I've had this one on my shelf for a while, but since I did my Reiki Level 1 last weekend, I figured now was a good time to read this.

This book is pretty straight-up: it explains what Reiki is and how it works, without doing the teaching you get from a Reiki workshop.

What I love most about Reiki is that, to me, it is the meeting of spirituality and science. Reiki is the channelling of universal energy - the energy that science has confirmed makes up everything. Everything in the world is composed of vibrating energy, and Reiki just taps into that energy. It seems like magic but - although I'm quite happy to think of myself as a magician - I personally believe science will get around to explaining it properly one day so that people are less sceptical.

This book explains things in a matter-of-fact manner, and is still able to acknowledge the scepticism that many people feel when dealing with spirituality. I think until you have encountered something inexplicable yourself, it's quite natural not to believe. Whereas, when you feel the electric charge tingling in your palms and making your face buzz, it's hard to deny its existence. But this book also reminds us that it doesn't matter whether you believe or not - as long as you are open to the energy, Reiki will do its thing regardless of your beliefs.

The history of Reiki and the precepts set down by its founder, Master Usui, are explained, but this book doesn't replace what you'll get out of doing the Levels taught by practitioners. It also delves into what you can expect as a recipient of Reiki, distance healing, healing for animals, benefits of meditation to both Reiki and everyday obstacles, and the notion of spirituality. Included towards the end are some anecdotal experiences from clients and practitioners to give you an idea of how the energy healing can impact people (and animals) differently.

It's an excellent overall view of this Japanese healing technique, and works well as supporting information for those looking to both receive and/or practice Reiki. I'd recommend it highly to anyone interested in knowing more about the energy that makes up the universe and how it can be channelled for healing.

There were a lot of meditation methods in here that I was able to do in class, which is pretty cool. It's not really the best book to read in class because it takes a very focused mind to understand and remember everything in the book, but that doesn't change my rating of it.

A Little Bit of Reiki: An Introduction to Energy Medicine by Valerie Oula. Sterling Ethos: New York. 2019

We all have our gifts, and those things that draw our interest and hold our attention, so I will admit, I have never felt gifted when it comes to energy healing. Because I’ve never felt gifted with it, it’s never held much interest for me. I wouldn’t call myself a cynic, not at all, but up until recently, I simply didn’t “get it”. I tried. I just couldn’t break through. While I know plenty of people have sent me energy healing and performed energy healing on me in person, I couldn’t feel the connection. It took me a long time to realize the disconnect was not with the energy, it was with my own body. Once I was able to reconnect with my body, energy healing became far more accessible to me.

A Little Bit of Reiki was important for me in the process of opening myself to energy healing because it was able to explain it to me in a way I understood. It wasn’t confusing, or overly flowery, it was straightforward and informative. Now that I have a far better connection with my own body than I did just a few years ago, it was (and most important to me) useful.
Oula gives a brief history of Reiki, but successful covers how the different schools of thought originated and encourages finding the one best suited for you. She explains the terms, what happens at each Reiki level, what to expect when you go for a session, how to receive and send; all the little bits that give a well-balanced introduction into this form of energy healing.

There are also a lot (almost too much) stories of Reiki in use. While these are interesting, I feel less accounts would have opened more room for deeper insights.

I generally like the “A Little Bit of” series and this title was no exception. It’s a nice little addition to my meditation room library.

This book taught me about the (very) basic principles of reiki and why Oula thinks I should believe her, but she didn't really teach me anything about reiki other than it's manipulating neutral energy. Yes, I know, but I wanted a little bit more. I'm a well read skeptic, PLEASE convince me. I love finding out my doubt has no basis. I was not convinced of Reiki working because it wasn't explained at all. This book should be renamed "A Very Tiny Bit of Reiki and a Whole Lot of How I Feel about It."

This book is a great introduction to Reiki and energy. It's a fun read that I think is great for beginners who are curious about reiki, as well as for seasoned practitioners. As a reiki practitioner myself, this book helped me reconnect with the basics and continue to deepen my understanding of reiki. I also really enjoyed the little meditative exercises the author included at the end of several chapters. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in or curious about reiki.

Short cute musings on a not yet popular subject. If looking for actual reiki knowledge, not the right book to go too. But if just looking for a broad casual look on energy flow while waiting on hold with the credit card company and drinking tea, then this might work. It does have about 3 pages of good morning meditation and breathing routines. However the gender specific terms used continuously through out the writing was a major put off and ultimately made it a 2 star book for me

I loved the aesthetic of the book above everything else. The content was very pleasing and calming. Sometimes I'm such a go with the flow/ it is what it is kind of person, that resonated with me. I have never tried reiki but now that I understand what it is, I wouldn't mind experiencing it from a reiki master. 🙂

2.5/3 stars. While this is a good book to understand the vibrational universe, this book has maybe 3 practices for “reiki”. I think this is important if you are curious about reiki and are going to a reiki session. However, this book is not for you if you are interested in self practicing reiki. Good information, bad for a guide.

Good introductory book on Reiki for anyone curious about this subject. Size is perfect, not overhelming yet with just enough information to understand easily what REIKI is .

I really enjoyed it, well divided subjects, in small chapters, so you can easily go through a chapter when you are out and about .

A really great introduction into Reiki and definitely recommend anyone who is feeling some curiosity on the practice. It answered many questions and gave a lot of insight. It was a quick, easy read that I devoured in just 3 sittings. Parts of it felt a bit generic, which is why I did not give 5 Stars but overall I definitely recommend ☺️

Wonderful foundation to a world of reiki. The author makes this book easy and enjoyable to read. It’s a quick read but with many profound messages. This author is one I’d love to sit down and have a tea with one day.

A quick and easy read. I'm biased by a personal healing experience but think Reiki will go more mainstream. Meditation is finding scientific backing I think reiki will become more recognized as well. It is purposeful and gives hope when nothing else can be done.

Thank you for sharing bf a little bit of reiki with me, this has been the first and favorite from this series. The book wasn’t overloaded with exercises like one of the others and it dipped in to several interesting areas. Thank you for sharing the healing with me.

Informative/good introduction to Reiki, but it wasn't organized great/seemed very redundant, which made it a slow, laborious read for me.

It had nice information about Reiki, but I thought it would explain how to do Reiki. I have read a few books from the a little bit series and I would have to say that I did not enjoy it.
