!
3.5 stars -- Vibrant, cute, and hip little book presents the values of manners and kindness in an active way kids can apply to their everyday situations. There are not only typical manners, such as sharing and "please & thank you," but also less remarked-upon, but still important, values like not playing too rough with others and respecting personal space. The vocabulary may be over the heads of the intended audience.
This book was a really fun read. The bright colors and illustrations were so cute and I loved the message. This offers teachers a very fun and clever way to teach students the basics of etiquette and politeness. From saying please and thank you, to listening when someone else is speaking, learning to apologize, how to share, greet new people and ‘use your words’ when upset, this book has it all! I could see myself using this book in my future classroom.
This book confuses “kind” with Midwest politeness. Neurodivergent people who are uncomfortable by eye contact aren’t kind. Rude jerks. Try everything on that plate even if you have food sensitivities. It’s worth gagging in front of your hosts. And you better perfect a manly handshake so you aren’t seen as womanly weak. YES, A MASCULINE GRIP LOADED WITH e. Coli IS KIND. Dainty ladies with gentle grips are unkind.
4.5 stars, rounding up. Love the illustrations, love MAGIC, love the little quirks. As another reviewer pointed out, I think the cue to look people in the eye because it is polite is insensitive to Neurodiversity and culturally exclusive. I purchased it for my children’s art and yoga class and look forward to sharing it with my students.
I love how colorful this book was but for my eyes, it was a little busy. However, I still loved the messages it gives about manners, how to be polite, how to be nice to people, how to respect space. This is a great board book.
For: animal fans; readers looking for a book about using good manners.
Possible red flags: the text is quite plentiful and has a lot of jokes that the target age group won't understand--more of a conversation starter than a guide considering the age group.
This book would be very loved by a child with a long attention span who loves to read and look at a bunch of little words and illustrations. It’s very cluttered on each page and the words are a little hard to read, but overall, an EXCELLENT message and a great concept.
I was going to take away one star because i find the book to be too "busy" too wild, too much going on through the pages..then i tried to think how fun this may be for a young one and the message is for all- young and old. A book I will find again to read to my LO through the toddler years.
There is a little too much text going on in this book (meaning font of all sizes and shapes all over the pages). But it does show all different ways we are kind (including minding someone's personal space)
A bit wordy for a board book, Kindness Rules introduces young readers to a set of manners and rules. These are common situations and may help introduce young readers to new ways of behaviors. It may a be a good book to add to a home or school collection.
I read this book to Julianna tonight before bed. She gives it 5 stars. She likes it because its about kindness. We like the pictures too. Good short lesson book.
Overall a nice look at manners; however, I was not a fan of the meeting someone new or old pages as I don't want to encourage young kids to approach strangers.
