there was a time when i thought i would part ways with kasie west. i thought i had outgrown her books, but theres just something about her stories that is so entertaining and carefree; and sometimes, thats all you need in a book.
although i still think her writing is pretty basic and doesnt take a whole lot of thinking to read, she truly does come up with some of the most unique stories. i love the idea of a podcast, and an advice one at that! its so relevant and relatable.
this may not be the best YA contemporary story i have read, but it had no trouble keeping me entertained from start to finish! such a fun and enjoyable read!

This book is so beautiful it’s making my head hurt. I just finished the book a minute ago, literally, and I can’t stop grinning because of everything that I just read. This story is wonderful and was narrated in the perfect way. Sometimes a book can have a great concept but the execution may not be up to the par, but when I first read the blurb of this book I will admit I was bit skeptical because of the possibility of a love triangle, and that too between best friends. But now after everything I just read I wouldn’t change a word. The characters were written very well and each played off the others’ role very well. The writing complemented the story perfectly and I have no words for the joy I’m feeling right now. After finishing the book I turned to the acknowledgements and the first 2 sentences were that this was Kasie West’s book ten and this was the number of books she was hoping she would write and reading this just made me so much happier for reasons I can’t comprehend. It also made me want to read the previous 9 books, then I had to curse life for not giving me the next 9 days free.
The story follows Kate, Alana, Diego, and Frank. Kate likes to keep to herself, she’s pretty quiet and would rather be doing anything but hosting a podcast. Alana on the other hand is extremely outgoing and happens to have a crush on Diego. And as we all know Kate will fall in love with him. Don’t worry, it’s not a love triangle, and if you were hoping for a love triangle I’m sorry to say you will be disappointed. Frank and Kate’s family have a long term feud going on over some land and the hate seems to have passed down from generation to generation.
Watching this story progress was captivating, and extremely enjoyable. The story moves on very smoothly and there is no point in which the characters seemed out of place or the story moving too slowly. The relationship between each of the characters is marvelous, especially because we see a majority of it happen right in this book. I loved watching Kate and Alana’s friendship progress through the book, Kate’s relationship with her cousin’s was adorable, and so was Diego’s. Frank plays in quite differently because Kate’s long standing hatred of him which he reciprocates, but they do call a truce and realise that their hatred might be slightly misplaced.
Now about the podcast, Alana forces Kate to join the podcast class and their teacher picks Kate as one of the hosts, much to her chagrin since all she wanted to do was stand in the sidelines. Kate’s co-host Victoria on the other hand is all too excited to be a host, and eventually her enthusiasm rubs off on Kate. They make and amazing team and once Kate gets the hang of it, the podcast really moves forward and gains a loyal fan following.
As I have already mentioned the story is amazing, the plot couldn’t have been executed any better, and I look forward to reading more of Kasie West’s writing. I flew through this book in less than a day and I enjoyed every second of it. I give this book 5 stars and it seems to have set me on a contemporary spree. I recommend it to all contemporary lovers who have not read it yet.

As the end of summer approaches, Kate Bailey is bummed that she has to return to the classroom, instead of spending her days on the lake at her parent's marina.
Kate is a lake girl through and through and struggles to see herself ever being anywhere else.
This school year, however, Kate is going to be pushed out of her comfort zone.
At the behest of her best friend, Alana, Kate has agreed to sign up for a podcasting class.
Even though she was less than enthusiastic about it, she ultimately ends up becoming a co-host of an advice show of her creation.
Being such a private person, Kate prefers to fly under the radar, but she soon finds herself taking on a sort of celebrity persona around school.
Alana gets to be on the marketing team and we meet a few of the other kids in the class as well. Victoria, Kate's co-host, is an absolute doll and her rival, Frank, adds a slightly sinister, bad boy element.
Stealing the storyline however, even though he is not in the class, is Alana's crush, Diego.
Cute, cute, cute! This boy is even grabbing Kate's attention.
But Alana is her best friend and it's totally against girl code to go after your BFF's crush.
I mainly picked this book up because I had been told it contain a podcast trope. That is a big selling point for me.
I have never read a Kasie West book, but figured, why not? It sounded so cute and fun and it's summer! The perfect time to pick up a book like this.
I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed listening to this story. Sure, it's cutesy and sugary sweet, but that is exactly what it marketed itself as and that is what I got!
There was miscommunication, drama, funny characters, a cook-off, great family dynamics; the list goes on and on.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quick, adorable YA Contemporary read. I can also see people of all ages enjoying it.
I will absolutely be picking up more of Kasie West's books. Really good stuff!

Kasie West wrote another fun, witty, and sweet YA book with Listen to Your Heart. I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator, Nora Hunter, did a great job bringing Kate to life.
Kate is a bit of a snarky teenager. She’s funny, though, and I loved her personality. While taking a podcast class in highschool, she thinks she will be doing behind the scenes stuff. Then, after her idea for a advice show wins, she is made to co-host the podcast. This is not what Kate wants. Not at all. Hosting is something her best friend Alana wants to do, not her. But she’s kind of stuck so she goes with it. Kate becomes the sarcastic sidekick of the podcast and people actually love her advice. If only she could give herself some advice…
Kate develops a crush as the story goes on. A crush on Diego. I adored Diego from the moment I first met him. When the revelation about him was made (something I hoped was true from the start) I squealed in delight. The problem with Kate crushing on Diego, is that Diego is Alana’s crush and has been for a while. It makes things rather complicated.
What I really loved about this book was Kate’s growth. I loved that she saw herself in a new light after doing the podcast and saw that life outside of the lake- her comfort zone- did exist. She was a fun character and made me laugh. Then Diego. Gah! He was the sweetest. I just loved him. What I didn’t love so much was the Alana dynamic. It’s not that I disliked her, she just wasn’t my favorite. And towards the end she really annoyed me with the whole .
Overall, this was an enjoyable audio. I’m glad I found Kasie West this year. Whenever I’m in the mood for a light and fun YA, she’s a new go to author for me.

This was honestly one of the BETTER kasie west books that have been released recently and IM SO HAPPY, FINALLY!!
Pros
- the mc was likeable and has this massive family (extra points for big fams)
- while the whole premise is very common, there wasn't cringey, unnecessary drama and i appreciate that
- i loved the idea of the podcast and the advice thing!
- it was sickly cuuuute
- DIEGO IS THE CUTEST BOY ALIVE
- thank goodness for no girl hate when boys get involved 👏👏
- even though there was a love triangle, i didnt find it nauseating or cliche, was handled well imo
- while the characters usually seem more juvenile to me, i found these characters to be a bit more mature
- the audiobook narrator was GREAT

- it was very much an easy summer read, but it didnt hold much impact for me
- all of kasie west's mc's seem to have the same thinking and internal monologue, which is finnnee but it just feels like one character throughout her books

This book was extremely adorable. A perfect summer read if I do say so myself (even though it isn't summer right now where I live you get what I mean). The writing was simple and it made the book all the more enjoyable.
"Guilt isn’t necessarily a great reason to do something.”
This book follows 16 year old Kathryn Bailey who, as an extreme introvert, prefers to not be in the spotlight. She'd much rather spend all her time on the lake in her family's marina. She didn't want to sign up for the podcasting class in her school or even expect her podcasting club theme to be chosen but it happened anyway. Now she's expected to give advice to random callers on air? Impossible. But later, she realises that maybe, just maybe, she might be enjoying this whole podcasting thing after all and goes from a total nobody to one of the most popular people in town. Turns out, she is actually a pretty good advice giver. When an anonymous caller- who everyone has taken to calling 'Looking for Love'- asks for advice about a girl he likes, Kate immediately suspects that the caller is Diego Martinez, the cute boy her best friend Alana is crushing on. As Kate gets to know Diego, both on and off air, she starts to fall for him...hard. Torn between loyalty to her best friend and herself, Kate must decide whether to listen to her head..or her heart.

As I mentioned earlier, this book was a really fun read. I haven't read any of Kasie West's books before but now I definitely will. I loved the story, the 'plot' and most of all the budding romance. I didn't like the characters as much as I would have but I loved reading about the protagonist's relationship with her family and his much she loved them and cared about them.
Overall, I feel like I would've loved this more had the characters been written a little better because I didn't really connect with them that well. Other than that, I really enjoyed reading this book and you all definitely will too.

Is it really summer if you don’t read at least one Kasie west or Sarah Dessen book?
I think not.
Before you look questioningly at the date this was posted- hi hello my name's Sarah and I live in Australia. The mysterious land of vegemite and backwards seasons.
So yep, summer. Kasie West.
This was exactly what I was looking for- a few hours of mindless, adorable, summery goodness.
I would definitely recommend the audiobook for this one, because a central theme of the book is podcasting, and the narrator makes it seem like you are listening to an actual podcast.
I loved Diego! He was the sweetest little cinnamon roll ever. He cooks, loves his family, wants to travel the world, seems confident but underneath is shy and a bit insecure.
I loved how despite a major plot point being that both our main character and her best friend having feelings for the same boy, their friendship wasn't compromised for the sake of romance! I loved their friendship, and am so glad it didn't turn girl-hatey.
This has quickly become my favourite Kasie West novel! (But considering this is only the second one I have ever read, it isn’t difficult)
If you have any recommendations for which of hers I should read next let me know! 'By Your Side' sounds the most intriguing to me, solely because: Library + cute boy = Sarah happy

Kasie is an auto-buy author and I don’t even need to read the synopsis to know I’ll enjoy it.
I loved Kate and her group of friends. I love her passion for the lake and how she begins to love the podcast, even when she didn’t want to do it in the first time. Alana was a good BFF and her relationship with Kate was so supportive. Of course I loved Diego and even Frank was mildly charming. And the dynamic between them quickly became interesting.
Plot wise, it was mostly fluffy, but had touches of real life things. There was a brief bit of conflict, but it didn’t last long and the ending chapters were adorable.
As always, I wanted more more more, but Kasie’s stories are always a perfect palate cleaner for me and this was no exception.

When I read West's books, I always tend to compare them to my favorite book by her, PS I Like You. And so far, none of the KW books I've read were as good as PS I Like You, except this one. Honestly, after finding the other KW books mediocre, I didn't have expectations going into this one. I just wanted something cute, and I knew KW would provide. However, I didn't expect to love it as much as I loved PS I Like You!!!

It’s been raining for weeks now here in the Philippines and in Baguio City, my hometown, it has been really cold for a few days now. I therefore needed something warm and fluffy to read so I decided to pick up a Kasie West novel and without a doubt, I knew my decision was going to be right.
I really enjoyed the premise of the story and I particularly adore the lake setting. If I were Kate who isn’t a very people-person like myself, I’d also probably want to spend most of the time at the lake maybe not necessarily riding motor stuff but just reading a book at the dock. But everyone has to go out of his/her comfort zone so Kate begrudgingly agrees with her best friend Alana to take up Podcasting where she unfortunately gets the job she doesn’t want the most-hosting.
I thought it was fun. I enjoyed seeing Kate’s positive transformation and I think that being able to address a serious issue in the plot is quite an achievement. I also appreciate very much Kate’s adorable relationship with her family as well as the friendship between her and Alana. I love that the author is able to portray a healthy competition between the two over the same guy without wanting to tear each other’s eyeballs out. That’s true girl power right there. That they’d both be okay whomever the guy chooses while maintaining their friendship.
Of course, I already knew which girl this guy (let’s hide him in mystery for the sake of those who haven’t read this yet) is rooting for right from the beginning. It’s quite very obvious but I enjoyed it the same. The romance has the right amount of cheese that made me swoon quite a bit. Or fine. A lot. Lol.
I really enjoyed the premise of the story and I particularly adore the lake setting. If I were Kate who isn’t a very people-person like myself, I’d also probably want to spend most of the time at the lake maybe not necessarily riding motor stuff but just reading a book at the dock. But everyone has to go out of his/her comfort zone so Kate begrudgingly agrees with her best friend Alana to take up Podcasting where she unfortunately gets the job she doesn’t want the most-hosting.
I thought it was fun. I enjoyed seeing Kate’s positive transformation and I think that being able to address a serious issue in the plot is quite an achievement. I also appreciate very much Kate’s adorable relationship with her family as well as the friendship between her and Alana. I love that the author is able to portray a healthy competition between the two over the same guy without wanting to tear each other’s eyeballs out. That’s true girl power right there. That they’d both be okay whomever the guy chooses while maintaining their friendship.

Is there anything better than a Kasie West book?
I mean truly.
They are always feel good, put a smile on your face and make you go aww, kind of reads. I can always count on her for a heartfelt story that is just what I need when I need it and once again she delivered.
This was such a great read. I adored it completely and couldn't get enough of it. From the family dynamic to the friend dynamic to the podcasting at school. It truly was so much fun and I couldn't read it fast enough.
West truly outdid herself and I couldn't of asked for a better read or cuter characters.

Cute and summery and exactly what I was looking for. I could’ve done with a little more swoon but considering that I’ve been so disappointed in West’s lastest works, I’ll consider this one a win.

What I Liked:
I adore Kasie West's books. I've read all ten of her books (with Listen To Your Heart being her tenth) and I have to dislike one of them. Listen To Your Heart was cute! It was exactly what I expect from West - humorous, subtle romance, tough-issue social themes that are very present but not heavy and pressing, and a happily-ever-after that makes one sigh. I had been in the mood to read a light, cute romance, and I knew West would not let me down.
This book is set in a small town with a big lake, and the lake is Kate's favorite place to be. She knows she wants to take over her parents' marina at the lake when she gets older. What she doesn't want to do is her new podcast class, for which her best friend Alana convince her to sign up. Kate doesn't really like people, and so talking to people on a podcast isn't really her thing, so it's not ideal when she gets chosen to be the cohost of the school's podcast. Go figure! But the more Kate does the podcast hosting, the more comfortable she feels. Especially an anonymous caller keeps calling, asking for advice about his crush, and Kate is sure it's Diego Martinez (Alana's latest crush), asking for advice about his crush on Alana. Everything is peachy until Kate realizes that she is falling for Diego, and she isn't about to go against the girl code. But maybe it's time to take her own advice and be brave.
At first I wasn't totally sold on Kate, because she came across as a little close-minded. She was so stuck on the lake being the only thing she wanted to be around, and how she was definitely going to work there for the rest of her life, and how she didn't need school because she was going to be at the lake forever. She doesn't like people and she doesn't like school. I can understand all of these things, but Kate didn't want to try anything new, and I could see that being frustrating for her parents. But then Kate started to do the podcast hosting (grudgingly, I might add), and she started to open up to trying new things and being more comfortable outside of her comfort zone. I could clearly see Kate's growth throughout the story. It was lovely to see her get away from the lake so much, even though she still loved the lake and drew comfort from it.
Kasie West always builds in positive relationships in her books. I'm talking about familial relationships, and friendships, and of course the romance. Kate has a younger brother who has just started high school, and a whole bunch of cousins who live in the neighboring houses. The marina is family-owned so Kate and her cousins are very close - literally. I love the closeness of the cousins, and wish I had that with my cousins (except we're a sea apart so that doesn't really work). Kate and her parents also have a really positive, healthy relationship. Both of her parents are very active in her life and care a lot about her personal growth and success, and her happiness. I also loved Kate's friendship with Alana. The two girls are very close and supportive, from start to finish. They are each other's sidekicks and wing-women, the ride-or-die types.
I can't not talk about Diego! He's a fascinating secondary character and a great love interest. He's such a sweetheart, the gentlemanly polite type that is also charming and a little flirtatious. He struggles with his parents' high expectations for him, which is something I understand even now at age 22. Diego is by no means perfect, but he is wonderful.
The romance is adorable and subtly swoony! The whole time you're wondering, is Diego crushing on Alana? Alana is crushing on Diego... right? And Kate, Kate is definitely crushing on Diego. So at first I thought this would turn into some bizarre love triangle. But it didn't! Things worked out perfectly and there was no weird love triangle. I admired how Kate was so determined not to fall for Diego or let on that she had feelings for him - she is a good friend. But in the end, I'm also glad she aired things out. But I don't want to spoil how things ended, so I'll stop there!
Some of the social themes in this book included bullying, which was so heartbreaking. West unraveled that plot really slowly and I actually missed it entirely. Looking back, the signs were obvious, and I should have picked up on things. Like I knew something was weird, but I didn't piece together the correct pieces. I like how West addressed the bullying, and how important it was in this book, without being a central part of the plot.
Despite the heavy themes, this book had a light, fun tone, and there was some good humor (as is West's forte). I giggled, and smiled, I swooned (mostly towards the end, where West saves up all the kisses). I loved the ending, not just in terms of the romance, but also in terms of how Kate changed and how she is evaluating her life a little differently.
This was a wonderful story, and yet another hit by Kasie West. I will definitely be rereading this book soon, and I'll be eagerly awaiting her next one!
What I Did Not Like:
I think I say this in all of my reviews of West's books - more swoons! More kisses! Maybe earlier on, not just in the last chapter or two. I love the subtle romances but hey, I wouldn't mind more kissing, and earlier on in the story. Wink!
Would I Recommend It:
If you love YA contemporary romance, you'll love Kasie West's books. I'm not even a YA contemporary person but West is my go-to author when I'm wanting to read a contemporary romance novel. Her romances are sweet and well-written, and I always swoon over the pair. Her stories are more than romances though, which I appreciate. West fans, this new book won't disappoint!

In this Kasie West novel, Kate and Alana have been friends for years. They are entering high school and taking a class together in podcasting. Kate lives on a lake and that is a big part of her life. I enjoyed the friendship storyline in this.

Kasie West is my feel-good writer to go to. All the books that I have read so far from her, I have enjoyed them so much and they have made life seem more happy and dreamy. She creates these stories in very laid-back locations that I want to go for a vacation to a similar place. Her writing is simple but enjoyable and generally flows with the story.
This also made for an easy read that I really enjoyed. That podcast addition was a very nice touch and I liked how fun it was. I liked the big and close family just as most of Kasie West's books, we don't get to see this in a lot of other YA novels these days. I liked all the characters. But I would have liked to know more about Alana's family instead of just a couple sentences in the book. I also would have liked to know Diego and Frank's characters in depth.
In the beginning, I totally expected Kate to end up with Frank but halfway through I realised that was not the case so that's why I found the (not love triangle but a square?) a bit annoying towards the end but still I enjoyed the book and was not disappointed at the end.

Si t’as 12 ans tu trouveras sûrement ça cool mais j’ai vraiment passé l’âge…
Sa cousine qui sort la carte de « maintenant que t’es connue, tu penses plus qu’à toi » alors qu’elle a juste des responsabilités, pas ouf et franchement faux.
Sa meilleure pote qui a besoin d’avoir l’attention de tout le monde pour se sentir exister même si c’est pour piquer le bonheur de sa pote, bof aussi.
Le perso principal qui est attardé comme jamais, pas son meilleur moment.
L’histoire était juste très prévisible. Les personnages sont pas évolués. Et le développement laisse quand même pas mal à désirer. On a quasi rien vu de la relation des deux perso juste parce qu’ils arrivaient pas à communiquer. Ce qui est très drôle vu qu’elle tient un podcast et prône la communication dans les relations. Beh écoute chou, prends tes conseils et utilisent les!
Déçue parce que je m’attendais à un peu plus venant de l’auteure et la je suis pas sure de vouloir lire autre chose d’elle.

But I am super pumped that you are writing really great stories for young teens filled with positive messages, strong female characters and female friendships, and non-toxic males! This books was so adorable! I had a hard time putting it down and smiled throughout much of the book. The plot reminded me a lot of A MidSummer Nights Dream and it just all worked so perfectly. I read it in just a few hours and I really hated for the story to end. Listen to Your Heart is among my favorite West books and definitely one that I’ll be re-reading. All the heart eyes!!

I loved this story so, so much. I wish there was a whole series about Kate and Diego! They were so sweet together and their chemistry was so natural. 💛 This quickly became one of my new favorite audiobooks. The narrator kept me engaged the entire time and I didn’t want it to end!

3'25🌟 Ha sido una historia que me ha gustado y que he disfrutado mucho leyéndola. También, tengo que decir que me ha sorprendido gratamente por todos los temas que la autora trata y el toque de misterio que le ha dado a la novela. Es una lectura muy ligera que se lee con rapidez por los diálogos divertidos que tiene y por todo lo que trasmiten los personajes. Y bueno, los capítulos finales son asombrosos, la autora ha logrado tenerme en vilo y con ganas de descubrir qué pasaría finalmente. Es el quinto libro que leo de la autora, me ha encantado reencontrarme con su pluma ligera y llena de sentimientos, y con sus personajes tan encantadores y adorables. Os recomiendo mucho que leáis a Kasie West si os gustan las novelas juveniles porque sus historias son sencillas, adictivas y divertidas, y sus personajes te terminan enamorando por su dulzura y ternura.
"Escucha A Tu Corazón" es una historia de amor, amistad, familia que nos habla de enfrentarnos a nuestros miedos y expresar nuestros sentimientos. Más bien un 3'5.
Ha sido una historia muy fresca, muy amena y entretenida. Justo la clase de historia que buscaba para pasar un buen rato, pero tampoco destaca muchísimo. Es más bien predecible y he sentido que en más de una ocasión la autora podría haber profundizado más en la historia.
No obstante, ha sido muy cuqui y tierna y acabó gustándome, sobre todo hacia la parte del final.
Lo recomiendo mucho si buscáis algo sencillo y rápido de leer porque se lee en un suspiro.

He disfrutado mucho de esta historia, que aunque sencilla ha sido muy bonita. Me ha parecido original el tema de los podcast y ver la evolución de la protagonista respecto a este tema. Me ha gustado que tratara temas divertidos, pero también alguno serio, aunque me ha faltado que lo ampliara más. He empatizado mucho con la protagonista, es algo suya, le gusta disfrutar de sus cosas y no me hace falta mucha gente. Las situaciones que van ocurriendo con todos los personajes principales me han hecho sonreír en varias veces, es una historia muy cuqui. Tiene clichés, muchos, pero aún así me ha gustado mucho.

Okay, I'm conflicted.
I enjoyed the hell out of this book and it was damn cute and just a light and fluffy read in general, but I'm beginning to realize I'm starting to outgrow Kasie West books and I'm pretty sad about that. I feel like her books are becoming a bit repetitive? Not really challenging?
The characters were very naive young, and while I do love me some cheesy books, this was a bit too cheesy and predictable if you get my drift. I knew what the twist was going to be from page 1 and that took a lot of the fun away.
Despite that, this would have made a perfect summer read (it's the middle of winter here and I want summer now!) and I breezed through this in two days so no complaints there.

Cute but without much depth. I loved the podcast aspect of the novel but felt like a lot of the dialogue seemed overly formal and stiff for high school students.

But let's talk about the book, shall we? So incredible cute 🧸. Really, this book was like a hug, a summer breeze or a sunbeam. High school, lakes, suburbs, villages, a high school podcast, summer, friends, twits and love. Do I have to say more?
At first I thought the story was quite predictable, but while reading I wasn't so sure about the way this would end. Loved the characters and just the whole idea of this book!! Watching how the story between Kate, Alana, Diego and Frank plus the others developed was so nice xD.
Such an easy and fun read, I totally recommend it <33

I thought that Listen to Your Heart was really cute and I liked podcast setting. It was unique, and worked fantastically as an audiobook. I actually really liked all the characters, they all felt like real people and had good interactions and growth in their relationships.I appreciate that was wasn’t too much extra drama in the story, there was enough to keep it engaging, while also believable.
The only negative really is that I think Hunter was pretty irrelevant to the story. I know he was really only there to show how Kat had grown as a characters and is finally moving on from her past relationships and opening herself to new experiences, but it was unnecessary. Overall this was a cute and fun summer read, a perfect between book to keep your read mood in a happy place.
