Flubby #2

Flubby Will Not Play with That

Rate this book
Flubby, the lovably lazy feline, embarks on his next non-adventure!

When Kami brings home a bag full of toys for Flubby, the uninterested cat isn't enthusiastic about the choices. A wind-up mouse? No thanks. A fish hanging from a stick? Yawn. But after Flubby rejects each offering, one unexpected option may be the best fit for Flubby after all.

Anyone who's ever owned a cat hosted a cat as a guest in their home knows that purchasing a toy for a cat is a waste of money. Like many youngsters, cats prefer the box the damned toy came in. But, kids are naive, and gullible, and eager-to-please, and cats will take advantage of that.

Sigh.

That poor girl is working her butt off trying to entertain that ungrateful puss.

I wish I could say that it is the cat who learns a lesson in this tale, but, alas, it is not so . . . cats don't learn: they already know EVERYTHING. (Especially how to turn humans into their humble servants.)

Flubby 's behavior has definitely been my cat's behavior over the years. This book is funny if you have ever owned a cat in your life. With cute, simple illustrations you will definitely be able to relate to the little girl in this story as she tries to play with Flubby with a sacksful of cat toys that she bought from the store.

Flubby doesn't need to say anything in these books to get me to laugh, it's his eyes and his body language that tell me everything that I need to know. When this little girl brings home a sacksful of cat toys, one of Flubby's eyes peeks open just out of curiosity. On the floor is one little mouser, that looks like Flubby has torn the stuffing out, so I know that this cat does like toys.

Placing the sack on the floor, Flubby has come to attention, as the girl starts to rattle the sack to get one of the goodies from inside. Oh, she is excited to play with Flubby but Flubby is still just curious. Flubby watches as she throws the toy and he continues to watch it, as it just sits there, plopped up on the floor now. Next! The girl grabs another toy, shows Flubby how fancy it is and sets it in motion. Again, Flubby watches. his eyes moving and now, he decides it’s time to take a bath and begins cleaning himself. Next! Ha!!

He's a hoot! Did he just fall asleep while she's trying to play with him? Flubby how rude. She doesn't give up and the final toy she bought is definitely a showstopper. It's only when she given up on playing with him does she find out what he truly wants to play with. Now, that's a cat. Cute book and funny too.

Ye olde cat isn't interested in toys but is interested in the package they came in. Been done before. But cute.

First sentence: I have toys for Flubby. I have lots of toys for Flubby.

Premise/plot: Will Flubby like any of the toys?!?!?! It is looking doubtful. But cat lovers may be able to predict the one thing Flubby wants to play with that came from the pet store.

My thoughts: I loved this adorable early reader. The story is simple, predictable, yet always delightful. If you love cats, I think you would enjoy meeting Flubby!

Kami has purchased a sack of toys for her cat Flubby. But as she brings out each toy, Flubby shows no interest. Flubby is even afraid of the big exciting toy Kami saved for the end. But wait, there's something left that Flubby likes!

You must always expect the unexpected with a cat. Morris' illustrations are a lot of fun, and the text is a simple read.

Even if there weren't a picture of the real Flubby on the dedication page, you would know that the author has a lot of experience with cats. This is JUST how they act. Sometimes a few toys you get them will capture their attention, when you are not there or when they feel like it. But bring home a brown paper bag or take things out of a cardboard box and you have the best toy on the planet. Especially when you have two cats that love to hide and seek with each other. I love Flubby!

Flubby’s human, Kami, has brought him a bag of toys but Flubby is a lazy cat. He doesn’t want to play with the bird or chase the wind-up mouse. He’s not interested in the dangling fish and the big mechanical toy terrifies him. But when Kami runs out of options, Flubby discovers the empty toy bag. Another easy-to-read Flubby book, perfect for little cat lovers.

Flubby's owner brings home a whole bag of new toys for him, but Flubby doesn't seem to find any of them worthy of play. Poor Kami feels like she's struck out. Or has she?

This is entirely believable. It also seems like the kind of thing a child would do. The text is really simple, but the story is cute and the illustrations make it humorous. Recommended to cat lovers just beginning to read.

In a few words on each page, beginner readers will be able to read this silly cat story by themselves. Flubby doesn't like any of the toys brought home from the Pet Store! Readers can read her reaction from the picture. However, the trip wasn't a total failure after all since Flubby loves the paper bag the toys were brought home in.

Flubby the cat tries out his new toys one by one, dismissing each in turn. When the owner gives up hope, Flubby finds... the bag the toys came in! Silly, appropriate for storytime. Would work for a number of themes.

Kami has a great collection of toys for Flubby, but Flubby is not interested in playing with any of them. Flubby is interested in the paper bag from the cat toy store. This book is very funny and cute and will be appreciated by any cat owner.

Flubby is such a delightfully grumpy and instantly likable character. By the end of the book the kids would want a pet just like Flubby!

I feel like this book is true of both cats and toddlers. They both like playing with the packaging more than the toys. A cute story.

A girl buys a whole bunch of toys for her cat to play with. None of them will do. But you know what will? The bag they all came in!

Good beginner reader that can be used for preschool storytimes.
