I love this little book! It’s packed full of beautiful full-color photos, many of which perfectly match the design style I prefer. Each day’s devotional also ties in a spiritual life application to a design concept, accompanied by a helpful design tip and a bible verse.

For the design challenged among us (I’m looking at you, self) the concepts are still easily accessible and applicable and you’ll want to file away all those wonderful tips and photos for future use/inspiration. The spiritual application is simple, delivered in short snippets perfect for a few moments over your morning jolt of caffeine, but profound at the same time – covering topics such as focal point, balance, hygge, clutter, etc. Everything has an application to design as well as our own lives, hearts, souls, and/or minds.

Bottom Line: If you’re a fan of HGTV, or you know someone who is, this is the perfect little devotional book for you! Meaningful devotions, handy design tips, and beautiful photos make every page a delight – definitely a book worth keeping out on the coffee table and referring to again and again.

I don’t consider myself a great designer. In truth, I tend to find what I like and put it hodge-podge around my home. I’m not one of those people, as Victoria Duerstock mentions, who sees a blank space and can picture the end result. Nope, I try something and keep it if I like or keep trying if I don’t like it.

Yet, in her design and devotional book, Heart & Home, Duerstock delivers tidbits and tips for both types of people (those who can envision a room from the get-go and those who end up taking a few stops and starts.

With beautiful photography of rooms, focal points, or design elements to go with every bite-sized devotional in this book, Duerstock ties an element of design basics with a spiritual truth. As an added bonus, readers will also enjoy either a prayer or scripture as well as a design tip on every page.

Like me, you just might find encouragement along with a few design ideas to try out in your home.

I have a long way to go when it comes to home decor. I have lots of ideas, but I think I need several homes so I can put to them all to use. Starting with the first page I realized how much I really have to learn. I have colors galore throughout the house. Gulp. Turns out I should've picked an overall color scheme and stuck with "three or four colors to use in various shades throughout the house." Too bad I didn't read this before I slapped paint on the walls in different rooms.

I really like how the scripture and prayer go along with each design idea. They fit well with the design suggestion the author brings us. The photos not only give me great inspiration but I like the sense of calm each of them brings. If an image can do that for me, how much more would that be in my house? There are a couple pages that I would actually like to incorporate into my home.

I also like the layout of the book. Under each of the titles is the scripture, the author's thoughts on how to apply the design idea and how it fits in with faith. To be able to pull those two together page after page is a gift! I appreciate the prayers as well because they're a great starting point to go deeper into prayer.

The gorgeous photos and design tips add a unique element to this devotional. As I read through the devotions, I paid special attention to the images that especially touched my heart. The book also makes a beautiful gift.

Dedication says, “..to my readers, young and old alike. May God bless you and change you as you ponder His word.”

This book has lovely pictures, encouraging prayers, and devotions with designer tips that go with the shared scripture verse. A prayer and picture are on one side, scripture and devotion with design tip on the other.

Sample of Prayer, “Father, help me learn to take on myself only the tasks you want me to do, so I find balance and please you in all I do and say.”

The author talks about scripture mentioned…”Achieving balance begins with learning to say, “No”. Taking on too many burdens breaks us down in the long run.”

Then the design tip, …”A room without balance seems awkward and uncomfortable. Research shows that using symmetry for balance makes us happier.”

This beautiful hard back book can nicely fit in your purse. This book has encouragement for your soul and helps you to think about what you like to create a design of your own Or what ideas would look good in your home. She gives fun ideas for creating a home filled with warmth and love. I look forward to the authors next book release in September. The book is titled Heart & Home for Christmas: Celebrating Joy in Your Living Space.

This lovely little coffee-table book has so much in it that will bless your heart and home! There are absolutely gorgeous photographs throughout of cozy and beautiful rooms that are awe inspiring. My favorite thing, though, is how much is packed into each page concerning each topic.

This book is divided into topics like, “Blank Space” - “Filled and Overflowing” and “Proper Proportions”. What I really found interesting was how the author pulled Scripture, prayer, design tips and special heart thoughts into each page without using an abundance of words. Her writing is beautiful but it truly does touch the heart and encourage us in our walk with God.

I savored each and every page and found myself writing down things that really made an impact on my soul. The fact that there are really good design ideas and tips is the icing on the cake! She encourages us to make our homes warm and cozy but she also encourages us to give our heart the same impact that we would do for our home. It’s a truly unique book that I have picked up again and again to just puruse and enjoy.

You’ll love this little book as much as I do and I highly recommend you check it out. I’m giving it 5 stars.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

First of all, I am not a design guru or anything like that. I can watch all the design shows and see all sorts of intriguing designs. But at the end of the day, I just am not into actually investing the work. It's not my forte.

Interestingly enough, however, the idea for the book is captivating and pure genius! I was intrigued with the fact that the author made a devotional that incorporated design ideas and elements all inspired by Scripture. The photos included made the book come alive for me, and I was totally enraptured, as was my mother.

The best thing about this book is that it can be a devotional that is non-threatening. If you have a lady in your life who loves decorating her home or maybe would like to be inspired to decorate her home, this is the ideal book to give to her, no matter her spiritual condition. It is not overly preachy, and it is a beautiful book in every sense of the word. In fact, I am passing along my copy to my sister-in-law who just loves decorating her home. I believe it will inspire her in more ways than just design. I pray it will inspire her to delve deeper in her relationship with the Lord.

By the way, I am very excited for the Christmas book coming out later this year!!

Complete with a variety of lovely pictures of decorated homes that will satisfy the inveterate decorator, this little book conveys a sense of beauty and togetherness for homes. But the actual beauty of this book is the focus on how God in your life can be expressed through your personal sense of peaceful decorations in your home.

Whether costly or simply balanced "stuff" of your own accumulation, your home can be lovely. But more important is your personal peace and tranquility you convey in the setting of your home. This is accomplished through attention to God's Word and His direction in your life.

The devotionals are short and succinctly phrased to bring your heart, mind, and soul in alignment with the peace of God. A well done book that doesn't intimidate on the decorations angle but allows your to imagine your own home with its personal touches that only you can provide. And aids in your thoughtful reflections on God in your life on a daily basis.

Some I loved or enjoyed or found appropriate for me...... "All Eyes on Him," "No Room In the Room," "Light It Up!" and others.

From a strictly visual standpoint, this book is lovely. The photos are gorgeous, the text is easy to read and the pages are well set up to balance the Bible verse of the day, the devotional and the corresponding design tip.

In terms of content, it's very simple. That's not bad, but it's worth knowing as what you're looking for will absolutely determine how much this does for you. It's light little nuggets of inspiration rather than anything to really chew on throughout the day. Design tips are also at a fairly basic level, e.g. "use metallics as accent pieces in small numbers".

It's pretty, and if you're in a nesting period of life and looking for positive inspiration or light, quick blurbs to focus your attention in the morning, this is perfect. If you're looking for something deeper, this won't be it.

"Our home and its design can encourage spiritual growth in our hearts."

A book that marries home design, spiritual growth and pretty pics? Heart & Home: Design Basics for Your Soul and Living Space is part devotional, part design book. I love the premise of it - connecting our spiritual growth and devotional time with that of our everyday desire for a harmonious and pretty home. With 90 devotions, starting with a heading, Bible verse, author's thoughts, a design tip, pretty interior pictures and finally a sample prayer, it packs quite the punch.

From unity to bling to storage, it touched on quite a few topics for the home and for our hearts. Despite disconnecting on some occasions between the devotional part and the design part, Heart & Home does manage to provide both elements for readers. Where connection seem forced between spiritual and design element (e.g. "Come on In"), individually, they are quite thoughtful and appropriate. In all, what Heart & Home lacks in unifying the two focused themes, it very well made up in its individual assessment of each of them. Two books in one!

Heart & Home is a beautifully presented little book. Perfect for the coffee table or side-by-side with your Bible and journal, it whets the appetite to spruce up your home -- as well as approach home decor from a spiritual point of view.

Each of the devotions take under a minute to read, yet I found the principles remain with me throughout the day. They are approachable and convicting, and help me see that I can make even a rented apartment a God-honoring home. I feel like a Pottery Barn trip is in order (or perhaps Sesame and Lilies, my favorite Cannon Beach home store!).

My favorite design tip: "The best items not only function well but are also made well. Look for pieces that you need while keeping an eye on what you want. Many times, you can have both." (p. 181) I'm not the most patient person in the world, but the times I've waited for just the right piece have been completely worth it! Every time I look at said item, it makes me smile. And that is the most important thing about any component in home decor.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Heart & Home is a 90 day devotional that correlates home design principles with spiritual themes and provides daily color photographs for your eyes to feast upon.

The strength of this book lies in its concept and its beautiful photography. This book provides you with a place where you can relax with God, gather ideas for decorating your home, and find restoration for your soul. It’s also a book that helps you to express simple prayers of thanks and gratitude to God and while seeing the connection between His Word and your daily life.

If you're short on time and looking for a light read than this book may be perfect for you!

I absolutley love this book.
The photography, layout and encouragement through scripture brings such a cozy and inviting sense, that I just want to decorate, clean and have people over every night, to fellowship, encourage others and enjoy LIFE with ALL the beautiful things we have right here in our homes.
Each person has a gift to bring to others. Your humor, love, coffee...whatever it is...sharing with others is good for the soul.
This book offers ideas with decor, scripture and a devotional with a prayer. It meets us right were we are, in whatever circumstance we may be living in, and helps us to see God's perspective in and through every day life. I love the way Victoria uses her home, and living area to encourage us as women. We go through many struggles, and downtimes. This book is a sweet reminder we are truly blessed right where we are.

A Refreshing Blend: Interior Design + Christian Devotionals

One of the best things about this book is its uniqueness. I enjoy both the concepts of interior design and, as a Christian, I'm always wanting to grow in my faith. This little book leads me in the path of growth in both areas as it weaves related concepts into daily devotionals. I also enjoy its simplicity. Victoria takes a thought - a design rule or idea - shares it and then brings in a connection with Scripture or Christian living. I've added this book to my daily quiet time routine and have grown through it. I hope that through the writing of Victoria Duerstock both my heart and my home will each be a better place. And P.S. the full-color images are an added bonus! :)

Heart & Home: Design Basics for Your Soul and Living Space is a beautifully written ninety-day devotional. I love how the author was able to use the concept between interior design and Biblical scripture. Each day includes beautiful full color illustrations and ideas how one can incorporate for their own home. The devotionals have a wide range of inspirations for each day. Each day are simply easy to follow and read.

I give Heart & Home: Design Basics for Your Soul and Living Space four and a half stars. I recommend this book for those who want some inspiration and creative design ideas.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Before reading God’s Word, I like to start with a devotional or something that helps orient my thoughts or prepares me for my quiet time. This book by Duerstock has done just that for me. As someone who likes to do her quiet time in the morning, I found it to be the perfect companion, along with my coffee, to help get my mind in the right place. Heart and Home offers short, daily devotions accompanying beautiful home design photography. Duerstock pairs the theme with the devotional to help us view our homes as an extension of our hearts and ministry.

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for a homemaker or someone who enjoys hospitality, I highly recommend this book.

"Heart and Home" merges two of my passions: interior design and spiritual health. I've known for years that my home is important to the state of my soul, but the author has drawn the connection for me in a thought-provoking way. Page after page gives me design ideas about my own home and how to make it more reflective of the peace and calm my soul craves. I need to seriously declutter! The designs are beautiful, the devotions are meaningful, and the intersection of faith and beauty is inspiring. I can't wait for the next volume!

I couldn't put this book down! I am impressed by the author's work.

Victoria, in each page, presents a verse, a short devotional and a design tip all in a sync. I appreciate the style of writing, book presentation and the graphic work is carefully curated too. There are beautifully designed quotes infused in each segment.

If you have a heart for decorations and you want a no-fluff straight to the point devotional perfect for summer beach-side reading, this is first in there-read

Thank you Victoria! I'm taking my time to reread this masterpiece 😊
God bless.

Heart & Home by Victoria Duerstock is such a stunning book inside and out. It is filled to the brim with gorgeous photos that will inspire you to enrich your home not only with beauty but with the Holy Spirit. Each short section includes several full color photos and a design tip. However, to me the most beautiful elements are the daily scripture and short devotional. The author seamlessly incorporates design for both your home and your soul in one delightful book that you will want to display!

There are so many things to like about this book. The photography is great and the decorating tips are fresh and helpful. I enjoyed this author’s devotions and found them encouraging. There’s 90 devotions, and each has a scripture verse and prayer to go along with it. The covers on this book are beautiful and I like that it has a hardcover. This makes a nice little coffee table book. I very much enjoyed this book, and look forward to the Christmas book to be released soon.

My Review: If you are looking for a very basic book about home and design then this will totally get you going. It has some of the most beautiful pictures to get inspiration flowing. And will totally get you into the mind set to start creating. Another aspect of this one are the devotionals that are thought the book. I can see Christian readers really loving this one.

Each page is sized just right for busy moms, allowing you to read and absorb the message even if you don’t have a lot of free time. It’s also perfect for those of us that tend to skim books. Each page will encourage and uplift you. I loved the design tips too. What a unique devotional book! This would make a great gift too!

I read this book based on a recommendation from a respected blogger I follow. I am SO glad I bought it, but disappointed WITH MYSELF for not sticking with my original reading plan which was to read one page-set two times a week. No matter, I'll get back on track now & finish when I finish just not on December 31 like I planned. No prob.

Anyway, the way the book is set up, each page spread is one unit: left side has a large picture of an area of the home (like an entertainment center with a nice houseplant, a wallhanging, basket of blankets) and a gray box with a prayer and a smaller picture of another lovely element in a home. On the left page is the title of the devotion, a Bible passage, and some aspect of homemaking that ties into that Bible passage; at the bottom is a "design tip" from the author (who is a home designer).

Granted some of the stuff could be considered superficial and occasionally the devotions are a bit stretched to make it work with the cited passage, but MOST of the time, I find the devotion a GREAT reminder of my home-blessings; the other info is very helpful and I really love the positive spin of home "making" that focuses MORE on "what the Lord has done for me" and how we are blessed by exactly where we live right now. At least that's been my experience with the ones I've read so far.

I also love the understated vibe of the pictures on each page. They're lovely and sweet, simple & elegant at the same time, do-able (if I wanted) or just inspirational if I want to just look & think.

I LOVE the aspect of this book that appreciates our home life is a HUGE aspect of who we are, and how "where we live" is part of our identity, too. The added dimension of thanksgiving for our blessings of home & hearth really lift my heart & eyes to give God glory.
