Darcy Pennington’s course was set long before she ever stepped foot in Alitheia, and when she returns for her fourth visit to the magical realm, she finds even more outside her control than ever before. Darcy is finally willing to follow her prophesied path, but a painful rejection almost pushes her over the edge, and when she demands answers from Rubidius, he provides her only with more secrets she must keep from the others. In the meantime, Darcy and her friends set out to confront one of Tselloch’s gateways, fulfilling—so they think—the great Prophecy of the Six. But when faced with practicing their magic against Tselloch’s evil power, nothing turns out as expected. With her oracle and her looming transformation into a tsellodrin always hanging over her, Darcy wonders, in the end, if there is any hope at all for her and Tellius, or for Alitheia.

"Agh. Agh. Agh. Aww.... Agh. Agh. Aww..." *The Enchanted in sounds* Above is a mixture of pain and happiness, in case you can't tell. This. Series. I just can't even.... I don't know. You just kinda have to read it to understand.
Well, I think that I love this series! Totally THRILLED that I am blessed to be able to read these the second they come into our PH.
My youngest daughter (16) read along with me and you know the book has APPEAL when your child keeps coming up and saying things like:
Okay, what did you think of this bit?
and
UGH! That made me nuts!
lololol...and what's funny/good/amazing...is that I agreed with her.
This is a JOURNEY with ups and downs and left me wanting to hug some characters, beat some others and just BE with them.
The Six are growing up and they are finding that the life on the other side of the gateway can be harrowing, even more so than in earlier books.
Collin...ah, Collin...what ARE you thinking?
Tellius...my daughter says that he's grown into someone SHE wouldn't mind marrying!
And Darcy, oh Darcy. Did you read the part about me having a 16 y/o? Yeah...Ms. Hoyle GETS kids and how they react...and how they grow. Darcy is growing and I'm quite proud of her.
Whenever I’ve been reading books that are mid or not SUPER good, I always default to rereading books I know and love. This is my third or fourth time reading this series (someone really needs to steal my copies because the amount of times I’ve read this and still enjoyed it is ridiculous) and how can I possibly love it as much or more every time? I hated Tellius for most of the book and screamed at him- I mean, my book- several times. But he REALLY pulled through at the end. STOP RESISTING, DARCY! MARRY HIM!!!
I love, Love, LOVE this book!! I know I said the last one was my favorite buut…
Darcy’s year leading up to her fourth year in Alitheia has been tough, her dreams and thoughts plagued with the horrors of the year before. When she finally arrives everything starts going downhill their first week, and that’s a reflection of the whole year. But along with the bad of this year is the sweet bliss of romance and much learning for the even harder years to come.
I'm seeing the tension and stakes of this series slowly ratchet up with each book, and my hopes for the final two are getting higher! Watching Darcy and her friends continue to mature and understand their roles in Alitheia is a joy that keeps on giving and I'm eager for what's next. Yahto Veli and Sam are my favorite characters at this point, and Tellius's arc also gained new depth in this volume. On to The Scroll!
I think this is my favorite one of the series. It was just so good. Not as action packed (though there was still action) as the others, but a lot of focus on the characters, which I loved. Had a fairytale feel to the story. Read the full review at Girl Who Reads
I loved this. By this point I was completely connected to the characters and invested in saving Alithea. This one was a little harder for me to enjoy because of some of Tellius' actions. But don't you worry, I still read it in like... A DAY.
It’s time for Darcy and the rest of the Six to head back to camp with their families. They head to Alitheia full of hope, ready for a year involving a coronation, but events unfold almost immediately that change the plans for the year completely. Darcy must remain strong and support her friends as she faces the greatest threat yet.
I’ve really enjoyed reading this series as each book has been released this year and The Enchanted was no exception! The chosen Six are sixteen now, although they’ve lived the last three years twice. Their maturity is really starting to show in this book in the way they react to events and each other. They have all begun to rely on each other more, but apart from Darcy, we’re still not seeing a lot of the Six’s magic or special abilities yet.
Tellius is really starting to show what an amazing ruler he will be, now that he’s maturing and starting to take on the heavy burden of responsibility. The poor guy has been through so much trauma through his life that he believes himself cursed and won’t acknowledge his feelings for Darcy for fear that she’ll be taken from him next. Those feelings really set the scene for a tragic romance in this book.
The Enchanted is a very well-crafted episode in this series – with just the right amount of action, story development and changes in relationships, it was a pleasure to read. There’s a real sense of building up towards a larger event, and with only two books remaining in the series, it’ll be coming soon!
Once again, I’d recommend the Gateway Chronicles series to those who enjoy fantasy aimed at a young-YA crowd.
One day while hiking a young girl discovers a portal to another world, the magical land of Alithia. She soon learns of a prophecy claiming that she and five others are destined to save this mystical place. At first the six are unsure of their part in this ancient prophecy. But eventually they learn to work together as a team, united in their efforts to fulfill their destiny and save this enchanted land.
Author K.B. Hoyle pens scenes that pop with vibrant details, making the world of Alitheia vivid and very much alive for the reader. There are new and exciting twists with the turn of each page as this dynamic series unfolds. Hoyle is a gifted author whose stories flow smoothly from one exciting chapter to the next, leaving the reader heartily anticipating the next adventure.
The Gateway Chronicles are a phenomenal and entirely compelling series. As the story progresses all the characters are fleshed out as each grows and develops in maturity. The six encounter struggles to which we can all relate and from which we can all learn. Each book in the series expertly builds upon the last. Hoyle guides her readers through a gauntlet of magic and fantasy adventure as the series builds to a resounding crescendo. The world of fantasy fiction is brought to an entirely new level with this outstanding series. The Gateway Chronicles are destined to become a timeless classic.
The Enchanted is my favorite of The Gateway Chronicles. I've not been this emotionally invested in a story or fictional characters in some time! My heart was ALL IN. There were tears. I had reader's anxiety! And I simply had to know if the prophecy about Darcy and Tellius would be true or if Hoyle would upend the story on us. (I won't ruin it—you'll have to read it to find out.) As soon as I closed the cover, I flipped back to re-read a few sections because they were so lovely and full of hope and life. This story has been water to my soul—awakening in me once more a deep desire for all that's good in the world and to be actively seeking goodness for those I care about. The story Hoyle has crafted in The Enchanted is robust—the dialogue, the scenes, the descriptions, the mystery, the magic, the new characters... I cannot say enough about this particular installment.
Darcy is growing up, and it is both thrilling and tragic to watch. This is my favorite in the Gateway Chronicles series, but I felt that way after I read each one of them. They keep getting better, more exciting, more deep into the characters' lives and personalities. A little bit more angsty teen romance in this one, which I totally love. Looking forward to the next, always looking forward to the next.
I love that in these books you think you can guess what’s about to happen and then things still turn out different then you expect! They are so so good!
In The Enchanted, The Six are back for their fourth visit to Alitheia, and armed with new information, are hopeful to see the prophecy fulfilled soon. Tellius will soon come of age and be crowned king. The plan is to journey back to a stop from The Oracle and see if they can fulfill one of the prophecy's provisions. Unfortunately, very little goes as planned.
While still an enjoyable part of the overall story, this volume has a number of anti-climaxes and plenty of tragedy, so this one always makes me sad. The questing adventure is shorter, but what they learn factors into the next two volumes. As a result, this book feels like a bridge between the earlier and final parts of the series.
Much of the book develops Darcy and Tellius' stormy and confusing courtship - dancing between desire and fear, the prophecy and choices, risk and safety, broken trust and forgiveness. All of these elements make it feel very real, and I experience heart ache for the characters at this point of emotional investment. Once again, the characters are maturing while still acting their (adjusted?) ages, and the descriptions of Darcy and Sam learning to drive had me laughing and smiling at the beginning.
More and more, I see how much of this series is about relationships and trust - friendships, mentorships, family, and love. All of them are messy and imperfect, which is one of the things I love about the characters and the series itself. Everyone makes mistakes, acts selfishly, and keeps secrets out of fear. The need for confession and forgiveness in restoring the broken relationships is beautifully redemptive and reflects the story's Christian themes.
The Enchanted by K.B. Hoyle is the psychological hingepoint of the Gateway Chronicles. In this fourth volume, the teenage protagonists are maturing into young adulthood, and growing in both their abilities and reliance on one another. Tellius is crowned king, and together with Darcy and her companions, must face down the dark lord Tselloch in their most harrowing confrontation yet.
As in The White Thread, the revised version of The Enchanted includes many reworked scenes and additions that will delight existing Gateway fans and deepen the experience for newcomers. Read my full review here
>Book Review – The Enchanted >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Gateway Chronicles and continues the adventure. Another year passes and another trip to camp is made. The kids are now driving and puberty is definitely hitting as Perry is a serial dater now. This story has a much sadder tone. Tellius is crowned king, but doesn’t declare Darcy as Queen. He publicly denies her, breaking her heart. Darcy and Tellius spend most of the book figuring out their attraction. >The quest in this book less important than the relationships. There is a real romantic pull between Darcy and Tellius. Some surprising loss hits home how all of these battles can have dire and permanent consequences. A new character, Colin, takes a larger roll. Darcy is sympathetic towards him, but he is painted as one of the bad guys. > This book is appropriate for a young adult (16+) audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. There is less action, but more pull on the heartstrings.
In the fourth book of K. B. Hoyle’s series The Gateway Chronicles, the six go to the magical world of Alitheia. Tellius becomes the king of Alitheia and they set off on a long journey to find to find a portal leading from Alitheia to their world. On the way, they discover many secrets. The book made me feel a lot of different feelings, mainly suspense though. Throughout the book, you get to follow the Six as they face many challenges, practice their magic, and get into new relationships. My favorite part of this book is when Darcy came in terms with the prophecy agrees to marry Tellius. This is one of my favorite books in the series. I highly suggest reading this book and the rest of the series.
I enjoyed finding out the meaning of the title in this book. I read a lot in one day since we were traveling, which made it more enjoyable for me. I was eager to see what would happen next in the following book.
The best book in the series so far! The characters are wonderful as always and the romance...sometimes I just want to bash their heads together and make them admit their feelings to each other! Highly recommend this whole series!!!
Oh my. I could not put this down. I think this may be my favorite in the series thus far. The character and story development was very good and kept me on the edge of my seat.
