Queen Lucy #1

Hellfire and Kittens

Rate this book
As I passed by the small kitchen table that had come with the place, I noticed him sitting right in the center, blinking his yellow eyes at me.

Hell is just a place on earth, right?

For Lucy, this couldn't be any closer to the truth. Stuck working in another dead-end job in another unremarkable city, Lucy’s adapted to life on the run by arming herself with a smokescreen of snarky humor. Sometimes though, her filter-less sasses land her in hot water, especially when it comes to triggering her unruly magic. But, still haunted by the memory of her parents’ deaths, she does her best to scrape by under the radar. Little does she know, however, mysterious forces at work have other plans for her.

I knew I hadn’t left anything on it since what little mail I got, which was mostly bills and junk, littered the top my coffee table.

After a trip to the pound, where a small, scrappy black cat befriends her, a rapid series of events thrusts Lucy—literally—into the complicated world of Hell. Caught up in the politics for the scramble to secure Lucifer’s throne, Lucy’s birthright is challenged when a nefarious plot arises, threatening the stability of not only Hell, but the relationships she's worked to build after years of mistrust.

I cautiously closed the distance to the table, while he flung himself back into the floor.

Lucy will need to learn to rely on others and use the help offered to her by an alluring demon and a ragtag team of misfits in order to save Hell before it’s ripped apart by all manners of depraved, ruthless enemies.

Expertly hand penned across the front in fancy calligraphy was my name. My entire name.

Lucinda Kenna Melek.

Hellfire and Kittens is the first full-length reverse harem novel in a five-part Paranormal Romance series.
That means Lucy won’t have to choose!
Full of action, interesting creatures, hot guys, and a sassy independent heroine who is thrown into a strange world that she must learn to navigate while discovering that true love really does exist. Even if it is a bit unexpected and unconventional.
**This series contains explicit language and adult situations.
***Trigger warning info—This book contains situations of grief and loss.

I really liked the concept of Hellfire and Kittens. Lee’s take on Hell is creative and well built and her main character, Lucy is smart mouthed and resourceful. However, by halfway through the book I found myself skim reading many of the paragraphs just so i could finish it quicker.

As I mentioned before, Lucy is more than willing to use sarcasm and humour in every situation - I absolutely love the headlines she comes up with for herself - and she’s more kickass than Mary Sue. I did find that Lucy’s inner ramblings drone on in places and were not really needed to further the plot. Cain is cute as a kitten and that’s the only way I really liked him. I wasn’t a fan of the chapters from his POV, again I found it unneeded to further the plot. I also did not feel the chemistry between them. Now, Glib and Viran, on the other hand, are interesting characters (creatures); I’d like to see more from them.

Lee is certainly creative and, while I may not have been hooked on this book, I will happily try more of her future works as she definitely has talent in storytelling. There are quiet a few grammatical and editing errors peppered throughout the book, which did take the magic away for me a bit. And, while the series as a whole is RH, this first book doesn’t really touch on that aspect as there’s only one love interest - and it’s quick to love that they find themselves; I’d say just shy of insta-love.

Sadly, even though I liked many aspects of the story, overall it did not quite work for me and I don’t reckon I will continue with the series.

Interesting story

Great story line. Something I haven’t read before. Love the characters. Lucy is quirky. Wish there was more chemistry between the characters though.

Rhiannon Lee has created an amazing read. One of the best ones I’ve read in awhile. Hellfire & Kittens has everything you look for in an RH paranormal romance. Lucy is sassy, sarcastic and comes up with the most hilarious headlines for whatever situation she’s in.

After a trip to the pound, where a small, scrappy black cat befriends her, a rapid series of events thrusts Lucy—literally—into the complicated world of Hell. Hellfire & kittens pulls you in from the very first page Lucy is sassy, sarcastic and comes up with the most hilarious headlines for whatever situation she’s in.
Lucy is thrown into a world she didn’t know she was a part of since birth and powers she needs to learn to control. With the help from a demon and a team of misfits they all need to find a way to save hell from its enemies.

I didn’t get pulled in right away, but once I was I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The characters played off each other well and kept the story moving forward. However, I would have liked to have seen more development on her role in Hell. I am looking foreword to the second book and how she handles the characters and plot development.

I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!! I can see myself in Lucy with all her snarky and sassiness. The ending takes you by surprise. If you like books that make you feel all kinds of emotion in a matter of minutes, this book is for you.

Lucy’s life rapidly changes, after adopting a kitten, named Cain.

Lucy has some anger issues, and spark of magic she’s trying to keep under control. The reason for this starts to fall into place once she’s given an inheritance from grandfather, she’s never met.

Lucy’s internal monologue is hilarious, especially with her own news headlines scattered throughout the story. As well as the constant verbal battle with the kitten - even if it’s only one sided, but he does understand her....yet.

Lucy is a character you will quickly love and relate to at moments.

What an ending! Or should I say, what a hellish cliffhanger to the second book.

This was an okay book. I liked Lucy okay, and the setup and setting were interesting. However, I've read better books with the same concept of "new ruler of hell + a harem". This book didn't have enough happening in it for it to be very interesting or exciting for me. Plus, we only met like one of the guys in the harem. I honestly think that the book felt like only part of a book one. It was disappointing. I probably won't waste my time with book two, as the writing wasn't great in general, not just the plot.

Lol's and giggles the bottom just dropped out of Lucy's world!

Having watched my friend read this book as an arc reader so I had a lot of expectations for this book, I saw her creased over with giggles and laughing out loud, which as any reader, or writer I presume, must know, is a difficult thing to do.
But she nailed it! I was gutted when I had to put my tablet down to do anything that wasn't reading and the first opportunity to pick up my phone or tablet to carry on reading I did. This story is well written the plot is not one I've read before and my imagination is intrigued with the ideas of where Queen Lucy is going to end up and who this mysterious man who plagues her dreams is. I definitely recommend this book it's a hilarious story and not one I've read or has any similarities to any I've read before. Hilarious.

Queen Lucy

Cute book. Lucy has powers that have her hiding, working dead end jobs .One day she goes to a shelter and adopts a black kitten. Goes home and finds a letter stating she has inherited from her grandfather. Ends up Queen of hell.
Enjoyed it enough to want to read more.

Spoiler free, as always! Okay, so, I admit – it was the sarcasm and kittens that drew me into this book. I love a good sarcastic heroine, and this book doesn’t disappoint. I found myself laughing hysterically, mostly because there were so many moments where I could SO see myself in the same situation. Little odd quirks to the characters that screamed “holy moly, it’s ME”, while I, to, bobbed my foot to imaginary music while reading. And yet, within the hilarity, there’s an emotional toll, one that made me pause on occasion as if to reassess, a reminder that sometimes sarcasm and jokes is just a front to protect our vulnerabilities. Better yet, this book isn’t all fluff and fun; it actually has good action, and great heated build up, with characters that really drew me in and made me want to know MORE – not just about them, but about the world itself, how it works in all its twisted and unusual ways. I want to unravel all the mysteries with Queen Lucy, and I can’t wait for the sequel in order to find out more!!

What an inheritance! Lucy has had her world already turned upside down once but it just occured yet again. This was a fast paced read that set up an entire world complete with fantastic characters. From the beginning you can empathize with Lucy, "I will not use my powers for evil". Even better, Lucy gave news head lines captioning her life. This was a very funny and enjoyable read. I received an advanced copy and am voluntarily leaving an unbiased, honest review.

Interesting start

I won’t lie at first this story was a little hard to get in to but by the time I got a few chapters in I was hooked. This is a very interesting take on hell and the creatures that live in it and I’m very excited to see what’s going to happen next!

Seriously reading this book made me want a kitten, but the chances of said adorable kitten turning into a hot guy probably isn't going to happen. But...the book was great! I loved being along for the ride as Lucy was literally thrown into hell. Being inside her head, experiencing her confusion, and her awesome sassy sense of humor made the read really enjoyable. The plot is also non stop. Like you hardly get a chance to breathe and process but thats what made it so much fun. It just keeps going and the world is so vivid. I could see it all like I was right there with Lucy as she discovered what it means to be the queen of hell. Oh and Lucy has some anger issues, so that adds some fuel to the fires of hell. It is a hot, wild ride and I am looking forward to the next one!

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned

This is the first book of Rhiannon’s I have read and I love the concept of Lucy being Lucifers granddaughter and only living heir to the throne of Hell. Lucy is obviously flabbergasted about the news and will try to rule Hell her way. The question is though, will its current residents let her?! I love this characters sarcastic humour, especially the news reels - inside joke so you need to read to find out about it.
This is a slow burn RH and we’re only introduced to one of her love interests, Cain, who will sacrifice anything to be with her. I did find that the plot was extremely slow for my liking and had to skim a few passages to get to the next chapter. It also ended with a cliffhanger and without a doubt I will read the sequel.

Hellfire And Kittens Is Awesome!

Sorry no spoilers of any kind included, or at least I’m not going to try to give away any spoilers that is. Lol
This book was freaking amazing, it pulled me in before I had even finished the first two sentences and I wasn’t able to crawl out until I had gotten to the end of the story.
This is my first time reading anything by Rhiannon Lee and I must say she’s fantastic at weaving her stories so much that I definitely look forward to the next book in this series.
So yes it’s a big HECK YEAH I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s searching for a amazing story to climb into and get completely lost within its pages.

That ending!!!

This was a great read! Lucy is an awesome character, she's so easy to relate to, has a seriously amazing sense of humor no matter what's happening and a kind heart. All of which make her an interesting choice for the queen of hell! Truly though, the characters are great, the depiction of hell is original and enchanting, the plots turns constantly kept me on my toes and I very much cannot wait to dive into book two! Especially with an ending like that, it shocked the hell outta me!

The main character had a lot of sass, and didnt seem to be a doormat which i loved. There were definitely moments in the bool where i wanted more to draw me into the reality of the world rhiannon created. I am hoping we get that in book 2 and am excited to see where she takes this story.

So much fun!

This book was so much fun! Lucy's inner dialog and accidental word vomit had my cracking up the whole time! The world building was great too. I loved the different take on the creation of hell and how the society is set up. I can't wait to learn more about the different people and creatures in each region. And that ending, what a cliffhanger!! I need to know who the mystery man is!!! I will be very impatiently waiting on book 2!!

Great book. The main character is very well written and I love how she reacts to the situation she finds herself in. She refuses to let anything get her down for long and won't do things just because that is the way they have always been done.

This is the perfect book to me. Lucy is a strong, feisty and sarcastic MC. She had me laughing so much reading this book. Her scenes with her little kitten had me laughing and I honestly could not put this book down. I fell in love with Cain. His backstory was sad and made you like him even more. I can’t wait to see more of what happens with Lucy. This book is a definite must read.

I enjoyed this book a good bit! I really like the MC and her inner thoughts remind me of myself a lot. I loved the storyline, not something I've come across much in my reading over the years so that was nice! The supporting characters are interesting and I greatly look forward to learning more about each of them. I definitely am hooked and excited to see where this story goes in the next book and how our MC handles it all!

I love Lucy’s story! Rhiannon Lee has created an amazing world, and everything you could want in a paranormal RH. I’m talking sassy MCs, drama, comedy, emotion in all the right places and a good surprise or two that keep you in so much suspense while you’re reading! I can’t wait to see how the character development grows and what our favourite characters get up to next!

Wow Rhiannon lee has done an amazing job with this first book! The world she has created is so detailed that you actually feel like your within the book following the characters. As for the characters I love the way she has created such a unique past, present and future for them all allowing room for loads of character development with Lucy and her gang. The cliffhanger is utterly killing me and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Lucy just wanted to belong.

Orphaned at a young age and no family to turn to, Lucy tried to cope with pain the only way she knows how; running away. She never stayed long enough in one place to form any kind of relationship.

It doesn’t help that she is cursed with fury and fire powers, she might as well accept her fate of leading solitary life.

But a girl can only take so much.

Adopting a kitten seemed to be the perfect idea. Little did she know that she will find belongingness at the very last place she expected, Hell.

Hellfire and Kittens was my first read from this author. I must say, it was a very entertaining read. I can’t help but laugh at some of the antics of Lucy and Glib, just like you can’t help but love Cain. The book was well written, the flow of story is just right, and I certainly didn’t expect that cliffhanger. This book left me with a lot of questions. Who was that guy in her visions? Who are these four knights? Are they the four horsemen? Are they going to be part of her harem? I can’t wait for the next one and I hope these questions will be answered in the next installment.

*I received an ARC of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.*

DNF at 37%

90% of what I’ve read so far has been internal dialogue. For every paragraph dog something actually happening there are at least three pages on her thoughts about what’s happening. There is definitely some good bones in here but getting to them is exhausting. So far, Cain is the most interesting character and he’s a cat for most of what I’ve read. Lucy comes off as a wanna be bad ass who just wants to whine and feel sorry for herself. With so much internal dialogue this stopped feeling like a story and became more like listening to someone talk about themselves. Lucy is not someone I would sit and listen to for hours.

Also, the fact that she freaks out for like two chapters about finding out her grandfather was Lucifer then bursts into flames and threatens human Cain, yet still tries to deny Hell being real? You set shit on fire…… you’ve moved around your entire life because you set shit on fire… no room for possibility in your brain?

Maybe I’m just being picky but, reading as fast as I did was more work than it was worth in my opinion.
