In the wake of the second World Shift, Tam and I have spent eight years building UnderBarrow and Willow Wood into a thriving community. We’ve created an oasis of civilization, a safe haven in the vast sea of chaos left after Seattle fell. But as we settle into our new life, a terrifying danger is rising...
Travelers through our territory are being attacked, viciously savaged and taken for food. There are no survivors and no witnesses, but rumors begin to circulate. One of the old gods has returned with a taste for blood. When the Frostlings report that lycanthropes are gathering under a strange banner, we know we’re in trouble. Whoever is at their helm is proving a ruthless, deadly enemy. As the attacks close in on Willow Wood, Hecate warns me that if we can’t stop them, all we’ve worked so hard to build will be destroyed.

Did anyone else notice that Tyrell was back? Like what the hell.... the guy . And even if he had of he wouldn't still be part of the sea-council, nor would he be travelling with the group on their recon, .
There was only a year between the release of book 4 and 5. The beta readers/editors mucked up. Yes it was small in the grand scheme of book 5, but he was such an important story line in book 4, how was it so easily forgotten?
It’s been eight long years since the second world shift and as Tam, Fury and their friends and allies recover and grow, civilization as they knew is no over and they have tried to move on, to recover from all the changes that have happened. But as they settle in this new life they made, a danger grows in the distance.
Lycanthropes are attacking under a strange banner and rumors are circulating about an old god returning to earth. Whomever this god is, danger grows, and deaths are coming fast and furious. For Fury, Tam and all their family and friends, this danger scares them to death and Hecate warns Fury that if we can’t stop them, all we have built in UnderBarrow and Willow Wood will be decimated forever.
Wow is all I can say after finishing FURY’S MANTLE and I can honestly say hold on to your hats, ladies and gents, its about to get bumpy. Ms. Galenorn delivers another wonderful heart pounding installment in the Fury Unbound series and it is one that has twists and turns around every corner. An old god has returned to earth and in its wake danger and chaos comes. Lycanthorps are massing under this god and deaths follow as they move toward Willow Wood and the UnderBarrow. I was glued to the pages of FURY’S MANTLE to the very end and I can say this has got to be one of the best books so far in this series and that isn’t because the first four are not as good. Nope, this takes Fury and the gang on a new adventure, one filled with uncertainty, danger and death every time they turn around. This is an author who just takes Fury on a wild ride right off the bat and in the end, the reader is left hanging on for dear life. I loved every minute of Fury’s adventure and loved at how much she has grown since book four, Fury Calling.
FURY’S MANTLE gives the reader a glimpse into the world Fury and Tam have created in the last eight years since the second world shift. Some of the gods stayed with humanity and began to build up their temples again, survivors tried to live and grow in a world they no longer recognize, and Fury became a Queen of the UnderBarrow as well as beloved to the goddess, Hecate. Life moves on and as Fury grapples with all the changes that have happened, danger mounts and it scares her spitless. I love, love, love Fury. Her growth is tremendous in a sense she is finally at peace with her marriage to Tam and being a queen. She is also feeling pent up as she hasn’t done much work for her goddess, Hecate, the last several years. But times are changing, and Fury learns to adapt and roll with the punches. I love how much all of my favorite characters have grown since the last book, Fury, Tam, Jason, Elan and more all have grown even as they loved and moved on as best, they can. The characters are vibrant, alive and just so entertaining. This is an author who knows how to create characters that fairly brim with life and jump off the pages and into your living room. Even the gods play a major part in this series and all are just as unique and enjoyable as the main characters.
FURY’S MANTLE kicks off a new story ARC in this world and its one I am chomping at the bit to read more of. The ending of the FURY’S MANTLE is a little bit sad, a lot happy and there is a few twists that I sure didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to see where Ms. Galenorn goes next in Fury’s world and I am eager to see if Fury will take up arms yet again next to her goddess, Hecate. If you enjoy a character driven series that just sucks you in and keeps you up for hours to see what happens next, then I urge you to grab this series. You can start from book five, FURY’S MANTLE, but I strongly urge you to start from the beginning in order to see how Fury got to where she is in this latest book. You won’t be disappointed.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement
This series builds on the previous books to a very large extent. It’s best to start with Book 1 “Fury Rising” and continue in order for maximum understanding and enjoyment. The events leading up to Book 5, including the Weather Wars, Gaia’s angry response, Fury and Tam’s romance, Fury’s relationship with Hecate, the allegiances of her team to various gods and goddesses, her marriage to Tam, and her defeat of Lyon are important for understanding the events unfolding in this book and are a fascinating, exciting, and action-packed chronicle of Fury’s development and the evolving maturity of her character, from an Abom killing machine to queen of UnderBarrow over many years. Book 5 starts almost nine years after Book 4 “Fury Calling” and the second World Shift. Fury is 38, a comparative youngster compared to the other Fae, gods, and goddesses. Fury and Hecate sense a threat but don’t know what it is, just that it will tax them to their utmost to defeat. On a trip to Seattle, Fury meets old acquaintances who are dangerous if not handled carefully. Kython keeps his promise of shelter for the night. The group has to fight off zombies, lycanthropes, ghosts, and an Abom, as well as survive the other minor-but-still-lethal hazards. They are fortunate to be accompanied by Thor. They find the city a ghost-filled, zombie-infested, corpse-littered wasteland. They discover that the identity of the mysterious stranger accompanied by four wolves is Fenrir, to their great consternation. Ragnorak has been begun. Fenrir will wake Jormangandr, lead the lycanthropes, and join with the ice giants to create violent, deadly chaos. Later, Loki and the fire giants will join in the wholesale slaughter and destruction Tam and Fury, with the blessing of the gods, decide to move the UnderBarrow back to the Shining Lands. Not everyone survives a deadly attack on Verdanya, where King Kesbet is beheaded. Then the attack moves to Willow Wood and Fury is gravely injured killing an Abom. When she wakens from surgery, they are in the Shining Lands, which will be their home for the foreseeable future.
This series needs a major editing! In the first place, there is a major mistake since a killed-off main-sidecharacter from the last book was suddenly alive again. Even so at that time, it made totally sense to kill him and there was no logical explanation for its reappearance. Then, the plot had a very hopeless feeling to it. I waited for Fury to save the day. In the end, it feels like the bad guys won through/with a lot of slaughtering. There really is no good solution for this story arc which would satisfy me. I just don't think it can be saved except maybe through a time jump which would be too much sci-fi for this storyline. However, the second story arc fits the storyline just the execution is too depressing. Even more so after the first story arc ended already with many casualties (which made somehow sense and I could accept). Eventually, I gave it 3 stars because the world is just blowing up my mind with its creature system, the plot is a logical conclusion to the series so far and Fury is an awesome character.
I'm pretty disappointed by this last book in the series. It seems Galenorn either forgot some of the rules she built into Fury's world previously or she spontaneously changed the rules to further the plot. Either reason is a poor excuse.
As always, her world building (aside from the two glaring changes from the previous books) is interesting and fantastically mythological, post-apocalyptic, and full of fascinating creatures and characters with huge potential.
And as always, those characters are one dimensional or underdeveloped and dialogue only furthers plot - and often intriguing side stories are lost when plot is interrupted by action scenes. Said action scenes drive the books, and happen in sudden yet predictable jolts.
All that said, I certainly would recommend Fury's series to anyone looking for a fun read. Just don't expect deep characters or smooth plot developments.
This series must be read in order. The first book is "Fury Rising". The second book is "Fury's Magic". The third book is "Fury Awakened". The fourth book is "Fury Calling". This is the fifth book. I can't wait to read more!
It has been 8 long years since the Second World Shift and the fall of Seattle. Fury has been learning how to be Queen of UnderBarrow and building Willow Wood while still serving Hecate. Tam is her husband and they are happy but the world is not getting easier. In fact everything seems to be getting harder and colder and more unsettled even though their communities are thriving. Will the world ever settle into a stable environment? What new dangers hide just out of sight? Can they rebuild the world or is that just folly? How will the Gods reshape the world?
I just reread this entire series in a couple days, and noticed a big glaring error in book 5...how is Tyrell alive, and still working alongside of Fury’s crew? He DIED in book 4, not to mention he was a traitor. This is such a huge mistake, I would be ashamed to see this in my works, especially if I were a published author!
Less important but still noteworthy that suddenly Jason needed to strip to shift into hawk form, when Fury had always talked about wondering how he kept his clothes and he said it was magic.
Rather disappointing things to notice in an otherwise good story, but such huge errors took away from the storytelling, honestly.

My daughter said, hey mom, you like her other series, I bet you’d like this too.. yeah well in the course of 3 days I’ve read all 5... 5!!! And now I’d like the next 2 please.. This is a great series, if you like the idea of gods and goddesses intermingling with mortals, vampires, werewolves and fae.. throw in a Demi-god/goddess or 3 and plop it down in the PNW.. then break out the popcorn and enjoy../ The whole series is well written and the characters are full fleshed out and interact well.// all I can say is... Ms Galenorn, please ma’am can I have some more???
I love Yasmine Galenorn's Fury books and this one is no exception. The storyline was captivating and enthralling, I'm eagerly awaiting the next one which will be soon I hope. The characters were entertaining. Fury is tough but still feminine and her interactions with other characters is fantastic, especially interactions with Lady Hectate. I'm definitely wanting more.
I love all her worlds! Her worlds, the choices made, the main characters as well as the surrounding ones are All written so well that the reader can become fully immersed. She is a True storyteller who knows how to share a world of love, compassion, regrets, joy, decisions, and consequences without telling me how to feel by preaching or details sex. Her worlds have heart and soul.
I don't know this one was good but just felt a tad off and a quick forced end with a cliffhanger ending ☹️. Not to mention that Tyrell was back after being killed in a previous book???? . Frankly was surprised it was the end of the series cause I totally felt left hanging with a what was that, going on.
Once again I am awe struck with the power of Mr. Galenorns writing. This book pulls you in from the first word to the last. All her characters feel so real like you are right there in the book with them. I have read all her books and have never been disappointed.
I loved every word. Definite must have in the library! Mrs. Galenorn has out done herself with this one, and I hope that there will be at least one other book in Fury's world.
Another wonderful book in the series. I love this world that the author has created mixing the different mythologies. I love the characters and cannot wait to find out what happens next.
A major discrepancy with the last book spoiled since of my enjoyment of the book. It wasn't a big party of this book, but was of the end of the last one. Most small errors I can ignore. This one didn't feel small and really bugged me.
The author wraps up this thread with more battles, danger & loss. In an apocalypse, things can never be the same again and it's no different here. The bad guys have regrouped and are now prepared to bring Chaos into what's left.
I have read most of the author’s series and each series is as special as the next. They keep my mind engages with intriguing story’s with a little spice.
I really enjoy reading this series and love the MCs. There is always something happening whether it is big or small that requires them to take some sort of action. In some books it’s their regular activities like hunting aboms or other beasties. Sometimes it ruling in underhill or helping another town or village manage their problems. They have done a lot throughout the series and it hasn’t gotten to a point where it feels redundant which is a win for the author and the readers.
This novel was years into the future after their last major event and something big and bad is coming. There have been a lot of deaths and investigations into why certain creatures aren’t behaving in their typical patterns. It’s almost too late before they realize how big and bad it is and underhill decides to take in refuges and retreat to the lands of Tam’s parents. While some stay behind with the gods to fight whatever is coming.

Did Yasmine save the best for last? I LOVED this book so much! I am so sad to see this series end. It is such a joy to join in any world that Yasmine Galenorn creates.
I Loved the book. I'm sorry to say I knew she was pregnant when she was so tired in the beginning of the book. It was a winner from the get go. Thanks Yasmine
